Dr. Rick Bachman Memorial Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

The Dr. Bachman Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates the life of Dr. Richard Wayne Bachman, DVM, a distinguished veterinarian and beloved mentor. Affectionately known as “Dr. B” by colleagues and “Ricky” to friends, his commitment to animal welfare extended beyond his role as Lead Veterinarian at Napa Humane. He was notably involved in their weekend Wellness Clinics, serving the underserved, low-income, Spanish speaking community. Dr. Bachman was also deeply invested in the education of future veterinarians and vet technicians. This fund reflects his dedication to animal health, community service, and the nurturing of upcoming veterinary professionals.

The Dr. Rick Bachman Memorial Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Fund is made possible by Napa Humane and benefits current or former residents of Napa County, Solano County, or Lake County. This scholarship is geared towards veterinary students who are committed to practicing companion animal veterinary medicine and plan to give back to their community after graduation. Recipients must attend an accredited veterinary college or veterinary technology program and will receive funding for up to two years while working to complete their degree.

Students attending a 2-year or 4-year college, university, or vocational school can receive scholarship support for higher or trade education through the Gabriel, Joseph and Lila Mandour Karam Scholarship. The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties manages this donor-advised fund, which may benefit Valley County, Idaho residents pursuing postsecondary studies.

Valley County, Idaho students preparing for higher education can access funding through the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region’s Inspire the Future Scholarship, which supports college or technical training costs. Graduating high school seniors formerly or currently in foster care, with at least a 2.5 GPA and financial need, may receive US $2,000 - US $5,000.

Childhood cancer survivors pursuing college or technical education can apply for the Joyce Bytof Memorial Cancer Survivors Scholarship, which supports higher education costs. Though administered by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region in Wisconsin, students focused on postsecondary goals and demonstrating financial need may find this cancer- and education-related support similar to opportunities available in Valley County, Idaho.

Legal services nonprofits, solo practitioners, and small law firms pursuing impact litigation for social, environmental, economic, or racial justice in Valley County, Idaho can seek recoverable grants supporting out-of-pocket case costs. The Impact Fund awards US $10,000 - US $50,000, typically for class actions or multi-plaintiff cases that advance significant law reform or benefit communities facing systemic oppression.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and tax-exempt religious entities serving Valley County, Idaho can apply for Idaho Women's Charitable Foundation’s IWCF Pool-Fund Grant; awards US $20,000 - US $35,000 for programs and projects. Funding supports areas like basic needs, education, health, environment, cultural arts, and rural community initiatives in southwestern Idaho.

Graduating high school seniors pursuing instrumental music or art majors can access funding through Greater Salina Community Foundation’s Fine Arts Future Development scholarship. Students from the Solomon Valley area, including Mitchell, Cloud, and Jewell Counties, may benefit, and Valley County, Idaho nonprofits working with eligible students could help connect them to this opportunity.

Armstrong County Community Foundation (The Community Foundation Serving the Heart of Western Pennsylvania)

In 1997 Merchants National Bank, an Armstrong County community bank, marked its 100th anniversary. The centennial celebration included a unique expression of gratitude to the community in the form of $100,000 to be used as a seed fund to initiate a community foundation for Armstrong County. The bank challenged the community to keep the principal balance of the endowed funds intact and spend only a portion of the interest earnings to ensure a lasting legacy.

The Armstrong County Community Foundation, a public nonprofit corporation,

• Gives grants, scholarships, and organizational support to address the needs of our community.
• Builds a permanent endowment to help our donors create a legacy through this endowment.
• Promotes informed philanthropy to increase and sustain charitable resources for the region.
• Provides leadership and builds partnerships to identify and solve community issues.

Leo S. Kijowski Memorial Scholarship

Leo S. Kijowski was a lifelong resident of Armstrong County who fought in the Korean War. While on patrol in Korea in October, 1951, a bomb exploded near him and burnt over 55% of his body, 30% of which were 3rd degree burns. Leo spent a total of two years at the Fort Sam Houston Burn Center and had his weight drop to as little as 75 lbs. He then spent two more years at the Aspinwall VA Hospital where he went through painful physical therapy and numerous plastic surgeries. At times during his hospitalization he came close to death.

Leo received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart for his service. Upon returning home, Leo spent much time recuperating in veteran’s hospitals, but he furthered his education by attending St. Vincent’s College, and was involved in citizen efforts to improve Ford City. He joined the Ford City Lion’s Club and became one of its most active and productive leaders. Leo was a Lion for over thirty five years, serving as the Club president and chairman of numerous committees. Not only was he instrumental in activities that raised money for building and maintaining the Ford City Public Library, but he also guided the efforts involving the design and the raising of funds to erect the monument to our nation’s veterans in Ford Park. He was an active promoter of the annual Candlelight Service each Memorial Day, the Meals on Wheels Program, and the Youth Work Referral Service. The Lions presented him with the Achievement Award in 1970, the District Service Award for Lionism in 1981, and the Outstanding Humanitarian Award to Lionism and Community in 1983. Leo was a member of the Ford City Planning and Zoning Commission for six years, he helped to formulate the Comprehensive Master Plan that made possible the renewal of Ford City during its Renaissance and was also involved in the planning and construction of the Ford Park gazebo. In 1995, he was inducted into the Ford City Hall of Fame. 

Leo lived to the age of 91 and found a way to continually selflessly volunteer in the local community in spite of all of his injuries. 

High school seniors and current undergraduate students in Valley County, Idaho may be eligible for the Rapier Education Fund, which provides US $2,000 for tuition, fees, and books. Offered by the San Antonio Area Foundation, this renewable scholarship supports full-time study at accredited two- or four-year colleges, universities, or technical/vocational schools in the U.S.

Dave Smith Scholarship Fund

The Dave Smith Scholarship Fund benefits graduating seniors who attend public high schools in Napa County and Napa Valley College students who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science or music at a community college or four-year college/university. Recipients will receive funding for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Edward W. Solomon Scholarship

The Edward W. Solomon Scholarship is offered by CalRTA Napa Valley and administered by Napa Valley Community Foundation. It is awarded in memory of Dr. Edward W. Solomon. The Solomon Scholarship is given to support current Napa County teachers/educators who are continuing their education. Previous recipients of the scholarship are eligible to reapply.

In addition, applicants must demonstrate the potential for academic success by having been accepted in an upcoming college or university upper division or graduate level education program or course. Community college courses are acceptable only for current teachers who want/need to supplement their credential authorizations, and if the community college course is acceptable to the CTC Credentialing Office.

George & Gwendolyn Goodin Endowment Fund

The George and Gwendolyn Goodin Endowment Fund provides one-year college and university scholarships to Napa County residents who are military veterans, or Napa County residents who are dependents of military veterans who were wounded or died while in active service. The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each scholarship will be determined by the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee.

Lenore Hirsch-Jay Falk Scholarship

The Lenore Hirsch-Jay Falk Scholarship benefits Napa County high school seniors that are graduating, and who have worked hard to overcome academic challenges. Applicants must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college program in general education. Although not a requirement, applications are strongly encouraged from students who have learning disabilities and/or attend a continuation high school in Napa County. Previous recipients of the scholarship completing their first, second, or third year of college are also eligible.

Graduating high school seniors pursuing journalism-related majors, including those from Valley County, Idaho, can apply for the Dayton Daily News Si Burick Scholarship and Internship, awarding up to US $3,000 for college costs. Administered by The Dayton Foundation, this scholarship supports students with strong academics, clear journalism goals, and demonstrated financial need.

Bethany's Butterflies Scholarship Program, managed by the St. Croix Valley Foundation, offers up to $500 for Wisconsin students aged 21 or younger with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). This scholarship supports enhanced learning and recreational experiences in Polk, St. Croix, or Pierce County. Applications are reviewed monthly without a hard deadline, as long as funds are available. This initiative honors the memory of Bethany Mazur, aiming to create lasting impacts through educational opportunities.

Students pursuing tech or trade education who are seeking scholarship support can apply for the Dale A. Nordquist Family Scholarship, awarding US $1,500 for vocational or community college training. With a mission to support education, St. Croix Valley Foundation provides this opportunity, which may benefit Valley County, Idaho students meeting the listed high school criteria.

Students pursuing music in college from Hudson High School or Hudson homeschool programs can receive scholarship support for higher education, with awards up to US $4,000. The Dale & Delores Willi Scholarship from St. Croix Valley Foundation prioritizes Valley County, Idaho music education students who demonstrate financial need, strong academic performance, and clear passion for music.

Graduating seniors pursuing any field in the arts can receive the Frank Chaney Memorial Scholarship for US $5,000, open to students from Hudson or Stillwater area high schools. St. Croix Valley Foundation supports arts-focused college-bound students, which may interest Valley County, Idaho nonprofits working with similar youth audiences.

Students pursuing trade or vocational degrees who live in St. Croix County, WI, and have financial need can apply for the Kevin & Rita Vance Family Scholarship, awarding US $2,000 for required training or education. Valley County, Idaho nonprofits helping eligible students access trade careers may share this opportunity with their communities.

Veterans of the U.S. military pursuing post-secondary education can receive a one-time US $1,000 scholarship for cost of attendance through the Guyon Scholarship for Veterans. Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region administers this award, which may benefit veterans connected to nonprofits or community programs in Valley County, Idaho.

Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Scholarship

The Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services, Corvallis, Oregon. It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the President/CEO of Samaritan Health Services (now retired), upon the completion of his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina.

High school seniors and college or graduate students pursuing medically related careers in hospital settings can receive scholarship support for health education through the Virginia Welch Scholarship, offered by Samaritan Health Services. Focused on higher education and medical training, this opportunity may benefit those from Valley County, Idaho preparing for healthcare professions.

College students majoring in horticulture, environmental studies, forestry, or related fields can apply for Folsom Garden Club scholarships, awarding US $500 - US $5,000 for tuition, books, and school expenses. Eligible applicants must be California residents with ties to Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado, or Yolo County and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Gribler Loving Trust Nursing Education Scholarship

Each year, the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation awards the Gribler Loving Trust Nursing Education Scholarship to three students who live in Lincoln County, are pursuing a degree in nursing and who intend to practice in the community when they graduate. Up to $3,000 is awarded to each student and students who receive the scholarship are eligible to apply for a second year.

The scholarship is awarded in honor of Bill and Olga Gribler, Newport residents since 1947. Bill taught music, providing entertainment throughout the community, and Olga worked for the phone company and later the Bank of Newport. They established this generous scholarship to help address the ongoing need for quality nurses in the region.

Purpose

The intent of this scholarship is to assist a resident from Lincoln County, Oregon:

• To secure training in order to enter or re-enter the field of nursing.
• Who is pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse.
• Who needs training to improve working skills.
• Who has obligations in addition to those of providing for their education

With a mission to strengthen Idaho communities, Idaho Community Foundation provides Valley County, Idaho nonprofits and public entities with flexible general operating support. Eligible 501(c)(3) charities and governmental entities can request up to US $25,000 for operating costs or programs in areas like arts and culture, education, health, environment, housing stability, and community development.

Valley County, Idaho nonprofits, public educational institutions, and government entities can access funding through the Idaho Community Foundation for charitable projects benefiting the Valley County area, with awards of US $1,000 - US $5,000. Eligible organizations must be located in or serving Valley County, with applications due by September 1 and decisions made annually in October.
