Our Big Impact Grant program allows us to create new partnerships and expand our community giving to benefit a multitude of organizations across the Omaha area. Our focus areas for giving:

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation focuses on supporting organizations that empower communities through basic needs, income creation, and stable housing. By investing in health and job opportunities, they aim to enhance economic mobility for low- and moderate-income families. Their partnerships target vulnerable populations, ensuring equitable access to resources that foster community vitality and resilience. This initiative emphasizes the importance of stable housing as a foundation for personal and communal growth.

The African American Unity Fund Grant, managed by the Omaha Community Foundation, supports initiatives that benefit the African American community in Omaha. Funding prioritizes arts, basic human needs, community development, health, and capacity building. Collaboration among organizations is encouraged, and applicants must align with non-discrimination policies. There are no budget limits, and both new and previous applicants may apply. The Trust has a strong history in the local arts scene, dating back to its founding in 1892. Grants are available year-round, with applications due by January 31 for review in March. However, funding is limited to projects within Omaha's city limits.

The SpartanNash Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations focused on Hunger, Heroes, and Hope. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations located within a 30-mile radius of SpartanNash facilities. The Foundation ensures that every dollar raised directly benefits partner organizations, with a commitment to community impact. Grants are not available for ineligible entities, including those outside the radius or not aligned with the Foundation's mission. The Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation's Omaha Award provides competitive grants to nonprofit organizations in the Omaha area focusing on food, personal care, shelter, and health. With a maximum grant request of $75,000 for general operations and $50,000 for capital projects, the foundation supports initiatives that address basic needs and promote community well-being. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area to apply.

May Family Foundation

Eleanor Jean May established the May Family Foundation in 2000, as a gesture of gratitude to the communities that shaped her life. The May Family Foundation is dedicated to identifying programs that strongly resonate with our mission and values as we work together to empower and uplift lives within our communities.

Our foundation provides resources and opportunities that empower young individuals to thrive and reach their full potential. Our goal is to create a brighter future for under-resourced youth in our local communities.

May Family Foundation Community Outreach Grant

Our foundation strives to be engaged in our local communities beyond grant funding. We support select programs that align with our goals and form a connection through potential volunteering opportunities, site visits, and recognition of successes.

We welcome grant applications for financial support in community outreach:

• Programs that provide professional services to under-resourced families who may not otherwise have access.
• We support programs that help to identify existing problems or challenges in our local communities and provide the means and resources to solve them.

The Fund for Omaha Grant, managed by the Omaha Community Foundation, aims to strengthen local nonprofits by addressing funding gaps and enhancing community services. Priorities include economic opportunity, affordable housing, maternal health, and mental health support. Eligible applicants are public, tax-exempt organizations serving the Omaha area with annual budgets of $5 million or less. The SNAP Employment and Training (NE) program, by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, aims to support low-income adults, including SNAP recipients, in gaining employment through various training services. These services include supervised job searches, job search training, job retention assistance, basic education, career or technical training, and on-the-job training. The initiative seeks to empower participants with the skills and resources necessary to succeed in the workforce.

The Omaha Venture Group (OVG) Grant supports innovative nonprofits in the Omaha metro area with funding up to $8,000 aimed at fostering growth and community engagement. With over $700,000 awarded since 2002, OVG focuses on arts, health, safety, and education initiatives. Nonprofits must be 501(c)(3) organizations with a budget of $500,000 or less to qualify. The Pitney Bowes Foundation Grant, established in 2005, focuses on enhancing education within communities where Pitney Bowes operates. Annually, the foundation allocates around $1.8 million to support literacy, STEM, and job training initiatives, emphasizing early childhood education and mentoring programs. Grants are designed to foster measurable outcomes that address educational disparities, particularly for underserved populations, ensuring a brighter future for the workforce.

​RFA 5965 SNAP Employment and Training

Program Overview

The State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, is seeking eligible Subrecipients to implement additional workforce opportunities for SNAP recipients. The State wishes to engage a broad range of Subrecipients to bring new tools, resources, and capacity to build a better, stronger, and more robust SNAP E&T Program.

The State offers employment and training services to SNAP recipients who voluntarily choose to participate in SNAP E&T. Eligible SNAP Next Step E&T participants cannot be receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds and must be actively receiving SNAP benefits. The program provides orientation, assessment, development of an employment plan, training as well as supportive services to program participants along with a range of activities. The SNAP Next Step E&T program is available in the central area of the State including Kearney, Columbus, Grand Island, North Platte, Scottsbluff, Sidney, Lexington, Norfolk, and Hastings as well as Omaha. DHHS is in the process of expanding the SNAP Next Step E&T program to serve other areas of the state, specifically Lincoln, NE through Third party partners. 

Project Description

The Subrecipient(s) will work to connect with current SNAP recipients and applicants who participate with SNAP Next Step E&T or could participate with SNAP Next Step E&T. This will be done through knowledge the Subrecipient already has in regard to their customer base or SNAP Next Step E&T participants will be referred to the Subrecipient from DHHS. The Subrecipient(s) will work in coordination with DHHS to complete any needed assessments, employment plans and data tracking.

The Walter Scott Family Foundation recognizes that for people and places to truly be healthy, the basic needs of individuals must first be met. We value the work of health and human service agencies that care for our community’s most vulnerable members and strive to assist in times of high demand and financial uncertainty.

The Omaha Award is a competitive grant program that provides support to nonprofit organizations working directly in the areas of food, personal care items, shelter and health for residents of the Omaha metro area. Eligible organizations can request a maximum grant of $75,000 annually.

Funding priorities

Funding is available for operations, programs and capacity building within organizations that serve those in need.

• General operating support for organizations whose programs are focused on meeting basic needs.
• Services available to anyone in need, particularly where “safety net” resources are limited and agency services are essential.
• Program support for expenses incurred while providing essential services.

The Omaha Neighborhood Grants program empowers local residents to lead impactful projects in their neighborhoods. By fostering collaboration and providing training, it enhances community engagement and strengthens connections with the City of Omaha. The program supports neighborhood associations within city limits, encouraging shared priorities and leadership development. With no matching funds required, it aims to improve safety, beautification, and organization while ensuring that neighborhood voices are heard in municipal processes.

The Verne P. Jackson and Rose Marie Jackson Charitable Trust Grant provides crucial financial assistance to organizations supporting physically handicapped individuals within a 100-mile radius of Omaha, Nebraska. Established by Verne P. Jackson, the trust aims to empower those facing physical challenges, drawing from personal experiences with disability. Administered by Wells Fargo Bank, it typically awards one to two grants annually, focusing on assisting organizations that promote productive and rewarding lives for the handicapped.

The Union Home Foundation Grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that promote economic self-sufficiency through financial literacy and housing initiatives. Established in 2015, this grant has awarded over $2 million to various nonprofits across the U.S. Grants typically start at $1,000 and are available for a one-year period. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and can only apply once per year, following specific eligibility criteria.
