Best Environmental Education Grants in New Hampshire

Researchers and scholars conducting multi-institution humanities, social science, or environmental studies projects in New Hampshire and other New England states can access funding through the New England Regional Consortium Fellowships. Grants from Harvard University help support eight-week or longer research itineraries using archives and special collections at three or more member institutions; awards are US $5,000.

Nonprofits and community organizations providing environmental education in New Hampshire and Northern New England can apply for Adelard and Valeda Roy Foundation grants of US $2,500 - US $10,000. Funding priorities include land conservation, climate change education, and projects serving immigrants, refugees, Indigenous communities, low-income youth, and the elderly.

New Hampshire environmental education and coastal research institutions can receive up to US $100,000 per year in New Hampshire to conduct one- or two-year marine and coastal projects. New Hampshire Sea Grant funds work on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, healthy coastal ecosystems, resilient communities and economies, and environmental literacy and workforce development, with a 50% non-federal match required.

Eligible 501(c)(3) educational, medical, and cultural organizations with projects benefiting Maine learners can apply for Davis Family Foundation grants, including those based in New Hampshire. Environmental education programs that directly improve academic outcomes for Maine students or work with Maine schools may be eligible if they meet the foundation’s research-based, innovative project criteria.

Marion Community Foundation

Since 1998, area residents have been turning to Marion Community Foundation to make their philanthropic giving as effective as possible. We use distributions from the more than 500 charitable funds — created by generous, local donors — to award more than $2.5 million in grants and scholarships each year to many of the humanitarian, educational and cultural organizations in this remarkable community we call home.

Marion Community Foundation is the area’s leading philanthropic organization, providing charitable donors the opportunity to easily create endowment funds to benefit and support our community through grants and scholarships. We serve communities throughout Marion County through philanthropy, leadership, and civic engagement.

Rob’s Hauling & Vance Family Scholarship

The Rob’s Hauling & Vance Family Scholarship Fund was created in 2019 by James and Lyndsey Vance. The Vance family places a priority on and a commitment to protecting, preserving, conserving, and sustaining the environment. Their scholarship gives special consideration to applicants who are pursuing an education in Ecology, Natural Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Renewable Energy Engineering, Sustainability Management, Urban Planning and Sustainability, Climate Science, Conservation Science, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Health and Economics. Consideration is also given to students studying Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture Production, Animal Science, Food Sciences and Technologies, Horticulture, Plant Science, Soil Science, and related fields.

Recipients may be a graduate or senior from any school located in Marion County who have been a resident of the area for their entire high school career and maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or greater.

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors. Applications are accepted from mid-November until mid-March. Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the high school awards ceremony. 

Van Cott Family Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Kermit Van Cott and his son Forrest to provide tuition assistance to a graduating Senior from one of the High Schools in Susquehanna County, with priority given to Blue Ridge, who will major in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Horticulture, Botany, Forestry, or Agriculture and who will matriculate at college or a post-secondary degree program.

Scholarships

We are honored to be the stewards of over 90 scholarship funds established by philanthropically-minded individuals in our community. Generous donors entrust us to connect them to dynamic students to provide financial resources for their education through scholarships. Our donors establish scholarship funds with criteria they wish to be met by applicants. Our scholarship committee considers the criteria, evaluates the submitted applications, and chooses the best candidates for each scholarship.

Stanley and Stella Becker Environmental Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Monroe County and intends to pursue a degree in a field related to environmental science in a school of higher education.

This scholarship is awarded to either a graduating senior pursuing a post-secondary degree, or a currently matriculating student already so enrolled, who lives in Lackawanna or Wayne county and who is pursuing a degree or certificate in environmental science or a related field.

Undergraduate students in environmentally oriented majors from the Geneva Lake area can receive up to US $4,000 to support their sophomore, junior, or senior year studies, including those interested in environmental education in New Hampshire. Environmental Education Foundation offers these scholarships to students enrolled at accredited colleges or universities with strong academic records.

Students pursuing natural resources, environmental education, parks and recreation, or environmental studies in New Hampshire can receive scholarship support through the Melinda Henning Scholarship. Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley offers this opportunity to help future environmental professionals advance their higher education; New Hampshire students in these fields may be eligible.

High school seniors pursuing environmentally focused college majors can receive US $3,000 to support their education through scholarships from Environmental Education Foundation, including students from the Geneva Lake area. New Hampshire environmental education organizations may share this opportunity with eligible students interested in conservation, pollution control, invasive species management, or related environmental fields.

High school students pursuing environmentally related college degrees and living in the Geneva Lake area can receive up to US $16,000 for higher education through the Thomas E. Reynolds (TER) Foundation Scholarship. The Environmental Education Foundation supports conservation- and protection-focused studies, which may interest New Hampshire environmental education advocates seeking similar student-focused opportunities.

Students pursuing agricultural or environmental studies can receive more than US $1,000 for post-secondary education through scholarships from Nebraska Community Foundation. Although based in Nebraska, this support may interest environmental education stakeholders in New Hampshire seeking examples of funding for higher education in environmental fields.

High school seniors pursuing undergraduate environmental studies can access funding through the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties to support college education. Eligible students must attend a public or private high school in Martin County with a 3.0+ GPA; New Hampshire environmental education organizations may share this scholarship opportunity with relevant students.

New Hampshire students seeking environmental education funding can access scholarship support through Innovia Foundation’s Rika Ream Environmental Scholarship. Spokane County residents enrolled full-time in environmental sciences, environmental studies, ecology, recreational management, or land management who demonstrate financial need and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA may be eligible and can reapply in subsequent years.

High school seniors pursuing environmental sciences or environmental engineering can receive scholarship support for accredited U.S. programs, which may interest New Hampshire students focused on environmental education. The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin’s Douglas County Waste Management Environmental Studies College Scholarship specifically serves graduating seniors from Douglas County high schools planning these majors.

American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students in public health or environmental science at accredited U.S. institutions can receive need-based support through the Grace Wall Barreda Memorial Scholarship, awarding US $100 - US $30,000 annually. With a mission to support Indigenous scholars, Native Forward Scholars Fund assists students whose work may include environmental education in New Hampshire and beyond.

Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and exceptional undergraduates conducting extended field-based environmental or organismal research can receive US $2,000 to cover housing and research supplies at Hastings Natural History Reservation in California. Grants from Natural Reserve System- University of California help New Hampshire environmental education and science students who are affiliated with accredited institutions and working on qualifying projects.

Students pursuing plant sciences, conservation, environmental sciences, or landscape architecture can receive scholarship support through The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. Focused on environmental education fields, this award assists third- or fourth-year undergraduates and graduate students with financial need who reside in select counties, which may include those studying or working in New Hampshire.

High school seniors pursuing environmental sciences or related fields can receive scholarship support through the Joseph S. Onisko, Jr. Environmental Sciences Scholarship, benefiting students in southern Beaufort County. Community Foundation of the Lowcountry supports post-secondary environmental and marine science education, which may interest New Hampshire environmental education programs seeking comparable opportunities for their students.

High school seniors pursuing marine biology, environmental sciences, STEM, or education can receive scholarship support for post-secondary study from the Turtle Trackers - Linda Zambelli Family Scholarship Fund in New Hampshire. Community Foundation of the Lowcountry awards these scholarships to U.S. citizens with strong academics who have been accepted to accredited colleges or universities.

Students pursuing environmental and natural resource fields who reside in specific northeastern Illinois counties can receive scholarship support for full-time study at accredited colleges or universities. With a mission to support education, Community Foundation of Northern Illinois funds the Soil and Water Stewardship Scholarship, which may interest those focused on environmental education pathways similar to programs in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire students with cystic fibrosis pursuing higher education in environmental science can access funding through the United States Adult Cystic Fibrosis Association’s Stenzel Scholarship. This US $1,000 award supports tuition and other education-related costs at U.S. institutions and may benefit those focused on environmental education and related health fields.

The Emerging Climate Champions Award supports youth-led climate initiatives by providing funding for organizations with at least two years of community-led operation. This award aims to empower young leaders aged 15-35, particularly from under-represented groups, to tackle climate challenges. With global funding for youth-driven climate solutions being scarce, the award encourages innovative approaches across various climate issues, including education, advocacy, and sustainable agriculture, thereby promoting resilience and social justice.

The Crawford Taylor Foundation focuses on enhancing programs that create lasting legacies in St. Louis. With priorities in community development, women's health, animal welfare, and environmental preservation, the foundation seeks to support 501(c)(3) organizations that meet specific eligibility criteria. They avoid funding multi-year grants or for-profit initiatives, emphasizing support for local causes and relief efforts deemed important by the Taylor family.

The Arkansas Audubon Society Trust Grants support conservation, research, and education projects focused on Arkansas bird species and their habitats. Established in 1972, the trust offers grants ranging from $100 to $1200, prioritizing projects within the state but considering broader initiatives as well. Eligible applicants include individuals, students, educators, and nonprofits. Proposals are accepted biannually, with meetings held to discuss funding decisions, fostering a community dedicated to avian conservation.

Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation

The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation began in 1992 when a group of community champions came together around a vision to give back to our region then, now, and forever.

This vision lives on within our organization today as we support the people and places of Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians.
