The notion of a community caring for its own is written in our organizational DNA. Our foundation was created in 1995 with proceeds from the sale of The Venice Hospital, a community hospital that had been founded by local citizens more than four decades earlier. We are a collection of charitable funds created by individuals, families, organizations, and corporations to support their favorite causes in our region and around the world. Over 850 generous philanthropists call Gulf Coast home. Together with our donors, we have invested over $650 million in grants and impact in the areas of health and human services, civic and economic development, education, arts and culture, and the environment.

INTRODUCING “SAM” (SMALL AND MIGHTY)

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation is excited to introduce SAM (Small And Mighty) grant program!

This program was developed to meet the needs of small-scale, non-profit organizations within our community (Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties), and be responsive and reactive to those needs.

To qualify for this program, organizations must have less than $300,000 in annual operating expenses. Additionally, the request must be for a capital expenditure(s).

Highlights of SAM Include:

• The application portal will be available three times per year for a one-month period. The portal will open on the first day of February, June, and October, and close on the first business day of the following month.
• Notification of award/declination will occur within 90 days of the portal closing.
• Organizations that have been in operation for more than one year are eligible.
• Maximum amount that can be requested is $20,000; minimum requested amount is $5,000.
• Any single item over $10,000 requires submittal of two bids (or quotes); each item less than $10,000 requires one bid or quote.
• The purpose of SAM grants is to invest in larger capital expenses that small organizations may find challenging to purchase. We are unable to fund lists of items that should reasonably be purchased by organizations through operating dollars. 
• If awarded, funds must be spent within six months and a final report submitted detailing the impact of the grant.
• Organizations are eligible to apply six months following approval of their final report.

Areas of Interest

The Selby Foundation specializes in supporting area non-profits with capital grants. Capital grants support the construction, acquisition and/or renovation of facilities, as well as the purchase of equipment or software. They may also include the costs of related technical services. Projects focusing on education, human services, arts and community projects including history, science, and/or the environment will be given top priority.

Selby funding is generally intended to assist organizations in pursuing strategic goals by leveraging support from a broad base of constituents. As such, applicants who can demonstrate a variety of other funding sources for their project, and/or those who request less than 10% of the total project cost are usually given priority for approval. Organizations are encouraged to compile a list of their future needs and meet with Foundation staff to explore possible fits.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County offers sponsorship grants to support ticketed events that align with the foundation's mission. This program is designed for organizations that have a local impact in the counties of Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, or DeSoto, and hold a 501(c)3 status. The foundation reviews applications bi-weekly from July to December and monthly from January to April, ensuring diverse geographical representation and donor interests are met.

The Suncoast Credit Union Foundation Grant Program aims to enhance the education, health, and emotional well-being of children within the community. Funded entirely by the Suncoast Credit Union, it supports local initiatives through a unique program where every debit or credit card purchase contributes to the foundation. Since its establishment in 1990, it has allocated over $53 million in funding and scholarships, emphasizing measurable results and compliance with anti-discrimination laws for eligible organizations.

The Cape Coral Community Foundation offers grants to small nonprofit organizations making significant impacts in Southwest Florida. These one-time grants aim to strengthen organizations and support community projects addressing local needs, such as hunger, education, and veteran services. Eligible nonprofits must have a 501(c)(3) status, a two-year work history, and an operating budget under $200,000. Applications from organizations with discriminatory policies are not considered.

The Ferguson Cares Grant is an essential aspect of Ferguson's Sustainability strategy, focusing on social challenges and community wellbeing. This grant supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. dedicated to affordable housing, skilled trades workforce development, clean water access, and enhancing local economic quality of life. Ferguson aims to create lasting partnerships that drive positive impact within their operational regions, reflecting their commitment to social responsibility and community support.

The Adult Full-Year Scholarship, provided by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, aims to empower students aged 24 and older seeking educational advancement in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto Counties. This scholarship supports various accredited educational programs, including professional certifications and degrees at all levels. The Florida Financial Literacy Initiative Grants, established by the Florida Literacy Coalition in partnership with Wells Fargo, aim to enhance financial literacy among participants in adult education and family literacy programs. Grants of up to $5,000 will support these programs in integrating financial education into their curricula. By focusing on parent-child interactive literacy activities and providing essential training for parents, the initiative promotes lifelong financial skills and well-being within communities across Florida.

2025 Urban & Community Forestry Natural Disaster and Recovery Supplement

The scope of this program is designed to improve and reestablish urban forests in 56 peninsular Florida counties that were negatively impacted by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and Milton. These efforts will emphasize not just tree planting but also pruning and efforts to enhance urban forest resiliency through strong planning methods. The primary purpose is to not just replace lost canopy, but to ensure that the urban forest is more resilient to future storms, enhancing the likelihood of long-term recovery. The State of Florida anticipates an allocation of $1,500,000 to applicants through this funding opportunity.

The CFSC Capacity Building Grants aim to empower local nonprofits by enhancing their internal capabilities and sustainability in preparation for the upcoming Giving Challenge. Open to eligible organizations participating in the challenge, these grants provide essential training and resources to strengthen fundraising efforts and foster long-term growth. The application period runs for 30 days, with information sessions available to guide applicants. This funding opportunity is crucial for nonprofits seeking to maximize their impact and engagement.

The Community Impact Grants by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County aim to empower nonprofits working towards economic stability for families and children. Grants up to $25,000 support initiatives that enhance community well-being, with a focus on health, social capital, workforce training, and education. The program also offers capacity-building funding to strengthen organizational effectiveness. Priority is given to projects addressing systemic barriers and fostering holistic support for families, ensuring sustainable community growth.

The GCCF Community Grants, offered by Gulf Coast Community Foundation, aim to enhance community well-being through strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations. With a focus on health, education, and cultural development, these grants support 501(c)(3) organizations that benefit residents in Sarasota, Charlotte, and Boca Grande. Grant requests are accepted on a rolling basis, ensuring timely support for impactful projects. Individual schools and booster clubs are not eligible for funding, as the foundation prioritizes broader community initiatives.

Traditional Grants

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation awards “traditional grants” twice each year.

Organizations with budgets greater than $300,000 that primarily serve Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties have the opportunity to apply.

The Selby Foundation invests in capital support that will help nonprofits achieve more for those they serve.

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation offers traditional grants twice a year to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations with budgets over $300,000 serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. Grants support capital expenditures such as building renovations, technology, and equipment. The Foundation does not fund operating expenses, completed projects, or travel. It encourages organizations to contact the Foundation for preliminary discussions before applying.

Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program

Overview

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federal program that provides funding for housing and community development activities. Congress created the program when it passed the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.

The program, which is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), consists of two components:

FloridaCommerce administers the State Program in Florida through the Small Cities CDBG Program. This is a competitive grant program that awards funds to units of local government in small urban and rural areas. FloridaCommerce receives between 18 and 26 million dollars annually from HUD to award subgrants to eligible units of local government.

The program provides an excellent opportunity for communities to obtain funds for projects that they cannot otherwise afford. CDBG funds can also provide administrative support for local governments that may not have the staffing resources necessary to administer their projects. Examples of CDBG-funded projects include:

• Water and Sewer Improvements,
• Rehabilitation of Substandard Housing,
• Street and Sidewalk Improvements,
• Economic Development Activities that Create Jobs for Low-and Moderate-Income People,
• Downtown Revitalization, including Facade Improvements, Streetscaping, and Underground Utilities,
• Park Facilities and Community Centers, and
• Drainage / Stormwater Improvements.

Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Application Cycle

Funding is available for the Neighborhood Revitalization, Housing Rehabilitation, and Commercial Revitalization program areas. Non-entitlement units of local government are eligible to apply for funding in any of the three program areas if they have an open CDBG subgrant in one of the three areas.

FloridaCommerce also has funding available in the Economic Development program area for job creation and/or retention activities. Non-entitlement units of local government that have an open Neighborhood Revitalization, Housing Rehabilitation, Commercial Revitalization, or Economic Development subgrant are eligible to apply for Economic Development funding.

The Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition BSN Scholarship supports aspiring nurses in the Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee, and Desoto Counties. Established by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, it aims to enhance the number of bachelor’s prepared nurses in the region. Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need and be accepted into an accredited nursing program. Award amounts vary, with a minimum of $2,500 based on individual circumstances, fostering a new generation of healthcare professionals.

The Animal Welfare Grants, offered by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, provide funding up to $25,000 to organizations dedicated to the humane care of animals in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto Counties. This initiative aims to support emergency veterinary treatments and essential equipment purchases for clinics, ensuring that local animal welfare organizations can effectively address urgent medical needs and enhance their operational capabilities.

The National Estuary Program Watersheds Grant Program, administered by Restore America’s Estuaries and supported by the EPA, funds competitive projects addressing critical threats to estuaries. Key priorities include habitat restoration, enhancing coastal resilience against extreme weather, managing nutrient impacts, and mitigating stormwater runoff. Established in 1987, the program aims to improve ecological integrity and water quality in 28 estuaries nationwide, providing essential funding and guidance to local initiatives.

The Florida Forest Legacy Grant Program aims to conserve critical forest areas threatened by development. It encourages landowners to maintain forested lands through economic incentives, ensuring sustainable management practices. Participation can involve selling property or retaining ownership with conservation easements. Funded by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the program receives support from the Great American Outdoors Act, which secures ongoing financial resources for land conservation efforts benefiting all Americans.

2026-27 Innovative Service Development (ISD) Grant Opportunity

The Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged is pleased to announce the release of the Innovative Service Development (ISD) Grant Program application package for Fiscal Year 2026–2027.

This is a competitive grant program for Community Transportation Coordinators and Non-Traditional Transportation Service Providers. Anticipated total available funding is $6 million, contingent upon legislative authority and Governor’s approval.

This funding opportunity supports projects that test new transportation services that improve the cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and accessibility of transportation services for transportation disadvantaged individuals.

Introduction

The Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund is administered by the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged (CTD) in accordance with Section 427.0159, Florida Statutes (F.S.). The Trust Fund provides a dedicated funding source to support the Commission’s statutory responsibilities and is appropriated annually by the Legislature for the state fiscal year (July–June).

For Fiscal Year 2026–2027, the Commission anticipates a $6 million appropriation to support the Innovative Service Development (ISD) Grant Program.

The ISD Grant Program supports projects that improve the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of transportation services. Grant funds are limited to reimbursing a portion of eligible transportation disadvantaged passenger trips. Grantees must provide services prior to submitting invoices for reimbursement, which will be issued on a per-trip and/or mileage basis.

Funded projects may include, but are not limited to:

• Expanding service availability (e.g., evenings, weekends or level of service)
• Serving currently underserved populations
• Enhancing regional or cross-county mobility
• Reducing barriers to accessing public transportation 

The scholarships we award vary each year based on the unique criteria of each scholarship. In 2025, we awarded over $3 million in scholarships to over 500 students, including $1.3 million to 110 students in western NC through our Disaster Relief and Resilience Scholarship.

Depending on the scholarship, it may pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and/or other related educational expenses.

Dr. Henderson D. Mabe, Jr. Scholarship Endowment Fund for Undergraduate Study

Graduates or graduating seniors from a Harnett County high school who are attending a college, university, community or junior college, technical school, nursing school, or other post-high school training, pursuing a degree or a certificate in the medical fields, such as nursing, medical technology, radiology technology, pharmacy, and other curricula focusing on medical services. 

This will be outlined in your award notification. The minimum scholarship award amount is $1,000.

NCCF scholarship awards are only issued to not-for-profit institutions and government entities such as public colleges or universities.

The LPGA Foundation

The LPGA Foundation supports women and young people through programs and initiatives aimed at empowering them through the game of golf. Since its founding, The LPGA Foundation has touched more than 500,000 lives through various scholarship and financial assistance programs, along with its flagship junior golf program, LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. The LPGA Foundation was established in 1991 and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which supports junior golf programs, scholarships, and financial assistance programs for women and young ladies.

The Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship

The Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship was established in 1994 by the LPGA Foundation to honor the late Dinah Shore, a graduate of Vanderbilt University, a Hollywood entertainer, and an honorary member of the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. This Scholarship also helps preserve her legacy, as an advocate for women’s golf, co-founder of The Chevron Championship and honorary member of the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame.

The Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship is granted annually to female high school seniors who are pursuing a college education, but will not be playing collegiate golf. In an effort to preserve the legacy of Dinah Shore and her contributions to women's golf, Chevron is offering two (2 scholarships that will be awarded per year renewable over 4 years for each recipient.

The scholarships we award vary each year based on the unique criteria of each scholarship. In 2025, we awarded over $3 million in scholarships to over 500 students, including $1.3 million to 110 students in western NC through our Disaster Relief and Resilience Scholarship.

Depending on the scholarship, it may pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and/or other related educational expenses. 

Dr. Bob Townsend Scholarship Endowment

Hoke County resident who is a high school graduate and has been accepted to an accredited college or university and plans to study medicine. 

This will be outlined in your award notification. The minimum scholarship award amount is $1,000.

The Chevron Changing the Face of Golf Scholarship, awarded by the LPGA Foundation, aims to empower female high school seniors from minority backgrounds pursuing STEM studies. Established in 2022, this scholarship promotes diversity in golf and education, honoring Dinah Shore's legacy. By supporting young women, the LPGA Foundation continues its mission to change the face of golf and provide educational opportunities, enhancing representation in both golf and STEM fields.

Established by Susquehanna County President Judge, Jason Legg, in honor of his mother to provide a college or post-secondary degree program scholarship for a student from one of the six Susquehanna County high school districts, including home schooled students.

Cody Albert Memorial Scholarship

Established by Dale and Linda Albert in memory of their son Cody to provide a college scholarship to students from Susquehanna County who will major in the Visual Arts, Psychology, or Physical Therapy and who have overcome anxiety, depression, or other adversity.
