The Foundation, established in 1990, is an integral component of Amgen's commitment to dramatically improve people's lives and the principal channel for Amgen’s corporate philanthropy.  In addition to its primary focus on science education, the Foundation has committed an additional $180 million to local, regional and international nonprofit organizations that reflect Amgen’s core values and complement the company’s dedication to impacting lives in inspiring and innovative ways.

Each year, the Foundation awards grants to local, regional, and international nonprofit organizations whose programs are replicable, scalable and designed to have a lasting and meaningful effect in Amgen communities. These grants reflect Amgen's dedication to impacting lives in inspiring and innovative ways.

Funding Priorities

Through our focus on science education, we are especially interested in the combined use of educational technology and hands-on science experiences to support learning outcomes. The Foundation prioritizes these areas:

• Teacher quality and professional development in science: We support comprehensive programs that enhance the quality of science teachers entering the classroom, and support teachers with meaningful professional-development opportunities that have a positive impact on student achievement.
• Pivotal science experience: We support programs that provide students and teachers with opportunities for authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences that significantly impact students' excitement about science and scientific careers and make the use of the latest educational technology.

Additionally, the Foundation supports programs that enhance civic engagement and align with our overall mission and priority-giving areas in the communities where Amgen has a presence.

About the Foundation

The Fidelity Foundation is a private, nonoperating foundation committed to building capacity in nonprofit organizations. Foundation grants are designed to encourage the highest standards of management and long-term self-reliance in nonprofit organizations. Taking an investment approach to grantmaking, we fund organizations where we feel we can add lasting, measurable value. We seek to support major initiatives that nonprofits undertake to reach new levels of achievement, and the Foundation’s founding operating principles still guide our decisions and grantmaking today.

Grantmaking Guidelines

As a private, independent, nonprofit entity, the Foundation awards grants only under the direction of its Trustees on the basis of our guidelines, project merits and availability of funds. We use a comprehensive approach to determine whether our collaboration and investment can add value and will measurably improve the applicant’s impact. Our selection criteria focus on the overall organization, the project being proposed and the project’s likelihood of success. Outlined below are the organizational requirements, sector priorities, and geographical boundaries that govern our funding.

Types of Projects

The Foundation seeks to work with organizations on strategic, transformative projects that have the potential to substantially increase the grantee's impact, efficiency, or long-term sustainability. These capacity-building projects fall into three areas:

Capital Investments

These are large-scale projects central to the overall health and sustainability of the applicant, such as new construction, renovations, expansions, and other initiatives that support the organization's strategic vision.

Planning Initiatives

This includes funding for project consultants to develop strategic, business, feasibility, technology, and other types of plans.

Technology Projects

These are high-impact technology initiatives that can substantially increase an organization's efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.

Projects may include the development of front and back-end office systems; performance measurement systems; online functionality; and financial accounting, inventory management, point-of-sale, and other business systems.

Education

The Lynch Foundation believes in the access and opportunity of a quality education for all students.

Health Care

The Lynch Foundation supports innovative programs that promote physical, spiritual and mental wellness.

Religion

The Lynch Foundation supports the religious and educational efforts of the Roman Catholic Church, with a desire to inspire faith and hope in people’s lives.

Culture

The Lynch Foundation believes that engaging in culture and the arts for the beautification and betterment of the community stimulates a powerful force for social change.

How to Apply

The Lynch Foundation has a rolling application process that welcomes any not-for-profit organization to submit a concept paper electronically through our website at any time. The application is an open, multistep grant process and can take up to one year. All proposals should include a concise overview of the organization, relevant program information and describe how the organization shares our mission to create sustainable social change. Once received, The Lynch Foundation will examine the applicant’s merits and inform them of their decision.

Michael & Susan Dell Foundation Grants

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation only accepts unsolicited proposals for specific areas within the education, family economic stability and childhood health sectors in select countries where we work, namely the United States, India and South Africa.

As a guideline, the foundation does not fund more than 25% of a project’s budget or more than 10% of an organization’s total annual operating expenses.

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has always recognized the power of providing grants to partner organizations that we knew were already working hard to improve the lives of urban children living in poverty. By aligning with organizations that are already making a difference, we continue to make an immediate impact on the lives of thousands of children.

Foundation priorities:

We fund social enterprises that directly serve or impact children or youth from urban low-income communities in the areas of education, health, and family economic stability (including livelihoods and financial inclusion). These social enterprises may be structured as for-profit or nonprofit entities.

Partnerships

We collaborate with a range of organizations focused on creating opportunities for children and families living in urban poverty, with a deep emphasis on measuring impact. Our funding advances projects already making an impact in education, health, and family economic stability. Through these enduring and long-standing partnerships, we create lasting change together.

We foster a community of engaged citizens, strengthen social impact organizations, and invest in collaborative solutions – building powerful relationships to tackle our community’s social challenges.

Our Programs

We are a partner-led, venture philanthropy 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports early-stage, BIPOC-led local nonprofits through a combination of unrestricted grants to fund operations and pro bono consulting to tackle projects to accelerate scaling their organizations. Our grantees receive direct support for up to 3 years and remain in our network as alumni. On average, our grantees see ~80% growth in revenue over the course of our 3-year engagement with them, which is 5X the rate of similarly sized nonprofits in Greater Boston.

Unrestricted Grants

We provide unrestricted grants to our grantees for up to 2 years. We allow our grantees to use our grants to support their critical growth needs.

The lack of good, healthy food burdens the U.S. health care system with an estimated $53 billion in avoidable expenses each year, says Feeding America. The pandemic further increased the demand for nutritious food and inflation put affordable healthy food out of reach for many working families. Yet good nutrition is essential for people to stay healthy.

We work with partners to provide the right nutrition to those who need it the most. Incorporating healthy foods into diets can help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer. In addition, a healthy diet can improve mental health, boost energy levels and promote healthy aging.

To solve many of the most pressing challenges facing the world, like climate change and population health, we need diverse perspectives in science and technology. By investing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, we can prepare the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers to drive progress and shape the future. We support programs in the areas of K-8 math, high school STEM enrichment and college success.

Building a strong foundation in STEM subjects is critical for students who aspire to pursue careers in science. STEM education provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to solve complex problems, think critically, and innovate. By developing a strong understanding of STEM fundamentals, students can pursue careers of tremendous impact.

STEM education can also help students develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability, which are essential for success in any career. By investing in STEM education, we can prepare the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers who will drive progress and shape the future. We focus on supporting programs in the areas of K-8 math, high school STEM enrichment and college success.

Cummings $30 Million Grant Program

Cummings Foundation has awarded more than $600 million to date in greater Boston. In 2026, it will grant an additional $30 million. These funds will be shared by 150 local-area nonprofits and will be awarded as multi-year grants, to be paid over either three or 10 years.

Priority Funding Causes

The Cummings $30 Million Grant Program funds a wide variety of local causes related to:

Human services

• housing and food security, anti-poverty, disabilities, employment training, immigrant/refugee assistance, legal assistance, senior citizens, strong families/communities, youth activities/services

Social justice

• equity, anti-hate, opportunity gap remediation, representation

Education

• K-12/college, mentoring/tutoring, out-of-school time, complementary programs

Healthcare

• hospitals/clinics, mental health

The Environment

• environmental education, equitable access to outdoor spaces, recycling/waste reduction, sustainable agriculture and food systems (This program does not currently consider requests for research, land preservation, and large capital projects)

Within Judaism, there are two different but interrelated concepts or moral action and behavior – Tzedakah (sacred practice of charity) and gemilut hasadim (sacred practice of loving kindness). Jewish tradition distinguishes between them in several ways. The essential difference is already evident in the roots of the words: Tzedakah derives fromtzedek (justice, righteousness), and gemilut hasadim derives from hesed (loving kindness, grace, steadfast love.) The Hesed Foundation believes tzedakah to be a core component of social justice. According to the Talmud, the most virtuous form of giving comes through the promotion of self-sufficiency by offering employment and assisting a person in need; in short, the improvement of the human condition.

About the Hesed Foundation

The Hesed Foundation is dedicated to the improvement and enhancement of human life and the strengthening of communities. Hesed seeks to achieve these goals by supporting programs that enhance the lives and welfare of all people, particularly those in underrepresented populations and communities. Specifically we fund programs relating to youth and education, health, and community building. In addition we reserve a percentage of our annual giving for discretionary projects of interest to the board.

Mission: The McCarthy Family Foundation Charity Fund was established in 1956. The trustees have a preference for organizations and programs focusing in the areas of education, food, health and housing & shelter programs.

Requests for general operating and program support will be considered, as will requests for specific program-enabling capital improvements. Grants may be subject to matching obligations and payable over multiple years. On very rare occasions, the trustees will consider needs for emergency grants.

Hemenway & Barnes LLP provides administrative oversight of The Bushrod H. Campbell and Adah F. Hall Charity Fund, which makes grants for programs targeting the needs of elderly, infirm, homeless, as well as for programs addressing issues related to education, social justice and economic opportunity. Grants, except those related to reproductive health, are focused on programs in the Boston area. A foundation administrator from Hemenway & Barnes' philanthropic advisory services provides support to the trustees and manages the grant application and distribution process. The Trustees of the Fund, with responsibility for fiduciary and programmatic oversight are Arthur B. Page and Nancy B. Gardiner from Hemenway & Barnes, as well as serve as their fellow trustee George Beal.

Funding Guidelines

The Fund’s areas of interest include organizations and/or projects supporting:

• Aid to the elderly in Greater Boston
• Education for underserved youth in Greater Boston
• Social services for vulnerable populations with a focus on essential services in Greater Boston
• Reproductive health (in Greater Boston and US-based nonprofit organizations working internationally)

Who We Are

The William and Bertha Schrafft Charitable Trust is committed to the intellectual, personal and artistic growth of underserved youth ages 6-21 primarily through supporting neighborhood-based education programming throughout the City of Boston. In addition, the Trust has a special interest in building effective pathways to economic independence for underserved populations of the City of New Bedford through education, entrepreneurship and economic development. We strive to support efforts that help young people develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in school and lay the foundation for satisfying and productive lives.

Schrafft Charitable Trust Grants

The Schrafft Trust provides Program Grants or General Operating Grants to nonprofit 501(C)3 organizations; incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts which help young people develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in school and beyond.

The Schrafft Charitable Trust prioritizes small to medium-sized, community-based organizations, charter and district schools in Boston and New Bedford that provide effective youth development, academic enrichment and/or arts and culture programming for underserved populations ages 6-21. We look for organizations led by board members and staff who are representative of the community served and who are actively engaged in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

The Trust also funds a small number of organizations in New Bedford that leverage the strengths of the region (e.g. its people, culture, history, agriculture, fishing and seacoast resources) to provide pathways to economic independence for underserved youth or young adult populations.

Purpose:

The Movement Building and Systems Change (MBSC) Grant Program supports nonprofits and community-based organizations that engage in organizing, power building, advocacy and structural change initiatives to transform power and resource distribution systems to advance equitable, vibrant, safe, and thriving communities.

This grant program explicitly seeks to fund organizations engaging in organizing, power building, policy, and advocacy efforts that address the issue areas of educational equity, arts education access and funding, community safety, and criminal justice reform. Because we recognize that these issues may not always be addressed in a siloed fashion, we encourage organizations to seek funding who are working to address them through an intersectional approach or in conjunction with other community-identified goals.   

Goals:

The goal of the MBSC grant program is to partner with organizations that utilize the methods below directly or through a combination of direct activities and partnerships to advance systems change through efforts that involve: 

• Community-driven and asset-based engagement, solution development, and problem solving. 
• Power building through a combination of healing practices, trainings, base and community building activities, including civic and leadership development opportunities. 
• In-depth political, issue, and systems analysis to address the direct issues and underlying historical, racial and systemic inequities. 
• Collective action including public accountability and civic engagement.  
• Unifying and collaborative efforts through coalitions, partnerships and strategic alliances within and across issue areas and sectors.    
• Expanding beyond traditional movement building approaches to include social media, the arts, narrative change work and alternative system development and planning.   
• Measuring progress and implications for impact at the individual, community, cultural, and systems levels with opportunities for routine reflection, redirection, and adaptation as needed to meet the evolving community and political landscape.

Through these integrated movement building approaches, organizational partners will be able to demonstrate the potential or proven ability to influence and foster change at the individual, community, cultural, and systems levels that leads to greater resource allocation and equitable and community-driven policy and systemic reforms in education, arts education, community safety, and criminal justice.

We believe the increased influence on policymaking and systems design will lead to local and state policies that are more just and foster opportunities for local, state, and federal policy influence and long-term opportunities for educational, economic, and social mobility. 

Grant Amounts and Terms

This is a three-year grant. Its annual renewal will be based on activities taken during the previous 12 months, completion of terms in the grant agreement, and availability of funds.

Annual grant amounts per organization can go up to $50,000 per year. 

Mission

The Clipper Ship Foundation was founded in 1979 by David Parmely Weatherhead. The Foundation makes grants to federally tax-qualified nonprofit organizations offering critical services to individuals living in Greater Boston (cities and towns lying on or within Route 128) and the cities of Lawrence and Brockton. The Foundation focuses its grant activities in the areas of housing and shelter, foster care, and opportunity youth.

Clipper Ship Foundation Grant

The Clipper Ship Foundation aims to improve the lives of society’s most vulnerable populations. Towards that end, the Foundation supports nonprofit organizations serving individuals living in Greater Boston (defined as cities and towns on or within Route 128) and the cities of Lawrence and Brockton.

The Foundation’s priority funding areas focus on the following:

Housing and shelter

Target population: Individuals and families experiencing or at risk for homelessness

Examples of target impacts:

• increased availability of, and expanded access to, affordable housing
• reduced displacement of cost-burdened and at-risk households
• increased capacity and enhancement of emergency shelters
• operation of transitional shelters and housing for youth, immigrants & refugees, persons recovering from addictions, survivors of domestic violence, and other affected populations
• provision of independent and/or assisted living housing or hospice care for the elderly poor and terminally ill

Foster care

Target population: Youth entering, currently in, or aging out of foster care

Examples of target impacts:

• The best possible placement of youth in appropriate homes/settings,
• Support for youth in foster care and their foster families, and
• Improved outcomes for youth in and exiting foster care, including higher rates of adoption, better health care, higher rates of educational attainment and increased connection to employment

Opportunity youth

Target population: Youth ages 16-24 who are 

• Out of school and unemployed,
• Enrolled in school, but not showing up regularly and not progressing academically,
• Enrolled in college part-time and either unemployed or marginally employed, or
• Not enrolled in school and only working part-time without benefits.

Examples of target impacts:

• Acquisition of educational/skills credentials as a component of a futures pathway
• Successful transition to adult life for youth with disabilities
• Stabilized housing
• Mental health treatment
• Reduced recidivism
• Substance abuse remediation

Organizations may apply for funding in only one of the three target areas.

Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation

We are a private family foundation awarding more than $12.4 million in grants  to over 278 organizations in Greater Boston and Gateway Cities.

Our Mission

Our mission is to effect permanent positive change in the lives of individuals and families across Greater Boston, especially in economically disadvantaged communities.

We invest in organizations that improve human health, raise educational attainment, increase economic security, and meet community needs.

We believe in engaged, multigenerational family philanthropy as a means to have greater impact and to honor our family’s philanthropic legacy.

Small Capital Grants

Our Small Capital Grants program provides $25,000 to $100,000 grants for one-time capital expenses that strengthen a nonprofit’s ability to serve its clients and achieve its mission.

This support is particularly valuable because nonprofits can find it difficult to make these investments through their operating budgets.

Background

In 1942, Godfrey Lowell Cabot created a trust that eventually became known as the Cabot Family Charitable Trust.  His intention was to establish an instrument of giving for his descendants and continue to promote the good works he started with his wife, Maria Moors Cabot.

The Trust makes grant awards twice a year to nonprofit organizations in the city of Boston and contiguous communities, as well as to organizations in which Cabot family members maintain philanthropic interest. Awards are put to work in the areas of arts and culture, education and youth development, environment and conservation, health and human services, and for civic and public benefit. Within these fields, as appropriate, the trustees prefer programs mainly serving youth and young adults, with a special interest in programs focused on insuring the healthy growth and development of infants and young children, as a foundation for their future success.

The Cabot Family Charitable Trust will consider grant applications for general support, support for specific programs and activities and for capital campaigns. While most grant awards are for one year, the trustees may award multi-year funding for capital campaigns and in limited circumstances, for a period of up to three years where a longer-term commitment can be shown to accelerate positive outcomes.

About the Motorola Solutions Foundation

At Motorola Solutions, we are good citizens by design. Our work makes a difference in the critical moments that shape lives, businesses and the world, but our contributions don’t end there. The Motorola Solutions Foundation acts as the charitable and philanthropic arm of Motorola Solutions and focuses on giving back to the community through strategic grants, employee volunteerism and other community investment initiatives. Technology & Engineering Education

• Engage students in innovative, hands-on technology and engineering activities, such as design, coding and robotics
• Provide vocational skills, scholarships, certifications and workforce placement opportunities in engineering, information technology and data science
• Equip teachers with the skills and training necessary to enhance instruction in technology and engineering
• Prioritize school-aged students ages 8-18, college/university students and young adults

Awareness. Education. Prevention.  These are three key tenets of Bayer Fund’s investments in health and wellness.  With a focus on cancer and cardiovascular disease, we provide resources to organizations dedicated to educating and/or providing services to patients, caregivers and at-risk populations.

Health & Wellness Grants

Programs that Bayer Fund will support include those that focus on patients and their families needing assistance with issues to managing cardiovascular disease and cancer. This includes education, disease awareness, and supportive services for these diseases. In areas related to cardiovascular disease, priority (though not exclusivity) will be given to charitable organizations that focus on programs and support for the African American community due to the high incidence rate of disease in this population.

Giving in this category will focus on support services such as education, disease awareness, and general access to care (e.g., housing for families traveling for cancer or heart care).

All funding requests and budgets must be for program activities and expenses that start after funding decisions are made. All programs must be completed within one year of the start date, except in limited situations where longer term programs have been agreed upon. Grant award amounts vary, depending on the size of the community, the type of programming, and the reach of the organization.

Safety Net Grants

The Safety Net Grants program is designed to support social service organizations that respond to essential needs for marginalized communities and vulnerable residents in Greater Boston.

Built upon our now-closed Open Door Grants program, Safety Net Grants provide an opportunity to provide much-needed general operating funds to nonprofits addressing critical, immediate and essential needs for people throughout the region.

Safety Net Grants are $50,000, two-year general operating support grants, paid in two equal annual installments of $25,000.

Essential needs are defined as resources that restore health, wellness, safety and belonging for individuals or families in crisis. They can include, but are not limited to:

• Childcare assistance
• Direct cash assistance
• Disability assistance
• Food security
• Health care access
• Legal support
• Mental health support
• Rental and housing assistance
• Support for survivors of trauma

The organization that included two other local churches of the time − the Methodist Churches of Allston and Brighton and Saint Gabriel Passionist Parish − built the original Charlesview Apartments located in the North Allston neighborhood of Boston in the 1970s to provide quality housing to low- and moderate- income individuals and families. That property was sold allowing Charlesview, Inc. and its partners to redevelop and occupy the new Charlesview Residences in 2013, less than half a mile from it’s original location. We are proud to note that Charlesview Residences includes a thriving community center and has received several prestigious local and national awards for its design and operation.

Our mission:

The Charlesview story is one of community empowerment, interfaith cooperation and collaborative public/private partnerships. Inspired by the shared values of their faiths and their long-term commitment and ability to work together since 1968 to build and sustain affordable housing, the board representing the partnering congregations of Charlesview, Inc. created the Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger and Charlesview Charitable Fund in 2013. Named in memory of a founding Charlesview, Inc. board director, the Fund aims to help the Allston-Brighton community’s efforts to be a thriving neighborhood where opportunities abound, and all residents can reach their potential. The Fund will join with other community efforts to provide additional resources to nonprofits helping low- and moderate-income individuals and families living in Allston-Brighton to pursue their dreams.

Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger and Charlesview Charitable Fund

There are many existing resources and life-enriching relationships in the Allston-Brighton community. The Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger and Charlesview Charitable Fund aims to strengthen, deepen, and grow these resources and relationships and ensure that they benefit low- and moderate-income individuals and families who live in Allston-Brighton. The Fund targets its support in five core areas listed below. The following are examples of projects the Fund has considered but are not limited to.

Challenge Overview

Climate change is an omnipresent issue with the hottest recorded year, continuous extreme weather, and long-term impacts that will be determined by near-term choices. While driven by emissions from energy, industry, and agriculture in a concentrated set of economies, climate change disproportionately impacts the up to 3.6 billion people living in contexts that are highly vulnerable to impacts including extreme heat, flooding, and droughts. The climate crisis requires dramatic action, including rapid technology deployment alongside bold policies, financial commitments from governments, private capital, and philanthropy, and global market shifts.

Technology and innovation have an important role to play in contending with the effects of climate change. Technology exists to replace or mitigate all major areas of current emissions but often has minimal adoption due to high costs, a lack of engagement with communities, and the need for design at scale. Innovation can offer new business models, decreased costs, and approaches to scaling impact alongside or in place of new technologies that can help meet mitigation and adaptation goals at the speed of the crisis.

MIT Solve seeks exceptional solutions that leverage technology to address the causes and impacts of the climate crisis. While we are excited to select and support innovators across any climate area, we have a particular interest in solutions that: 

• Adapt cities to more extreme weather, including through climate-smart buildings, incorporating climate risk in infrastructure planning, and restoring regional ecosystems.
• Enable a low-carbon and nutritious global food system, across large and small-scale producers plus supply chains that reduce food loss.
• Strengthen coastal and marine ecosystems and communities through the broader blue economy, including fisheries, clean energy, and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV).

Special Call: Black & Brown Innovators in the US Program

Black and Latine communities in the US are structurally the most vulnerable to climate-fueled hazards and the least likely to have access to healthy and affordable food. As part of Solve’s ongoing work on US racial equity, we encourage those working to address racial disparities in climate action across US communities to apply for the Challenge and receive additional support through our Black & Brown Innovators in the US Program.

The Community Innovation Prize

The Community Innovation Prize is open to innovative solutions for communities by communities. Challenge Overview

Peace and stability are baseline conditions for economic prosperity and a thriving society, and both are at risk with escalating conflicts and economic shocks. Instability and conflict can severely erode economic prospects, reverse years of development gains, and exacerbate vulnerabilities. Poverty and lack of quality jobs contribute to conflict. With 114 million people forcibly displaced due to war, violence, and climate-related disasters, two billion workers worldwide in informal, precarious jobs, and disruptions from AI and other tech, the stakes are high.

Technology and innovation can be powerful tools to promote peace and prosperity. Social media has increased misinformation and polarization, but when well-designed, it also improved cohesion and civic participation and reduced the odds of violent conflict. Similarly, while technology can lead to more precarity, it can also facilitate more inclusive financial systems, new job opportunities, and more resilience. Ethically designing and implementing technology is a key component of building and maintaining more peaceful communities and inclusive economies. 

MIT Solve seeks exceptional solutions leveraging technology to increase peace and prosperity. Our focus centers on solutions that: 

• Promote and sustain peace by increasing community dialogue, civic participation, reconciliation, and justice efforts; strengthening cyber security, and monitoring or preventing violence, misinformation, and polarization.
• Foster financial and digital inclusion by supporting access to credit, digital identity tools, and insurance while securing privacy and personal data.
• Generate new economic opportunities and buffer against economic shocks for workers, including good job creation, workforce development, and inclusive and attainable asset ownership.

Systemic inequities and institutional failures contribute to Black and Brown families in the US owning just 24 cents for every $1 of white family wealth. Philanthropy can support innovative solutions, scale-proven strategies, support nature-based climate solutions, strengthen grassroots efforts, and more.

Our grants help nonprofits that work to empower families and individuals who are struggling to thrive amid challenging situations. To that end, our grant-making priorities focus on organizations and programs in Greater Boston, Greater Puget Sound, and select counties of Washington State (defined below) to provide advanced security and resilience for people and communities. We seek to accomplish this through our three strategic goals by:

• Creating a safe and secure place
• Providing access to workforce and educational opportunity

Education RFP

The goal of the Liberty Mutual Foundation Education Initiative is to improve the educational achievement of underserved youth. Programs and services must expand educational opportunities for children and youth using vetted solutions developed with input from experienced staff, instructors, and educators. Furthermore, the Education Initiative will support educational programs at all grade levels that build on prior academic success. Programs and services must also highlight a path to postsecondary education and/or certified career training. The Liberty Mutual Foundation aims to achieve these goals by funding catalytic nonprofits to:

• Create programs and initiatives to accelerate learning, especially for students of color and students with disabilities who came into the pandemic with the fewest opportunities and have experienced the greatest learning loss. This includes programs serving early education and K-12 aimed at Social and Emotional Learning, mental health issues, individualized tutoring, and efforts to deepen and broaden access to learning.
• Expand academic opportunities for low-income and limited English-proficient (LEP) students by increasing instruction by bi-lingual educators and those with knowledge of cultural values. This funding will promote learning in out-of-school-time and during extended learning programs. It should increase programs that ensure a successful transition to high school, programs that emphasize and highlight the path to college success, and programs that offer early college learning.
• Implement programs that foster school readiness, as well as elementary and middle school programs that seek to prevent the achievement gap by employing results-based curricula and focusing on competency-based learning, literacy and/or numeracy.
• Support programs that create pathways for older youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 to re-engage with the educational system. This includes youth who have abandoned school prior to completion and youth who have attained a high school diploma/GED but have not progressed to higher education or training. 

Hunger to Health Collaboratory (H2HC) 2025 Prizes for Innovation

Hunger to Health Collaboratory (H2HC) and Newman’s Own Foundation are proud to announce the 2025 Prizes for Innovation! 2025 Prizes will focus on innovative, collaborative, systemic work advancing health equity for youth across three categories: 

• Food and Nutrition Policy Work – two $100K grants will be awarded over two years 
• Nutrition Education & School Food – two $25K grants will be awarded
• Indigenous Food Justice for Youth – two $25K grants will be awarded

In addition to funding awards, all Prize winners will be invited to attend the H2HC Fall Summit in Boston, Massachusetts on November 6, 2025.

Housing & Youth Workforce Development RFP

This Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks proposals that address (1) Housing Stability and/or (2) Youth and Young Adult Workforce Development. Building on its efforts to advance security for vulnerable individuals and families, and to expand educational opportunities for vulnerable youth, Liberty Mutual Foundation seeks to:

• Increase housing stability in Boston by supporting direct services and other efforts that strengthen pathways to stable housing and programmatic services across a range of individual circumstances, with access for individuals and families throughout the housing continuum, ranging from homelessness to affordable home ownership.
• Enhance workforce development opportunities for youth and young adults in Boston by preparing disconnected youth for post-secondary and career success.

Housing Stability: Goals and Sample Metrics

Liberty Mutual Foundation seeks to expand access to a full range of housing-related supports and programs that enable low-income families and individuals to find and remain in housing that is safe, affordable, and fits their needs and aspirations. Priority will be given to organizations serving extremely low-income to low-income residents in Boston, as defined below, and to organizations serving youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Extremely low-income to low-income residents are defined by HUD as follows:

• Extremely low-income: Families whose incomes do not exceed the higher of the Federal poverty level or 30% of Area Median Income (AMI)
• Low-income: Families that earn up to 80% of the AMI

Organizations responding to this RFP are asked to propose metrics that they are prepared to measure and report on, and to identify those metrics that most strongly support the proposal’s goals. Examples of metrics for housing stability are provided below. Grant applicants may have metrics that are different from these examples and more closely aligned with proposed goals.

• Increase in number of individuals and families with significant challenges who gain access to one or more housing stability supports or interventions (e.g. wrap-around services, financial empowerment training, asset-building, first-time homebuyer classes, other programming)
• Increase in number of placements/movement along the housing continuum – e.g., temporary shelter to long-term supportive housing placements
• Increase in number of community members served who are able to avoid eviction or displacement and stay in their homes with the help of direct services and supports

Youth and Young Adult Workforce Development: Goals and Sample Metrics

The Liberty Mutual Foundation seeks to prepare disconnected youth and young adults for post-secondary and career success. 

Priorities are to:

• Enhance services and supports for disconnected youth with the greatest needs;
• Build and strengthen capabilities and partnerships among nonprofit organizations that will improve opportunities for targeted youth, and that can be sustained and expanded over time; and
• Leverage government and other investments in youth and young adult workforce development.

Priority populations for Youth and Young Adult Workforce Development grants are:

• Youth and young adults experiencing homelessness
• Youth and young adults with disabilities
• Youth aging out of foster care
• Youth and young adults who are English Language Learners (ELL)
• Low-income youth and young adults

Organizations responding to this RFP are asked to propose metrics that they are prepared to measure and report on, and to identify those metrics that most strongly support the proposal’s goals. Examples of metrics for youth and young adult workforce development strategies are provided below. Grant applicants may have metrics that are different from these examples and more closely aligned with proposed goals.

• Increase in number of young people enrolled in workforce development services
• Among youth experiencing homelessness, youth with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations:
  • Increase in number and percentage who enroll in and complete workforce development programs
  • Increase in number who earn an industry-recognized credential
  • Increase in number and percentage who enroll in and complete post-secondary education programs
  • Increase in number of young people who are employed as percentage of total who complete services
  • Increase in number and percentage of young people who are retained in employment 6 months or longer
  • Development or expansion of proven models of service delivery that combine the best of population-specific services and workforce development services

Grant Types & Funding

Organizations responding to this RFP may submit one application, which may be for a discrete program or as part of a collaboration. The Foundation will consider proposals from nonprofit organizations in the City of Boston (city limits) or those with a compelling case for expanding or launching programs in Boston, and will consider two types of applications:

• Planning – a 12-month grant in the range of $25,000 to $75,000 to support planning activities to build partnerships and capacity to launch, expand, or leverage a longer-term initiative – e.g., to develop the capacity to apply for an implementation grant from government, private or philanthropic sources, including but not limited to the Liberty Mutual Foundation.
• Implementation – a 12-month grant of up to $100,000 for a discrete program or up to $200,000 for a collaborative project designed to achieve measurable outcomes. For collaborations, the applicant should be the lead partner.
