Saginaw Community Foundation

The Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF) is a tax-exempt charitable organization created by and for the people of Saginaw County. Established in 1984 with an initial grant of $50,000 by the Junior League of Saginaw Valley in celebration of its 50th anniversary, SCF enables people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the issues they care about – immediately, or through their wills. SCF is one of 900+ community foundations nationwide classified as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Unlike a private foundation, SCF’s assets come from any number of individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations interested in improving the quality of life in our community. These gifts range in size and purpose, depending upon the interests of individual donors. Some funds are given for specific charitable purposes; others are unrestricted so they may be used to meet the changing needs of our community.

Steven Kyle Kowalewski Memorial Scholarship

The Steven Kyle Kowalewski Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 to honor the memory of a young man with a desire to know Jesus Christ and serve in the ministry. Steven had a servant’s heart and a gentle spirit. Steven was a gifted writer who was quick to listen and slow to speak. He used those qualities to encourage others. It is the hope of the Kowalewski family that this scholarship will help prepare those students with a calling to see lives changed through the good news of Jesus Christ.

The Abelard Foundation, established in 1958, supports progressive social change projects located east of the Mississippi River. With an average grant size of $12,000, they prioritize new initiatives with budgets under $350,000. The foundation emphasizes community organizing, civil rights, and empowering marginalized groups. Eligible applicants must be associated with a nonprofit organization and demonstrate a commitment to local leadership and broader policy connections. The board meets biannually to decide on approximately 15 grants per year, focusing mainly on general support.

Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS)

The MNRS originally began to provide a place for nurses to collaborate, and collaborate they did! Over time, the founding members began to realize the benefits of having an organization dedicated specifically to nursing research. With some careful attention and a lot of hard work, we have grown into the organization it is today. We're a society where scientists, innovators, and drivers of clinical practice across the career trajectory, come together to share ideas and grow our field through innovative research.

The mission of the MNRS is to generate knowledge, translate evidence into practice, and enhance careers through collaborative engagement, implementation, and dissemination among diverse scholars. Our Vision to be the premier society that advances science, fosters leadership, and drives dissemination to improve health equity for all people.

It is an honor to recognize the important contributions of our nursing colleagues. MNRS accepts nominations for our five very prestigious awards to selected members of the Society who have made significant and notable contributions to the field of nursing through research. 

Distinguished Contribution Award

The purpose of the Distinguished Contribution Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a member who has conducted or promoted research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.

The Encova Foundation of West Virginia is dedicated to improving communities by supporting local causes that align with the values of its associates and policyholders. They focus on health, education, and wellness, emphasizing the importance of children's success. Organizations applying for grants must be U.S.-based and verified as charitable. Preference is given to initiatives impacting health and education, especially those involving Encova associates as active participants.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools to implement the PLTW Engineering program for the 2025-2026 academic year and beyond. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the US. Grant recipients will receive funding to cover participation fees and training costs. Total funding amounts to $16,000, distributed over three years. Schools are encouraged to create pathways for students in engineering through this initiative.

Alger Regional Community FoundationThe Alger Regional Community Foundation (ARCF) is a locally based 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Alger County through grants and scholarships.ARCF is a unique institution. It is a permanent, yet flexible, collection of endowment funds contributed by people from all walks of life who want to make a difference in our community.Henry R. Nelson ScholarshipApplicants must be planning to pursue a degree in the area of Industrial Technology, Industrial Arts, or computer technology. Preference will be given to students who will be attending Northern Michigan University.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) offers grants for schools to implement the PLTW Computer Science program from 2025 to 2028. Schools must provide at least one PLTW course in the first year and two courses in the second year. The total grant is $14,000, covering participation fees and training costs. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the U.S., with special encouragement for those serving low-income or minority-majority populations.

Since awarding our first $500 scholarship in 1987, the Saginaw Community Foundation has awarded college scholarships to area students totaling more than $13.7 million, thanks to our generous donors. Each year, over 500 college-bound or career and technical education students benefit from our scholarship awards.

Saginaw County Lawyers’ Auxiliary Scholarship

The Saginaw County Lawyers’ Auxiliary was founded in 1955. Its purpose is to promote the interests of the Saginaw County Bar Association and to encourage law-related activities that contribute to community progress and improvements.

The Saginaw County Lawyers’ Auxiliary Scholarship has been established to benefit a Saginaw County resident pursuing an education in the field of law.

The MI Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) - Floodplain Easement provides crucial financial and technical assistance to local communities for mitigating flood risks and soil erosion post-natural disasters. It empowers landowners to apply for floodplain easements, promoting restoration and protection of floodplains. This program is vital for areas frequently affected by flooding, ensuring that properties are safeguarded and natural resources are managed effectively. Assistance does not require prior disaster declarations, streamlining the recovery process.

The Michigan ACEP: Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) program, administered by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, offers year-round applications to restore and enhance wetlands. This initiative provides financial and technical assistance to landowners and Indian tribes for permanent and temporary easements. The program emphasizes ecological benefits, including improved water quality and habitat conservation, while ensuring compliance with income limitations. Priority is given to projects that enhance wildlife habitats, particularly for migratory birds.

The MI Healthy Forests Reserve Program (HFRP) supports landowners in restoring and protecting forestland through financial assistance and easements. It aims to enhance biodiversity, recover endangered species, and improve carbon storage by offering 10-year restoration agreements and 30-year easements. Eligible landowners must provide proof of ownership and can mitigate regulatory restrictions under the Endangered Species Act by enhancing their land's habitat. This program significantly contributes to sustainable forest management and conservation efforts.

The Michigan ACEP: Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) program, administered by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, aims to protect the agricultural viability of land by preventing nonagricultural uses. It provides financial assistance to eligible partners for purchasing easements that conserve agricultural land, ensuring the long-term sustainability of food supply and environmental quality. Eligible lands include private or Tribal agricultural lands, and NRCS may contribute up to 75% of the easement's fair market value.

The MI Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is designed to enhance existing conservation efforts on working lands in Michigan. It provides tailored plans to improve agriculture, grazing, and wildlife habitats while offering financial assistance for sustainable practices. With no minimum acreage requirement, the program supports various land types, ensuring compliance with USDA regulations. Participants experience increased resilience to market fluctuations, reduced input needs, and improved environmental conditions, making it a vital resource for sustainable agricultural operations.

The Michigan Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) supports farmers and landowners in integrating conservation practices into their operations. Offering technical and financial assistance, this program addresses key natural resource concerns such as soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat. Participants work closely with NRCS to implement sustainable practices that enhance agricultural productivity while promoting environmental stewardship. Applications are accepted year-round, ensuring ongoing support for eligible lands and applicants.

The RMEF Grant Program lies at the core of advancing our mission.

RMEF established the program in 1986 to provide financial and logistical support to projects that align with our priorities and goals. Grant funds raised by RMEF members, volunteers and generous donors from across the country translate into significantly more conservation accomplishment when matched with partner funds. The RMEF Grant Program also aims to build recognition for RMEF’s work, grow engagement, and boost local fundraising efforts.

Governed by clear guidelines and criteria, the RMEF Grant Program seeks to foster meaningful collaborations and long-term impacts in the conservation of natural resources and outdoor traditions. Grant project partners include federal, state, local, and tribal wildlife and land management agencies, private landowners and local stakeholders, sportsmen and women, and conservation organizations, universities, foundations and the outdoor industry. Eligible projects primarily focus on habitat stewardship, land conservation and access, wildlife management, and hunting heritage.

We support organizations recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)3 entity, federal, state, local, or tribal government entities, sportsmen’s organizations, or educational institutions. All applicants must have a Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS. RMEF does not offer grants to individuals.

Land Conservation and Access

RMEF conserves critical big game habitat and migration corridors, while expanding and improving public access, including through land acquisitions and voluntary conservation agreements. RMEF's

2026 priorities include:

• Conserving migratory corridors and connecting landscapes through land conservation efforts
• Creating new or improved public access through access easements and agreements and state-run access programs

The Michigan Sea Grant is offering Graduate Student Research Fellowships for innovative research in natural or social sciences related to the Great Lakes. Open to M.S. or Ph.D. students, these fellowships support projects for one to two years, with funding of up to $60,000. Notably, a 50% non-federal match is required to secure these funds, ensuring collaboration with local agencies or NGOs. Applications are encouraged before the extended deadline of August 15, 2025.

The Michigan Sea Grant Research Program invites proposals for Core Research projects addressing critical research needs for the Great Lakes and its coastal ecosystems from 2026 to 2028. Projects should enhance decision-making and engage Michigan communities, with a budget of up to $220,000 over two years. Full proposals are due by August 15, 2025, and must include at least 50% non-federal matching funds. This initiative aims to foster collaboration among university researchers and relevant agencies.

Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources’ (OER) mission is to lead the state toward a clean, affordable, reliable, and equitable energy future. OER develops policies and programs that respond to the state's evolving energy needs, while advancing environmental sustainability, energy security, and a vibrant clean energy economy. OER is committed to working with public- and private-sector stakeholders to ensure that all Rhode Islanders have access to cost-effective, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Agricultural Energy Grant Program

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) request Rhode Island Agricultural Operations to submit applications seeking funding for energy projects in an effort to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

The following clean energy investments and technologies will be considered eligible for this program, so long as each proposed project meets all program requirements.

• Renewable Energy: Photovoltaics (PV); Small Scale Wind; Biomass; Energy Storage
• Energy Efficiency: Envelope Insulation; LED Lighting; HVAC Systems (especially heat pump technologies); Automatic Temperature Controls; Variable Speed Motors, Drives, & Pumps; Solar Thermal

CSX Charitable Investments provide essential in-kind donations to nonprofit organizations focused on supporting military members and community first responders. Through intermodal transportation services, CSX offers equipment and rail services to help reduce transportation costs for eligible organizations. The program also includes occasional donations of railroad materials and equipment based on availability. CSX prioritizes support for organizations operating within its service areas, promoting community betterment and development.

At the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, we work with donors, grantees, and advisors to address key community issues.

If you’re a high school or homeschooled senior, current college student, early college senior, or adult learner, the Community Foundation for Muskegon County may have a scholarship for you. We manage one of the largest scholarship programs in our area, with over $1 million committed to students in over 500 new and renewed scholarships awarded each year.

J. Dean and Carolyn L. Owen (Carolee) Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of J. Dean Owen, their family and friends in memory of his wife Carolee Owen. Carolee was a dedicated community volunteer and this fund will provide scholarships to graduates of Muskegon County High Schools who are planning on attending a college or university within the state of Michigan. In 2015 J. Dean passed away. The family and friends of J. Dean and Carolee Owen can be assured that hundreds of young people, for years to come, will benefit from this fund established in her memory.

Morley Travel Scholarship

Morley Travel established the Morley Travel Scholarship as a way to assist minority students who have been actively involved in their community and school –recognizing of the importance of education and the difference it can have in one’s life.

Morley Travel has been serving its customers for more than 40 years, working directly with major air, rail, bus and cruise lines, rental car companies, hotels and tour companies.

The Ernest B. Isaacsen Scholarship Endowment, established by the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, provides financial assistance to graduating seniors from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties. Eligible students must plan to attend institutions such as Northwestern Michigan College, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, or Wayne State University and demonstrate financial need. This initiative aims to support local youth in achieving their academic goals.

Battle Creek Kennel Club Scholarship Fund

The Battle Creek Kennel Club Scholarship is awarded to a student currently attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. The recipient must be a resident of the Kennel Club service area. Upon graduation, the recipient must plan to enter a small animal practice.

The Battle Creek Kennel Club is a member of the American Kennel Club. As such, it sponsors two shows and a puppy match each year. It encourages and supports good sportsmanship and responsible dog ownership. Among its other projects are support of the Calhoun County 4-H and State 4-H canine programs.

The Community Facilities Grant Program in Michigan offers essential funding to rural areas for developing community facilities. This program supports public bodies, non-profit organizations, and federally recognized tribes in improving services like healthcare, education, and safety. Eligible areas include communities with populations under 20,000. Grants can cover up to 75% of project costs, depending on community income levels, ensuring that smaller, lower-income communities receive the assistance they need for vital infrastructure improvements.

The Worthington Family Foundation Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to the arts and environmental initiatives benefiting children and young adults. Established in honor of Betty J. O'Leary, this foundation aims to carry on her legacy of intellectual curiosity and community service. Through its annual funding, it seeks to empower organizations that foster creativity and environmental stewardship, ensuring a positive impact on future generations.

The Great Lakes Stewardship Grant aims to enhance awareness and understanding of the Great Lakes' ecology, empowering residents to advocate for sustainable fisheries. This program invites proposals focused on place-based stewardship education, with a notable RFP planned for 2025, alongside another for fishing education. The next RFP for place-based education is set for release in 2027, ensuring ongoing support for community engagement and stewardship initiatives.
