Community Engaged Research Grant (NBCOT®)

Background

It is imperative that occupational therapy research is grounded in the priorities and lived experiences of the individuals it aims to serve, particularly for historically marginalized or underrepresented communities.

Community-engaged research is a collaborative approach that establishes equitable and meaningful partnerships between researchers, community members, service providers, and other stakeholders throughout all phases of the research process. It centers on addressing community-identified priorities and co-creation of research that produces mutually beneficial outcomes.

By ensuring that research is culturally relevant, contextually appropriate, and responsive to community priorities, this approach enhances its impact while improving health, participation, and quality of life.

Program Mission

The Community Engaged Research Grant program supports studies that apply rigorous qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies to address research priorities and service or knowledge gaps identified in partnership with communities.

AOTF emphasizes the importance of equitable partnerships in which power, decision-making, and responsibility are shared between researchers, practitioners, community-based organizations, people with lived experience, and other relevant partners.

By fostering these inclusive practices, AOTF aims to ensure that occupational therapy scholarship remains scientifically rigorous, equitable, and responsive to the real-world needs of diverse communities.

Funding Priorities

All proposed projects must:

Review Process: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with an annual review beginning January 31. The national PTE Executive Board evaluates all submissions.

Multiple Awards: When appropriate, a second award may be considered to distinguish outstanding individual and interchapter accomplishments.

PTE Grant for Excellence in Interchapter Collaboration

The PTE Grant for Excellence in Interchapter Collaboration honors and recognizes Pi Theta Epsilon chapters that excel in creating meaningful partnerships with other chapters. This award celebrates collaborative efforts that support PTE’s mission and expand the impact of scholarly activities across multiple institutions.

This grant recognizes interchapter collaborations that:

• Support and advance the Pi Theta Epsilon mission

Collaboration Definition: Activities organized and implemented by two or more Pi Theta Epsilon chapters working together toward a common scholarly goal.

Participants will gain valuable research experience through collaborations with DOE National Laboratories and industry, preparing them as the next generation of skilled Ph.D. scientists and engineers to tackle pressing national science and technology challenges.

The Heliophysics Low-Cost Access to Space (H-LCAS) program, under NASA, aims to foster innovative technologies and instruments for flight investigations utilizing sounding rockets, high-altitude balloons, and CubeSats. By advancing Heliophysics science, H-LCAS provides critical pathways for technology maturation and suborbital demonstrations. Proposals should align with the National Research Council's Decadal Strategy for Solar and Space Physics, emphasizing societal applications and supporting human exploration initiatives.

The OJJDP FY 2026 Emergency Planning for Juvenile Justice Residential Facilities program aims to enhance emergency preparedness in juvenile justice facilities across the country. This funding opportunity supports the development and implementation of comprehensive emergency plans that prioritize the safety of youth and staff, ensure effective communication with families, and maintain operational continuity during crises. Operation Grant

Grants vary depending on the organization’s need to support the number of adoptable pets listed on Petfinder and are awarded on a monthly basis throughout the year until all funds are depleted.

Single Ventricle Research Fund (SVRF)

Our flagship funding program — the Single Ventricle Research Fund (SVRF) — is an annual research award program that supports foundational studies aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with single ventricle heart disease. By addressing the organ- and multi-organ-level complications and clinical sequelae that drive long-term morbidity and mortality, the SVRF seeks to close critical gaps in understanding and treatment, and accelerate progress toward better, more predictive, and preventative care.

In its sixth cycle, the SVRF welcomes foundational research that is directly relevant to improving outcomes for individuals with single ventricle heart disease.

What Fits

Through the SVRF, Additional Ventures aims to accelerate foundational research that will lead to improved care and new therapeutic opportunities grounded in a mechanistic understanding of single ventricle heart disease.

The 2027 SVRF welcomes research aligned with the focus areas and strategic topics described in the Additional Ventures’ 2026 Research Roadmap. We are particularly interested in proposals that seek to elucidate the mechanisms underlying, prevent, or reverse the interrelated organ- and multi-organ-level sequelae that contribute to long-term morbidity and mortality.

Eligible investigators include postdoctoral fellows or equivalents holding a mentored position. Collaborative proposals will not be accepted through this track.
