New ERA Writers Program Goals

The New Era Writers Program aims to inspire those who seek to improve their current abilities or find a community with like-minded individuals and writers. We want to provide support and resources to writers and writing programs to help amplify their voices and improve their capabilities. Our Foundation believes that one of the most important life skills is the ability to be an effective writer and communicator. We support programs that will provide anyone with the knowledge and skills to express themselves through the art of writing and encourage higher levels of training designed to assist in delivering clear and persuasive arguments for change and equality. This program was designed to support writers as they pursue a career and love of writing.

Program Outline

The New Era program was created to encourage writing professionals, teachers, counselors, professors, and schools to start or continue programs supporting professional and creative writing career paths.

The program can support:

• Any writing genre: Journalism, Fiction, Poetry, Prose, Blogging, Novel, Autobiography, Book Reviews, Comic Strips, Diaries, Essays, Fables, etc.
• Programs can be Workshops, Writing Clubs, Curriculum Based Programs, After-school programs, Summer Programs, Retreats, etc.
• Program space that provides a safe and inspiring environment.
• Community Partnerships or On-Staff Writing Professionals or Teachers with Writing Degrees or who Minored in Writing or any Humanities, Liberal Arts or another degree that teaches or encourages writing.

The National Trust Preservation Funds provide grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to support local preservation projects and ongoing work. Mission

The Foundation was established in December 2013 by Kathryn B. McQuade, after retiring from 33 years of working in the business community. I was blessed to have been born into a loving middle class family. My father worked very hard to insure that all of his children were given an opportunity for a good education and my mother, “a stay at home Mom’ was always there for us. My world was safe and comfortable. My life is in stark contrast to how much of the rest of the world lives. I continue to read of the terrible injustices waged against women and children globally and hope that this foundation can provide them the opportunity and resources to succeed. We will support organizations that help us achieve our goal of Striving to make sustainable improvements in women and children’s rights education and welfare.

The Foundation will make timely decisions on your grant request and provide clear communications on our expectations of reporting progress.

Women

The Foundation’s goal is to provide women assistance and provide them an opportunity to succeed. Assistance can take many forms, however our goal is to help them become self sufficient and enable them to lift themselves out of poverty and provide for their children. Access to education, job training and professional skills, even access to capital in order to build a business are possible ways we will consider helping women to succeed. Grant requests should focus on enabling the women to sustain financial independence.

We look forward to hearing of the many creative ways organizations are working on helping women succeed through out the world. To help women is to help their children and the communities they live in.

Children

Too many children in the US and across the world live in poverty and lack the access to education. Education and/or appropriate skills training are necessary to break the cycle of poverty and crime. While the assistance to women may take many forms, the foundation’s focus for children will target education and/ or skills training. The Foundation is open to many ideas on how to accomplish this goal and look forward to receiving proposals to help all children achieve their potential.

The Veterans Assistance & Service Dog Funding Program, established by the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, aims to support 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving veterans. This initiative enhances services like healthcare, housing, and employment support, while also facilitating the provision of service dogs for veterans facing disabilities. Applications for 2025 are closed, but interested organizations can check back in January 2026. Grants will empower nonprofits to better assist veterans in their transition to civilian life.

L3Harris Technologies collaborates with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to ignite interest in STEM among PreK-12 students. This initiative provides grants for schools to implement PLTW Gateway programs starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. Eligible public and charter schools in specific counties will receive a total of $20,000 over two years to support the development of innovative educational programs. This partnership aims to empower future generations and foster skills essential for the aerospace and defense industries.

The Folk and Traditional Arts Community Projects Grant, offered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, supports projects that enhance traditional arts and cultures in the mid-Atlantic region. Non-profit organizations can apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, with a required 1:1 match. Eligible activities include performances, workshops, and public art collaborations, particularly those engaging underrepresented communities. This initiative fosters artistic expression and cultural connection across diverse communities.

The Mid Atlantic Tours Grants program supports presenters in the mid-Atlantic region who engage Roster Artists during their project periods. Eligible presenters can receive up to a 50% subsidy for artist compensation, which includes fees, housing, and travel. The application process is straightforward and non-competitive, but early engagement with the artist's tour manager is advised due to limited funding. This initiative fosters a diverse range of performances and community engagement.

The Public Art Building Communities (PABC) grant program, offered by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, aims to support artists and organizations in creating new public art installations. Projects must be accessible to the public and can be either temporary or permanent, with specific guidelines regarding maintenance and sustainability. Applicants must engage with the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission to secure support and promote community involvement in the project's design and execution.

L3Harris Technologies is collaborating with PLTW to enhance STEM education for PreK-12 students. This initiative supports schools in expanding PLTW Gateway programs starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, with a total grant award of $10,000. Eligible schools are located in specific counties across several states, focusing on diverse and economically challenged communities. The program aims to inspire students and develop essential skills in technology and engineering, aligning with L3Harris's commitment to community engagement.

The Special Presenter Initiatives Grants, offered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with various local arts organizations, aim to support the presentation of professional performing artists at small and mid-size community venues. This initiative encourages projects that feature touring artists and includes community engagement activities, fostering meaningful interactions between artists and local audiences. The program seeks to enhance the cultural landscape of the participating jurisdictions through diverse and innovative performances.

The DGLF Youth Literacy Grants, established by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, aim to enhance literacy among underperforming students in K-12. Organizations such as schools and libraries can apply for funding to implement or expand literacy programs, purchase necessary materials, and acquire technology. With over $159 million awarded to date, the foundation supports efforts that provide equitable education opportunities, ensuring every child has the chance to learn and succeed, regardless of their background.

The District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is inviting applications for projects aimed at restoring publicly-owned parks and natural areas. With a funding pool of $184,000, the initiative seeks to engage eligible entities in removing trash and invasive species while enhancing community involvement in preserving these green spaces. Awards will range from $50,000 to a maximum of three grants, promoting sustainable practices within local urban environments.

The Folger Institute Long-term Fellowship offers a $70,000 stipend for one academic year to support scholars conducting research on early modern humanities using the Folger's extensive collections. Open to international scholars, applicants must hold a Ph.D. and may propose flexible research schedules, including virtual months. This fellowship encourages projects that enhance understanding of Shakespeare and the cultural history of the early modern world, promoting inclusive histories and addressing inequities.

The Jean Dreyfus Lectureship for Undergraduate Institutions Grant provides a $25,000 award to facilitate a visit by a notable researcher in the chemical sciences to undergraduate institutions. It includes funding for summer research fellowships for two students and requires the researcher to deliver accessible lectures to the public. This initiative honors Jean Dreyfus's legacy and supports the engagement of undergraduates in scientific research and discourse.

The Bonnycastle Fellowship for Wetland and Waterfowl Research supports graduate students in advancing conservation efforts. Offered by Ducks Unlimited, this fellowship provides up to $17,000 annually for research and personal support. The fellowship emphasizes the importance of research originality, ecological contributions, and feasibility. It is open to all North American graduate students, with a preference for doctoral candidates. The award is renewable for PhD students up to two years, and once for Master's students, contingent on satisfactory progress.

District Department of Transportation

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) was established by The District Department of Transportation Establishment Act of 2002 as a cabinet-level agency responsible for the management of transportation infrastructure and operations (D.C. Law 14-137 [2002]).

Every day, over 1,000 members of the DDOT team work tirelessly to ensure that the District’s roads are safe, reliable , and easy to navigate for the millions of residents, commuters, and visitors who use the transportation network each year.

Mission: The District Department of Transportation’s mission is to equitably deliver a safe, sustainable and reliable multimodal transportation network for all residents and visitors of the District of Columbia. 

National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program Funding Round #1

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites organizations, businesses, and District of Columbia property owners to apply for a competitive grant to design, install, operate, and maintain federally compliant Direct Current (DC) fast charging stations. Under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, DDOT is receiving $16.7 million over five (5) years to invest in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure throughout the District of Columbia (District) in accordance with the program’s guidance, specifications, and requirements. These first round of stations must be withing one (1) travel-mile of federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs) for the District to achieve fully built out status. The District currently has six (6) AFCs. 

The American Agri-Women Gail McPherson Fly-In Scholarship honors a founding member of AAW, supporting members to attend the annual Fly-In in Washington, DC. This scholarship is open to any AAW member, while applicants who have attended a previous Fly-In are ineligible. The initiative promotes leadership and engagement among agricultural women, fostering a community dedicated to advocacy and education.

The Civil Legal Counsel Projects Program Grants, awarded by the DC Bar Foundation, support DC-based non-profit organizations providing critical civil legal aid to low-income residents facing eviction. Since 2018, over $50.4 million has been granted to enhance legal representation for underserved tenants in landlord-tenant court, ensuring access to justice and assistance during eviction-related proceedings.

The William C. Seitz Senior Fellowships at the National Gallery of Art support research on modern and contemporary art. Designed for scholars with a PhD or equivalent professional experience, these fellowships provide a stipend of $50,000, office space, and access to the Gallery's extensive resources. Eligible candidates can reapply after five years, and all must demonstrate proficiency in two languages besides English. This prestigious program fosters a vibrant community of art scholars.

The Growing Justice Fund provides grants ranging from $25,000 to $250,000 to support community-led initiatives that enhance equitable food procurement. This initiative aims to empower Tribal, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and immigrant communities by facilitating access to institutional contracts and promoting local economic viability. With a focus on health, environmental justice, and collective action, these grants are designed to foster sustainable food systems and build wealth in historically marginalized communities.

The DC Oral History - Beyond the Archive Grants provide funding for community organizations and individuals to create public humanities projects utilizing existing oral history collections. These projects should focus on themes relevant to Washington, DC, and benefit its residents. Possible outcomes include exhibitions, performances, written research, and educational curricula, all aimed at showcasing the unique stories of the city’s diverse communities.

The Helen Wardman Naselli Memorial Fund Grant, established in 1990, supports organizations dedicated to aiding elderly individuals in need. The foundation prioritizes funding for charities in the Washington, DC area that provide care and relief for the aged. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code. However, larger charitable organizations reliant on public appeals and grants for individuals or capital projects are ineligible for funding.

Detroit HBCU Scholarship Endowment

This generous Detroit HBCU Scholarship provides need-based awards to support students who are in one of the eligible zip codes of Detroit.

The purpose of the Detroit HBCU Scholarship Endowment Fund is to provide 1 (one) annual, renewable, and need-based scholarships up to $5,000 (five-thousand dollars) to students graduating from a high school with a Detroit address or students transferring from a metro-Detroit community college to attend a partner HBCU.
