Sharma Family Scholarship Fund

Criteria

Recipients must be a graduating high school senior from a Tier 1 county in North Carolina as defined by the State of North Carolina, or Wake, Durham, or Chatham counties in North Carolina, plan to attend North Carolina State University and pursue a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math major.

The Cody Blue Pilkington Scholarship Fund honors a gifted student dedicated to education and community service. Available to North Carolina residents entering their Freshman or Sophomore year at NC State University pursuing engineering, science, or math, applicants must maintain a 2.8 GPA, be at least 18 years old, and participate in community service. This scholarship supports the legacy of Cody Pilkington, who tragically lost his life while studying engineering.

The Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) aims to enhance K-12 education in North Carolina by funding hands-on STEM activities for students. With grants up to $60,000 annually for three years, SSEP supports innovative programs that nurture students' interest in science and mathematics. It prioritizes partnerships among nonprofits and encourages projects that engage underrepresented communities. SSEP aims to develop students' skills and inspire future careers in STEM fields, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific inquiry.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

PLTW Engineering - New Program In Partnership With Ardagh Group

Ardagh Group has partnered with PLTW to support education in its local communities where Ardagh employees live and work. This partnership recognizes the critical role education, and access to education, plays in ensuring equal opportunities and in building successful, vibrant communities. It is expected that over the next 10 years, Ardagh sponsored education programs will benefit more than 500,000 PreK-12 students as well as delivering best-in-class teacher training to more than 5,000 teachers across 2,000 schools in Ardagh's U.S. communities.

Program Requirements

The purpose of this grant is to assist the grantee's implementation of the PLTW Engineering program. Grantee must offer the PLTW Engineering program for three academic years. Grantee must offer at least one PLTW Engineering course in the 2027-2028 academic year and must offer one additional course in the 2028-2029 academic year (two different courses in two years). Grantee may implement any PLTW Engineering courses of their choosing. Grantee must complete three years of grant reporting.

The Amgen Foundation, established in 1990, focuses on enhancing science education and strengthening communities. Grants are awarded annually, with a commitment of $180 million to impactful programs. The Judy Moore Memorial Scholarship Endowment supports students in nursing programs in North Carolina, emphasizing Judy's commitment to education and community health. The scholarship prioritizes residents of Macon County and considers financial need. Applications open on December 16, 2025, and close on March 3, 2026. Eligible candidates include undergraduates, graduates, and adult re-entry students attending accredited institutions across the state. This scholarship honors Judy's legacy of compassion and dedication to nursing.

The NC Alpha Delta Kappa Student Achievement Scholarship supports North Carolina high school seniors pursuing education degrees. Eligible applicants should have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5 and SAT scores ranging from 900 to 1050. The selection committee considers academic performance, community service, integrity, and leadership potential. Applications will be accepted from December 16, 2025, to March 3, 2026, providing a valuable opportunity for future educators to advance their studies.

The Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics (PRISM) Award, funded by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, supports North Carolina K-12 educators by providing up to $3,000 for materials and equipment that enhance STEM education. An additional $1,500 can be requested for professional development. Eligible applicants include licensed teachers from public, charter, and magnet schools. This initiative aims to foster engaging, hands-on learning experiences in science and math for students.

The Window of Opportunity Grants, offered by Keep North Carolina Beautiful, aim to support K-12 educational and 501(c)3 organizations in North Carolina. These grants, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, focus on enhancing environmental sustainability through outdoor classroom projects and recycling initiatives. By fostering hands-on learning experiences, the program seeks to promote beautification and sustainability among youth across all 100 counties in the state.

About Trail Grants

The Recreational Trails Program is a $1.5-million federal grant program designed to help states provide and maintain recreational trails for both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail use. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration.

RTP is a reimbursement grant program. Funds must be spent and then reimbursed upon completion of deliverables. Eligible applicants must be a state, federal or local government agencies or qualified nonprofit organization. All applications are reviewed by the North Carolina Trails Committee and recommendations are made to the Secretary of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The Secretary makes the final determination on grant awards. 

RTP Safety and Education Grants

Safety and Education grants may be awarded for trail-related safety and education instructor fees, speaker fees, displays, signage and other uses. Please contact your regional trails specialist for questions about the grant.

The Graduate Diversity Enrichment Program (GDEP), funded by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, aims to enhance diversity in science by providing $5,000 over two years to PhD students enrolled in North Carolina institutions. This initiative supports travel to conferences, research-related expenses, and promotes participation in peer networks. GDEP is designed for second to fifth-year PhD candidates in STEM fields who have demonstrated a commitment to equal access and opportunity in their academic and personal experiences.

The Vulcan Materials Company Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community quality of life through education, environmental stewardship, and employee involvement. Established in 1988, the Foundation supports public charities and government units, prioritizing proposals that improve public education and promote sustainable practices. Special consideration is given to initiatives that engage Vulcan employees and integrate multiple focus areas, ensuring a positive impact in the local communities where Vulcan operates.

The Go Outside (GO) Grants provide North Carolina K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations funding for outdoor educational experiences, including field trips and visiting programs. With grants of up to $2,500, educators can enhance outdoor learning through activities involving aquariums, zoos, and STEM organizations. While applications are currently open, funding is contingent upon state funding availability, and applicants are advised to plan for dates no earlier than July 2025.

The Go Outside (GO) Grants support North Carolina educators in providing students with outdoor learning experiences through field trips and visiting programs. Funding ranges from $3,000 for single-day trips to $5,000 for overnight excursions, encouraging exploration of parks and recreation areas. Applications are currently open, but funding is contingent on state allocations, with a recommendation to schedule activities after July 2025.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant for schools to implement the PLTW Biomedical Science program for the 2026-2029 academic years. Eligible schools can receive up to $14,000 to cover participation fees and training costs. This grant encourages public, private, and charter schools across the U.S. to enhance their science curriculum, supporting students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Schools must commit to offering specific courses during the grant period to qualify for funding.

The Go Outside (GO) Grants offer funding up to $15,000 for North Carolina K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations to enhance outdoor learning experiences. While applications are open, funding is contingent upon state support. The grants are dedicated to projects like outdoor classrooms and gardens that promote education and recreation for underserved youth aged 4-18. However, indoor activities and non-educational projects may not be funded.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund's Career Award for STEM Teachers honors exceptional educators in North Carolina public schools. Offering $175,000 over five years, this award supports teachers with proven success in STEM education and encourages professional development. Special consideration is given to those in challenging classrooms and efforts to integrate climate change into curricula. This initiative aims to enhance STEM education across the state by empowering teachers as leaders and change agents.

The Russell Glenwood Baldwin Scholarship supports graduating seniors from Brunswick County, NC, pursuing higher education in state. Ideal candidates are those from Leland, NC, and those focusing on natural health, nutrition, or organic farming. The scholarship considers character, academic dedication, and financial need. Applications open on Dec. 16, 2025, and close on March 3, 2026. Preference may be given to students from Pungo Christian Academy or those who have served as volunteer firefighters.
