• We believe deeply in the importance of expanding opportunity for young people. We support nonprofit organizations that engage young people furthest from opportunity to achieve their future career goals.

• Supporting diversity and inclusion is important to us. Not only do we support diversity and inclusion within the workplace, but also in the diverse communities we serve. We support nonprofit organizations focused on underrepresented communities primarily focused on: women, LGBTQ, veterans and people of color.

Environmental sustainability

• Alaska Airlines has a proud tradition of innovation in environmental performance. In addition to always looking for ways to improve the efficiency of our operations and reducing the burden we place on the planet; we also aim to support nonprofit organizations who are devoted to environmental sustainability by preserving the communities we love.

About Alaska State Council on the Arts

The Alaska State Council on the Arts funds applications in all areas of the arts: dance, visual arts, literature, music, theater, media arts, and traditional Native arts. The Council also encourages applications that promote and develop the cultural heritage of Alaskans and the creation of new works by Alaskan artists.

Youth Cultural Heritage Grant Program

The Youth Cultural Heritage Program (YCH), made possible by funding from Rasmuson Foundation and administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts, is designed to support organizations and groups that deliver cultural heritage programming to children and youth in Alaska. As an initiative of the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the Youth Cultural Heritage program places emphasis on teaching and learning in and through culturally specific art forms, relevant to communities of culture in Alaska. 

YCH Program Goals

The goals of Youth Cultural Heritage funding are as follows:

• Strengthen Alaska children and youth’s cultural knowledge and self-awareness
• Support direct, creative development opportunities for Alaska children and youth to engage with artists and culture bearers
• Engage citizens around cultural heritage
• Bridge culture and communities
• Create greater cross-cultural understanding and empathy

At MPC, our community investment strategy is centered around strengthening communities and helping make people's lives better. We focus on contributions and partnerships with charitable organizations that reflect the priorities of our community stakeholders, align with our core values, amplify our sustainability strategy and enable us to make a positive, measurable impact.

Charitable Contributions and Grants

MPC and our employees provide support to 501(c)(3) non-profit and government-related organizations and agencies in the form of foundation grants, corporate contributions and sponsorships and workplace giving and volunteerism. While we will accept requests from eligible organizations across our marketing area, preference will be given to communities where the company has a significant operational and employee presence.

We strategically focus community investments on three core areas where it can make a positive, measurable impact: workforce development, sustainability and thriving communities.

Communities Investment Priorities

Workforce Development

From engineers to pipefitters, chemists to accountants, IT specialists to welders, MPC’s success relies on our ability to recruit and retain employees with exceptional skills-based experience. Our goal is to invest in workforce initiatives that better prepare individuals for professional success by increasing access to high-quality educational training and career readiness resources inclusive of vocational, technical and skilled trades.

Sustainability

Consistent with our commitment to meet the needs of today while investing in a sustainable future is our support of community programs involving environmental conservation and sustainability. MPC supports environmental government agencies, community groups, trade organizations and professional and industry associations devoted to protecting, conserving and sustaining natural resources. These efforts may include life sciences and breakthrough research, protecting biodiversity, preserving or creating parks and green spaces, improving air and water quality and increasing access to clean water and food.

Thriving Communities 

We are committed to making our communities stronger, safer and thriving places to live, work and play. MPC provides funding for programs that promote the resiliency of our shared communities including helping to address basic needs, supporting youth development programs and creating opportunities for economic vitality. This also includes safety projects and efforts that help communities better prepare for, mitigate the risks of and respond to disasters, hazards and emergenciess

What does this program do?

This program helps eligible communities prepare, or recover from, an emergency that threatens the availability of safe, reliable drinking water.

What kind of event can qualify as an emergency?

• Drought or flood
• Earthquake
• Tornado or hurricane
• Disease outbreak
• Chemical spill, leak or seepage
• Other disasters

How may the funds be used?

• Water transmission line grants up to $150,000 to construct waterline extensions, repair breaks or leaks in existing water distribution lines, and address related maintenance necessary to replenish the water supply
• Water source grants up to $1,000,000 are to construct a water source, intake or treatment facility

Why does USDA Rural Development do this?

This program helps prevent damage or restore households and business' access to clean, reliable drinking water in eligible rural areas and towns following natural disasters. Funding can improve the natural environment and encourage manufacturers and other businesses to locate or expand operations.

What does this program do?

This program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.

How may the funds be used?

Funds may be used to finance the acquisition, construction or improvement of:

• Drinking water sourcing, treatment, storage and distribution
• Sewer collection, transmission, treatment and disposal
• Solid waste collection, disposal and closure
• Storm water collection, transmission and disposal

In some cases, funding may also be available for related activities such as:

• Legal and engineering fees
• Land acquisition, water and land rights, permits and equipment
• Start-up operations and maintenance
• Interest incurred during construction
• Purchase of facilities to improve service or prevent loss of service
• Other costs determined to be necessary for completion of the project

About Alaska State Council on the Arts

The Alaska State Council on the Arts funds applications in all areas of the arts: dance, visual arts, literature, music, theater, media arts, and traditional Native arts. The Council also encourages applications that promote and develop the cultural heritage of Alaskans and the creation of new works by Alaskan artists.

Workshop Grants

Workshop Grants support unique, arts-related activities of limited duration that offer Alaskans the opportunity to participate in an arts activity not regularly available in their community. All areas of the visual, performing, traditional, craft, media, and literary arts, as well as arts administration, are eligible disciplines for this grant category.

Workshops must be held and completed between the first of the month following the award date and June 30 (end of State Fiscal Year).

WESTAF’s TourWest Grant provides flexible funding for presenters/presenting organizations within the WESTAF region to support their regional touring program. WESTAF also encourages the inclusion of community/educational outreach as part of an organization’s presentation of touring artists. 

TourWest is a competitive grant program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts to provide subsidies to arts and community organizations in the 13-state WESTAF region and jurisdictions, including Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa for the presentation of touring performers and literary artists. 

Through TourWest, WESTAF and the National Endowment for the Arts aim to encourage the presentation of performing arts programming to culturally diverse audiences and those that do not typically enjoy ready access to the performing arts. In order to understand local needs and interests, WESTAF advocates working directly with individuals and groups from the communities that your organization seeks to serve. Community engagement and participation are key components of a successful TourWest grant application. 

WESTAF defines regional touring as programming that presents out-of-state touring artists and/or in-state touring artists traveling at least 50 miles to your venue. Presenters/presenting organizations are defined as organizations that present or host guest artists for engagements in their communities. Presenters can include but are not limited to community cultural organizations, community centers, churches, schools/colleges/universities, libraries, museums, film festivals/series, and performing arts centers. Typically, producing organizations or performing arts groups are not considered presenters, and are encouraged to contact WESTAF to discuss eligibility.

TourWest seeks to support the engagement of new audiences as well as collaboration between the presenters, artists, agents, and communities. In addition to working collaboratively with the artist(s) and/or community partners in planning the project, WESTAF encourages presenters to take advantage of opportunities such as block booking, presenter networks, and booking conferences to reduce costs and make artistic opportunities available to a broader audience. Partnerships and collaborative efforts between presenters are considered in the panel’s evaluation of an application and project.

Program Overview

Creative West’s TourWest grant program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, provides funding to presenters and presenting organizations to bring touring performers and literary artists to communities throughout the Western region.

Regional touring is defined as:

Programming that brings out-of-state touring artists to your venue, or In-state artists traveling at least 50 miles from their home base TourWest focuses on expanding access to the performing arts, especially in underserved communities.

To support this goal:

• Creative West encourages working closely with local individuals and groups to understand and meet community needs.
• Applicants are urged to include community engagement or educational outreach activities in their projects.
• Collaboration with artists, agents, and community partners is highly encouraged, along with strategies like block booking and using presenter networks to reduce costs and maximize impact.

Our Current Priorities

For those requesting support for youth programs, the Foundation will continue to focus on rural BIPOC organizations and allowing organizations to use awarded funds for general operating support.

Recognizing the critical role of BIPOC organizations, the Charlotte Martin Foundation continues to make it a priority to partner with organizations doing progressive work specifically in the areas of youth education and climate change, with a special emphasis on serving communities of color. Three years ago, we created a fellowship designed around researching BIPOC led organizations within our 5-state region that align with our priorities. We recognize that private funding is inequitably given to white-led organizations and we want to show our commitment to redistributing resources to non-dominant, BIPOC organizations.

Increasing Opportunities for BIPOC:

Increasing racial equity and diversity for youth ages 6-18.

BIPOC led nonprofit organizations with diverse leadership and staff are the focus of our grant-making. Organizations based in rural communities are also a priority for our foundation.

Programs that create opportunities in areas of education, cultural expression and athletics. Including but not limited to:

• Increase access to and the creation of diverse cultural experiences.
• Improve school-based and out-of-school learning opportunities in areas such as science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) and other areas.
• Increase early college awareness and access to post-secondary education.
• Increase access to sports and diversify sports programs.

Guidelines for Youth Programs

Our program funding for youth ages 6-18 falls into three areas: Athletics, Culture and Education. Grants for youth programs must fall within one of these three program areas.

Youth Athletics

Athletics include a wide range of individual and team sports, with an emphasis on the value of sports for lifelong participation. School-sponsored intramural and after school sports programs have been greatly reduced, and middle-school aged youth have been most affected. After school athletics can be the incentive that gets kids involved in programs that also have educational and cultural components. Demand is increasing for athletics programs and facilities in rural areas and inner cities. More girls are getting involved in sports, requiring additional programs and space. Coaches are key to a positive experience for young people, and good coaching requires training.

Youth Culture

Culture includes art, music, dance, literature, theater, ethnic and regional heritage. Positive experiences in culture are essential in educating the whole person and should be an integral part of the lives of youth. Young people can use cultural experiences as creative resources to build self-esteem, promote personal growth, and preserve traditions. Arts and culture programs in the schools are being reduced or eliminated, and many communities, both urban and rural, have limited access to cultural resources.

Youth Education

All young people should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Education, in and out of school, happens best when youth direct their learning and engage in compelling problem-solving and critical thinking. Educators need support to play a vital role in assisting youth to investigate their passions and explore new interests. Rural schools often have less access to resources and curricula than urban schools. Both public and private schools need support.

General Information

With support from The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and the Bader Philanthropies, Inc., Family Caregiver Alliance is pleased to oversee the annual Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards program.

Award Background

In the recent past, The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation undertook a review of issues facing caregivers of adults with Alzheimer’s disease. In June 2007, the Foundation published an expert panel discussion report, Strengthening Caregiving for Alzheimer’s Disease, which outlined promising practices, research recommendations, and key principles for caregiver support. It is against this backdrop that the Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards program was initiated. The program promotes the reports’ principles—and innovation in the field of Alzheimer’s disease caregiving—by recognizing and rewarding organizations that lead the way in addressing the needs of Alzheimer’s caregivers. In 2018, the 11th year of the program, the Bader Philanthropies, Inc. joined as a funding partner as reflected in the new name — Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards.

Award Details

One award of $20,000 will be given in each of the following three categories:

Creative Expression

Programs or projects that use novel, creative approaches to support persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their family/informal caregivers. Examples include art, music, theater, poetry, multimedia (e.g. film, documentary, radio), or technology used for creative engagement or other types of creative expression.

Increasing Access and Reducing StigmaPrograms or projects that address a gap or chart a new way to deliver services, support, or outreach to family/informal caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias in diverse racial/ethnic, age, religious/spiritual, LGBTQ+, rural/remote, limited income, and other groups of caregivers with unique needs.

Public Policy

Programs or projects that advocate for policy or systems changes for the benefit of persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and/or their family/informal caregivers. These efforts could focus on legislation, executive or administrative changes, media or public awareness campaigns, advocacy campaigns, or any other actions to strengthen public or private recognition and support of family/informal caregivers.

The Alaska Humanities Forum

The Alaska Humanities Forum is a non-profit organization that serves Alaska as one of 56 state and territorial councils supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Our mission

The Alaska Humanities Forum connects Alaskans through stories, ideas, and experiences that inspire understanding and strengthen communities.

Our vision

Our vision is a culturally diverse, economically vibrant, and equitable Alaska where people are engaged, informed, and connected.

Strengthening Communities Grants Program: Stories Grants

There are many stories that make up Alaska – many voices, many cultures, many identities. At the Alaska Humanities Forum, we believe that stories – and in particular stories that reflect a more inclusive narrative of our state – have the power to help bridge difference and spark connection by deepening our understanding of others, ourselves, and our communities. This means that stories are not only central, but critical, to the work of strengthening communities across the state.

This grant seeks to invest in projects that share and give space to stories that need to be told, and especially those stories, voices and experiences that have been underrecognized or excluded from public discourse. By doing so, we hope this grant can contribute to building a deeper, more complex, and more inclusive narrative of Alaska’s past and present.

Stories Grants provide flat $10,000 funding for projects working to build a more inclusive narrative of Alaska’s past and present by amplifying stories that have been underrecognized or excluded from the public discourse.

Stories Grants seek to fund projects that are:

• Timely
  • Projects share stories that need to be told.
• Rooted
  • Projects are responsive to, based in, and shaped by local knowledge and lived experience.
• Collaborative
  • Storytellers, community members, and project partners co-create the project at each stage (this could include designing the project, implementing the project, evaluating the project, determining what happens with the final product, etc.).
  • Where appropriate, we strongly encourage use of grant funds as honoraria to compensate collaborators.
• Accessible
  • The grant project must be made publicly accessible in some way.
• “Sparks”
  • We believe that stories have the power to ignite understanding and connection.
  • We prioritize projects that include a meaningful strategy for reaching audiences and sparking audience engagement.

Examples of projects we fund include:

• Written articles for print or digital distribution;
• Oral histories, podcasts, and other audio projects;
• Documentary-based photography and short video/film projects; and
• Multimedia, web-based, and other digital projects.

We intend to award eight $10,000 grants. This grant is intended to be offered once annually.

As changemakers, we are committed to dramatically increasing philanthropic investment into Indigenous-led organizations and modeling a mindset of abundance. We integrate culture and ceremony into our work by acknowledging and paying respects to our elders and past while taking control of our future. We believe in, invest in and support: Indigenous self-determination, free and liberated thought and expression, Indigenous genius and ingenuity, and sustainable community-based solutions.

Our grantmaking will support and advance these values and the following three core principles and strategies:

Defend

Indigenous Peoples, communities and Nations defend and protect our land, air, water, and natural resources from negative resource extraction and exploitation.

Develop

Indigenous Peoples, communities, and Nations are developed in a regenerative and sustainable manner based on our values and connection to land, culture and identity.

Decolonize

Indigenous ceremonies, cultures, languages, and ways of life are revitalized, recognized and celebrated. We use grantmaking as a temporary tool with the hope that our movements for liberation and justice will end its necessity. We use it less for charitable purposes, but for mutual aide, solidarity with movement builders and in the spirit of intentional reciprocity.\

Community Action Fund 

Modest urgent response grants are provided to frontline organizations, groups and individuals most impacted by local challenges, ensuring that resources and decision-making lies with those who are best equipped to solve pressing issues and address imminent threats. The Community Action Fund is a one-time, short-term grant for direct action initiatives.

What does support look like

CAF supports community organizing and movement building work designed to shift the political and financial systems that negatively impact our communities.  This may include direct action and climate disaster response efforts, comprehensive organizing work; frontline and camp infrastructure, and community-based responses to climate disasters such as flooding, fires, and earthquakes.

Direct expenses may include funding for travel, climate response items, supplies, equipment, consultants, contractual services and staff that support various forms of NVDA (non-violent direct action), i.e., marches, camps, boycotts, prayer vigils and walks that are part of an action, organizing or protest to affect change. Action may also include community-based response to climate events such as flooding, fires and earthquakes.

Community Action Fund Purpose and Intent

We support Indigenous frontline communities, Nations, organizers, actions and movements in their work to DEFEND Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and protect their land, air, water, and natural resources.  

Community Action Fund (CAF) grants support direct actions and organizing efforts that are often urgent and time sensitive. CAF prioritizes frontline, grassroots and community-based efforts that defend Indigenous peoples rights, communities and nations, including responses to climate disasters.

Grant Amount

The average grant award is $15,000 but can range up to $40,000.

Grant Term

Grant terms are a maximum of six months.

The Trust operates much like a private foundation, using its resources to provide leadership in advocacy, planning, implementing, and funding of a Comprehensive Integrated Mental Health Program.

Beneficiaries of the Trust include the following broad groups of Alaskans with:

• mental illness
• developmental disabilities
• chronic alcoholism and other substance related disorders
• Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia
• traumatic brain injuries

The Trust also works in prevention and early intervention services for individuals at risk of becoming beneficiaries. The Trust considers prevention of these conditions, where possible, to be part of its mandate.

Conference Sponsorship

The Trust sponsors conferences, seminars and training partnership grants to organizations that serve Trust beneficiaries for a specific purpose or need that aligns with the Trust’s mission and priorities.

Purpose

Alaska Kidney Foundation is committed to granting funds to organizations that are addressing the causes and treatments of kidney disease in Alaska, and supporting Alaskan residents with, or at risk of kidney disease.  Grants may be awarded to individuals, and for special projects, programs, or general operating support for established organizations.

Goals

This grant is designed to support organizations and projects that further the following goals:               

• Alaskans with kidney disease will have emergency relief for basic human needs.
• Alaskans with kidney disease will have timely kidney transplants and donations for all organs will be increased.
• Alaskans at risk of kidney disease will have early screening.
• Alaskans will be educated on the importance of preventing kidney disease.
• Alaskans with kidney disease will be knowledgeable and empowered health care consumers.

History

The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act was enacted in 1971 to settle aboriginal claims to public lands through the conveyance of 46 million acres of land to Alaska Native regional and village corporations, and the transfer of one billion dollars from state and federal governments as compensation for remaining claims. Some of the lands promised and conveyed to corporations pursuant to the settlement in ANCSA were contaminated with substances such as arsenic, asbestos, lead, mercury, pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and petroleum products. These contaminants pose health risks and other concerns to Alaska Natives and communities, some in quantities above state and federal clean-up levels which negatively impact subsistence resources— hampering cultural, social, and economic activities.

Program Purpose

Congress appropriated funding for EPA to establish the Contaminated ANCSA Lands Assistance Program to assist Tribal entities in Alaska with addressing contamination on lands conveyed pursuant to ANCSA. The EPA developed and will maintain an inventory of sites, known as EPA’s Contaminated ANCSA Sites Common Operating Picture, found here. The following entities have been identified as eligible for EPA Contaminated ANCSA Lands Assistance Program funding:

• Federally Recognized Tribes in Alaska
• Alaska Native Regional Corporations
• Alaskan Native Village Corporations
• Intertribal Consortia comprised of Alaskan Tribal Entities
• Alaska Native Nonprofit Associations
• Alaska Native Non-Profit Organizations

Description

The Social Justice Fund supports organizations and projects that seek to eradicate systemic discrimination, increase the power of disenfranchised and under-resourced communities, and promote equal rights and equitable opportunities for all. Priority will be given to organizations that:

• Address root causes in addition to reducing harm and relieving the symptoms of systemic issues.
• Show a commitment to lasting, fundamental mindset shifts in relation to social justice issues.
• Serve communities outside the Anchorage bowl and are located in the communities they serve.

This fund offers unrestricted, general operating support to small/developing organizations (<$500,000 annual budget) with a primary mission of advancing social justice.

Project support is also available to those small/developing organizations advancing social justice through specific projects (but without social justice as a primary part of their mission).

Rasmuson Foundation and The Alaska Community Foundation have partnered to provide support to 2022 camps and youth programming across Alaska. If your organization is eligible for funding as described below, we invite you to submit a grant application through The Alaska Community Foundation.

Purpose

Camps and youth programming opportunities are essential for Alaskan families. Alaska has the highest rate of participation in outdoor recreation in the United States (tied with Montana). Learning skills to be comfortable and competent on the land and in the outdoors can be a rite of passage. Camps provide lifelong experiences for many, but not all. Camps are expensive to operate, and these organizations typically charge a fee that can be a barrier to families. More children can attend camp with additional scholarship support, regardless of their family’s economic background.

The Camp Initiative prioritizes funding for organizations that are addressing the following key issues: 

• Fees/Costs – scholarships/camperships to assist in a family’s ability to pay, or for camps that do not charge a fee, the ability to pay staff and/or increase the number of participants (campers);
• Special expenses – may include traveling activity kits that reach youth who are unable to attend day or resident/overnight camps, increased transportation costs, or changes in program delivery; and
• Training – access to staff professional development and training for counselors.

Operating Support Grants

Annual Operating Support grants are available to eligible organizations to support a portion of ongoing artistic and administrative functions. These may include, but are not limited to, salaries, travel, promotion and production costs of an entire program, or a majority of the organization's yearly activities.

By investing in the stories, ideas, and community-building efforts of Alaskans across the state, the Forum’s Strengthening Communities Grants Program seeks to spark connection and deepen our understanding of others, ourselves, and our communities.

Each year, the Forum awards project grants to nonprofit organizations and state, local, and federally recognized tribal governments across the state.

Grants of $3,000 to organizations for projects working to spark connection and inspire understanding through participatory convenings.

About NAEB

The Native Arts Ecology Building is a powerful tool that enables us to extend our impact beyond individual artists by supporting Native nonprofit organizations, artist collectives, and Native Community Development Financial Institutions (NCDFIs) in their efforts to uplift Native artists within their communities. Our cohort-based grant programs provide nonprofits with resources to identify opportunities for Native artists to thrive and to highlight their value to the broader Native community.

In 2018, we published a report detailing the results of our work with Native Arts Ecology Building Grant grantees, Investing in the Indigenous Arts Ecology. This report builds on the findings from our 2013 market study, "Establishing a Creative Economy: Native Arts as an Economic Engine.

Rooted Pathways

Rooted Pathways is a program that aims to provide resources and stability to an ecosystem of Native arts and cultural organizations through unrestricted general operating support, empowering organizations to define and advance their organizational well-being. If selected, organizations will be required to submit an Interim and Final report. Participation in the Learning Cohort is also a feature of this funding program.The program is designed to help organizations deepen their alignment with their mission and vision, strengthening their roots, fostering growth, and supporting their journey toward becoming thriving, resilient organizations.

This funding program is a part of the Wallace Foundation’s two- to three-year $36 Million Dollar Advancing Well-Being in the Arts Program.

Youth Mental Health Fund - Anchor Grant

Background

Decolonizing Wealth Project is excited to launch a new culturally responsive care fund focused on supporting and expanding mental health care for youth in the United States, prioritizing access for LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color. The fund will redistribute a minimum of $15 million in grants over three years starting this year.

Throughout history, young people have been drivers of social change. They have led efforts from Selma to Standing Rock, inviting us all to imagine a better future. Youth today face a world of compounding challenges with the changing technology and social media, climate crises, income inequality, and deadly extremist violence in the United States and beyond. However, the burden of these challenges is not carried equally. Young people of color and queer youth are often forced to navigate a world that refuses to honor their brilliance and embrace their identities. As a result, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth are more likely to experience depression, anxiety, or even suicide.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders ages 10-24, and the second leading cause of death for young Black or African Americans (CDC, 2023; NAMI, 2023; ACAMH, 2023) and nearly half of all LBGTQ youth considered suicide, and 60% of those who sought mental health support were not able to access it (The Trevor Project, 2022).

One of the most significant barriers to supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth mental health is the lack of access to culturally responsive care. Youth of historically marginalized identities are in dire need of access to mental health providers who actively implement culturally responsive practices and care in affirming spaces that honor their identities. Culture also carries unique protective factors, and centering these strengths will ensure healing for both young people and society. 

The Opportunity

A Community-Aligned Fund that Centers Marginalized Youth

In collaboration with an external advisory committee composed of youth leaders and experts and practitioners in the field of adolescent mental health, DWP is launching the Youth Mental Health Fund (YMHF) – a culturally affirming initiative focused on expanding access to community-based mental health care for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth between the ages of 12-24. In addition to supporting community-based programs and partnerships, YMHF will also fund work to shift narratives around care and programs that offer culturally grounded healing experiences that center the unique needs and strengths of marginalized youth living at the intersections.

The YMHF fund will invest at least $15 million in grants over the next 3 years, for a minimum of $5 million annually. Alongside grantmaking, DWP will invest in capacity-building opportunities for grantee partners and elevate critical issues undergirding the Fund through communications and field-building efforts.

Fund Priorities: Culturally Responsive Care

Decolonizing Wealth Project seeks to nurture healing, belonging, and empowerment for youth. We will prioritize initiatives that are community-led or engage young people directly in decision-making processes and efforts. Examples of meaningful youth leadership may be in staffing, youth steering committees, youth boards, and processes that generate regular feedback from youth. An external, intergenerational Advisory Committee will review every eligible application.

Applications will be accepted across the following three priority areas:

• Community-Based Programs -
  • Increasing access to culturally responsive mental health care by providing services in places where youth live, learn, and play (e.g. in schools, churches, community centers, particularly in rural areas, etc). (Note: in the case of partnerships between community-based organizations and clinics/health care system units, grants will be awarded to the community-based nonprofit).
  • Youth-led organizations that provide programs to improve mental wellbeing outcomes, such as peer support, skill-building, and youth advocacy. These programs should create spaces where youth can connect, share experiences, and learn coping strategies, while advocating for changes in policies and practices that impact their mental well-being.
• Cultural-Based Healing -
  • Innovative culturally relevant delivery models that promote connection to belonging, culture, and improve mental health care. This may include programs that use creative expression such as: language, movement, art, music, dance, and theater as therapeutic tools to explore identity, process trauma, and build resilience.
  • Storytelling projects that amplify communal and personal stories of mental health journeys to foster solidarity and representation.
  • Heritage-based wellness programs that integrate cultural practices, rituals, and spirituality into mental health approaches for young people.
• Awareness and Advocacy Campaigns -
  • Community-based education programs tailored to equip youth, families, providers, and educators with tools to recognize and address mental health challenges.
  • Campaigns that challenge cultural and systemic stigmas around mental health care and identity, and work to expand access to services and support, as well as post-traumatic growth and joy.
  • Support for organizations working towards systemic change in mental health services and care delivery to dismantle inequities in mental health care systems impacting youth; Priority given to programs that train youth as advocates for systemic change in mental health policies and systems.
