What funding is available?

The Washington State Department of Commerce is soliciting applications for multifamily rental affordable housing projects seeking capital funding from Washington State’s Housing Trust Fund (HTF), administered by the Multifamily Housing Unit (MHU).

This Notice of Funding Availability and Solicitation (NOFA) is intended for applicants seeking to undertake activities resulting in an increase of affordable housing stock in Washington State, or to preserve existing affordable housing stock through rehabilitation.

MHU intends to award $138,547,977 made available by the Washington State Legislature.

The Washington State Department of Commerce is inviting applications for affordable Homeownership housing projects. This funding opportunity aims to support the creation of affordable housing units, enhancing the housing stock in Washington State. Eligible projects can apply for capital funding from the state Housing Trust Fund, fostering accessibility to homeownership for residents. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address housing needs and promote sustainable communities.

The Balanced Calendar Grant, funded by OSPI's federal ESSER funds, supports public school districts, educational service districts, state-tribal education compact schools, and charter schools. Jack Handford Summer Internship

The Western Region actively supports student members who show promise as new professionals and encourages institutions and students to apply for the Jack Handford Summer Internship offered every other year, i.e. 2026 and 2028. The internship is appropriate for students with majors such as costume studies, material culture, museum studies, fashion history, or similar. The internship is intended to average duration of six weeks or a total of 120 hours. The grant may change depending on the budget; the 2024 winner received $3,000.

The Pacific Branch John Henry Comstock Award honors an exemplary graduate student in entomology within the Pacific Branch. This award aims to foster enthusiasm for entomology at the graduate level and encourage participation in the Pacific Branch and ESA Annual Meetings. The winner will present at the Pacific Branch Meeting and receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the ESA Annual Meeting, a $100 cash prize, and a certificate, covering airfare, hotel, registration, and per diem.

The Coaching Enhancement Grant by the NCAA Division III aims to increase diversity in assistant coaching roles by providing financial support to member institutions. Over two years, selected schools receive $15,000 to cover salaries, requiring a matching contribution. This initiative encourages ethnic minority and gender representation, allowing up to 11 institutions to benefit annually, thus enhancing inclusivity in collegiate sports.

The Workplace Safety for Workers Affected by Climate Change Grant Program aims to enhance health and safety for workers impacted by climate change. This ongoing program focuses on providing essential resources for outdoor workers affected by extreme weather, including heat, flooding, and wildfire smoke. The Strategic Alliance Matching Grant by the NCAA Division III aims to bolster ethnic minority and gender representation in senior athletics administration roles. Notably, the Mazamas also welcome innovative research ideas that may fall outside traditional grant guidelines, promoting a diverse range of scientific inquiry.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife 

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and perpetuating the state’s fish, wildlife, and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.

Headquartered in Olympia, the department maintains six regional offices and manages dozens of wildlife areas and hundreds of water access areas around the state, offering fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, and other recreational opportunities for the residents of Washington.

Wildlife Diversity Grant Program

WDFW’s Wildlife Diversity Grant Program aims to support recovery actions for a suite of Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Grant funding can also be awarded for projects aimed at collecting data and information on species abundance, distribution, and habitat associations, with priority for SGCN whose habitats are under significant threat of incompatible development, land use, or resource management. Coordination with WDFW species leads and alignment with WDFW priorities is critical to the success of grant-funded projects. 

Projects must take place within Washington Biennium 2025-2027 (BN25-27). We strongly encourage prospective applicants to consult WDFW species leads before submitting an application to ensure their proposals are well-informed and aligned with WDFW priorities and plans for specific species.

The Connecting Housing to Infrastructure (CHIP) Grants in Washington State provide approximately $12 million to support affordable housing development. Funding can be used for essential utility improvements, including onsite and offsite water, sewer, and stormwater enhancements. Eligible applicants include cities, counties, and public utility districts that partner with affordable housing projects. With a requirement of at least 25% affordable units, the grants aim to make housing more accessible while ensuring long-term affordability.

The Consolidated Grant Program, supported by Washington's Climate Commitment Act, allocates funds for essential public transportation improvements in rural communities, tribal transportation, and services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. For the 2023-2025 cycle, the program has a budget of $110 million for 151 projects, including $10.9 million for ongoing projects. This initiative aims to enhance mobility while contributing to climate action and public health.
