Best Virgin Islands Grants for Nonprofits

Nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists in the Virgin Islands can receive up to US $5,000 for planning, presentation, professional development, and collaborative projects that show artistic merit. Virgin Islands Council on the Arts provides this support to entities active locally for at least two years, helping emerging arts groups and creatives strengthen community cultural life.

The Mary W. Jackson Undergraduate Scholarship, offered by the AIAA Foundation, provides $10,000 to support students pursuing studies in aerospace sciences. Honoring NASA mathematician Mary W. Jackson, this scholarship aims to enhance access to educational opportunities for underrepresented students. Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 and be enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution. The NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21) supports new scientists establishing independent research careers in areas related to hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, or language. This grant encourages innovative projects such as secondary data analysis, small research initiatives, and technology development, aiming to generate preliminary data for future R01 applications. All applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization.

The 6th Legislature's Bill #2699, Act 1556 established VICA on January 25, 1966. In 1987 the Reorganization Act 5265, Section 405, confirmed the original act established in 1966. This Act established VICA within the Department of Planning and Natural Resources.

VICA's mission is to enrich the cultural life of the Virgin Islands through leadership that preserves, strengthens and makes accessible, excellence in the arts to all Virgin Islanders. The Council consists of a nine member Board of Directors which is appointed by the Governor of the Virgin Islands and confirmed by the Legislature. There are four members from St. Croix, four from St. Thomas and one from St. John.

What We Do

Over the past 50 years the Council has continued to secure federal and local funds to be re-granted Territory-wide. Schools, churches, craft artisans, culture bearers, authors, CD, DVD and film productions, individual visual and performing artists and art organizations (to name a few), have been recipients of VICA funding. The Council also orchestrates opportunities for Virgin Islands artists to participate in exhibitions and festivals; thus far VICA has coordinated events in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe, Ghana, West Africa, New York, Washington, D.C. and Venice, Italy.

Through a competitive grant review process, each year VICA's Board of Directors awards an average of one hundred and fifty grants totaling approximately $400,000.00. In addition, the Council spearheads special projects such as Poetry Out Loud, The Big Read, The Congressional Arts Competition, Audience Development and Artists in Residency Program. These projects affords students to represent the Territory in national events and provide opportunities for the elderly, the disabled and at risk youth to view, enjoy or participate in living theatrical performances, musical concerts, operas, dance and ballet and other art activities that they would not normally be able to attend.

Virgin Islands General Operating Support Grant

Purpose - This category of support is designed to assist with general operating, artistic, technical, performance and administrative costs and is available to non-profit art organizations only.

The AAUW Community Action Grants provide up to $75,000 to support nonprofits and educational institutions that empower girls in grades K–12 to succeed in STEM fields. By fostering hands-on learning, mentorship, and family involvement, these grants aim to build confidence and skills among girls, especially those from underrepresented communities. AAUW believes that immersive STEM environments and relatable role models can inspire lasting interest and help close the gender gap in leadership and careers.

Research institutions and universities conducting human genome and disease studies in the Virgin Islands can apply for funding to integrate ancient DNA with modern genomic data. National Institutes of Health will support projects that use ancient and historical human DNA resources to advance understanding of contemporary human traits, biology, and disease epidemiology.

This grant opportunity from the US Department of Health and Human Services, specifically the National Institutes of Health, aims to examine the effectiveness of family navigation models that divert non-urgent mental health concerns from emergency departments. The initiative seeks to enhance mental health service engagement, provide necessary resources, and support families in overcoming barriers to help-seeking. Key deadlines for applications range from February 2025 to October 2027.

The KidsGardening Youth Garden Grant supports organizations in the U.S. or U.S. Territories that aim to enhance youth gardening programs. With a focus on underserved communities, the grant provides resources to develop or improve garden projects for youth aged 0-18. This initiative not only promotes educational opportunities but also fosters community engagement through gardening. Recipients receive a variety of supplies, including seeds and gardening tools, to help cultivate sustainable gardening practices.

The Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams, funded by the US Dept. of Health & Human Services: National Institutes of Health (NIH), supports integrated teams of researchers tackling ambitious projects that individual efforts cannot achieve. This program promotes collaboration among experts with complementary skills, aiming for significant advancements in their fields. Teams are encouraged to pursue innovative objectives that have the potential to transform research landscapes.

The HEAL Initiative Whole Joint Health Program aims to advance research on the biological mechanisms of joint pain by exploring the interactions of various tissues within the joint. This innovative program will support clinical studies that focus on non-pharmacological interventions to enhance healing and improve quality of life for individuals suffering from chronic joint pain. By fostering a comprehensive understanding of joint health, the initiative aligns with the NIH's broader goals to reduce chronic pain and opioid dependency.

Medical research institutions and universities conducting digestive or liver disease research can apply for National Institutes of Health Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Center support, including projects in the Virgin Islands. Focused on shared core resources, these centers foster collaboration and productivity among investigators working within the NIDDK mission areas.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is seeking applications for a Training Center under the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM). This initiative aims to enhance professional development for librarians, community engagement, and access to health information. By fostering partnerships and disseminating NIH resources, the NNLM will broaden its impact and improve public understanding of health data and information. The NTC will develop innovative training curricula and materials to meet diverse audience needs.

The New Music Creator Fund provides financial support to individual music creators across all genres, helping them advance their creative practice. This initiative covers costs associated with developing new work and collaborative projects. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have three years of professional music experience. The fund aims to empower diverse music creators in the U.S. by facilitating the development of innovative musical ideas and fostering artistic collaboration.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is funding initiatives to enhance the value of scientific datasets through innovative artificial intelligence (AI) methods. This program aims to facilitate interdisciplinary research and unlock new insights by applying AI for feature extraction, metadata generation, and dataset integration. Proposals should ensure data security and promote collaboration with various sectors to advance AI-driven scientific discovery. Purpose

Adoption Growth grants drive lifesaving outcomes by supporting successful, sustainable in-store adoption programs, events, and results in partnership with PetSmart stores.

Funding Support

Funding may be used for costs associated with building or enhancing your organization’s adoption program in partnership with PetSmart stores, including:

• Staff positions supporting in-store adoption programs and events.
• Marketing and advertising for in-store adoption programs.
• Volunteer or foster support, incentives, and recruitment related to in-store adoption events.
• Event supplies, including containment and enrichment materials.
• Shelter software and technology needs.
• Vehicle repairs or transportation to adoption events.
• Innovative in-store adoption ideas and pilot programs.
• Other costs directly associated with facilitating PetSmart adoptions and in-store events.

There are two Cohorts under this funding: Cohort 1-  Accelerating in-store adoptions; and Cohort 2: Capacity Building.

Cohort 2: Capacity Building

Applicants must have completed at least one adoption in a PetSmart store within the last 12 months.

Preference will be given to organizations seeking to build a consistent, sustainable in-store adoption program. Applications should include a clear plan, with examples, for sustaining the program over time.

The Surveillance and Case Control Study of Stillbirth and Birth Defects (SUCCSSBD) aims to enhance the quality of birth defects and stillbirth surveillance in the U.S. By modernizing data collection through electronic case reporting, the initiative seeks to improve data quality and timeliness. The study will focus on identifying risk factors for birth defects and stillbirths, addressing a significant public health issue that affects thousands of pregnancies annually. CDC funding will support three key components in this effort.

The ONR FY27 Young Investigator Program invites cutting-edge research proposals in priority areas that align with the interests of ONR Program Officers. This federal funding opportunity aims to support innovative projects led by early-career researchers, fostering advancements in science and technology relevant to the Navy.
