Monthly reviews of sponsorship requests ensure timely decision-making, emphasizing FNBO's commitment to fostering community development and empowering historically underrepresented populations.

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Kansas provide crucial support to communities facing water emergencies, allowing for the construction and repair of essential water infrastructure. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized tribes. The program aims to ensure safe drinking water access after disasters, promoting recovery and sustainability in rural areas. A few notes about our decision making:

• The earlier you apply for funding, the better. If you have an event in mid-May, and the form isn’t submitted until late April, it makes it very difficult to turn around an approval in time.
• One of the questions on the application form asks for which regions of Kansas will be served by the initiative. For the purpose of this application, please refer to the Economic Development Districts outlined by the Kansas Department of Commerce. Which counties fall into which regions are indicated on this map.
• We will also evaluate submissions based on how well they fit into our strategic framework.

The Kansas Promise Act Scholarship provides financial support for students enrolled in high-demand, high-wage programs at eligible two-year colleges in Kansas. Created to encourage local employment, this last-dollar scholarship covers tuition, fees, and materials after other financial aid. Applicants must be Kansas residents and commit to living and working in the state for two years following graduation. With funding capped at 68 credit hours or $20,000, it aims to facilitate education in crucial fields such as healthcare and technology.

The Kansas National Guard Educational Master's for Enhanced Readiness and Global Excellence (EMERGE) program offers financial support for tuition and fees for up to 15 credit hours per semester for members pursuing advanced degrees at Kansas institutions. Applicants must maintain good standing in the guard and meet GPA requirements. A service obligation follows degree completion, ensuring a commitment to the Kansas National Guard after receiving assistance.

The Kansas State Fair Grand Drive Scholarship Program awards ten $1,000 scholarships annually to youth livestock exhibitors who exemplify excellence, commitment, and integrity. Eligible applicants include graduating seniors and post-secondary students involved in the Grand Drive youth livestock show, with applications due by April 15. This initiative not only supports educational opportunities but also recognizes the dedication of young exhibitors at the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive Gala.

It means that hard work leads to real opportunity, and people have the freedom to make choices about their lives without constantly falling behind.  Kansans have shaped a shared understanding of Upward Mobility through a year-long process of statewide listening, crowdsourcing, data analysis and cross-sector collaboration. Approximately 1,000 Kansans contributed ideas, insights and feedback. This process resulted in the creation of a Blueprint for Upward Mobility—a focused set of strategies to address the key barriers preventing Kansans from getting ahead.KHF is seeking bold, scalable ideas to accelerate the Blueprint. Funded projects will: 

• Advance one of the eleven Blueprint strategies 
• Operate at a regional or statewide level, or clearly serve communities experiencing concentrated economic hardship (*)   
• Launch within one year of receiving funding 
• Catalyze new approaches, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and unlock additional resources. Rather than funding disconnected projects, KHF intends for these grants to contribute to a broader, coordinated movement advancing Upward Mobility across Kansas. 

The Tourism Marketing Grant Program, managed by the Kansas Department of Commerce's Tourism Division, aims to support innovative marketing efforts by Destination Marketing Organizations and tourism businesses in Kansas. This initiative encourages economic growth by enhancing the state's image as a tourist destination, increasing visitation, and improving community quality of life. By leveraging Kansas Tourism's resources, recipients can launch impactful promotional activities that attract more visitors to the region.

The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence: Development Phase (COBRE-D) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in IDeA states, which historically receive low NIH funding. By providing critical support for early-career investigators and essential infrastructure, COBRE-D facilitates a long-term vision for institutions. This initiative not only supplements start-up packages for new hires but also establishes research facilities and improves administrative services, paving the way for less-resourced institutions to transition into the COBRE E/S program.

The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship is a merit-based program offering financial assistance to students pursuing bachelor's or master's degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines. Recipients must agree to teach in Kansas for each year of scholarship support, with eligibility extending for up to ten semesters. Priority is given to upperclassmen and renewals, with funding dependent on state allocation. The average GPA of past recipients is 3.50, and the scholarship amount can reach $6,666 per academic year.

Development Program

The goal of KDOT’s Economic Development Program is to fund transportation improvements that attract new businesses to Kansas and support the growth of existing ones.

To create new jobs and encourage capital investment in Kansas by helping fund transportation improvements to recruit new businesses and encourage growth of existing businesses

The Kansas State Scholarship supports financially needy students in the top 40-50% of Kansas high school graduates. Eligible seniors must complete the FAFSA and the State of Kansas Student Aid Application. Awarded scholars can receive up to $1,000 annually, renewable for up to four years based on financial need. Scholars must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and enroll in at least 12 credit hours per semester to remain eligible for funding.

The Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship aims to foster enrollment in LPN and RN programs. Priority is given to Kansas residents who meet specific eligibility criteria, including being accepted into a nursing program and maintaining full-time enrollment. Award amounts range from $4,000 to $6,250 per school year, depending on the program and sponsorship status. Recipients commit to practicing nursing in Kansas for one year per year of assistance received, ensuring support for the state's healthcare needs.

The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance program provides financial support for tuition and fees to eligible Kansas National Guard members. This program is available for both full-time and part-time students enrolled in accredited institutions across Kansas. To qualify, applicants must maintain good standing and have a high school diploma or GED. Important requirements include having a FAFSA on file and not holding a bachelor's degree. The funding is determined by the number of applicants and available appropriations.

TC Energy’s Build Strong program supports vital organizations in communities near its operations. By providing grants, scholarships, and in-kind support, the program aims to enhance safety, education, environmental protection, and community well-being. Eligible applicants include non-profits and community groups addressing local needs. Ineligible activities include operational expenses and for-profit endeavors. The program prioritizes projects demonstrating measurable community impact, fostering a collaborative relationship between TC Energy and local stakeholders.

The Kansas Healthy Food Initiative (KHFI) aims to enhance access to affordable, healthy food in Kansas through technical assistance and financing. Projects should focus on serving low-resource and underserved areas and be led by experienced operators. Eligible applicants include food distributors, grocery store developers, and local food producers. KHFI provides funding through a mix of loans and grants, with a typical structure of 15% grant and 85% loan financing to support various community projects.

The Kansas Military Service Scholarship offers financial assistance for tuition and fees at public Kansas institutions for residents who have served in military operations since September 11, 2001. Eligible applicants must have received hostile fire pay for at least 90 days, or have been discharged honorably. Students must maintain enrollment in a qualified program and remain in good academic standing. Funding is available for up to four academic years, with specific deadlines for application submissions.

David K. Smoot Innovation Memorial Scholarship for KSU Students

The David K. Smoot Innovation Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of a visionary mechanical engineer and World War II veteran whose work advanced sustainable innovation and agricultural engineering. The scholarship supports students at Kansas State University pursuing majors within the Global Center for Grain and Food Innovation, reflecting Dr. Smoot’s commitment to research-driven problem-solving and forward-thinking solutions. Eligible applicants include high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA planning to attend Kansas State University and current KSU students with at least a 2.5 GPA. Preference is given to students passionate about sustainability, innovation, and real-world impact, particularly those studying engineering, technology, supply chain management, natural resources, environmental sciences, or industrial innovation. The scholarship offers a $5,000 award to support students advancing sustainability through research, creativity, and engineering excellence.

The NIOSH Miner Safety and Health Training Program aims to enhance health and safety training for miners in the Western United States. With mining fatalities significantly higher than the national average, this initiative seeks to address critical training needs by developing effective programs, increasing qualified instructors, and ensuring compliance with existing safety guidelines. By focusing on culturally appropriate training methods and collaborative efforts with other agencies, the program aims to reduce injuries and fatalities in the mining sector.

The Windgate Charitable Trust Grant supports contemporary craft and visual arts in the U.S. It offers funding for fellowships, residencies, educational outreach, and materials for craft programs. The foundation prioritizes strengthening visual arts in colleges and expanding K-12 art-integrated programs, providing opportunities for artists and educators to enhance their skills and foster creativity among students. Organizations with previous funding from Windgate can apply through the grantee portal.
