Grants up to US $15,000 support efforts such as workforce preparation and job readiness, housing, criminal justice reform, immigrant and workers’ rights, and equitable access to education, food, and healthcare in Vermont.

Arbor Rising provides Vermont workforce preparation and poverty-alleviation nonprofits with unrestricted, multi-year operating support and intensive capacity-building consulting. Eligible 501(c)(3) or fiscally sponsored organizations in the lower 48 U.S. states receive US $125,000 - US $175,000 per year to strengthen second-stage models that build pathways out of poverty through education, job training, and economic mobility programs.

Nonprofit charitable organizations in Vermont can seek funding for workforce preparation, job readiness, and related community development programs. With a mission to improve lives through neighbors, education, and workforce initiatives, KeyBank Foundation provides US $10,000 - US $25,000 grants supporting affordable housing, financial literacy, small business growth, and education-to-employment pathways.

Vermont farm, forest, and value-added food or fiber enterprises seeking workforce training and business upgrades in Vermont can access funding through the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets; awards range from US $10,000 - US $50,000. Eligible projects include equipment purchases, infrastructure, market development, research and development, and workforce training to build job skills.

Vermont 501(c)(3) nonprofits with at least three years of operation and $100,000+ budgets can seek funding for workforce preparation, youth development, and arts access programs. Focused on skills for a thriving future, RBC Foundation USA invites organizations in Vermont communities where it has a business presence to apply for program support.

Grants for Relocation Outreach Work (GROW) Program

The Think Vermont Grants for Relocation Outreach Work (GROW) Program provides grant funding to enable local, regional, county-wide, or state-wide organizations to conduct relocation, recruitment, and retention activities. To be eligible for this funding, grantees must provide relocation services on behalf of their region or affinity group and collaborate with other organizations to optimize the success of relocation and retention efforts. These efforts reach and serve a broad audience, including underrepresented communities and new and diverse residents.

There are two tracks within the GROW program, the Relocation Track and the Retention Track. Some awardees will receive grants for both tracks. A description of each track is below along with a list of grant recipients:

Relocation Track: Grantees will complement and support the State’s relocation lead generation and distribution system on ThinkVermont.com. Grantees are required to connect with and follow up on generated leads of potential residents interested in moving to their area. Grantees activities can also include the creation of regional marketing assets to assist with out-of-state advertising campaigns.

Retention Track: Grantees will organize events and/or conduct activities that help new residents feel welcome in their new community. Outreach to recently relocated families and individuals will include invitations to participate in events such as mixers, young professionals’ groups and/or the Vermont Welcome Wagon programming.

Vermont 501(c)(3) nonprofits, public agencies, municipalities, and fiscally sponsored groups can receive up to US $5,000 for consultant fees to strengthen organizational capacity and sustainability. With a mission to inspire giving, Vermont Community Foundation provides support for strategic planning, financial sustainability, leadership training, DEI work, and planning around federal funding changes, including for workforce preparation and job readiness efforts.

Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development

Vermont Training Program

For over 30 years, the Vermont Training Program (VTP) has partnered with employers of all sizes and training providers to prepare Vermont's employees for the jobs of tomorrow. VTP provides performance-based workforce grants for pre-employment training, training for new hires, and training for incumbent workers. This training can either be on-site or offered through an outside provider. VTP grants may cover up to 50% of the training cost. 

The program also works with eligible employers to introduce manufacturers and other regionally significant employers to Vermont students at every level. Employers who provide work-based learning programs or activities developed in partnership with a school or educational program may apply to VTP for a grant to offset the costs of providing these programs. This work supports several different types of training, but the most requested programs are for advanced manufacturing skills like Lean Technology, Computer-Aided Design, and Computer Numerical Control machining. Supervisory and management training are also popular.

Department of Business and Economic Affairs

The Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA) is the premier resource for businesses considering expansion in, or relocation to, New Hampshire, as well as people seeking a home in a place where they can balance their careers amid the natural beauty it offers.

The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) is a partnership between the federal government and the states of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. The NBRC targets resources to promote economic growth strategies and projects in designated counties within its member states.

Forest Economy Grant Program

The Forest Economy Program, administered by the Northern Border Regional Commission, makes awards in the form of Grant Agreements. The program stimulates economic growth in the forest-based industries, including new technologies and viable business models, across the NBRC four-state region in alignment with state economic development plans and forest economy initiatives. 

NBRC's Forest Economy Program (FEP) is designed to support state-identified development plans for the regional forest economy and to assist in the industry’s evolution to include new technologies and viable business models.

Forest Economy Program Priorities  

Successful projects support a broad range of initiatives such as, but not limited to:

• Public infrastructure projects that directly support the forest industry;  
• Community development projects that support the diversified use of forest for economic activity;  
• Workforce training and development projects for the purpose of building the skills and recruiting and retaining the workforce needed for forest businesses, and;
• Marketing, communication and education projects that are paired with a public infrastructure, community development or workforce training or development project.  
• Basic research projects will not be considered. Preference will be given to applied research and demonstration projects that demonstrate a strong connection to industry.

Schools, libraries, public agencies, municipalities, and 501(c)(3) or fiscally sponsored community organizations in Vermont can apply for J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation mini-grants of US $250 - US $2,500 to support youth career exploration and postsecondary planning. Funding can boost workforce preparation, job readiness, and education-to-career pathways for young Vermonters.

Organizations in Vermont working to change workforce-related systems and remove barriers to opportunity can seek invitation-only Regional and Local Impact (RALI) grants, typically US $15,000 - US $25,000 per year. Grants from Vermont Community Foundation support community-engaged, collaborative projects using best practices and measurable strategies, which may include workforce preparation and job readiness initiatives.

Workforce Development Scholarship

In 2015, the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and its Build Your Future initiative made a generous contribution to help fund the first Workforce Development scholarships for students pursuing craft and technical programs, allowing 19 applicants to receive the inaugural scholarships. Scholarships are $1,000 per year, renewable for up to two years.

This is the application for the Workforce Development Scholarship. This scholarship is for students pursuing associate degrees, technical training or certificates to enter the construction industry. Solar Energy

All Points North Foundation is focused on finding ways to significantly advance the penetration of solar through education, job training and use of solar electric technologies in the United States.

All Points North Foundation has three priority areas:

Providing solar and workforce development training for Tribal communities to expand and diversify the solar job pipeline.

Working with small- to medium-sized science centers to engage students, families and local communities on the benefits and science behind solar.

Providing solar installations to nonprofit organizations that build high-quality, safe and affordable residential housing, offsetting energy costs and enabling cost savings for households.

The cost of solar has dropped dramatically over the last decade, however the upfront cost of going solar remains a hurdle for most families, communities and nonprofits.

All Points North Foundation does consider funding solar projects outside of these focal areas, but the programs must demonstrate how solar will have a broader impact on local communities (e.g., economic, social or environmental), as well as showcase the potential for replication across the nation.

The EDU Core Research (ECR) program by the National Science Foundation invites proposals for fundamental research that enhances STEM education. Focused on various research areas, including STEM learning and workforce development, it supports diverse educational activities for all age groups. The funding ranges from $500,000 to $2,500,000, with project durations of 3 to 5 years, emphasizing the importance of justifying funding levels in proposals to ensure alignment with research maturity.

Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation

The Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals who are blind or visually impaired by fostering independence and self-sufficiency. Its mission is to support programs that help people with vision loss lead independent, productive lives, while its vision is an accessible and inclusive world where individuals have the tools, resources, and opportunities to fully participate in society.

The Foundation’s funding priorities focus on supporting nonprofit organizations and initiatives that provide education, training, and rehabilitation services, assistive technology innovations, vision care and access to aids, and capacity building for professionals serving the visually impaired community. It also invests in programs that enhance employment opportunities, promote independence, and improve service delivery systems for people with vision loss, emphasizing practical, community-based solutions and long-term impact.

Small Discretionary Grants

The Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation (RDPFS) Track #3 Small Discretionary Grants provide flexible, year-round funding for smaller-scale initiatives that support individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Grant requests are accepted on a rolling basis and awarded at the discretion of the Executive Director. Awards are made until available funds are exhausted, allowing the Foundation to respond to timely or emerging needs.

The Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation offers Single Program Grants to support impactful programs for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. These grants, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000, prioritize initiatives that enhance independence and service delivery. Eligible organizations must be US 501(c)(3) non-profits, and unsolicited proposals are not accepted. The foundation emphasizes community-based solutions and invites qualified applicants to submit a Letter of Inquiry followed by a full proposal.
