Marcelle Heritage Foundation Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

This scholarship fund is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Norbert S. Marcelle Jr. and Dr. Beatrice L. Marcelle. The Marcelles had several titles during their long and illustrious careers, including pastors, founders, leaders, educators, and social activists. They always gave back to their community and came up with a vision to expand opportunities for higher learning to the most disadvantaged by establishing a scholarship fund.

The scholarship will provide financial assistance to support selected college-bound and vocational school students in achieving their higher education goals. This scholarship is available to the Emmanuel Deliverance Church of God congregation, their family members, and graduating high school seniors from low-income communities in Palm Beach County.

Lawrence A. Sanders Scholarship Fund for Creative Writing

About the Fund

Lawrence Sanders was born in 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a BA from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He worked for a while at Macy’s Department Store before joining the U.S. Marines. After his service, he was an editorial writer for a magazine before turning to writing novels full time at the age of 50. Lawrence became a highly successful writer of crime fiction, and author of some three dozen novels. He created the Arch McNally series about a Palm Beach private investigator, and his novels, The Anderson Tapes and The First Deadly Sin, were adapted into popular films.

Lawrence A. Sanders Foundation Vo-Tech Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

The Donor hereby designates and the Foundation accepts the following guidelines and criteria for the granting of awards from this Fund. Recipients will:

• Reside in Palm Beach or Martin Counties
• Hold a high school diploma or GED
• Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Career Certificate Program at Palm Beach State College or another accredited vocational, technical, or trades-training institution(s)located in Palm Beach or Martin Counties, and be deemed eligible for training in one of the following: HVAC Technology; Electrical Apprenticeship/Electrical Technology; Welding Technology; Automotive or Diesel Technology; Industrial/Mechanical Technology; Other approved technical/vocational programs aligned with workforce needs
• Demonstrate a commitment to complete the training
• Demonstrate financial need

Impact 100 Palm Beach County empowers women to collectively fund transformative $100,000 grants for nonprofits, enhancing community initiatives in southern Palm Beach County. The grant application process includes attending a Nonprofit Grant Workshop and submitting a Letter of Intent. Successful applicants will undergo a rigorous review, leading to a formal request for a Full Proposal. The program emphasizes high-impact projects across various focus areas, promoting sustainable change in the community.

Kim Love Sartory Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

Kim was born in Milan, Tenn., and moved to Jupiter in her preschool years when her father accepted a position at Pratt and Whitney. Kim began her banking career at 1st American Bank, later moving on to charter the opening of Admiralty Bank. She left the finance world in 1992 to work with her husband, Larry in the family business. She was dedicated to advancing the careers of women, serving on the board of Executive Women and as an active committee member of the Business Development Board and North Palm Beach Chamber. She passed away unexpectedly, and this scholarship serves to perpetuate her memory and spirit.

Jonathan Toppel Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Applicants must be a resident of Palm Beach or Martin County
• Must pursue a degree in fine arts
• Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better
• Selection is based on financial need
• Scholarship is for full-time students who will be enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Student may attend any college or university in the United States that offers a degree in fine arts

Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards

The Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards honor excellence in investigative and public service reporting that exposes injustice, elevates community voices and holds the powerful to account in South Florida.

Nominations are open to recognize journalists, student journalists, newsrooms, public media outlets, and documentary filmmakers for outstanding original local reporting about local issues within Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach or Monroe counties. 

Submissions may include:

• A single piece or a series of up to three related pieces
• Nominations are encouraged across different mediums, including print, digital, television, radio, podcasts, video, audio, data visualization, and documentary film (up to 120 minutes in length are eligible)

Anyone can nominate a journalist or team of journalists. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Submissions will be judged by the rigor of newsgathering, quality of storytelling, inclusion of community voices, and the impact on public understanding or action. Jurors include highly experienced professional journalists, members of the community and members of the Esserman family.

The awards recognize multiple forms of excellence in journalism, including accountability reporting, explanatory reporting, beat reporting, local community reporting, and student journalism. 

The First Horizon Foundation, a private charitable organization established in 1993, has committed over $100 million to various community initiatives. The AFM: Tau Grants provide unrestricted operating support to nonprofits serving marginalized groups, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and individuals with disabilities. These grants aim to strengthen organizations by funding strategic planning, technology upgrades, and essential infrastructure costs. Eligible organizations must meet specific criteria, such as not having received funding in previous cycles and ensuring diverse leadership. This initiative reflects Allegany Franciscan Ministries' commitment to fostering equitable and caring communities.

The Allegany Community Outreach (ACOR) Grants, funded by Allegany Franciscan Ministries, aim to improve health and quality of life in marginalized communities through short-term support for local projects.
