Truett Cathy.

Enterprise Community Partners is a national nonprofit that exists to make a good home possible for the millions of families without one. Home is where life happens, where plans are made, and futures begin. It is the foundation for dignity, health, education, wealth, and community. Yet rents keep going up, paychecks don’t keep pace, and good homes in strong neighborhoods are increasingly out of reach.

National Housing Innovation Grant Competition

Home is foundational. It’s where we plant roots, raise and care for our families, and build community bonds. Yet in every corner of the country, millions of people of all ages and backgrounds need a home they can afford.

Wells Fargo is meeting this moment with a powerful grant opportunity. Together with Enterprise, Wells Fargo has launched the third iteration of the Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge. The 2026 cycle of the housing innovation competition will identify and propel proven, ready-to-scale solutions that transform current practices and increase housing choice and access.

Eligible applicants will compete for five individual grants of $2 million to advance their innovation and drive meaningful, systems-level change in the housing and adjacent industries. Winners will gain access to mentorship and coaching from industry leaders and experts and join a powerful network of Breakthrough Challenge innovators.

Focus Areas

This third cycle of the Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge aims to meet the nation’s affordable housing challenges across all types of communities: Native, rural, suburban, tribal, and urban.

Proposals must encompass one or more of three focus areas:

• Design and Construction
• Finance
• Service Delivery and Programs

Applicants will be asked to show how their proof of concept or pilot program has achieved clear outcomes and success, and provide a clear pathway to expanding the innovation’s reach and impact

Location

Priority scoring will be given to applications from entities that are based in – or whose innovations are designed for – one or more of these 28 states, plus D.C.:

Affordability

Innovations must serve residents at these income levels:

• Rental: 80% AMI or below
• Homeownership: 120% AMI or below
• Workforce housing: 120% AMI or below

The Grow, Invest, Gather (GIG) Fund Grant provides flexible financial support ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 for arts and culture organizations in the Midwest. This grant aims to enhance the capacity of these organizations, fund artist engagements, and promote community building. Eligible applicants include 501c3 non-profits and tribal organizations with annual expenses under $1 million. Priority is given to new applicants, and organizations must demonstrate matching funds on a 1:1 basis.

The NDC Professional Development Grants offer reimbursement funding for North Dakota nonprofit art organizations, educational institutions, and individual artists. This program supports participation in arts-related learning activities, including workshops and conferences, aimed at enhancing artistic and business skills. With limited funding available, early application submission is encouraged. Applications for FY26 will close on May 31, 2026. This initiative promotes artistic growth and development within the state.

The Tom and Frances Leach Foundation is dedicated to fostering healthy, thriving communities by awarding grants to nonprofit organizations. Their focus areas include education, health, human services, and arts & humanities, particularly in the Bismarck-Mandan and Western North Dakota regions. The foundation aims to support initiatives that promote educational opportunities, enhance healthcare access, improve quality of life, and preserve artistic endeavors, ensuring transformative impacts on local populations.

The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation, established in 2013, aims to inspire local nonprofits to address critical community needs across Barnes, Griggs, and Ransom Counties. By providing Community Grants, the foundation supports projects focused on Basic Human Needs, Education, Arts, Community Building, and more. It encourages collaborative efforts and realistic planning to maximize impact, ensuring that the spirit of giving thrives and benefits the Sheyenne River Valley Community.

The BCBSND Health Innovation Grants support innovative projects aimed at improving health outcomes in North Dakota. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, municipal entities, or school systems. Projects may focus on expanding access to fresh foods, behavioral health services, or recovery education programs. The grants are not intended for existing programs or operational costs, and restrictions apply to funding for employee positions and capital campaigns. Successful proposals should demonstrate replicable models for community health improvement.

The Cultural Heritage Grant Program, funded by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, supports local museums and nonprofits with grants for projects like capital improvements, collections, and education. With $400,000 allocated for 2023-2025, priority is given to organizations with a strategic plan or that have completed the North Dakota Museum Assessment. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $50,000, requiring a dollar-for-dollar match in funding.

The Alex Stern Family Foundation Grant provides funding to nonprofits in the Fargo-Moorhead area, focusing on arts, education, social welfare, youth recreation, civic projects, and health issues. Established by Alex Stern, a notable community figure, the foundation aims to support initiatives that enhance the local quality of life. Organizations seeking assistance should confirm their eligibility with the Program Manager before applying, ensuring alignment with the foundation's mission.

The Bayer Fund Health & Wellness Grant Program aims to support organizations that provide education and resources for patients and caregivers facing cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Grants focus on assisting communities, particularly the African American population, in managing these health issues. Funding covers educational services, disease awareness, and access to care, with all activities to commence post-funding decisions. Eligible organizations must hold a 501(c)(3) status and operate within 55 miles of Bayer sites.

The NWND Fund for Girls, established by the Minot Area Community Foundation, aims to empower young women in Northwest North Dakota. This grant supports programs that foster leadership, life skills, and strong values among girls. Eligible applicants include nonprofits and schools serving specific counties, ensuring that the next generation of capable young women is nurtured and supported in their growth and development.

The Arts Midwest GIG Fund offers grants ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 to support creative projects and educational events across the Midwest. This funding is available for nonprofit organizations with budgets of $1 million or less, focusing on the arts. Eligible applicants include arts organizations and tribal entities located in specific states. The fund prioritizes those who have not received a grant in the last two years, ensuring diverse cultural engagement and access.

The GIG Fund, managed by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, provides grants ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 for nonprofit organizations to support public arts projects in Midwestern communities. This initiative aims to enhance access to arts for underserved audiences, including rural and economically disadvantaged groups. Eligible activities include performances and art festivals, with a focus on engaging professional artists. The funding period extends from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, and requires a 1:1 match.

The NRA Foundation offers grants in North Dakota aimed at promoting firearms safety, education, and the shooting sports. Eligible organizations must be recognized under IRS 501(c)(3) or be government entities. Grant requests should align with the Foundation's mission to educate individuals about firearms and support research for improved safety techniques. Ineligible applicants include labor groups, private businesses, and individuals. The initiative seeks to foster community engagement through charitable activities.
