Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation

Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Founded by Ron and Lynne DiMenna, who hope that through education and public engagement, the programs and activities the Foundation supports will sustain the surfing lifestyle and protect Florida’s beaches for generations to come.

The Foundation’s Charitable Mission Is:

• Fund the proposed Surfing’s Evolution Experience™
• Supporting programs and events of likeminded organizations for the benefit of ocean and shoreline health
• Promote education on beach safety
• Support and promote lectures and board sports events
• Promote education and action in coastal pollution and beach ecology
• Provide funding for needed beach enhancements
• Allocate resources for safety needs such as lifeguards on high-risk beaches
• Fund and promote community activities such as beach clean-up events, educational materials, and conservation initiatives

Requests and Grants 

Each year we proudly work with community members, nonprofit organizations and event organizers to support their efforts to maintain healthy, safe, and sustainable coastal beaches in Florida.

Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation accepts sponsorship and grant requests for consideration.

Solicitations for Grants and/or Activities

Activities may include beach cleanups, shoreline and eco-system support, conservation initiatives and preservation, beach enhancements, public education programs on beach safety or ecology topics, lifeguard support (high-risk beaches) or surfing history.

Florida Talks Grants, supported by the Florida Humanities Council, provide funding for nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and educational entities to host engaging speakers who explore Florida's history, culture, and heritage. The program includes a standard honorarium for speakers and offers travel reimbursement for smaller organizations. Through these initiatives, Florida Humanities aims to promote civic engagement and preserve the state's rich cultural resources, making programs accessible to the public and fostering community dialogue.

The Citizens Charitable Foundation offers grants focused on Workforce Development and Financial Empowerment. Organizations applying must be IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits located in specific states. The foundation seeks to partner with high-impact nonprofits to create measurable community impact through innovative programs. Funding is directed towards job training, career education, and coaching initiatives, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and volunteerism.

The Citizens Grants: Financial Empowerment program supports nonprofits focused on creating measurable impacts in financial education for low to moderate income individuals and small businesses. This grant emphasizes partnerships with established 501(c)(3) organizations and encourages collaborative efforts that demonstrate alignment with funding priorities. By investing in financial literacy, Citizens aims to enhance fiscal health in underserved communities across select geographic areas.

The Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Graduate Scholarship, offered by the UNICO Foundation, provides two awards of $3,000 each for graduate students of Italian descent. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, enrolled full-time in accredited programs, and reside in specified states. The scholarship supports students pursuing graduate studies in the academic year 2026-2027. UNICO promotes Italian American heritage and community service, making this scholarship a valuable opportunity for deserving students.

The UNICO Foundation offers the Dr. Benjamin Cottone Memorial Scholarship, providing $5,000 to support a U.S. citizen of Italian descent pursuing a medical degree. Eligible candidates must be seniors at accredited colleges or medical schools, with proof of enrollment required. This scholarship not only aids education but also honors the foundation's commitment to community service and heritage, reflecting the core values of the Italian American community.

The Bernard and Carolyn Torraco Memorial Nursing Scholarships, funded by the UNICO Foundation, offer $2,500 scholarships to students pursuing accredited nursing programs in the United States. These scholarships support nursing students of all ethnicities who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens and enrolled in a campus-based program, with a focus on continuing their studies within the academic year 2025-2026.

The Ella T. Grasso Literary Scholarship, provided by the UNICO Foundation, offers two $1,000 awards to college students of Italian descent. Candidates must submit an original essay or short story celebrating their heritage while being enrolled in a full-time, accredited U.S. college for the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative highlights UNICO's commitment to supporting educational endeavors and preserving Italian culture within America.

The UNICO Foundation offers the Louise Torraco Memorial Scholarship for Science, providing two scholarships worth $2,500 each to U.S. citizens pursuing degrees in physical or life sciences. Eligible candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full-time in accredited programs. This initiative reflects UNICO's commitment to supporting educational pursuits in scientific fields while fostering Italian American heritage and community service.

The UNICO Foundation's Ralph J. Torraco Scholarship provides two scholarships of $2,500 each to students pursuing a degree. Open to all ethnicities, applicants must be U.S. citizens, attend an accredited college full-time, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. They should continue their studies in the 2026-2027 academic year and may apply if sponsored by a UNICO chapter from specific states. This initiative underscores UNICO's commitment to supporting educational opportunities for deserving students.

The Kids’ Chance of Florida Scholarship Program awards scholarships to dependent children of a worker who has been killed or seriously injured in a claim accepted as compensable under the Florida Workers’ Compensation Act (Chapter 440, Florida Statutes), the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (33 U.S.C. § 901 et seq.), or the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (5 U.S.C. Chapter 81).

The program is administered by Kids’ Chance of Florida, Inc. and governed by a Board of Directors representing a cross-section of the legal and workers’ compensation communities.

Kids’ Chance of Florida offers one scholarship cycle per year. Students who receive a Kids’ Chance scholarship must reapply each year to be considered for continued support.

The Miguel Cabrera Family Scholarship aims to support educational opportunities for high school graduates in Michigan and Florida, prioritizing those from specific counties. Each selected student receives $1,000, renewable for up to four years, contingent on maintaining good academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be first-generation college students or from historically underrepresented groups. This initiative is backed by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, which has a rich history of philanthropy since 1984.

The MagMutual Foundation Grant supports 501(c)(3) organizations dedicated to enhancing healthcare access and diversity. It funds initiatives like pro-bono medical care for underserved populations, scholarships for minority medical students, and support for healthcare workers facing challenges. The foundation aims to maximize its positive influence in communities by advocating for policyholders and promoting meaningful changes in medical practices. Eligible applicants must have a policyholder's recommendation and be a registered non-profit.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County offers Traditional Scholarships to support students from Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, or Charlotte counties pursuing higher education. With approximately $2 million awarded annually, these scholarships cater to diverse academic interests. Applicants must be residents or graduates of local high schools and under 24 years old by December 31st of the application year. This initiative reflects the foundation's mission to empower individuals to achieve their educational goals and make a lasting impact in the community.

The Paradise for Good Grant, offered by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, provides financial support ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 for initiatives that enhance the lives of local residents. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and faith-based organizations serving the Florida Keys. The foundation seeks projects aligned with its strategic vision, addressing community needs with measurable outcomes, and demonstrating sustainability beyond the grant period.

The Diminished Tree Species Grant Program focuses on restoring native tree species crucial for biodiversity and forest health. By funding scientific research, seed orchard development, and land preservation, the program aims to combat climate change through effective tree restoration projects. The Oak Hill Fund, a private entity, encourages project-specific applications, prioritizing organizations that meet eligibility criteria under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. The TD Charitable Foundation's Capacity Building Fund empowers nonprofit organizations by providing grants aimed at enhancing their operational capabilities. Florida Kiwanis Foundation

The Florida Kiwanis Foundation was created in 1971 by Former Kiwanis Governor Robert Thal. Since 1971, Florida Kiwanis Foundation has been supporting Kiwanis Clubs, Divisions, and students make a real impact in the state of Florida.

Our Purpose: To leave a legacy for the children. We are dedicated to supporting Florida Youth to ensure a brighter future and leave a legacy for the children.

Mission: Help children in need. To enable caring individuals, clubs, and divisions to combine their resources of time, talent, and funds to create a greater impact on the needs of children and families in Florida.

David and Donna Batelaan Fund

There are three opportunities for this grant: Kiwanis Clubs/Divisions; Service Leadership Programs: Builders Club, Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs; and Service Leadership Programs of Aktion Club.

Kiwanis

The David and Donna Batelaan Fund will be utilized for grants or special programs to support leadership development for young people with physical disabilities; and to encourage participation and inclusion for young people with physical disabilities in current KIWANIS programs, activities or service to others.

Grants may be made to initiate a project, including a major change, addition, or renovation to a project for young people with physical disabilities. Funds to sustain the functioning of a project on an on-going basis must be provided by a club or division. 

The Humana Foundation offers research grants by invitation only, focusing on health equity and barriers to healthy living. The foundation aims to support organizations that identify scalable solutions addressing emotional connections, nutrition, and chronic disease. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) charities and accredited educational institutions. The foundation prioritizes solution-driven research that benefits communities in Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas, while adhering to strict anti-discrimination policies.

The Parks and Open Space Florida Forever Grant Program, managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, aims to preserve green spaces by funding local governments and eligible nonprofits for park and open space acquisitions. This initiative not only enhances outdoor recreation but also supports conservation efforts aligned with local comprehensive plans. A minimum 25% match is required from local governments, while smaller municipalities and nonprofits may have different criteria. Applications are accepted from November 3, 2025, to January 19, 2026.

The Republic Bank Grants program supports non-profit organizations in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida that enhance community welfare through various initiatives such as education, healthcare, and civic projects. By providing financial and in-kind donations, Republic Bank aims to strengthen community ties and foster impactful change. Eligible organizations must have IRS 501(c) status and submit grant requests in writing at least two months in advance, ensuring timely support for their initiatives.

The South Carolina Biennial Sea Grant Program, managed by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, aims to enhance coastal conservation and sustainable development through research. With approximately $500,000 available annually for one- to two-year projects, grants typically range from $30,000 to $80,000. The program encourages collaboration among faculty from member institutions and supports initiatives that improve the social and economic well-being of coastal residents while conserving marine resources.

The Longboat Key Garden Club offers scholarships to support eligible college students in Florida pursuing degrees in natural or marine sciences. Awards range from $5,000 to $10,000, aimed at enhancing educational experiences for dedicated students. This initiative encourages studies in diverse fields such as Botany, Marine Biology, and Ecology. By investing in future leaders, the Garden Club fosters academic achievement and inspires students to pursue their professional dreams in environmental stewardship.

The LBK Garden Club, established in 1969, is dedicated to promoting gardening and environmental conservation. Each year, they award grants to tax-exempt organizations focused on these areas, with amounts ranging from $100 to several thousand dollars. Applications are due by March 15th, with recipients announced in early April. Grant winners are recognized at the Club’s Annual Meeting on Earth Day. Previous recipients must submit an Annual Report detailing grant usage by March 1st.

The Lake Sumter Lions Club Scholarship supports students from Leesburg High School, Wildwood Middle High School, and The Villages Charter High School, encouraging academic success and community involvement. Eligible applicants must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and provide documentation of their community service. This scholarship is part of a broader mission by the Educational Foundation of Lake County to enhance public education and empower students to pursue post-secondary opportunities.

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Florida aim to support rural communities in preparing for or recovering from emergencies that disrupt access to safe drinking water. These grants, provided by USDA Rural Development, can be utilized for constructing water transmission lines and sources, with funding up to $1 million. Eligible applicants include public bodies, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized tribes in rural areas. This initiative enhances community resilience against various disasters, ensuring access to reliable water supply.

The NRA Foundation supports the future of shooting sports through grants that fund educational and public service programs. Eligible organizations include IRS-recognized entities and government agencies, while applicants must not discriminate based on protected classes. Grants cannot be used for administrative costs or projects requiring NRA membership. The Foundation emphasizes public benefit in funded projects, fostering community engagement and safety in shooting sports.
