Daniel R. Miller (Fretts) Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Daniel R. Miller (Fretts) Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance for vocational and higher educational opportunities for Scottdale Borough/East Huntingdon Twp. youth. The fund was endowed by Daniel R. (Bob) Miller’s daughter Karen to honor the memory of her father and the Miller & Fretts families of the Scottdale Area. Bob Miller, for whom this scholarship is named, was born and raised in Scottdale. He believed that the core values instilled in him by his immediate Miller and Fretts relatives in the Scottdale area were a contributing factor to his later successful business career and other lifetime experiences.

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide scholarship assistance to a graduating senior from Southmoreland High School who wishes to pursue a career in a traditional trade or modern equivalent (engineering, architecture, design etc.).

Award Type: Single Year Award. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply.

David R. Miller and Sara G. Miller Scholarship Fund

The David R. Miller and Sara G. Miller Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for first year college students from Western Pennsylvania pursuing courses of study in engineering or manufacturing, or related trades.

Dorothy & Richard Barr Westmoreland County High School Scholarship Fund

The Dorothy and Richard Barr Scholarship Fund was created at The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County to provide scholarship support to Westmoreland County High School students who have demonstrated community leadership and strong academic performance. The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above. The applicant must also show community leadership in the form of volunteer activities inside and outside of school.

Dr. Matthew R. Hadley Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Matthew R. Hadley Scholarship Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships awarded to one or more graduating seniors from McKeesport Area, Clairton City, Steel Valley, South Allegheny or East Allegheny High Schools.

Award Type: Single-Year Award

The Marcia L. Wetherbee Scholarship, established by The Columbus Foundation, supports graduating high school seniors from central Ohio who plan to pursue higher education. With a minimum award of $1,000, this scholarship honors Marcia Wetherbee, a passionate community advocate and social worker. Eligible candidates must have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.8 and demonstrate commitment to their education. This scholarship aims to empower the next generation of leaders in the community.

The Marian and Wayne Sinsel Scholarship, established by Marian Sinsel to honor her late husband Wayne, provides financial support to hearing impaired residents of Appalachian Ohio or Fairfield County. This scholarship aims to assist candidates who are 22 years or younger and plan to pursue education at a post-secondary institution in the U.S. with a minimum award of $1,000, ensuring it does not displace existing state or federal funding.

The Robert L. and Pauline H. Minton Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by the children of Pauline H. Minton, honors their parents' legacy as dedicated Battelle employees and single parents. This scholarship aims to support children of full-time Battelle staff who are pursuing education at public or nonprofit colleges in the U.S. With an award amount of $1,000, it reflects a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for deserving students in central Ohio.

Jean Griswold Foundation 

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.  

Summer Scholarship Program

The Jean Griswold Foundation has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to exceptional Caregivers nationwide since 2022. 

Emerging U.S.-based fiction film editors seeking intensive professional development and mentorship can apply for the Sally Menke Editing Fellowship, which includes work at the Sundance Directors Lab and industry networking. Oneida County, Idaho nonprofits or fiscally sponsored projects supporting such editors may be eligible to connect candidates with this Sundance Institute opportunity.

Students pursuing higher education who are graduating seniors or graduates of Columbus City Schools and have studied Latin can receive scholarship support for U.S. colleges or universities, including those serving Oneida County, Idaho. The Columbus Foundation’s Lucile Cornetet Scholarship Fund awards more than US $500 based on financial need, academic achievement, and character.

Underserved college students from the greater Columbus community can receive scholarship support of more than US $500 for full-time study at accredited public or nonprofit U.S. colleges and universities. Grants from The Columbus Foundation help students who meet GPA and residency requirements, including those whose nonprofits or schools serve learners from Oneida County, Idaho, pursuing higher education.

Graduating high school seniors from Fort Hayes or East High School who live on the east side of Columbus and are pursuing higher education in the U.S. can receive scholarship support, with awards starting at more than US $500. The Columbus Foundation’s Gideon Development scholarship may benefit Idaho nonprofits assisting eligible students from this community.

Current public school teachers pursuing graduate study can apply for The Columbus Foundation’s Franklin County Retired Teachers Association Peggy Grate Memorial Scholarship Fund; awards US $1,000 for master’s-level coursework. Educators in Franklin County, Ohio with at least two years’ experience, including those serving students from areas like Oneida County, Idaho, may be eligible.

Graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education can receive US $1,000 scholarships through the Dr. Gregory I. Brooks Scholarship Fund, honoring a longtime Dublin, Ohio physician. With a mission to support education and college preparation, The Columbus Foundation provides annual awards for students from Dublin City Schools attending U.S. institutions, which may interest Idaho-based education supporters.

Registered nurses pursuing advanced degrees in NLN-accredited U.S. programs can apply for The Columbus Foundation’s Dorothy A. Cornelius Scholarship, with awards of more than US $500. OSUNO members in good standing in Oneida County, Idaho may be eligible if they meet membership and enrollment requirements for this nursing education support.

Graduating high school seniors from central Ohio planning to study communications fields such as journalism, public relations, marketing, or graphic design can receive scholarship support for U.S. colleges. The Columbus Foundation provides up to US $10,000, which may benefit Oneida County, Idaho nonprofits mentoring or serving eligible students in these areas.

Charles Barton Weaver Trust Scholarship Fund

Charles Weaver was a Realtor and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Mr. Weaver directed that this fund be used to provide scholarships for students who held full- or part-time jobs and graduated from Columbus City Schools.

The Carol Strip Whitney Scholarship represents a life of passion, as she has taught gifted children for 45 years. Dr. Carol believes in the abilities of gifted children to make this world a better place. These children will be our leaders, our researchers, our inventors. It is her belief that an investment in their futures can only serve to awaken the important aspects of learning for the world of tomorrow. 

Applicants to the scholarship intend to be among the leaders of the next generation.

Craig Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established by the family of John E. Craig, Jr. and Larry William Craig. Both John and Larry were extremely gifted musicians. John was a noted musician in the central Ohio community, studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston at the time of his death. A well-known musician and businessman, Larry excelled at playing the piano and worked with his father in Craig & Sons Wrecking Company. This scholarship fund will provide support to students who are pursuing careers in musical arts, theatre or drama.

Donald Franklin and Marilyn Good Holdren Scholarship

Marilyn Good Holdren was born in 1938 in Chillicothe, OH. She received her formal education at Huntington High School and Franklin School of Science and Arts. She served as a medical transcriptionist at Chillicothe Hospital for eight years, and spent the remainder of her life dedicated wo her work and friends at Battelle Memorial Institute. In 1963, she met the love of her life, Donald Franklin Holdren, and in 1975, they were married.

The scholarship was founded to support students from Muskingum County, Ohio who plan to pursue an education in engineering, pre-medicine, agriculture, or veterinary science.

Excellence in Medicine Awards

The AMA Foundation’s Excellence in Medicine Awards honor physicians and medical advocates who exemplify the highest values of the profession—volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, and service to underserved populations. Each recipient is recognized at a ceremony during the AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago and receives a $2,500 grant honorarium directed to a nonprofit health organization of their choice. Since 2005, more than 100 honorees have been celebrated through this program, with over $250,000 awarded to strengthen community health and advance equitable care nationwide.

The Shaw Family Trust was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college at Penn State Beaver or Community College of Beaver County.

Award Type: Renewable (up to 4 years. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA.)
