Nonprofit and community organizations providing no-cost small business development and technical assistance can seek US $100,000 - US $400,000 to serve minority and other underserved entrepreneurs in Minnesota. Grants from Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development help providers support Black, Indigenous, people of color, veterans, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, low-income individuals, and rural residents.

Through the incredible generosity of our donors, the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound manages 26 scholarship funds that offer a wide range of scholarship awards and encourage students of all backgrounds and educational interests to apply. We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our many scholarship donors, advisors, and scholarship committee members for their investment in our student's bright futures this year and for many years to come!

Learning Seed Foundation Scholarship

The Learning Seed Foundation Scholarship Fund was established by the Learning Seed Foundation to assist graduating high school seniors in Thurston and Pierce counties in obtaining a higher education. This scholarship is designed to benefit primarily students of color who have overcome significant obstacles and demonstrate a commitment to others. The scholarship has the potential to be renewed for up to an additional 3 years of undergraduate education. Reapplication each year is required.

The Deluxe Corporation Foundation's ERG Grant Program supports diverse and inclusive initiatives by empowering employee resource groups (ERGs) to partner with nonprofits addressing relevant social issues. Each of the ten ERGs will award a $25,000 grant to a selected organization, fostering community impact and collaboration. The foundation, established in 1954, has invested over $109 million in charitable causes, focusing on financial literacy, education, and community support to enhance lives and promote entrepreneurship.

Each year, Innovia awards over $400,000 in scholarships to deserving students like you who are college-bound or pursuing vocational or technical training. Single scholarship awards range between $500 and $4,000.

Diversity in Advertising Scholarship

The scholarship is intended for students studying Marketing, Advertising or Design with a career focus of Digital Marketing, Advertising, Design and/or Computer Science at any accredited institution. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement.

Special consideration will be given to those active in school activities, community service, and work experience. Previous recipients of this award are eligible to reapply. 

The Bolton Greater Together Community Fund, established by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, aims to enhance the quality of life for Bolton residents through targeted grants. Launched in 2019 with an initial investment of $100,000, the fund addresses community needs and encourages civic engagement. In 2024, it awarded $36,752.59 to support eleven local nonprofits, focusing on impactful projects that benefit a significant number of residents and address unmet needs.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation's System Innovations Grant aims to strengthen community systems for youth, particularly Indigenous and Black youth, through collaborative initiatives. Eligible projects must reflect community diversity and include young leaders. Funding supports groundwork and implementation activities over a term of 2 to 6 years, addressing key outcomes such as creating safe spaces and promoting employment pathways. The grant encourages culturally responsive approaches to benefit youth facing systemic barriers across Ontario.

The Theodore Edson Parker Foundation Grant supports a variety of community needs in Lowell, MA, focusing on children, disadvantaged young women, and the elderly. Established in 1944, it funds social services, education, and cultural programs, among others. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt and not private foundations. The foundation favors projects that create equitable opportunities for underserved groups, promoting a balanced representation in community leadership. General operating costs are typically not funded.

The Empire Health Foundation is committed to strengthening communities through connection and learning by providing sponsorship funding for events that promote health equity and social justice. While they are no longer accepting sponsorship applications for 2025, they encourage grassroots organizations serving marginalized communities in eastern Washington to reach out for future opportunities. Their focus includes supporting 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and low-income populations, fostering collaboration, and enhancing community well-being.

The Washtenaw Artist Grants program, in partnership with the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, promotes racial equity and supports local artists in Washtenaw County. It funds community-based projects that enrich the artistic landscape and engage diverse audiences. Eligible projects include exhibitions, performances, and arts education, focusing on BIPOC communities. Grants can cover artist fees, materials, and other project costs, fostering inclusive cultural experiences for residents.

The AISES Indian Motorcycle Academic Scholarship offers $5,000 annually to support Native students pursuing degrees in STEM fields. Sponsored by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, this scholarship aims to empower Indigenous students and enhance diversity in STEM. Eligible applicants must be current AISES members, full-time students, and enrolled citizens or descendants of recognized Native tribes. This scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also fosters community and innovation within the STEM landscape.

The Connecticut Health Foundation Program Grants support projects aimed at improving health equity for people of color. The foundation focuses on initiatives that influence health systems, funding innovative approaches that can lead to sustainable change. Eligible applicants include organizations with 501(c)(3) status and public agencies. Grants typically exceed $25,000 and prioritize projects that address racial and ethnic health disparities, ensuring community voices are included in policy discussions.

The Connecticut Health Foundation President’s Discretionary Grant provides funding up to $25,000 for projects that aim to improve health equity and access within communities. This grant supports innovative approaches, research on sustainable funding, and efforts to elevate community voices in policy discussions. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and public agencies. This rolling grant opportunity is ideal for time-sensitive projects that address systemic health disparities in Connecticut.

The Brandon Key Scholarship Fund, established by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, honors a young man dedicated to community service and civil rights. This scholarship supports Middle Tennessee students with a minimum GPA of 2.5, who demonstrate a commitment to serving their community and plan to attend an accredited college. Preference is given to applicants from low socioeconomic backgrounds aiming for Historically Black Colleges or Universities, promoting inclusivity and opportunity for future generations.

The Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Bridge to Doctorate Scholars Program, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to recruit and retain minority graduate students in STEM fields. This program offers significant benefits, including a $32,000 annual stipend and $12,000 educational allowance for two years, fostering a supportive community through monthly dinners for Indigenous graduate students. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, and have participated in an LSAMP program.

The Connecticut Health Foundation offers sponsorship for health-related events that reflect its mission. Funding supports various events like conferences, forums, and community gatherings, with a focus on partnerships that provide recognition and promotional opportunities. Eligibility is limited to 501(c)(3) organizations or public entities, ensuring the events benefit Connecticut residents. Applications are evaluated based on alignment with foundation priorities and potential to enhance visibility for CT Health.

The Avel Louise Gordly Scholarship supports Black women graduates of Oregon high schools who wish to pursue post-secondary education in Oregon or at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Award amounts vary, with the possibility of renewal for up to four years. Eligible applicants must be Oregon residents, identify as Black and female, and enroll at least half-time in a public or nonprofit private college or university in the United States.

Positioning member institutions as a viable college option for students and investing in institutional capacity to improve student outcomes; creating transformational support programs to ensure students are enrolling and persisting through college completion; building awareness of educational attainment and cultivating college-going behaviors within the African American community.

About the UNCF Lighted Pathways Program

Increasing the number of Black investment management professionals one opportunity at a time

According to The American College and the CFP Board, African Americans only make up 5% of financial advisors and 2% of certified financial planners (CFP), even though African Americans represent 13.4% of the U.S. population.

The UNCF Lighted Pathways programs meets the disparity and lack of Black talent in asset management through the UNCF Lighted Pathways initiative which provides scholarships and internships to African American undergraduate students interested in the investment management industry. Through this initiative, UNCF Lighted Pathways aims to create a career pathway to attract, develop, and retain Black talent for the asset management industry.

The UNCF Lighted Pathways Program excites, educates, and empowers young people by supporting personal and professional development, driving company performance, and providing the asset management industry the talent they need to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. This program offers students a glimpse inside the dynamic, global asset management industries and the career opportunities, potential and rewards within them.

Students are afforded the opportunity to receive $5,000 in scholarships and/or participate in internships in the financial industry provided by the program’s partners.

The HEEF: Hispanic Education Endowment Fund Scholarship provides academic financial support to US Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Dream Act/AB 540 students residing in Orange County, California. With awards starting at $2,500, this fund assists high school and community college transfers who demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in a four-year college or university in Fall 2025. Additional donor-specific sub-funds offer varying amounts, enhancing accessibility to higher education.

Native Forward awards are allocated based on the financial aid information provided by the institution’s Financial Aid Office. Awards can vary, ranging from $100 to $30,000 per academic year.

Native Forward Scholars Fund members of federally and state-recognized Tribes as well as first and second-generation descendants. However, Native Forward Scholars Fund scholarship opportunities have different Tribal eligibility requirements and can be determined by submitting a Tribal Eligibility Certificate.

Grace Wall Barreda Memorial Scholarship

This opportunity is provided to honor the life and legacy of Grace Wall Barreda.

The purpose of the Grace Wall Barreda Scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students pursuing degrees full-time at an accredited institution in Public Health or Environmental Science/Studies.

This opportunity is a need-based award.

LinkScholars Program Scholarship ($2,000) 

This renewable scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Richland, or Sumter counties in South Carolina.

The Mabel and Allan Mackenzie Scholarship supports Black or African American student athletes from Deschutes County attending community college in Oregon. This scholarship is aimed at those who demonstrate academic or vocational potential but face financial challenges in covering their college costs. Awards vary, and students must reapply annually, with the possibility of renewal for up to two years, making it a valuable opportunity for deserving students.

The Institute for Cultural Initiatives Scholarship, managed by the Oregon Community Foundation, supports bi-lingual (Spanish/English) Latino students attending Oregon community colleges. This scholarship is designed for residents and graduates of Oregon high schools who enroll at least half-time. Award amounts vary, and prior recipients must reapply to renew their scholarships for up to four years. This initiative underscores the importance of education as a vital investment in Oregon's future.

The Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship offers a renewable $10,000 award for non-graduating Indigenous students pursuing art or architecture at Portland State University. Established in 2022 to honor Lillian Pitt, this scholarship supports students who identify as Indigenous from U.S. states and territories. Recipients must be enrolled full-time or three-quarters time and are expected to attend a spring event for award presentations, fostering opportunities for Indigenous youth to excel in their studies.

The Aerospace Career Enhancement (ACE) Scholarship is designed for eligible American Indian and Alaska Native students pursuing engineering and high-demand degrees in Washington state. In partnership with SPEEA, this need-based scholarship offers $5,000 annually, with additional support for recipients with dependent children. The program aims to assist students entering professional or technical careers in the aerospace industry, ensuring they have the resources necessary to succeed in their educational and career goals.

The BIE Special Higher Education Program offers financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate and professional students enrolled full-time in accredited institutions across various fields. Awards fluctuate annually based on applicant qualifications and available funding, ensuring support aligns with need-based criteria. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate Tribal affiliation through a Tribal Eligibility Certificate. This initiative aims to empower Indigenous scholars in their academic pursuits.

The Elizabeth Furber Scholarship honors the legacy of Elizabeth Furber by providing financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native female graduate students. This scholarship supports students pursuing full-time degrees in various fields, including fine arts, music, and creative writing. As a need-based award, it requires applicants to demonstrate Tribal affiliation through a Tribal Eligibility Certificate. This opportunity empowers eligible students to achieve their academic goals.
