The 2026 Carceral Systems Organizing Grant seeks to support organizations working to eradicate carceral systems, create alternative justice solutions, or pursue system reform by addressing systemic criminalization that disproportionately targets Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) and low-income/poor communities across our five-state region.

This grant will fund organizations that meet SJF’s community organizing framework and prioritize communities underrepresented in traditional grantmaking.

We define carceral systems organizing broadly to include all systems that criminalize people’s lives based on race, poverty, gender, immigration status and/or disability. Examples include but are not limited to: 

• Abolition, transformative justice, and alternatives to incarceration
• Ending racial profiling and police brutality
• Addressing racial inequities in drug laws
• Child welfare, foster care, child protective services
• Youth incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline
• Detention and deportation of immigrant communities
• Homeless encampment sweeps and criminalization of survival needs
• Re-entry organizing by and for folks who were recently incarcerated

Each year, the Wyoming Arts Council (WAC) awards nearly 150 grants and fellowships, serving every county and reaching more than one million people across the state. This includes approximately 1.1 million adults, 200,000 youth, and 10,000 artists who benefit from arts funding in their communities. From local murals and school arts programs to community theater productions, WAC-supported projects help make Wyoming a vibrant place to live, work, and create.

The Arts Council is funded by a combination of State of Wyoming General Funds, National Endowment for the Arts federal funds, endowments, private donations, and revenue generated through sponsorships and registration for events like the annual Governor’s Arts Awards.

Creative Aging Project Grant

The Creative Aging Project Grant funds arts programs for Wyoming adults 55+, promoting connection, learning, and expression through sequential, skills-based creative instruction.

The Creative Aging Project Grant is open to non-profit organizations and to individual teaching artists to develop Creative Aging programming in Wyoming communities. This is a competitive grant. Grants will be awarded to organizations and/or individual teaching artists in order to develop and implement between one and four separate 8-week creative aging programs. Grants will be awarded in increments of $2,500 for each 8 week creative aging program ($2,500 for one program, $5,000 for two programs, $7,500 for three programs, $10,000 for four programs).

For individual teaching artists this can be a useful professional development opportunity. Professional development in the arts is the purposeful process of continuous learning, growth and refinement of skills and knowledge. It includes the pursuit of opportunities that strengthen one’s craft and career. It allows artists and arts professionals to enhance their own portfolio or practice and/or develop career readiness skills.

The Creative Aging Project Grant distributes financial support based on scores assigned by a panel of experts and arts professionals.

No cash match is required, and In-kind contributions will be reported on the final report.

Proposed projects should accomplish the following:

• Primarily serve older adults (55+). 
• Programs that are working with a residential aging community (residential nursing home, etc) should be open and advertised to the general public for attendance. 
• Programs should utilize the Lifetime Arts Model of Creative Aging programming of an 8 week long sequential skills-building program followed by a public culminating event. Similar, alternative models that prioritize social engagement and sequential learning will also be considered.

The Kalliopeia Foundation Grant focuses on supporting projects that foster cultural and ecological renewal through a deep reverence for the Earth. By prioritizing US-based organizations that demonstrate strong community relationships and intergenerational leadership, the foundation seeks to empower marginalized voices and traditional practices. With an emphasis on land care and Indigenous leadership, Kalliopeia aims to cultivate a resilient future where diverse ways of knowing and being thrive harmoniously with nature.

The Sidney & Ruth Julson Scholarship, established in 2023, honors the legacy of the Julsons, former owners of Four Lakes Aviation. This scholarship provides a $2,000 annual award to Wisconsin residents pursuing education and careers in aviation or aerospace. Eligible students must be enrolled in specific flight school programs at Madison Area Technical College, or in Buffalo or Sheridan, WY. This initiative supports the future of aviation by investing in the education of aspiring pilots and aviation professionals.

Wegmans Family Foundation Inc focuses on cultivating healthy communities through support for hunger relief, health initiatives, education, and youth programs. They prioritize collaborations with local nonprofits to enhance community well-being, offering assistance in key areas like economic mobility and youth engagement. Despite their wide-ranging support, they have specific ineligibility criteria, such as not accommodating personal requests or solicitation on their property, aiming to direct resources effectively where they are needed most.

The Wyoming Women's Foundation Grants, established in 1999, focus on enhancing economic self-sufficiency for women and girls in Wyoming. They provide funding for programs aimed at income development, mentoring, and systems change to address barriers like the gender wage gap. Through initiatives such as job training, leadership programs, and advocacy, the foundation seeks to empower women and girls, fostering lasting community impact and personal growth.

The Indian Environmental General Assistance Program (GAP), administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), provides crucial funding to tribal governments and intertribal consortia for developing environmental protection programs. Since 1992, GAP has focused on remediation of pollutants and, more recently, supports climate adaptation initiatives. The program emphasizes tribal sovereignty while aiding in capacity building, policymaking, and establishing joint EPA-Tribal Environmental Plans to effectively address environmental challenges faced by tribal communities.

The Greenwood Fund Grant, managed by The Denver Foundation, offers small grants for the conservation of museum artifacts and collections care in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Targeting small museums with conservation budgets under $1 million, it prioritizes projects focused on the treatment of art and collections care. Eligible entities must be 501(c)(3) organizations and open to the public. The fund does not support expenses like building expansions or digitizing projects.

The Dogs for Joy Grant, funded by the Joy in Childhood Foundation, supports the integration of trained facility dogs in pediatric hospitals. These dogs provide emotional support, help children cope with medical procedures, and enhance overall well-being. The program aims to increase the presence of in-residence dogs, as research highlights their positive impact on reducing anxiety and improving patient outcomes. The Bonnie Cardone Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Women Divers Hall of Fame, awards $1,500 to a woman diver enrolled in a U.S. or Canada degree program in journalism, graphic arts, photography, or videography. The FDC Foundation, established in 2008, is a private non-profit dedicated to providing grants to 501(c)(3) public charities across three main areas: Health & Nutrition, Education, and Housing. The foundation supports initiatives that improve nutrition, assist diabetic individuals, enhance early childhood development, and promote housing opportunities for those in need. However, it does not fund for-profit entities or international organizations, nor does it provide grants for specific excluded purposes.

The California Casualty Music & Arts Grant supports K-12 public schools facing budget cuts that threaten their music and arts programs. Eligible applicants, who must be active employees of public K-12 schools and members of specified educator associations, can request grants of $250 for music or arts needs.
