State Grants-in-Aid (SGIA)

What is SGIA?

In 1981, the Arizona legislature developed State Grants-in-Aid (SGIA) to help Arizona libraries meet the information needs of Arizona residents. SGIA provides construction funding to public libraries, and annual awards to county libraries and to municipal libraries in cities with populations of 100,000 or more.

Public libraries meeting the qualifications outlined on this page may apply for construction funds. State Grants-in-Aid Construction funds are awarded on a reimbursement basis through a competitive process, and require a dollar-for-dollar local cash match.

The Pacific Branch John Henry Comstock Award honors an exemplary graduate student in entomology within the Pacific Branch. This award aims to foster enthusiasm for entomology at the graduate level and encourage participation in the Pacific Branch and ESA Annual Meetings. The winner will present at the Pacific Branch Meeting and receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the ESA Annual Meeting, a $100 cash prize, and a certificate, covering airfare, hotel, registration, and per diem.

Arizona 501(c)(3) public charities providing oral health programs can seek funding for capital projects, personnel, or program support that expand access to dental care. Grants from Patterson Dental Foundation help eligible organizations in Patterson Companies service areas across the U.S. and Canada, with awards up to US $35,000 depending on project scope.

The Vulcan Materials Company Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community quality of life through education, environmental stewardship, and employee involvement. Established in 1988, the Foundation supports public charities and government units, prioritizing proposals that improve public education and promote sustainable practices. Special consideration is given to initiatives that engage Vulcan employees and integrate multiple focus areas, ensuring a positive impact in the local communities where Vulcan operates.

Arizona 501(c)(3) professional theatres producing contemporary plays on current social issues can access funding through the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation for production costs and organizational change projects. Grants of US $10,000 - US $25,000 support artistic, production, community engagement expenses, and select change-capital initiatives that strengthen theatre business models, community connections, or new leadership.

The Cyprus Tohono Corporation Four Year Scholarship, funded by Freeport-McMoRan, supports Tohono O’odham Nation members in Arizona pursuing higher education. Two scholarships cover tuition, fees, books, and room and board for up to four years at accredited institutions. Recipients must engage in the Success Services Program, maintaining a 2.5 GPA and full-time enrollment. Preference is given to Tohono O’odham members, with annual renewals contingent on academic performance.

The Freeport-McMoRan Native American College Scholarship supports enrolled tribal members pursuing higher education. Funded by the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation, it offers $3,000 for four-year programs, $1,500 for two-year programs, and $5,000 for graduate studies. Additional funds for trade schools are available, capped at $15,000. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA and engage in the Success Services Program, ensuring academic and career support throughout their educational journey.

The Native American Community Activities and Contributions Grant supports tribal community projects that enhance education, health, cultural preservation, economic development, and environmental protection. With awards ranging from $250 to $2,500, organizations addressing priority issues, including women's development and elder engagement, are encouraged to apply. Eligible tribes include Hualapai, Pascua Yaqui, and others working collaboratively with nonprofits. The maximum funding per tribe is capped at $20,000 annually.

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation's Native American Partnership Fund Grant supports community-wide initiatives focusing on education, health, cultural preservation, and economic development in collaboration with nearby Tribal Nations. The foundation prioritizes projects that demonstrate sustainability beyond the funding period and require tribal support through resolutions or letters. Eligible applicants include specific tribes and nonprofits working with them, while projects must address defined social impacts to qualify for funding.

Financial Literacy

Pima Federal regularly works with schools, clubs, and organizations to provide comprehensive financial literacy education to students of all ages, and attends events to promote the benefits of handling money wisely. Please email marketing@pimafederal.org with any requests or inquires. 

The Andrews Family Foundation offers Board Grants to public, non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. Focused on enhancing communities through education, humanitarian work, and the arts, the foundation aims to foster individual growth. Established in 1993 in Chicago, it continues a legacy of community commitment. Grant proposals are reviewed quarterly, with final awards decided by the Board. Eligible organizations must have a budget between $1M and $4M and provide opportunities for board member involvement.

The Arizona Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Funds program, managed by the Arizona Department of Health Services, provides financial support for initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care and life for nursing home residents. These funds can be utilized for various projects, including training programs, facility improvements, and resident relocation assistance, ensuring compliance with CMS requirements while enhancing residents' well-being.

The Arizona Breaking Barriers Scholarship, offered by Desert Financial Foundation, supports high school seniors in Arizona who demonstrate resilience as student athletes. Established in 2021, this scholarship awards $3,000 to fifteen eligible students, helping them pursue higher education at an in-state college. Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and show financial need. This initiative reflects the foundation's commitment to strengthening communities through education and support for students facing challenges.

Marijuana Research Studies and Clinical Trials Grant Program

The Marijuana Research Studies and Clinical Trials Grant Program provides funding to support research that aims to improve the health and well-being of Arizona residents. These grants are designed to encourage scientific exploration and clinical trials that can lead to new insights and therapeutic applications of medical marijuana.

Marijuana Research Grants - Clinical Trials

Pursuant to Laws 2021, Chap. 419, 55th Leg,, 1st Reg., HB-2298, Sec. 1, Arizona Revised Statute (A.R.S.), through the addition of Section §36-2812, the State Department of Health Services’ Arizona Biomedical Research Centre (ABRC) shall provide competitive grants from monies in the medical marijuana fund, established by A.R.S. Section §36-2817 for marijuana clinical trials that are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for evaluating both the safety and efficacy of using marijuana in humans and researching the impacts of marijuana interactions with prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and illicit drugs.

The ABRC may provide up to $5,000,000 annually for five consecutive years from the medical marijuana fund established by A.R.S. Section §36-2817 to administer and award competitive grants pursuant to HB-2298.

Marijuana Grants - Research Studies

The Director of Health Services shall make a one-time transfer of $250,000 from the medical marijuana fund to provide grants for marijuana research studies pursuant to A.R.S. Section § 36-2812.

The Ball Foundation Skilled Trades SkillPointe Scholarship offers $2,500 for educational or training programs in Arizona and Oregon, addressing the skills gap in America. With a mission to upskill workers without requiring a four-year degree, the program has funded over 1,000 scholarships nationwide, resulting in a 95% training completion rate and a median income increase of $32,000 in the first year post-training. This initiative empowers individuals and strengthens the economy.

Coover/Rural Schools Partnership Celebrate Rural Schools Grant Program

The Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Foundation, a partnership between Community Foundation of the Ozarks and The Commerce Trust Company is proud to offer the Celebrate Rural Schools grant program, which will support projects that celebrate, strengthen, and elevate the unique identity of rural schools and the communities they serve. This grant supports projects that celebrate the unique culture, achievements, and identity of rural schools and their communities. It encourages districts to amplify local voices, showcase student success, and strengthen community connections. 

• Eligible applicants must be a member of the CFO's Rural Schools Partnership program.
• Total amount to award is $100,000.00.
• This is a single year grant program with final reports due in May 2027.
• Applicants may apply for up to $5,000 in funding for this grant cycle. 

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks and its Rural Schools Partnership Program are committed to supporting rural schools. In awarding grants, the CFO and its affiliates will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or veteran status. The Agriculture, Soil Health, and Water Efficiency Innovation Pilot Program aims to enhance the health and safety of Arizona's agricultural sector while promoting efficient water use. Funded by the Arizona Department of Agriculture with an allocation of $1.8 million for the fiscal year 2026, this initiative provides grants to agricultural stakeholders for innovative soil health practices. The program underscores the state's commitment to sustainable agriculture and water management, fostering advancements in farming techniques.

QuikTrip is dedicated to supporting at-risk youth and early childhood education through strategic community investments. By donating 5% of annual net profits to qualified non-profits, QuikTrip aims to empower individuals and break the cycle of poverty. The company partners with organizations providing educational opportunities, ensuring that all youth, regardless of their backgrounds, can thrive as independent citizens. This initiative highlights QuikTrip's commitment to making a measurable impact in the communities where its employees live and work.

The Connecting Joy Grant, provided by the Joy in Childhood Foundation, aims to enhance the hospital experience for children battling illness through engaging gaming programs. This initiative supports children's hospitals and nonprofits by funding equipment, staffing, and connectivity, ensuring children can enjoy gaming at their bedside. With grants ranging from $25,000 to $150,000, the program focuses on offering joy and distraction, helping young patients cope with their hospital stays while facilitating connections with peers.

Tribal governments and communities developing renewable energy projects in Arizona and nationwide can seek up to US $100,000 for solar capacity building, workforce development, and energy planning. Grants from GRID Alternatives’ Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund help advance solar infrastructure, job training, and long-term energy sovereignty that may benefit tribal health and community well-being.

Creative West

Established in 1974 as a nonprofit U.S. Regional Arts Organization (USRAO), Creative West was founded on the belief that place matters to the creative process. Fifty years later, communities of place, practice, experience, and identity remain fundamental to our work, framing our understanding of how culture is creatively produced and collectively experienced.

Creative West empowers artists and culture-makers with direct, practical resources, delivered regionally.

We offer practical, equity-centered learning experiences and funding opportunities that connect and inspire artists, culture-bearers and communities to build a more inclusive sector, strengthen the arts field, and catalyze change.

Native Arts and Heritage Fund

The Native Arts + Heritage Fund (NAHF) is a community-rooted award program created to support Native American and Alaska Native artists, culture bearers, and cultural practitioners across the Creative West region.

Co-designed with Native-centered artists, advisors, and community leaders, NAHF centers care, cultural continuity, and self-determination. The fund honors Indigenous ways of knowing and values process over product, relationship over compliance, and well-being as a meaningful measure of impact. In addition to unrestricted funding, selected artists will participate in a three-month virtual cohort experience designed for connection, reflection, and shared learning.

NAHF is administered by Creative West, an organization that uplifts artists and culture bearers across the Creative West region by providing funding, mentorship, and culturally rooted support.

This is not a project-based grant.

This is an invitation into funding and relationships.

Applicants must provide a letter of support from an Alaska Native or Native American community member who can speak to their relationship to community and cultural work.

Unrestricted Funds May Be Used For:

• Taking time to create, reflect, or rest
• Purchasing tools, materials, or supplies
• Covering food, rent, childcare, or transportation
• Supporting wellness: physical, emotional, spiritual, or cultural
• Participating in cultural exchanges, mentorship, or learning

The Region 4 Technology Improvement Projects Award Year 5 aims to enhance access to health information resources through technology improvement projects. It encourages innovative solutions to improve health literacy in underserved communities, aligning with the NNLM mission and the NLM 2017-2027 Strategic Plan. Project ideas include creating community networks for digital resource access, improving Wi-Fi availability in low-income areas, and providing health information workstations to address the digital divide and promote health equity.

The Studio Glass Grant, offered by the Arizona Glass Alliance, supports the creation and appreciation of studio art glass. This grant welcomes proposals year-round that align with the AGA's mission to promote education and outreach in the glass art community. Preference is given to Arizona-based applicants and AGA members. Recipients are encouraged to share their experiences through a talk within a year of receiving the grant, highlighting their accomplishments with the funding.

Arizona Community Foundation

For more than four decades, the Arizona Community Foundation has worked in tandem with generous individuals, families, and organizations to address some of the biggest challenges facing our state.

Scholarships

In partnership with our generous donors, we award millions of dollars annually to help students achieve their educational goals. Through our online system, students complete one application and are matched with available scholarships, based on their eligibility requirements.

The Morfessis Family Scholarship

Education has been a core value of the Morfessis family, and college attainment a passion and goal for all of its members. To assist others who are driven toward similar goals, the Morfessis Family, in conjunction with the Helios Education Foundation, has established a scholarship fund. This fund was established to support Arizona women pursuing a bachelor’s degree in select in-demand career fields at one of Arizona’s three public universities or at one of the state’s community colleges that offer bachelor’s degrees.

This scholarship is renewable.

The Thiru Family Trust Momentum Maker Grant, valued at $75,000, aims to enhance mental health in Arizona schools, particularly in response to pandemic-related stress. This grant provides essential resources for expert guidance, training sessions, and financial aid for mental health activities. It is open to eligible schools and organizations, promoting innovative solutions to urgent mental health challenges. Applications are welcomed from schools, districts, or representatives acting on their behalf to foster well-being and resilience in educational environments.
