Our Scholarships

Since 1986, the Community Foundation has been the leading source for post-secondary scholarship funding in Frederick County, and in more recent years, has provided significant scholarship support for students in Carroll County.

Our program supports nearly every area of study imaginable, with scholarships funded by generous donors who believe in the value of education. Some donors want to support students aspiring to careers similar to theirs; other donors want to give back to the community that has generously given to them. Others wish to honor the legacies of their loved ones, both living and deceased.

General Scholarships - Frederick County

The Community Foundation of Frederick County administers scholarships primarily for the benefit of Frederick County, Maryland residents who are pursuing post-secondary education, including undergraduate and graduate degrees, or certifications.

Approximately 60% of our available scholarships consider an applicant’s and/or their family’s financial need. To be eligible for financial need-based scholarships through the Community Foundation, you must be eligible to complete the FAFSA or for tuition reduction under the Maryland Dream Act as an undocumented student.

Scholarship awards can be used for tuition, college-sponsored room and board, books, and other fees associated with the upcoming school year.

Mondovi Grange/Wilson Farm Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating seniors or graduates of schools in Lincoln County, Washington, or from that part of Spokane County in the Reardan-Edwall School District, or a direct descendant of someone previously employed by Dale D. Wilson, regardless of their current residence location.

Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply. 

The NSF National Quantum Virtual Laboratory - Quantum Testbeds initiative aims to enhance U.S. leadership in quantum science and technology. By fostering collaboration among researchers, industry partners, and diverse talent, this program seeks to accelerate the development and implementation of quantum technologies. It emphasizes translational research, education, and outreach, ensuring broad engagement across sectors. Proposals must follow established design and implementation deadlines to contribute effectively to the overarching goals of the National Quantum Initiative.

Mark and Kay Burkett Scholarship

Applicants must be American citizens demonstrating financial need and academic achievement, and must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must reside in or have attended high school within the geographic region served by Innovia Foundation.

Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply. 

Each year, Innovia awards over $400,000 in scholarships to deserving students like you who are college-bound or pursuing vocational or technical training. Single scholarship awards range between $500 and $4,000.

Idaho Panhandle Dental Society Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be accepted or enrolled full-time at a post-high school program in the field of dentistry or dental hygiene as a dental hygienist, dental assistant, dental business assistant or dentist. Financial need, academic achievement, and community service are factors for selection.

Previous recipients of this award are eligible to reapply.

The Rebecca Cook Travel Award for Botanical Professionals, established by the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society, supports early career professionals attending the ASB Annual Meeting. This award honors Rebecca Cook's commitment to the botanical community and is intended for Professional Members of SABS demonstrating financial need. Recipients are expected to attend key events during the conference, fostering professional development and networking opportunities within the biology field.

The Creative Economy Fund offers vital support to digital creators and entertainment professionals affected by the LA Wildfires. Catering to individuals in film, music, and performing arts, this fund provides assistance for those who have experienced home loss or damage. Eligible applicants include direct creators, employees of talent agencies, and other creative professionals, ensuring a broad reach within the entertainment community. With a focus on personalized resources and guidance, the fund aims to foster resilience in a challenging industry.

The Robert Macario Ybarra Scholarship honors a passionate athlete and Hawley High School graduate who inspired many. Established by the Community Foundation of Abilene, this scholarship aims to support students from a 19-county area who have participated in varsity sports during their junior and senior years. By alleviating financial burdens, it enables recipients to pursue their educational aspirations, ensuring that no talented athlete has to forego opportunities due to financial constraints.

About Denis Barton ScholarshipApplicant must be a resident of either Transylvania or Henderson County who has graduated from a public, private, parochial or home school program who wishes to pursue an undergraduate degree at a degree granting college or university and who demonstrates the need for financial assistance in order to attend an institution of higher learning. The applicant should have a cumulative GPA equivalent to a "C average" upon graduation. Preference will be given to students from Transylvania County. Financial need will be more strongly considered than grades. An adult student will be considered for this scholarship if he or she can demonstrate reason as to why he or she did not pursue his or her college education immediately after high school. Such reasons would include but are not limited to military service, medical reasons, family obligations, and/or mission work. The recipient must be awarded the scholarship prior to the age of 30.This is a renewable scholarship.

Scholarships

Through the generosity of our donors, we have more than $2 million in scholarships available in 2025 to students from more than 60 high schools. We offer scholarships to high school seniors, college and nontraditional students, and K-12 art and music camps and lessons.

The Academy Martial Arts Leadership Scholarship

Background

The Academy Martial Arts Leadership has been serving families in the Fox Cities since 1995. As the founders/owners, Jeff & Amanda Denu have been passionate about making our community stronger one Black Belt at a time teaching martial arts, while reinforcing respect, self-discipline, integrity, and excellence. Their passion with community involvement and creating a positive learning environment inspires others to be their personal best, and to make a difference every day.

Columbia Bank Kenneth R. Gifford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program

The Columbia Bank Kenneth R. Gifford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program (formerly Columbia Bank) awards ten, $1,000.00 scholarships each year. High school seniors attending school in Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, Glenn, Colusa, Placer, Sacramento counties may apply.

Don & Debbie Bankson Scholarship Endowment Fund

This opportunity allows the donors to fulfill their desire to help Shasta County youth, with excellent academics and a strong community-service background, pursue a college education.

Don and Debbie Bankson are longtime residents of Shasta County with a passion to support the community they love. Through a donation of real property to the Shasta Regional Community Real Estate Foundation, the Banksons seeded the Don and Debbie Scholarship Fund to fulfill their desire to help Shasta County youth, with excellent academics and a strong community-service background, pursue a college education.

About Dirk and Paige Willms Scholarship

This scholarship is to provide financial assistance for students seeking a higher education leading to a degree, certification or licensure at an accredited institution approved by the Foundation. Student must be a child or stepchild of a current employee in good standing who works as operations personnel with one of the following agencies: All municipal police departments located in Henderson County, Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, Hendersonville Fire Department, all Henderson County Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Henderson County Rescue Squad. Students may live within or outside of Henderson County, NC; meet all academic requirements of the attending institution; and be a United States citizen.

This is a renewable scholarship.

The Sheriff John Middleton Memorial Scholarship, established by friends to honor Sheriff John Middleton, offers financial support to employees or dependents of Taylor County law enforcement agencies. The Community Foundation of Abilene administers this scholarship, which awards between $500 and $5,000. Payments are made directly to educational institutions each semester. This scholarship reflects the values of dedication and integrity embodied by Sheriff Middleton, who served the community with distinction.

The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi manages 314 donor-established funds and has disbursed over $48 million to support more than 1,000 charitable organizations and activities recommended by its donors, as well as charitable programs established by the foundation. Established in 2002 with a generous grant from the Maddox Foundation, the Community Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 charitable organization. The Foundation serves Bolivar, Coahoma, DeSoto, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica and Yalobusha counties. 

Sr. Cora Lee Middleton Scholarship

Sr. Cora Lee Middleton Scholarship is to assist the recipient in the next step of their education. This scholarship is established in her name to assist high school graduates of Tallahatchie or Coahoma County high schools in their next education step.

Tunica Woman’s Club Betty Jo Dulaney Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a young woman residing in Tunica County who embodies the spirit of volunteerism and exemplifies the core values of the Tunica Woman’s Club—dedication to service, advocacy for women, children, and families, commitment to global change, and the empowerment of women.

Wesley W. Williamson Memorial Scholarship

Dedicated in memory of a beloved friend, actor, director, teacher, and passionate supporter of the performing arts and Kudzu Playhouse. The award recognizes a student who understands the importance of providing a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment where individuals can explore their artistic interests, and who has actively demonstrated a commitment to enriching and participating in programs that provide them.

About Francis H. and Margery T. Escott Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student in need of financial support who is pursuing an education beyond high school. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in math or business administration.

This is a renewable scholarship.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is offering grants to schools across the US for the implementation of the PLTW Gateway program in the 2025-2026 academic year. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools, especially those serving low-income and minority populations. The grant covers participation fees and training costs, with a total award of $9,100, distributed over three years. Schools are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to enhance their STEM education offerings.

The scholarship recipient should be a student who plans to attend and has been accepted to attend a four-year college. The student should demonstrate scholastic ability (to include a student gifted in the arts), financial need, character, leadership ability, participation in extracurricular activities and demonstrated ability to complete a college education (in order for the scholarship to be renewed, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.0). Other things being equal, preference should be given to scholastic ability.

This is a renewable scholarship.

Pediatric Fellow Research Projects RFA

The Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine is pleased to announce the availability of grants to support research projects conducted by pediatric clinical fellows in accredited fellowship programs within the sections of the Department of Pediatrics.

Fellow research projects can request funding up to $10,000. Research projects must be feasibly completed within the fellowship period. It is anticipated that five to seven awards will be made.

About Grace B. Etheredge Scholarship for BRCC Students

To support a (Blue Ridge Community College) BRCC student who is planning to attend a four-year college or university. The scholarship recipient should be a student who plans to attend and has been accepted to attend a four-year college. The student should demonstrate scholastic ability (to include a student gifted in the arts), financial need, character, leadership ability, participation in extracurricular activities and demonstrated ability to complete a college education (in order for the scholarship to be renewed, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.0). Other things being equal, preference should be given to scholastic ability.

This scholarship is renewable for 2 years only.

This scholarship supports a working mother who is a custodial parent and currently enrolled in college.

EZ Start Scholarship

This award is designed to ease some of the financial pressures of college life, giving students the freedom to focus on their goals. Whether it’s tuition, textbooks, housing, or supplies, this scholarship is here to help.

The Coupling, Energetics, and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions (CEDAR) program, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to enhance our understanding of atmospheric behaviors from the middle atmosphere to the exosphere. It supports research into coupling, energetics, and dynamics, particularly how lower atmospheric perturbations and solar inputs affect the upper atmosphere. The program encourages innovative approaches, including AI and machine learning, to advance observational and theoretical studies in this critical area of atmospheric science.

The NIOSH Small Research Grant Program (R03) aims to enhance the understanding of occupational disease risks and develop strategies for risk reduction. This grant supports research projects that require limited resources, including pilot studies and data analysis, to effectively translate scientific findings into practice. Applicants are urged to articulate the health burdens addressed and the anticipated impacts of their research on workplace safety and health, thereby contributing to the reduction of work-related illnesses and injuries.

The BJA FY 2026 Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Program aims to enhance the safety of federal judges and their families by preventing the disclosure of sensitive information. This funding opportunity supports state and local governments, including tribal entities, in implementing protective measures. The program emphasizes collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies to ensure justice is administered without fear of personal reprisal. Grants can only be used for the designated purpose of safeguarding federal judges as outlined in the statute.
