Best Youth Sports Grants in North Carolina

Arbor Rising Grant, established in 2010, is a NYC-based nonprofit providing unrestricted multi-year funding and capacity-building support to nonprofits focused on alleviating poverty. The grant process occurs every three years, with the next round in 2025 being invitation-only. Eligible organizations must demonstrate high potential and effective leadership, typically operating on a modest budget. Arbor Rising prioritizes applicants from the NYC metro area while expanding to cover the lower 48 US states.

The NC Biotechnology Center Fund Event and Meeting Grant provides vital financial support for events and meetings that enhance networking and information sharing within North Carolina's life sciences community. The grants include up to $3,000 for Biotechnology Event Sponsorships and up to $10,000 for Biotechnology Meeting Grants, catering to both local and international gatherings. This initiative aims to foster innovation and collaboration among researchers and companies, ultimately driving growth in the biotechnology sector.

The Kassel Smit Make A Difference Scholarship, established by the Triangle Community Foundation, is designed to honor the legacy of Kassel Smit by recognizing graduating students from Cary High School who embody creativity, curiosity, and compassion. This non-renewable scholarship offers financial support for various educational expenses at accredited institutions, with no GPA or residency requirements, allowing deserving students to pursue their academic goals without barriers.

The Paul and Elizabeth Younts Trust Grant is dedicated to supporting qualified 501(c)(3) organizations that provide essential health services. Established under the Last Will and Testament of Paul R. Younts, a notable figure in North Carolina's history, this trust aims to make a positive impact in the community. Applications are accepted year-round, with a focus on health-related initiatives, ensuring that organizations meeting the eligibility criteria can seek funding to further their mission.

For 30 years, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation has served as a partner in philanthropy to credit unions, with a mission to empower and inspire credit unions in the Carolinas through collaborative opportunities to enrich our communities. A great example of this collaborative philanthropy is our scholarship program. 

More than 20 credit unions in North Carolina and South Carolina have active managed funds at the Foundation. The generosity of these credit unions helps hundreds of high school seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate students receive scholarship funds each year.

As a member of any of the following credit unions, you may apply for a scholarship. 

Revity Federal Credit Union Scholarship Fund

Revity FCU awards two $5,000 scholarships every year to two outstanding high school seniors to help them achieve their college education.

All applications and related information will be reviewed by the Scholarship Review Committee appointed by the Board. 

Additionally, applying for the Revity FCU Scholarship above will also apply you for the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholarship. The CCUF Scholarship is open to anyone seeking higher education in North Carolina or South Carolina.

The Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving: Thriving Communities Grant Program supports initiatives that promote sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience across a 22-state network. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, the program aims to foster economic development and ensure equal access to basic necessities. Eligible organizations include tax-exempt nonprofits, government entities, and public schools, emphasizing diversity and inclusion in their community-focused efforts.

The State Grants for the Sexual Assault Program, administered by the North Carolina Council for Women & Youth Involvement, offer vital funding to eligible NC agencies dedicated to combating domestic violence and sexual assault. These grants are supported by various state and federal funds, ensuring that organizations can provide crucial services to those affected. The program aims to enhance support systems and foster community resilience against violence, thereby promoting safety and well-being for all.

The Nicholls Family Scholarship, provided by the North Carolina Community Foundation, supports students pursuing a master’s degree within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina State University. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need. This scholarship reflects the Foundation's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and fostering community growth through philanthropy, ensuring diverse students can achieve their academic goals.

HFW Healthcare Career Scholarship Program – High School

Healthcare Foundation of Wilson established the Healthcare Career Scholarship Program to help Wilson, NC public high school students who have an interest in the healthcare profession. Each high school in Wilson County will have the ability to award one student with a $1,000 scholarship. The student must be a graduating senior who will attend any North Carolina community college, college, or university for a major related to a healthcare career.

Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by a committee at each high school with the understanding that any nominee must meet all eligibility criteria. Scholarship recipient information must be submitted by the school’s scholarship committee by the application deadline. 

Eastern Carolina Community Foundation

Eastern Carolina Community Foundation, founded in 2006, is the newest community foundation in South Carolina. We have a permanent endowment to meet the changing needs of the Pee Dee.

Eastern Carolina Community Foundation improves the quality of life in our area of South Carolina through inspired philanthropy and innovative community programs. We serve Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg Counties.

Scholarships

Eastern Carolina Community Foundation partners with donors to administer 12 scholarship funds for the benefit of students in the Pee Dee. All scholarship opportunities are established through specific funds established at ECCF with criteria determined by the donor. 

Christine Sides Fisher Arts and Music Education Scholarship

The Christine Sides Fisher Arts and Music Education Scholarship has been established by Christine and Tim Fisher in support of students who are seeking higher education in the field of performing arts and music education.

The fund provides up to a $10,000 4-year scholarship, awarded as a $2,500 multi-year scholarship to a Florence 1 Schools student or alumni pursuing an education degree in the field of performing arts education.

Students will receive a $2,500 award in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of enrollment as long as proof of passing grades and enrollment in the performing arts department of the South Carolina educational institution or the University of North Carolina at Pembroke are submitted to Eastern Carolina Community Foundation by July 1 of each subsequent year.

The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.

Cultural Sustainability, a collaborative initiative by The Wallace Foundation and U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, aims to support arts organizations rooted in communities of color with annual expenses below $500,000. This program promotes equity and inclusion while studying how these organizations define their well-being. With grants totaling over $1.14 million available, the initiative seeks to empower underrepresented communities and enhance their cultural contributions, ultimately fostering a more inclusive arts landscape.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) is offering funding for projects addressing PFAS contamination in water systems during its Fall 2023 funding round. Eligible applicants include local government units and non-profit water corporations. Funding supports both planning and construction efforts, enabling systems to assess and implement solutions for PFAS issues. This initiative aims to enhance water quality and public health by tackling emerging contaminants effectively.

The Dr. Richard W. Adams Charitable Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations and governmental units in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. It particularly emphasizes education in medical science, scholarships for employees of Davis Regional Medical Center, agriculture, conservation, and wildlife preservation. Grants are administered by Wells Fargo Bank and are available through a year-round application process, focusing on enhancing local medical practice and community well-being.

The NCVMA Public and Private Animal Shelter Fund provides a one-time grant of up to $2500 to support public and private animal shelters in North Carolina. This initiative aims to enhance the health and welfare of animals by assisting shelters in making necessary repairs and ensuring compliance with state inspection guidelines. Eligible applicants include animal shelters defined by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, focusing on upgrades that benefit animal welfare.

The NCVMA High 5 Grant offers $25,000 annually to support organizations that enhance community service and welfare for people and animals in North Carolina. This initiative, led by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, aims to promote educational projects with veterinary involvement. Grants of up to $5,000 each are available to qualified applicants, with a preference for those demonstrating fiscal responsibility and past successes. This program reflects NCVMA's commitment to veterinary excellence and community advocacy.

The Huffman-Cornwell Foundation, established in 1960, supports projects aimed at benefiting the people of Burke County, North Carolina. They prioritize initiatives in arts, education, children, the environment, historic preservation, and cultural and physical development. Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations that align with these interests. The foundation is committed to enhancing community well-being through targeted grant-making.

Scholarships

Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited William L. Arbuckle Memorial Scholarship

Recipients of this award must be accepted to an accredited degree granting college or university within the Southern Appalachian Region. Recipients must be pursuing an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in the field of fisheries, aquaculture, freshwater biology, or other related fields. 

The Larry and Diane Stone Scholarship Endowment, established by the North Carolina Community Foundation, supports Wilkes County high school seniors pursuing higher education within the University of North Carolina system. This initiative aims to empower local students by providing them with essential financial assistance, thereby fostering academic achievement and community development. The Foundation's commitment to philanthropy ensures that resources are allocated effectively to meet the educational needs of students across North Carolina.

The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation supports nonprofits focused on alleviating poverty and promoting social justice in the South. It seeks organizations with strong ties to low-wealth communities, clear strategies for addressing systemic issues, and a long-term vision for change. Eligible applicants should demonstrate accountability, strategic networking, and a commitment to racial equity. The Foundation is open to innovative approaches and encourages submissions from groups aligned with its mission, fostering impactful community partnerships.

The Cody Blue Pilkington Scholarship Fund honors a gifted student dedicated to education and community service. Available to North Carolina residents entering their Freshman or Sophomore year at NC State University pursuing engineering, science, or math, applicants must maintain a 2.8 GPA, be at least 18 years old, and participate in community service. This scholarship supports the legacy of Cody Pilkington, who tragically lost his life while studying engineering.

The ASB Research Award (Professional), offered by the Association of Southeastern Biologists, honors outstanding research by professional members (not students) with a $1000 grant. Applicants must be the primary author of a manuscript published after the last ASB annual meeting and must present their findings at the upcoming annual meeting. The awardee is recognized at the Closing Banquet, emphasizing the importance of attendance. This initiative promotes scientific advancement and networking among biology professionals.

The Sprouting School Gardens Grant, provided by the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, supports school-based gardening and cooking programs to foster healthy eating habits in children. Grants between $5,000 and $10,000 help cover program operations, supplies, and educator stipends. Eligible applicants include schools and 501(c)(3) nonprofits located in areas served by Sprouts Farmers Market, promoting meaningful connections between local teams and school gardening initiatives.

Toby Webb Outstanding Coach Award

Established in 2005/06 through donations from Toby Webb supporters, the Toby Webb Outstanding Coach Award annually recognizes two outstanding coaches.

This award seeks to recognize and honor coaches who have:

• Impacted the lives of student-athletes, and students in general, by encouraging them to succeed, helping to develop self-confidence, ambition, a sound work ethic, and other skills necessary for success in the students' later lives.
• A record of encouraging student-athletes to be well-rounded (i.e. displaying excellence in areas of scholarship, citizenship, music, etc.).
• A reputation amongst their respective peers and the athletic community for fair play, good sportsmanship, and the development of these attributes in their respective student-athletes.

Nominations will be accepted from peers, members of the school community, and members of the media and reviewed by an award selection committee based on criteria set forth by Coach Toby Webb.

The Individual Humanities Fellowships support scholars for two consecutive months of full or part-time work on humanities projects, providing necessary compensation for their research efforts. To be eligible, applicants must commit to at least half-time work, ensuring a continuous performance period. This fellowship encourages diverse outputs, including articles, books, translations, and digital resources, with the North Carolina Humanities Council requesting samples of the completed work.

NCHSAA Foundation: Education-Based Grant Program

The education-based grant program is coordinated through the NCHSAA Foundation, Inc. Only NCHSAA member schools are eligible to apply and must meet the established criteria. Areas of focus include student-centric initiatives/programs, coach/athletic administrator education, health, safety, & wellness initiatives, and small equipment.

The Education-based Grant Program is funded with endowment funds to ultimately support and enhance student-athletes’ physical wellness, psychosocial well-being, mental wellness, and life-skill development. 

Grant funding comes solely from interest earnings on the principal investments. Funds earmarked towards grants will vary year-to-year based on market volatility and interest returns.

The Aging and Adult Services: Emergency Solutions Grant Program aims to support non-profits and local government agencies in providing services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in North Carolina. Funded by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, this program focuses on crisis response and housing solutions to ensure homelessness is rare and brief. Activities include improving emergency shelters and offering essential services to those in need.
