Laurence E. Barreca Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from any Palm Beach or Martin County high school
• Demonstrate financial need
• Minimum 2.5 GPA

The Quantum in the Community (QIC) Grants aim to enhance health in Palm Beach County by funding organizations that address basic needs like food, housing, and transportation. With grants of up to $25,000 awarded annually, the foundation has invested over $160 million in local nonprofits over its three-decade history. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) designated and have been operating in the county for at least six months, ensuring a meaningful impact on community health.

The Quantum Foundation Regular Grant supports organizations focused on improving health in Palm Beach County through projects that align with its mission and vision. The foundation has over $175 million in assets and has awarded $160 million to local nonprofits. Grants typically exceed $25,000 and are aimed at enhancing health engagement, access to resources, and community connections. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that address social determinants of health, ensuring impactful community health improvements.

The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), aims to enhance the quality, safety, and accessibility of community football fields. With grants up to $250,000, this initiative addresses the critical lack of safe recreation spaces in low-income neighborhoods, ensuring children and adults have access to well-maintained facilities for gathering and exercise, ultimately fostering community health and well-being.

The Brinker International Charitable Giving Program focuses on giving back to communities through support for kids, hunger, and education. Kim Love Sartory Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

Kim was born in Milan, Tenn., and moved to Jupiter in her preschool years when her father accepted a position at Pratt and Whitney. Kim began her banking career at 1st American Bank, later moving on to charter the opening of Admiralty Bank. She left the finance world in 1992 to work with her husband, Larry in the family business. She was dedicated to advancing the careers of women, serving on the board of Executive Women and as an active committee member of the Business Development Board and North Palm Beach Chamber. She passed away unexpectedly, and this scholarship serves to perpetuate her memory and spirit.

Julian and Eunice S. Cohen Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

Julian and Eunice Cohen believed deeply in the power of giving back. After moving to Palm Beach in the 1970s, they became devoted supporters of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, establishing both a Donor Advised Fund and a scholarship fund to help local students achieve their dreams.

Jonathan Toppel Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Applicants must be a resident of Palm Beach or Martin County
• Must pursue a degree in fine arts
• Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better
• Selection is based on financial need
• Scholarship is for full-time students who will be enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Student may attend any college or university in the United States that offers a degree in fine arts

The Herbert Bearman Foundation Grant supports initiatives that enhance the well-being of individuals and communities in Baltimore, Maryland, Palm Beach County, Florida, and Israel. The biannual grant cycle requires a Letter of Inquiry by December 15 for spring funding and June 15 for fall funding. While the foundation prefers project-specific funding, it may consider grants for general operating support under certain conditions. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations.

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from any Palm Beach or Martin County high school.
• Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA while in high school.
• Must participate in extracurricular activities and show financial need.

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards

The Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards honor excellence in investigative and public service reporting that exposes injustice, elevates community voices and holds the powerful to account in South Florida.

Nominations are open to recognize journalists, student journalists, newsrooms, public media outlets, and documentary filmmakers for outstanding original local reporting about local issues within Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach or Monroe counties. 

Submissions may include:

• A single piece or a series of up to three related pieces
• Nominations are encouraged across different mediums, including print, digital, television, radio, podcasts, video, audio, data visualization, and documentary film (up to 120 minutes in length are eligible)

Anyone can nominate a journalist or team of journalists. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Submissions will be judged by the rigor of newsgathering, quality of storytelling, inclusion of community voices, and the impact on public understanding or action. Jurors include highly experienced professional journalists, members of the community and members of the Esserman family.

The awards recognize multiple forms of excellence in journalism, including accountability reporting, explanatory reporting, beat reporting, local community reporting, and student journalism.

PBC Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from any Palm Beach County high school
• Pursuing a career in medicine
• Demonstrate financial need

The Community Progress Makers Fund, an initiative by the Citi Foundation, aims to empower local organizations by providing $50 million in unrestricted funding. Men Giving Back SPBC Grants aims to enhance the lives of South Palm Beach County residents by funding charitable initiatives focused on education, mental health, food stability, and children. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for registered 501(c)(3) organizations with a minimum budget of $250,000 that operate in the area. The program prioritizes impactful projects while ensuring funds are not used for religious purposes, fostering community development through collective action.

The JetBlue Foundation is dedicated to enhancing aviation-related education and STEM initiatives, aiming to inspire future aviation leaders. Offering grants up to $50,000, it supports educational organizations that focus on aviation technology, engineering, operations, and maintenance. The foundation prioritizes programs benefiting under-represented communities in aviation, including veterans, women, and diverse groups, ensuring a broader range of voices in the industry.

The Indian River Lagoon Water Quality Improvement Grant supports local governments and nonstate entities in enhancing efforts to safeguard the Indian River Lagoon. Eligible projects may include wastewater improvements, stormwater management, and initiatives aimed at boosting water quality, aligning with the Indian River Lagoon Protection Program. The Ferguson Cares Grant is an essential aspect of Ferguson's Sustainability strategy, focusing on social challenges and community wellbeing. This grant supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. dedicated to affordable housing, skilled trades workforce development, clean water access, and enhancing local economic quality of life. Ferguson aims to create lasting partnerships that drive positive impact within their operational regions, reflecting their commitment to social responsibility and community support.

Program Description

Tau Grants are intended to strengthen the health and well-being of communities across our six-county region. These grants specifically support small nonprofit organizations that expand access to healthcare services or promote economic mobility. We are especially interested in organizations that both serve and are led by people from historically marginalized communities, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and immigrants. Tau Grants provide unrestricted general operating support to help these organizations thrive.

General operating grants strengthen the organization’s overall mission and goals and further its charitable purpose. The focus is not on specific projects or programs. Examples include strategic planning, technology upgrades, audits, and infrastructure costs such as utilities, rent, and personnel.

History of the Trust

The Hamilton Family Charitable Trust comprises two generations of the Hamilton family with a long history of philanthropy in the Philadelphia region. Since 1992, the family has been committed to improving educational opportunities for children and youth, a mission established by Dorrance (Dodo) Hamilton (1928–2017), mother and grandmother of the family Trustees. The family extended their philanthropic reach to Palm Beach County, FL and Aquidneck Island, RI in 2017. The family convenes four times annually to honor this legacy, supporting myriad programs that enhance the lives of the young people they serve.

Hamilton Family Foundation Grant

Program Focus

• Data-driven literacy-based programs focused on developing robust reading and writing skills with a strong history of success.
  • These can be programs that:
    • Take place during school hours, after school, or during the summer.
    • Take place across school systems, but the funding can support only nonsectarian programming including within a religious institution.
  • Grades K-8 programs should devote at least 70 percent of their time directly to instruction and activities in reading and writing.
  • Grades 9-12 programs should provide innovative approaches to students in under-resourced areas for success in higher education, from the college admission process and acceptance through to completion.
  • Youth workforce development programs that focus on quality career exploration and preparation initiatives.
  • Recreational programs with a strong academic component.

Things To Consider

• First-time grants: generally designated for program support. The Trust rarely funds new staff positions for initial grants.
• Continuing partners: generally made for either programmatic or operational support.
• Multi-year grants: requests are typically reserved for grantees with five (5) years or more of consecutive funding from the Trust. Multi-year grants require approval prior to application submission. Approval is generally communicated in response to the LOI.

Peter Jay Sharp Foundation Scholarship Fund for Conservation/Environment Studies

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from public or private Palm Beach County High School pursuing an environmental related degree.
• Demonstrate extracurricular activities in the areas of environmental projects.
• Be a U.S. Citizen and must maintain a 3.0 while in college.
• Not based on need.
• The Scholarship is awarded every two years at a minimum amount of $10,000 per scholarship.

The FLoatarama LGBTQ Youth Fund Grant supports innovative projects for LGBTQ youth in South Florida, addressing critical issues such as homelessness and mental health. Established by a dedicated non-profit organization, the grant aims to foster community partnerships and fund creative solutions to enhance the well-being of this vulnerable population. By prioritizing urgent needs, FLoatarama seeks to create a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQ youth, ensuring they have access to essential resources and opportunities.

The Admirals Cove Foundation Grant supports programs that enhance education, health, and social services for individuals and families in northern Palm Beach County. Focused on local impact, it encourages nonprofits to apply, especially those benefiting Jupiter residents. The foundation emphasizes transparency and accountability in its philanthropic efforts, ensuring contributions lead to meaningful community improvements.

The Golden Bell Education Foundation was created in 1991 by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors as a way to give back to their Chamber members. Every year, the Golden Bell Education Foundation awards grants to Boca Raton public school teachers and administrators for programs that support the development of business skills and workforce readiness. 

There are three levels of funding: Elementary School Level; Middle School Level; and High School Level.

Elementary School Level

Promotion of career and/or academic awareness as it relates to literacy, math or science initiatives. Example: materials that enhance literacy, math, or science skills.
