Generous donors entrust us to connect them to dynamic students to provide financial resources for their education through scholarships. Our donors establish scholarship funds with criteria they wish to be met by applicants. Our scholarship committee considers the criteria, evaluates the submitted applications, and chooses the best candidates for each scholarship.

Margaret Briggs/Lackawanna College Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to two individuals selected by Lackawanna College who are a graduate of a Lackawanna County High School and demonstrates financial need and past academic performance.

Chesapeake Watershed Investments for Landscape Defense (WILD) Program

The Chesapeake Watershed Investments for Landscape Defense (WILD) Grants Program delivered in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service supports efforts to improve the condition and connectivity of habitats for at risk and federally listed species.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is committed to operating in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Executive Orders. The ability and extent to which NFWF is able to make awards is contingent upon receipt of funds from federal agencies and/or other funding partners. Final funding decisions will be made based on the applications received and the level and timing of funding received by NFWF.

With a commitment of $100 million in charitable giving, the program addresses key community development needs, including affordable housing, job creation, financial education, and disaster relief. Eligible organizations must have IRS 501(c)(3) status or be public agencies, demonstrating capacity to meet community needs. Unsolicited applications are not accepted.

The PA Local Share Account (LSA) – Monroe County Grant, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, allocates 2% of gross terminal revenues from licensed gaming facilities to support community and economic development projects in Monroe County and its neighboring areas. This initiative aims to enhance local well-being and mitigate the impacts of gaming activities, fostering growth and resilience in the region.

Nonprofits, municipalities, counties, and educational institutions in Scranton, Pennsylvania and surrounding eligible counties can apply for Pennsylvania Environmental Council’s Pocono Forests and Waters Mini-Grants, awarding US $2,000 - US $10,000 for conservation, community, and connection projects. The Secular Distribution Grant supports charitable activities aimed at enhancing community well-being, particularly within 100 miles of Coatesville, PA. The Region Grants Open Grant Round: Community Vitality, supported by Land O'Lakes Foundation, aims to enhance the vibrancy of dairy communities in the East and West Regions. With a total investment of $500,000 annually, grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 are available for organizations focused on rural development, education, and community resources. Eligible applicants must have a 501c3 status and serve specific geographic areas, ensuring support reaches those in need.

2026 Medication-Assisted Substance Use Treatment Grant Program 

Overview:

This is a noncompetitive funding announcement open to the 61 counties in Pennsylvania with a county jail. The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) is now accepting applications for funding under the 2026 Medication-Assisted Substance Use Treatment Grant Program. The primary purpose of this funding is to support counties seeking to increase opportunities to provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), in combination with comprehensive substance use disorder treatment, to eligible offenders who meet the clinical criteria for an opioid use disorder or an alcohol use disorder, as determined by a physician, while incarcerated and upon release from a county jail. For purposes of this funding announcement, the term "Medication-Assisted Treatment" means the use of United States Food and Drug Administration-approved medications (buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone/Vivitrol), together with nonmedication treatment, as clinically indicated, to treat substance use disorders, including opioid use disorders and alcohol use disorders. Administration of these medications along with comprehensive substance use disorder treatment will allow newly released participants to focus on immediate reentry needs.

Funded counties will adhere to program activities and requirements as discussed in this funding announcement and work collaboratively with local and state partners to ensure effective program operations and successful project outcomes.

Successful projects will allow county jails to better equip reentrants as they transition to the community.

The Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation has been committed to community support for over 85 years, offering funding and in-kind donations to various organizations. They prioritize 501(c)(3) non-profits that enhance cultural and economic vitality, and provide resources for local events, youth sports, and cultural initiatives. Applications for support are encouraged from organizations that align with their values, emphasizing community improvement and collaboration. The Steamtown Museum Association Fund Grant, managed by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, supports the restoration and preservation of railroad artifacts and related educational projects. With a total of $23,220 available for distribution in 2025, the grant aims to enhance the cultural value of the Steamtown National Historical site. Organizations applying must provide necessary information, including their EIN/Tax ID number, to be considered for funding.

The AllOne Foundation Grant seeks to fund programs in five key impact areas: Behavioral Health, Women & Children, Autism, Opioid Solutions, and Food Security. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entities, serve specific counties in Pennsylvania, and employ at least one paid staff member. The foundation aims to enhance healthcare delivery and address critical issues in the region, fostering innovative solutions to improve community well-being.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation established the Careers in Care Nursing Scholarship in 2021, providing $200,000 to support nursing education in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties. This program aims to enhance the nursing workforce by offering financial assistance to students and healthcare workers pursuing various nursing credentials, with a commitment to practice in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation provides Scranton, Pennsylvania conservation and watershed organizations with funding to conserve and restore habitats, improve water quality, and enhance outdoor recreation in the Delaware River watershed. Eligible projects in Lackawanna County can request US $75,000 - US $1,500,000 for on-the-ground habitat restoration, water management, and related conservation work.
