Grant Purpose and Requirements:

Districts identified with a Priority rating on the Iowa School Performance Profile are eligible for support to build district-level capacity and strengthen alignment of processes through professional development. Grant funds must be used for professional learning that aligns with and supports district and building action plans, ensuring effective implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) and high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). Professional development should focus intentionally on identified student groups, particularly students with disabilities, and align the district’s IDEA-DA designation with building-level ESSA action plans. District plans must include monitoring of professional learning through implementation of district-level EBPs, regular data collection, embedded coaching, and ongoing analysis to support reflection and refinement. State Historical Society of Iowa

The State Historical Society of Iowa is the official historical repository of the State of Iowa, providing grants, education, and outreach about Iowa’s history.

The society preserves and provides access to Iowa’s historical resources through programs, exhibitions and projects while advocating for Iowa’s past and serving as a connector to the future.

Historical Resource Development Program

The program provides grant funding to help preserve, conserve, interpret, enhance, and educate the public about Iowa’s historical assets. The Historical Resource Development Program provides funding for documentary collections, historic preservation and museums. 

Emergency Historical Resource Development Program

Emergency HRDP applications will be accepted each year on July 1. Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The differences between the regular grant application process and the emergency application process are as follows:

  • Please contact the grants manager by email or phone to see if funds are available.
  • Attach a cover letter that explains the threat to the resource.
  • The threat to the resource cannot be due to delinquency on the part of the current owner.
  • If new ownership is the reason for the emergency, the new owner must have taken ownership within the previous 12 months.
  • The maximum grant request is $15,000.
  • Funds become available at the beginning of each fiscal year, July 1st. There isn’t a specific deadline. Submit the application as soon as it is ready, as long as it is not prior to July 1st if you are requesting funds from the next fiscal year.
  • Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all emergency funds for each grant category are expended.
  • A staff grants steering committee reviews the applications. Allow up to 30 days for review.
  • Eligible properties in the historic preservation category will have an opinion of eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places from the State Historic Preservation Office.

Special Derelict Building Funding Round

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has launched a special $1 million funding round through the Derelict Building Grant Program to help small Iowa communities eliminate asbestos hazards in vacant structures.

This special round of funding is open to Iowa municipalities with populations under 5,000. Eligible properties must be locally owned, commercial or public buildings unoccupied for 6+ months that meet local derelict building criteria. Note: Historically listed properties are excluded.

The Iowa DNR is offering financial assistance, including covering 100% of Certified Asbestos Inspection costs and 100% of abatement costs up to $10,000 (a 50% cost-share applies to abatement amounts over $10,000). Funding is distributed on a reimbursement basis upon project completion.

Through this program, eligible applicants may receive funding to support the construction of new training facilities or the purchase of essential equipment which will increase the number of slots available in new programs training workers in high-demand jobs in Iowa.

The goal of CTPE is to ensure these institutions and new programs have the physical space and equipment necessary to educate and train more future workers in fields that are currently experiencing high demand within the state. By increasing training capacity, the program aims to prepare a larger and higher skilled workforce to meet the needs of Iowa’s high-demand industries and employers.
