Human Service Transportation Grant 

Purpose

The purpose of the Human Service Transportation Grant is to provide transportation services that meet the special needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities and Alaska Mental Health Trust Beneficiaries for whom public transportation services are unavailable, insufficient, or inappropriate. The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Community Transit Office (ACT) uses a combination of federal Section 5310 and Alaska Mental Health Trust funds to provide awards to nonprofit organizations or public bodies that certify that no nonprofit organization or association is readily available in an area to provide service.

Grants for Alaska Libraries and Schools

The Alaska State Library helps public and school libraries acquire financial assistance.

Interlibrary Cooperation Grant

Each year, the Alaska State Library awards Interlibrary Cooperation (ILC) Grants funds for proposals with a direct impact on library users. Libraries of all types (academic, public, school, and special) are encouraged to submit proposals. 

Interlibrary Cooperation Grants are competitive and project-oriented. A grant review committee will evaluate each proposal and score it according to a rubric. Proposals with significant statewide impact on the sharing of resources; cooperative services with another library; innovative programs for the delivery of library services; or training or other programs that strengthen library services, will be more competitive.

Grantees must demonstrate financial commitment to providing ongoing library services once the project is finished. ILC grants cannot be written to support ongoing operational costs, replace primary funding sources, or fund activities that are the primary responsibility of the applicant library

The Richard L. and Diane M. Block Foundation Grant aims to enhance the quality of life for Alaskans through support for social services, arts, culture, and youth empowerment. The foundation prioritizes organizations that provide direct services, address underlying social challenges, and demonstrate financial responsibility. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) non-profits based in Alaska for at least five years, focusing on sustainable solutions. Grants are not available for medical services or organizations that redistribute funds.

The Alaska Children's Trust offers sponsorship grants for conferences and training aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect in Alaska. Organizations and individuals can apply for up to $1,000 to support professional development and information exchange. Applicants must submit their requests at least 90 days before the conference. This funding is intended for venue costs, food, and materials, ensuring that communities can foster safe and nurturing environments for children.

Full-time Alaska Native students pursuing Northwest Coast art degrees or museum studies can receive up to US $5,000 for higher education through this scholarship, including study at UAS, IAIA, or other U.S. colleges. Sealaska Heritage Institute provides Alaska art education students with funding that may help teachers or future educators continue their studies.

Alaska Native college or vocational students in Alaska studying Alaska Native languages can receive tuition support for one heritage language course through the Our Ancestors' Echoes Language Scholarship. Grants from Sealaska Heritage Institute help eligible shareholders and descendants pursuing higher education, which may benefit educators or future teachers continuing their education in language instruction.

Alaska Native college students pursuing higher education or teaching-related degrees can receive scholarship support for undergraduate or graduate study, including continuing education pathways. Focused on higher education access, Sealaska Heritage Institute administers these Indigenizing Education for Alaska Scholarships for Sealaska Corporation shareholders and lineal descendants studying at UAS, UAF, UAA, or APU.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities designs, constructs, operates and maintains the state’s transportation infrastructure systems, buildings, and other facilities used by Alaskans and visitors. These include more than 5,600 miles of paved and gravel highways; 237 airports; 839 bridges; over 800 public facilities; 16 harbors; and a ferry system covering 3,500 nautical miles serving 33 coastal communities.

49 USC 5311 Non-Urban Formula Grants

Non-Urbanized Formula Program grants provide transit capital, operating assistance, and program administration through the States, to non-urbanized areas (less than 50,000 in population) for public transportation. State agencies, local public bodies and agencies thereof, private-nonprofit and private for-profit (inter-city only) organizations and operators of public transportation services are eligible to apply.

Title 49 USC § 5311(d) authorizes states to use funds for the provision of local, general public transportation service in rural areas.

5311 Rural Transit Grants - Notice of Funding Opportunity

Purpose

The purpose of the Section 5311 program is to support general public transportation in rural areas. This is complemented by 5339 Bus & Bus Facilities capital funds. The goals of the program are to:

• Encourage the maintenance, development, improvement, and use of public transportation systems
• To encourage and facilitate the most efficient use of all federal funds used to provide passenger transportation in rural areas through the coordination and consolidation of programs and services
• Assist in the development and support of intercity bus transportation

Eligible projects include transit capital, operating assistance, and program administration through the States, to nonurbanized areas (less than 50,000 in population) for public transportation.

Alaska State Libraries, Archives & Museums

The mission of the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums is to promote lifelong learning for all Alaskans through Alaska’s diverse history, art, and culture.

Congress passed an act establishing the Alaska Historical Library and Museum for the District of Alaska on June 6, 1900. The purpose of the Museum and Historical Library was to collect, preserve and provide access to objects, laws, and papers from the Territory. The Legislature established the Alaska State Library in 1955 to provide reference library service to Territorial and other public officials and to cooperate with other libraries to increase effectiveness and reduce duplication. The Legislature established the Alaska State Archives in 1970, which opened its doors to the public in 1972. The Sheldon Jackson Museum, founded in 1888 to house an exceptional collection of Alaska Native ethnographic material gathered by Presbyterian missionary Rev. Dr. Sheldon Jackson, was purchased by the State of Alaska in 1985.

Regional Library Services Grant

The Regional Library Services (RLS) Grant is an annual non-competitive grant opportunity to provide reasonable access to library materials where there are no library facilities, or to provide training or technical support to Alaskan libraries.

Applicants and proposals need to meet requirements according to Alaska Library Law. RLS Grants are awarded according to an agreement between the Alaska State Library and the applicant library.

Federal and/or State Funding Source

The Alaska State Library uses federal Grants to States funds under the Library Services and Technology Act funds (CFDA 45.310) and/or State of Alaska grant funds for Library Assistance Grants. If awarded, the pass-through funding source will be indicated in the grant agreement.

b.3. regional library services grants, as authorized by AS 14.46.310 (a)(3), to assist libraries in providing regional library services to areas of the state in which there are no library facilities.

4 AAC 57.069. Regional library services grants

The division shall make a regional library services grant to a library that enters into an agreement with the state library to act on behalf of the state library to:

• furnish library materials to areas of the state in which there is not sufficient population or local revenue to support operation of a public library facility; or
• provide services, training, or technical support to other libraries

The Water & Waste Disposal Predevelopment Planning Grants in Alaska assist low-income communities in planning and applying for USDA Rural Development projects. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized tribes. Grants can cover up to $60,000 or 75% of planning costs, with a requirement for matching funds of at least 25%. This program aims to ensure communities have access to essential water and waste disposal services.

The PNASH Pilot Project Program at the University of Washington focuses on enhancing agricultural safety and health through innovative research and outreach. The program supports both early-stage and experienced investigators in developing preliminary data, adapting proven tools, and exploring new research directions. With funding of up to $30,000 for pilot projects and an additional $5,000 for education grants, this initiative aims to improve workplace safety for agricultural workers, including those in fishing and forestry. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

About the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation

Through Helping Hands Fellowships, memorial gifts, and bequests, the Foundation provides a variety of ways to leave a lasting legacy for the children and youth of the Pacific Northwest.

Every member of a Kiwanis club in the Pacific Northwest District is also a member of the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation.

Our Purpose

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation is a non-profit charitable corporation founded in 1985 and endorsed by the Pacific Northwest District of Kiwanis International:

• To promote the sponsored youth groups of the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis District. These include: Circle K (college/university students); Key Clubs (high school students); Builders Clubs (middle school students); K Kids (elementary school students); and Aktion Clubs (adults with disabilities).
• To assist needy persons – particularly youth
• To assist worthy youth to attain vocational excellence
• To aid the handicapped and disadvantaged

Specific emphasis is directed to promotion and support of sponsored youth groups particularly through scholarships and leadership training.

Grants

The PNW Kiwanis Foundation provides support for children, youth, and the disabled in the Pacific Northwest through grants designated for Kiwanis-sponsored projects.

During the last 2 years the PNW Kiwanis Foundation gave away over $20,000 in grant money.

PNW Kiwanis Foundation New Club Opening Mini Grant

The PNW Kiwanis Foundation will provide a $500 mini grant to new clubs to help kick start their charitable giving. Clubs are required to provide us with a “bragging-rights” status report and pictures of how these monies were used after completion of their project.

Purpose

Grants provide limited opportunities for Kiwanis clubs to receive financial assistance with a key project benefiting children or youth in their community. Funded projects may also provide an opportunity to generate exposure for the Foundation and its activities.

Grants must be in keeping with the purpose of the Foundation, which generally is to support children and youth in the Pacific Northwest. Projects that fall outside the Pacific Northwest may be quite worthy of support but would not qualify for a grant from the Foundation.

Club Support

The Foundation does not want to support a project that is not supported by the local Kiwanis club. That is why all grant requests must be accompanied by a letter of support from the Kiwanis club.

The WNAN Natural History Research Grant supports research in biological natural history within western North America. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for five authors to assist with travel, supplies, and other research-related expenses. This initiative particularly encourages applicants from institutions where research is not the primary focus, aiming to foster diverse contributions to natural history.

Nonprofits, government agencies, and universities in Alaska supporting family or informal caregivers of adults with Alzheimer’s and related dementias can receive recognition awards of US $20,000 for existing programs. Grants from Family Caregiver Alliance honor work in creative expression, increasing access and reducing stigma, and public policy for dementia caregiving in the U.S.

The Rasmuson Foundation's Legacy Grants program supports significant capital projects and innovative community solutions in Alaska, offering grants over $250,000. Eligible applicants include established 501(c)(3) organizations and local or Tribal governments actively working in Alaska. Projects may cover construction, large-scale creative works, and historic preservation. Ineligible applicants include individuals and organizations that discriminate based on protected characteristics, as well as those requesting funding for core government functions or previously purchased items.

The Rasmuson Foundation's Community Support Grants provide funding for capital projects and initiatives that have a significant community impact, with awards ranging from $35,000 to $250,000. Eligible organizations must have a history of successful collaboration and project management. Applications are reviewed quarterly for capital projects and biannually for programmatic requests. Organizations can only hold one active grant at a time, ensuring focused community support and funding efficiency.

The Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Initiative Grant supports crucial conservation efforts for shorebirds during their migration along the Atlantic Flyway. This initiative addresses threats such as human disturbance, habitat loss, and hunting in critical areas from the U.S. Atlantic coast to the Caribbean and South America. By promoting coordinated research and management, the initiative aims to ensure the survival of species like the American oystercatcher and red knot, fostering healthy migratory pathways.

The Statewide Teaching Artist Roster (STAR) Grants provide a juried list of qualified artists interested in teaching within schools. This initiative aims to connect communities with teaching artists, enhancing educational experiences through arts and culture for Alaska’s youth. By partnering with various organizations, STAR facilitates access to diverse arts education programs, enriching the learning environment beyond traditional settings. This program reflects a commitment to expanding arts education opportunities throughout the state.

The Rural Business Development Grants in Alaska provide essential technical assistance and training to small rural businesses with under 50 employees and less than $1 million in revenue. While there is no maximum grant amount, priority is given to smaller requests. The program supports various projects, including community economic development and technology-based initiatives, aiming to enhance the economic landscape of rural areas. Eligible applicants include towns, communities, and nonprofit corporations, among others.

The Foster Foundation Grant supports organizations in the Pacific Northwest that align with priority funding issues such as social services, education, medical research, and community engagement. The foundation seeks to cultivate long-term partnerships and is committed to improving community life through various initiatives. Eligible organizations must hold a 501(c)(3) status and address one of the foundation's priority issues while ensuring that funds are used within the designated geographic reach.

The Alaska Watchable Wildlife Conservation Trust Grant Program, managed by the Alaska Conservation Foundation, offers grants up to $5,000 every two years to support projects enhancing sustainable wildlife viewing and education. This initiative aims to conserve Alaska's unique biological diversity. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations based in Alaska or with Alaska-based programs.
