Best Grants for Minorities in Utah

NCAA Division II member schools and multisport conference offices in Utah can apply for the Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant, which awards US $30,000 to fund a full-time, entry-level athletics administrator for one academic year. An additional $3,000 supports the intern’s professional development, advancing minority and women’s leadership in athletics administration.

Utah NCAA Division II member colleges creating new assistant coaching positions to increase ethnic minority and gender representation can apply for the Coaching Enhancement Grant, which provides US $48,000 over three years for salary, wages, and benefits. With a mission to broaden diversity in athletics, the National Collegiate Athletic Association supports Division II schools nationwide through this program.

Utah minority-serving nonprofits and local government programs addressing emergency food needs can access funding through Utah Department of Workforce Services to support food pantries, food banks, and prepared meal sites. Grants up to US $150,000 may cover operations, transportation, supplies, equipment capacity building, technical assistance, staffing, and warehousing and distribution of food for low-income Utahns.

Grants from Society of Health and Physical Educators help Utah minority health and physical education professionals gain recognition for long-term scholarship, mentorship, and service. Eligible candidates are minority SHAPE America members with at least ten years in HPERD settings who have increased involvement of ethnic minorities or underserved populations in their field.

Undergraduate and associate-degree students who are Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) members can receive scholarship support for full-time study at accredited U.S. colleges and universities. Focused on educational aid, Presbyterian Mission Agency invites eligible Utah students, including those from minority communities, to apply for up to US $6,000 toward 2025–2026 tuition costs.

Undergraduate engineering students from marginalized ethnic or gender groups pursuing climate-focused engineering degrees in the U.S., including those from Utah, can receive renewable support for educational costs through the PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship. Architecture Foundation of Oregon partners with PAE to increase racial and gender diversity in engineering and offer mentorship and career connections.

With a mission to expand educational opportunity, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts provides Utah minority students with up to US $3,000 for one year of college costs, including tuition and fees. Students of color, particularly those from Hampden County, can apply through the broader scholarship program and may be matched to multiple eligible awards.

High school seniors and GED students pursuing higher education can access scholarships through the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound, with awards of US $3,000. With a mission to support students facing obstacles, it prioritizes students of color who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to others, which may benefit minority students similar to those in Utah.

Minority high school seniors and recent graduates pursuing postsecondary education can receive US $1,000 scholarships for college or technical school, including HBCUs, from The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond. Grants from The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond help Utah organizations serving Black American and other minority students identify a relevant out-of-state scholarship opportunity.

Black, Indigenous, and other students of color pursuing marketing, advertising, design, or computer science studies can receive scholarship support for accredited programs, including those in Utah. Focused on education and career preparation, Innovia Foundation invites applicants who show academic achievement and may also be active in school activities, community service, or work.

Nonprofit organizations with at least five years’ experience serving Black, Latina, and Native American women and girls can seek funding to recruit and retain them in college-level computing programs, including in Utah. Focused on evidence-backed, gender-inclusive computing education, Reboot Representation Tech Coalition prioritizes multi-geography programs leveraging existing infrastructure and other funding.

Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students in STEM fields, including those from Utah, can receive academic scholarship support for higher education. American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), with Indian Motorcycle and the Polaris Foundation, offers US $5,000 awards to full-time AISES members studying areas like mechanical engineering, digital and information technology, manufacturing, supply chain, or related STEM disciplines.

Indigenous graduate students pursuing STEM PhDs who are U.S. citizens and LSAMP alumni can receive substantial stipend and education support through this program, which serves students from Utah and nationwide. With a mission to enrich graduate education, Montana State University provides funding and community-building opportunities for Louis Stokes Bridge to the Doctorate scholars.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Miller Johnson Michigan Diversity Law School Scholarship

Open to students of color accepted to or presently attending an accredited law school within the US with a permanent residence in Michigan or attending a Michigan law school with financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) program supports federally-recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes and organizations in advancing health-related research. It aims to enhance research careers and infrastructure through a competitive application process. Funded by the US Dept. of Health & Human Services, this initiative invites eligible entities to apply, ensuring that only high-quality proposals undergo peer review for potential funding.

David & Priscilla Morris Scholarship

The David and Priscilla Morris Scholarship was established to provide tuition support for Black or African American students attending Western Michigan University.

KZCF scholarships may be applied to any items under your school’s cost of attendance (COA). Each school has a different COA that may include items such as tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, health insurance, etc. Scholarship payments are sent directly to your institution.

This scholarship is a one-time award, meaning that it will not repeat in subsequent years. The money awarded can be applied to your education costs alongside other scholarships or funding that you may receive, and there are no necessary steps once funds are sent.

The Talati Family Scholarship Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, aims to support students of color pursuing higher education. Students can apply through a single online application, which connects them to various scholarships based on eligibility. Awards can reach up to $3,000 and may impact financial aid offers. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students attending accredited institutions in the U.S., particularly those from Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties.

Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds.

Kansas City Pride Community Alliance Scholarship Fund

The KCPCA Scholarship provides needed financial assistance to support LGBTQ+ students who are resident of Jackson, Clay, Platte or Buchannan counties in Missouri and Johnson, Wyandotte or Douglas counties in Kansas of all background and educational interests. We prioritize LGBTA+ students who need it most and who have some or all of the following experiences:

• People of color, Black, Indigenous
• Trans, Non-binary, Gender Expansive, Two spirit people
• People with disabilities – including people living with chronic illnesses, HIV, neurodivergence, mental health challenges
• People who have or are experiencing housing instability
• People living in rural areas
• People who have financial need without access to financial support
• People who have experienced family rejection.

The Black Men Building Resources Scholarship, offered by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, supports African-American undergraduates from Kent County. This scholarship aims to empower students pursuing college or career training by removing barriers to academic success. With awards ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, the program prioritizes applicants with high financial need, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to those who strive for educational advancement in West Michigan.

Unless noted otherwise in the scholarship description and criteria statement, applicants can attend accredited schools of their choice within the United States.

CFNJ scholarships awards vary. On average, awards range from $500 to $2,500. However, the award could be larger based on the number of qualified applicants and the parameters set by donors who have established the funds. 

ETV: Linda D. Murphy Village Strivers Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a Black/African-American graduating high school senior from Morristown or Morris Township who has demonstrated consistent academic improvement throughout high school. Applicants will be evaluated on their engagement through activities or programs that support the local community (community service, church engagement, or paid or unpaid work experience) and unmet financial need.

CRST Wicozani Wiwokiaye Oyate Scholarship for Nursing

To provide financial support to Native American students pursuing a registered nursing degree.

For a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) member aiming to earn a nursing degree, if there are no eligible CRST candidates, the scholarship will be accessible to another tribal member. Proof of tribal enrollment is required for both applicants. This scholarship is available to students in their second through fifth years who have sustained a GPA of 2.0 or above. When applying for this scholarship, articulate how your nursing education will contribute to enhancing the health outcomes of Native American communities.

Osborn scholarship

The Osborn scholarship is for BIPOC students with demonstrated financial need, who are enrolled in or planning to pursue an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program in landscape architecture or civil engineering. Priority will be given to students with a demonstrated a commitment to developing public infrastructure and/or public places in the State of Washington. The intention of the scholarship is to create opportunities for those who have faced historic barriers to access to these professions in the United States. The scholarship founders believe that the design challenges of the 21st century require diverse voices to solve. They look forward to the stronger design solutions to which future scholarship recipients will contribute. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate the grit, resiliency and aptitude that is necessary for success in these professions. This may be demonstrated by any combination of at least two of the following characteristics: overcame a significant personal challenge to maintain at least a B average at school, honor roll grade point average, demonstrated ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, demonstrated service contributions to their community.

The Estelle Massey Osborne Scholarship supports exceptional African American nurses pursuing master's degrees. Applicants must have at least two semesters remaining in their program, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.6, and hold a current RN license. This scholarship, provided by Nurses Educational Funds Inc., honors Estelle Massey Osborne, the first African American nurse to earn a master's degree in the U.S. It aims to promote nursing leadership through financial assistance for advanced education.
