The Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education (FARE) Program, managed by the National Science Foundation (NSF), supports advanced research in atmospheric sciences through specialized facilities like the Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF) and Community Instruments and Facilities (CIF). These resources enable the geosciences research community to conduct essential fieldwork and studies by providing access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and logistical support. Central Kentucky Community Foundation (CKCF) Scholarships 

We have been awarding scholarships for over 60 years to local students through the generosity of people like you who want to make educational opportunities available to more students. We are the largest awarder of scholarship funds in the region. In 2025, CKCF awarded 170 scholarships totaling over $373,000 to 126 local students. Just as education is critical to achieving community and economic development, scholarships are essential to further education. Scholarships expand our youth’s opportunities for educational advancement. This educational access facilitates life dreams and career options that lead to financial independence.

We work with donors who desire to make these opportunities available to people, students who can benefit from both the financial investment and personal empowerment from a scholarship award, and colleges and universities to streamline the process for both the donor and student.

Llewellyn Memorial Scholarship

The Sports 4 Life Grants, co-founded by the Women’s Sports Foundation and ESPN, aim to promote the health and development of girls in underserved communities. This initiative focuses on increasing participation and retention rates of Black, Hispanic, and Native American girls in sports through funding for coaching, equipment, and facilities. By fostering leadership and self-esteem, the program seeks to empower young girls and provide them with lifelong benefits from sports participation.

The Community Foundation of Noble County offers a wide range of scholarships to support local students in achieving their academic and career aspirations. 

Ellenbecker, Oliver and Eleanor Education Scholarship Fund

Awards $3,500 one time to high school seniors who attend a Noble County high school and will begin a four-year bachelor’s program at an accredited college or university in the Fall, majoring in education to become a teacher. Applicants must have lived in Noble County at least one year.

About Francis H. and Margery T. Escott Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student in need of financial support who is pursuing an education beyond high school. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in math or business administration.

This scholarship is to provide financial assistance for students seeking a higher education leading to a degree, certification or licensure at an accredited institution approved by the Foundation. Student must be a child or stepchild of a current employee in good standing who works as operations personnel with one of the following agencies: All municipal police departments located in Henderson County, Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, Hendersonville Fire Department, all Henderson County Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Henderson County Rescue Squad. Students may live within or outside of Henderson County, NC; meet all academic requirements of the attending institution; and be a United States citizen.

This is a renewable scholarship.

About Denis Barton ScholarshipApplicant must be a resident of either Transylvania or Henderson County who has graduated from a public, private, parochial or home school program who wishes to pursue an undergraduate degree at a degree granting college or university and who demonstrates the need for financial assistance in order to attend an institution of higher learning. The applicant should have a cumulative GPA equivalent to a "C average" upon graduation. Preference will be given to students from Transylvania County. Financial need will be more strongly considered than grades. An adult student will be considered for this scholarship if he or she can demonstrate reason as to why he or she did not pursue his or her college education immediately after high school. Such reasons would include but are not limited to military service, medical reasons, family obligations, and/or mission work. The recipient must be awarded the scholarship prior to the age of 30.This is a renewable scholarship.

Awards a one time payment of $500 to a high school senior who will be accepted into a 2-year or 4-year accredited public or private institution of higher learning and is a Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council member, currently involved and having been involved for a minimum of two years, consecutively.

About Dale "Haynes" and Elaine Woolcott Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for a college-bound student who is a legal resident of Henderson County, North Carolina or Van Buren County, Michigan. The applicant must demonstrate financial need and have a record of community service. Preference will be given to graduates of a Henderson County high school or a graduate of Hartford Public Schools.

To be eligible, organizations must provide an IRS determination letter confirming their 501(c)(3) status. This foundation aims to enhance public understanding and appreciation of constitutional values through various educational mediums.

The JSF Scholarships aim to empower economically disadvantaged students by providing financial assistance for their education. This initiative addresses barriers to education and employment, enabling students to achieve academic success and meaningful careers. The Foundation supports various scholarship programs, partnering with schools and universities, and focusing on areas such as financial need and mentorship. By fostering educational opportunities, the JSF Scholarships contribute significantly to community development and individual empowerment.

The AEG K-14 Education Fund Grant supports geological education across K-14 levels, including elementary, middle, high schools, and community colleges. Established by the AEG Foundation, its purpose is to encourage innovative teaching methods in geology through hands-on activities and professional demonstrations. Grants are available to accredited educators and institutions in the U.S. While AEG membership is encouraged, it is not mandatory. The fund excludes support for political activities and overhead costs.

The Veterans Legacy Grants Program (VLGP) offers funding up to $400,000 to eligible entities for cemetery research related to Veterans’ interred in national, State, or Tribal cemeteries. It aims to create educational materials promoting community engagement and understanding of Veterans' histories. Administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the program provides resources for educational institutions to enhance public knowledge and appreciation of Veterans’ contributions and legacies.

The Fingerprinting Infrastructure Modernization program aims to enhance child welfare systems by modernizing fingerprinting and background check processes. It supports state and tribal agencies in implementing mobile and office-based Live Scan stations to expedite caregiver approvals.
