The Community Foundation of the North State manages many scholarship funds that are awarded to graduating high school seniors as well as students already in an undergraduate program. Some scholarships were started by families or individuals; others by businesses or organizations. All scholarships share one important focus: helping young people reach their educational goals.

Jim Freeman, MD Memorial Scholarship

A long time military man, Dr. Freeman retired as a full colonel from the Army after many years of service active duty and reserves. He was a partner at the Redding Radiological Associates during much of his reserve military career, continuing his craft as an independent contractor at several facilities until his death in 2018.

Much of his career was spent in training other physicians, a task he greatly enjoyed. He was a very strong proponent of education of all kinds and believed all should have access to the education of their choice.

The Jim Freeman, MD Scholarship was established to benefit and support Shasta County students pursuing a degree, certification, or licensing in the medical field focused on direct patient care.

The AVID: Charles H. & Ethel E. Wolfe Scholarship Endowment, managed by Scholarship America, supports high school seniors from Orange County, CA, enrolled in the AVID program. Eligible students must have strong academic records, community involvement, and plan to attend a four-year college. The scholarship awards between $1,500 and $2,500 for undergraduate studies, helping to ease the financial burden of pursuing higher education.

Donor Story - Stahl, Josh Scholarship Fund

The Joshua Stahl Scholarship Fund was established in December 1999 by Michael Yoder. Mr. Yoder started this fund as a tribute to Josh Stahl, a friend of his son, Phillip. Joshua Stahl was a student at East Noble High School who died from a tragic car accident in 1999, but his love for running and his life is still remembered with the Josh Stahl Memorial Scholarship. Phillip Yoder dedicated his track season to his fallen friend and won the 1999 State Track Meet in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:06.

Donor Story – Robinson, John E. and Joan E. Scholarship Fund

Ever since John E. (Jack) and Joan E. Robinson established a scholarship fund with the community foundation in 1997 in memory of their deceased son, William, they have been building it the way some resourceful birds incorporate bits of just about anything into their nests.

The proceeds of catered dinners have gone into the fund, as have earnings from tutoring done by Joan, a retired teacher. The Robinsons have given many donations to the fund as memorials or honorariums and had others do the same, with honorariums in recognition of such things as birthdays and dedicated service to church.

In 2001 the Robinsons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and asked that any gifts be to the scholarship fund. Several dozen donations were received.

Jack, a retired law enforcement officer (now deceased), and Joan have also talked up the fund at every opportunity and taken advantage of matches made available by the foundation and through the Lilly Endowment, Inc.

Several scholarships are made available each year.

The nccPA Health Foundation offers the Oral Health - Research Integration Grant to support PAs in integrating oral health into their curriculum or clinical practice. The BJS FY 2026 Criminal History Record Assessment and Research Program (CHRARP) aims to enhance the Bureau of Justice Statistics' ability to analyze recidivism and criminal history data. This program will support the standardization of criminal records across jurisdictions, enabling accurate statistical analyses. By refining existing data coding systems and addressing data quality issues, the CHRARP will improve research on offenders' patterns and careers, ultimately contributing to effective criminal justice policies.

The Shannon Revel Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Monroe County, supports high school seniors in Monroe County pursuing a degree in environmental engineering. This initiative aims to empower the next generation of engineers dedicated to addressing environmental challenges, fostering a sustainable future. With a commitment to inclusivity and community development, this scholarship reflects the foundation's mission of making a difference through philanthropy and education.

The AVID: Beatrice Levin Scholarship Fund, managed by Scholarship America, supports high school seniors in Orange County, CA, who have participated in the AVID program for three years. This scholarship is for students who demonstrate community commitment, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and show financial need. One common application is used for all AVID scholarships, with awards granted for undergraduate studies only. This program encourages continued education at accredited four-year institutions.

Sophia Joe Scholarship Fund

Sophia Joe graduated from Capital High School in 2023 and the University of San Diego in 2026 with a degree in Marketing and a minor in International Business. During high school, she was a four-year member of the Dance Team and served as Treasurer and Vice President of the National Honor Society, completing more than 100 hours of community service. She also worked her final two years of high school at local businesses in downtown Olympia. Throughout her academic career, Sophia earned recognition on the President’s List at South Puget Sound Community College and received the Donald R. Knauss Trustee Merit Scholarship at the University of San Diego.

Sophia’s passion for travel and global learning helped shape her vision for this scholarship. While studying abroad, she worked alongside students from diverse backgrounds, deepening her appreciation for the importance of access to opportunity. As a member of a family that has been part of the Thurston County community for more than 20 years, Sophia created this fund to support local students who work hard, demonstrate leadership, and aspire to make a positive impact.

The Sophia Joe Scholarship Fund encourages graduating seniors from Thurston County who are pursuing studies in business or a related field to develop their vision for leadership and positive change, both within their community and beyond.

Applicants will be evaluated on their impact, leadership, and vision, as demonstrated by:

• Community service involvement or a commitment to helping others.
• Leadership or responsibilities outside of school, including work, volunteering, or caring for family members.
• Thoughtfulness and vision, as demonstrated by a supplemental essay responding to the question: “What community project or initiative do you think would make the biggest positive impact in Thurston County, and why?”

The Improving Shared Decision Making in Hemophilia Visiting Professorship Program, sponsored by Pfizer and HTRS, aims to enhance educational resources for organizations with limited access to hemophilia expertise. This initiative invites clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to host a distinguished Visiting Professor who will address unmet educational needs in shared decision making and emerging therapies. Grants of up to $7,500 will support local program costs, with a focus on enhancing care for patients with hemostatic disorders.

The AVID: Dad's House Scholarship, administered by Scholarship America, supports high school seniors in Orange County who have participated in the AVID program for at least three years. With an estimated award of $3,000 for undergraduate studies, applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a GPA of 2.5. The scholarship encourages community commitment and aims to assist those planning to enroll full-time at accredited four-year institutions.

The USA Football Grant Program offers funding for youth organizations, middle schools, and girls flag football programs to improve operational standards and enhance athlete experiences. Spring Grants are available to help teams acquire necessary equipment and reduce barriers to play, while Fall Grants assist in future planning and increasing participation. Applications for Spring Grants are accepted until March 17, 2025, supporting the mission of #FootballForAll.

The Darlene Hooley Scholarship for Oregon Veterans supports military veterans who served in the post-9/11 conflict, prioritizing those in the Oregon National Guard and Reservists. This scholarship is designed for students enrolling in higher education institutions across the United States, providing financial assistance to those who have bravely served their country.

The Jean Estes Epstein Charitable Foundation Scholarship supports public school students from Hawaii in their pursuit of higher education on the mainland U.S. Established by Jean Estes Epstein in 2007, the scholarship aims to enhance educational experiences by exposing students to diverse environments. Eligible candidates must be Hawaii residents, graduating from public high schools with a minimum GPA of 3.7, and demonstrate financial need while being full-time college freshmen.

Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston has launched a Special Three-Year Funding Initiative aimed at enhancing social services for fishermen, their families, and low-income elders in Massachusetts' coastal communities. Grants up to $50,000 per year will be awarded to 501(c)(3) organizations to support innovative program approaches. The initiative prioritizes programs addressing the direct impacts of changes in the fishing industry and aims to prevent homelessness, ensuring vulnerable populations receive the necessary support.

Grant Program Purpose & Details

The City of Boston is offering a grant to recruit and offer work experience opportunities to immigrant youth, ensuring that their program involvement is engaging, meaningful, and a building block for their professional development and personal success. Organizations will provide leadership development and professional skills attainment in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner, offering access to programs that are essential to their economic and social inclusion. In collaboration with nonprofit organizations across the City, we seek to support program models that offer immigrant youth the 21st-century skills to succeed when they enter the workforce as well as early exposure to various career paths.

The Immigrant Youth Advancement (IYA) Program pairs diverse students with immigrant-serving non-profits across the city of Boston to provide professional, hands-on experience, vital life skills, for their future development as community leaders. With a focus on inclusivity, the program caters to youth ages 14-24, with summer participants committing 20 hours weekly for six weeks. The IYA program ensures equal opportunities for personal and professional growth for youth, regardless of immigration status. 

Award Amount per Grant per Organization:

Amount Available per Youth Served:

• Up to and not to exceed $2,400.00 per youth ($1,800 for payments, based on federal minimum wage, and $600 for programmatic costs). In addition, organizations will be eligible to receive 5% for any indirect/administrative expenses (accounting, payment processing, and fiscal sponsorship fees).

Programmatic costs include staff time devoted to the program, materials/supplies, and related costs for program activities.

In partnership with our generous donors, we award millions of dollars annually to help students achieve their educational goals. Through our online system, students complete one application and are matched with available scholarships, based on their eligibility requirements.

100 Club of Arizona Scholarship

The 100 Club of Arizona scholarship program provides financial education assistance to immediate family members-children, spouses, or stepchildren (cousins, aunts/uncles or other extended family are not eligible) of sworn or certified public safety or fire employees of any local, municipal, county, state, federal or tribal agency in Arizona.

The Jim Blount Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Marshall County Community Foundation, aims to support graduates from Bremen, John Glenn, LaVille, and Plymouth High Schools in Indiana. This fund provides annual scholarships to assist students pursuing education in vocational and technical fields. By fostering local talent, the foundation connects community members with opportunities to make a meaningful impact in their careers and lives.

The Women’s Shelters Grant, provided by the AKC Humane Fund, offers financial assistance to domestic abuse shelters that accommodate pets. This grant aims to empower shelters to break the cycle of domestic violence by allowing women to keep their beloved pets during difficult times. By supporting organizations that facilitate this, the AKC Humane Fund fosters a community where both women and animals can find safety and solace together.

The Whitehall Foundation's Grants-in-Aid program supports early-career researchers in the life sciences, specifically in neurobiology. Aimed at assistant professors facing funding challenges, grants do not exceed $30,000 for one year. Applications are evaluated based on scientific merit and innovation. Eligibility requires independence as an investigator and Principal Investigator status. This program fosters research in areas underrepresented by federal funding, highlighting the Foundation's commitment to advancing biological research and supporting young scientists.

The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation (CWF) offers grants to nonprofit organizations dedicated to enhancing the welfare of children across the United States. Established in 1954, CWF prioritizes projects that address the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of youth. Grants are available annually from May 1st to July 15th, supporting initiatives that demonstrate a broad geographical impact. This foundation seeks to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children facing various challenges.

Spencer Educational Foundation Inc

The Spencer Educational Foundation was founded by the Rims Atlanta Chapter in 1979. To this day, Spencer remains the premier organization funding the education of tomorrow's risk management and insurance leaders.

The Spencer Educational Foundation: awards merit-based scholarships and grants to university students pursuing careers in risk management, insurance, and/or actuarial science; provides grants that create experiential learning opportunities both on and off campus; funds the development of risk management and insurance curricula in colleges and universities; supports Risk Managers by creating internship opportunities within the risk management function of their companies; and operates across the United States and Canada. 

Spencer Educational Foundation: Risk Manager on Campus Grants

Spencer’s Risk Manager on Campus (RMOC) Program has been praised by both universities and risk managers as a rewarding educational experience for students and a chance to give back to the profession. The grant program brings a practicing risk manager to the university to present and engage with students about the Risk Management profession and the Insurance industry. Since 1997, Spencer has awarded over 500 RMOC Grants totaling $1.7 million to universities & colleges across the United States and Canada.

Spencer’s Risk Manager on Campus program offers grants of up to $5,000 to universities and colleges in the United States and Canada to host a practicing Risk Manager on its campus for a 1–3-day residency. The grant award is to be used to:

• Reimburse the risk manager for travel, housing, and incidental expenses incurred from the visit.
• Coordinate class visits, campus-wide lectures, panel discussions, meals, student club/organization meetings, senior administration visits, and/or receptions for students to network with and learn from the visiting risk manager, thereby exposing students to careers in Risk Management and Insurance (including Actuarial Science) and cultivating excitement about the industry.

The OTA Member Full Research Grant, offered by the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, aims to fund clinical, translational, or basic research projects related to musculoskeletal trauma. Grants of up to $40,000 per year for two years are available for clinical research, and $25,000 per year for two years for basic research. Eligible applicants include OTA members in good standing, and research must be conducted in North America. The initiative seeks to enhance the quality of care for injured patients.

We administer a number of scholarships, which range from the traditional academic and athletic awards to corporate and special circumstances offerings. These scholarships are open to all residents of Marshall County, as long as other requirements are met.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide one or more annual scholarships to a student and/or graduating seniors from a high school, home school, or alternative school in Marshall County.

The Breed Promotion Grant Program, offered by the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA), supports AMHA clubs and Morgan-related organizations in promoting the Morgan horse breed. Eligible entities can request funding for various promotional activities. In 2021, AMHA awarded nine grants across the U.S. and Australia, demonstrating their commitment to breed promotion. This grant aims to enhance the visibility and appreciation of Morgans within the equestrian community.
