T. Mark Schmidt Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program

The purpose of the T. Mark Schmidt Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program (hereinafter referred to as the OHV Grant Program) is to provide financial assistance to Applicants as further defined below, to provide or improve off-highway vehicle recreational areas or trails for public use on Public Lands. Through the Off-Highway Vehicle Tilting Program, the state of Florida has been allocated funds for implementing this program. The primary purpose of the OHV Grant Program is to provide and/or improve off-highway riding opportunities on Public Lands by establishing and/or maintaining existing or new riding areas; provide enforcement of applicable regulations to the System and off-highway vehicle activities; provide safety, training and rider education in the operation of off-highway vehicles and if funds are available, acquire lands to be included in the System and manage and rehabilitate such lands. Grant awards are recommended by the Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Advisory Committee annually, with final approval by the Commissioner of Agriculture, and appropriated by the Florida Legislature.

Grant Categories

There are five grant categories:

Pre-Construction – Planning, Design, and Permitting of New OHV Areas, Trails and/or Facilities, or expansion of existing OHV Areas.

Construction – Construction of New OHV Areas, Trails and/or Facilities, or expansion of existing riding areas.

Maintenance and Monitoring: A) Repair, Maintenance, Rehabilitation of Existing OHV Areas, Trails, or Facilities. B) Monitoring and Protection of Existing OHV Areas, Trails, or Facilities.

Education: A) Rider Education, Safety, and Training Program. B) Education Outreach.

Acquisition – Acquisition of lands to be included in the System.

About Us

James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program

The biomedical research program works to improve the health of Floridians by researching better prevention, diagnoses, treatments, and cures for cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pulmonary disease.

Program goals

• Improve the health of Floridians by researching better prevention, diagnoses, treatments, and cures for cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pulmonary disease.
• Expand the foundation of biomedical knowledge relating to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of diseases related to tobacco use, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pulmonary disease.
• Improve the quality of the state’s academic health centers by bringing the advances of biomedical research into the training of physicians and other health care providers.
• Increase the state’s per capita funding for research by undertaking new initiatives in public health and biomedical research that will attract additional funding from outside the state.
• Stimulate economic activity in the state in areas related to biomedical research, such as the research and production of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices.

Florida Cancer Innovation Fund

The Florida Legislature created the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund in 2024 within the Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program, with oversight by the Florida Cancer Connect Collaborative, to support innovative cancer research and treatment models, including emerging trends that may serve as catalysts for further research and treatments.

In fiscal year 2026-27, a total of $70 million is available for Florida cancer innovation research.

This year’s grant funding represents an expanded commitment to comprehensive cancer prevention and treatment innovation, including dedicated support for clinical trials, nutrition-based prevention research, and generic drug repurposing initiatives.

The purpose of this effort is to energize collaborations between oncologists, cutting edge researchers and cancer facilities and to provide a plausible route for expedited funding to bolster competitiveness for extramural cancer research funding. The aim is to provide opportunities to break down longstanding silos between researchers, cancer facilities, and medical providers to improve cancer research and treatment through rapid (12-month) innovative approaches to cancer research.

The Link Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program offers 12-week fellowships for graduate students to conduct marine science research at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, Florida. • Funding proposals that demonstrate the greatest opportunity to attract federal research grants and private financial support

The Florida Department of Health’s Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative supports the pursuit of identifying cures for pediatric cancer.

The Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative is established in section 381.922, Florida Statutes, works to advance progress toward curing pediatric cancer through grants awarded through a peer-reviewed, competitive process, to:

• Significantly expand pediatric cancer research capacity in Florida
• Improve both research and treatment through greater pediatric enrollment in clinical trials networks
• Reduce the impact of pediatric cancer on disproportionately impacted individuals

Research Focus

Applications submitted in response to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) must be responsive to one of the following areas of focus.

• Screening
• Obesity

Applications in response to this FOA must align to a grant category (depending on the grant program) to pursue an area of focus from the Research Focus section of this FOA. Applications for research infrastructure grants that are reviewed and assigned exceptional scientific merit will be considered for preferential funding.

Bella Initiative Grant Categories: Bridge

The intent of this grant mechanism is to provide interim support for promising investigator-initiated research projects that have been highly rated by national panels of peer reviewers in recent federal competitions but were not funded due to budgetary constraints. In the case of this competition, no more than 18 months may pass between having received a funding decision by a federal agency and submission of an application to the program. Allowable federal competitions include but are not limited to those conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, the National Science Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the United States Food and Drug Administration. To be eligible, applicants must have submitted a multi-year, investigator-initiated research application to a federal agency (such as an NIH R type). The applicant must have received a peer-review summary statement indicating high scientific merit. For purposes of this competition, “high scientific merit” is a percentile ranking within five percentile points of the respective federal funding stream’s pay line or a score of two or better for federal funding streams that do not provide a percentile rank with peer-review results.

Maximum Duration: 6 months

The FL Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) focuses on protecting agricultural viability and conservation values by limiting nonagricultural uses of eligible lands. It includes Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) to safeguard working farms and Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) for restoring degraded wetlands. Additionally, ACEP collaborates with partners through the Wetland Reserve Enhancement Partnership (WREP) to enhance wetland conservation and wildlife habitats, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices across Florida.

The Citizens Grants: Financial Empowerment program supports nonprofits focused on creating measurable impacts in financial education for low to moderate income individuals and small businesses. J. Walker Field Scholarship

This is a one time $1000 scholarship given to graduating Key Club members who exemplify the spirit of Kiwanis through service. In 2012, the Florida Kiwanis Foundation Board of Trustees created the J. Walker Field Scholarship in honor of the man who was accredited with the formation of the Florida Kiwanis Foundation. The Foundation began in 1971 when, the then Florida District of Kiwanis Governor, J. Walker Field, suggested this was a necessary thing to provide backing for his beloved Key Clubs.

He insisted that Ralph Davis be the driving force behind the formation and appointed him president until the foundation was approved by Kiwanis International, inc., and bylaws were established that would provide for elected officers. Since few people knew of the existence of the Foundation, J. Walker Field let it be known that he wanted to serve as president once his year as governor was over. His wish was granted and he became the first elected president of the Foundation in September 1972.

This scholarship is dedicated to his wife, Emilia Gugliuzza for her tireless efforts in helping to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus and her support of family, friends, and Kiwanis.

The David and Donna Batelaan Fund provides three grant opportunities aimed at supporting Service Leadership Programs, including Aktion Club, Builders Club, and Key Clubs. Grants typically cover project costs up to $2,000 and are awarded in two cycles: October to March and April to September. Grants may be made to initiate a project, including a major change, addition, or renovation to a project. Funds to sustain the functioning of a project on an on-going basis must be provided by a club or division.

Grants must be used to assist a Florida Service Leadership Program Club or Division projects.

Save A Club Grant

The “Save A Club” Grant, established through a generous legacy gift from Florida Kiwanis Foundation Board Member Steve Arrington, is designed to help strengthen and revitalize existing Kiwanis clubs throughout the Florida District.

This special grant program supports new service projects that engage the community, attract potential members, and renew enthusiasm within existing clubs. The goal is to help clubs reimagine their impact, build meaningful partnerships, and inspire long-term growth through service.

Save A Club Grants should be used to assist a Kiwanis club within the Florida District with a service project that contributes to the achievement of the Objects of Kiwanis International, specifically, a project that enhances the lives of young children and youth in their community, in accordance with the mission of the Florida Kiwanis Foundation.

SLP Mini-Grants

The purposes of a Service Leadership Programs Mini Grant is to award grants to support Aktion Clubs, Builders Club, Key Clubs, K-Kids Club, and Circle K Clubs or division service projects.

Grants are awarded to a Florida Aktion Club, Builders Club, Key Club, K-Kids Club, and Circle K Club or division by use of the official application form that is provided by division trustees or available on the Foundation website.

The SLP Mini Grant program is less formal than the Matching Grant program and is on a first come first served basis until the funds are exhausted.

There is a simple one-page application form for the SLP Mini Grant and the maximum request is $500.00. The amount does not need to be matched by the club nor does the request need to cover capital expenses.

Grants must be used to assist a Florida Service Leadership Program Club or Division projects.
