Community Vision Fund  Grants

The Community Vision Fund seeks to fulfill community needs and advance well-being for all in Calumet, Outagamie, Shawano and Waupaca and the Neenah-Menasha area of Winnebago counties. The fund combines dollars from generous donors, which enable us to accomplish much more together than we could alone.The fund provides grants in five focus areas involving staff and community volunteers from our Board of Directors in our decision-making. Guided by our Foundation values, we aim to act as a trusted and supportive partner to our local charitable organizations using a process that’s designed to be accessible and responsive to changing community needs. 

Focus Areas

The Community Vision Fund’s focus areas are influenced by the Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being and the Imagine Fox Cities’ community vision. Grantmaking will typically focus on the following areas:

Grantmaking Approach

As we consider inquiries matching these focus areas, we place importance on the following:  

• Investing in under-resourced and/or historically excluded communities and organizations
• Investing in rural communities
• Investing in systems change efforts and systems thinking
• Investing in organizations or programs led by people with lived experience (or those in closest proximity) to the issues we’re trying to address
• Applying a diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism lens to all requests  

Funding

We support a wide range of grant awards through this fund, from small grants for community events, projects, planning, and training to larger grants for activities like capacity-building, implementing new programs or initiatives, engaging in systems-change work, and supporting operational needs. Grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $20,000,

Charitable Contributions

Costco Wholesale’s primary charitable efforts specifically focus on programs supporting children, education, and health and human services in the communities where we do business. Throughout the year we receive a large number of requests from nonprofit organizations striving to make a positive impact, and we are thankful to be able to provide support to a variety of organizations and causes. While we would like to respond favorably to all requests, understandably, the needs are far greater than our allocated resources and we are unable to accommodate them all.

Grant Applications

If the request is under consideration, you may be contacted by staff for any additional information needed. Applications are reviewed within 4-6 weeks, and decisions are made based on several factors, including: type of program; identified community need not otherwise available; indication that evidenced based data will establish measurable results of intended outcomes; community collaboration; broad base of financial support; project budget and operating expenses.

Background

Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation seeks to dramatically improve the lives of underserved communities across the globe by supporting scalable, innovative, and impact-first solutions that leverage existing systems and stakeholders. Our goal is to find social entrepreneurs with dynamic products or services that have a proven ability to positively impact the lives of underserved people, and nurture those organizations at the early stages by providing capacity, capital, and community.

DRK Foundation funds early-stage social impact organizations solving the world’s biggest social and environmental problems using bold, scalable approaches.

What stage of growth does DRK Foundation typically fund?

Early stage: Organizations who are early stage, which we define as post-pilot and pre-scale. This typically means: 

• Your program, product or service is already being used in the market or in the field, 
• You have early indication that your model is having its intended impact on the beneficiary populations,
• Your organization is relatively young (ideally between two and five years old, although we will consider both younger and older organizations).

Venture funding: In the case of for profits, we typically support Seed to Series A organizations, and never lead rounds; we also generally but not exclusively refrain from participating in financings exceeding a $15M USD post-money valuation.  

Fox Cares Foundation Grant

The Fox Cares Foundation strengthens communities in its service area by making grants in three priority areas:

• Homelessness:
  • Emergency shelter programs.
  • Temporary or transitional housing programs where counseling, case worker assistance, and education are employed to help people move from shelter to independent, self-supported housing.
  • Other projects and programs assisting those experiencing homelessness.
• Hunger and food insecurity:
• Development of systems that give an organization access to increase food security.
• Truly innovative solutions to food insecurity.
• Grants for culturally specific and/or difficult to secure foods; creation of mobile pantries; programs that educate their clients about healthy cooking/foods, etc.
• Arts:
  • Projects and programs that actively engage under-represented populations in the arts.
  • Arts projects and programs that engage children and young adults in the arts in order to improve their math, reading, cognitive, verbal, or critical thinking skills.
  • Art projects designed to build community in lasting, meaningful and measurable ways.

Global Impact Cash Grants

Cisco welcomes applications for Global Impact Cash Grants from community partners around the world who share our vision and offer an innovative approach to a critical social challenge.

We identify, incubate, and develop innovative solutions with the most impact. Global Impact Cash Grants go to nonprofits and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that address a significant social problem. We’re looking for programs that fit within our investment areas, serve the underserved, and leverage technology to improve the reach and efficiency of services. We accept applications year-round from eligible organizations. An initial information form is used to determine whether your organization will be invited to complete a full application.

Social Investment Areas

At Cisco, we make social investments in three areas where we believe our technology and our people can make the biggest impact—education, economic empowerment, and crisis response, the last of which incorporates shelter, water, food, and disaster relief. Together, these investment areas help people overcome barriers of poverty and inequality, and make a lasting difference by fostering strong global communities.

Education Investments

Our strategy is to inclusively invest in technology-based solutions that increase equitable access to education while improving student performance, engagement, and career exploration. We support K-12 solutions that emphasize science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as well as literacy. We also consider programs that teach environmental sustainability, eliminate barriers to accessing climate change education, and invite student engagement globally to positively affect the environment.

What we look for:

• Innovative early grade solutions using the internet and technology to bridge the barriers preventing access to education for underserved students globally.
• Solutions that positively affect student attendance, attitudes, and behavior while inspiring action by students to improve learning outcomes, whether they participate in person, online, or in blended learning environments. 
• Solutions with high potential to replicate and scale globally, thereby increasing the availability of evidence-based solutions that support student-centricity, teacher capacity in the classroom, and increased parental participation to help students learn and develop.

Economic Empowerment

Our strategy is to invest in early stage, tech-enabled solutions that provide equitable access to the knowledge, skills, and resources that people need to support themselves and their families toward resilience, independence, and economic security.

Our goal is to support solutions that benefit individuals and families, and that contribute to local community growth and economic development in a sustainable economy.

We target our support in three interconnected areas:

• Skills development to help job seekers secure dignified employment and long-term career pathways in technology or other sectors, including environmental sustainability/green jobs.
• Inclusive entrepreneurship with small businesses as engines of local growth as well as high growth potential start-ups as large-scale job creators nationally and internationally, in technology or other sectors, including environment sustainability/green businesses.
• Banking the unbanked through relevant and affordable financial products and capacity building services.

Cisco Crisis Response

We seek to help overcome the cycle of poverty and dependence and achieve a more sustainable future through strategic investments. We back organizations that successfully address critical needs of underserved communities, because those who have their basic needs met are better equipped to learn and thrive.

What we look for:

• Innovative solutions that increase the capacity of grantees to deliver their products and services more effectively and efficiently
• Design and implementation of web-based tools that increase the availability of, or improve access to, products and services that are necessary for people to survive and thrive
• Programs that increase access to clean water, food, shelter, or disaster relief and promote a more sustainable future for all
  • By policy, relief campaigns respond to significant natural disaster and humanitarian crises as opposed to those caused by human conflict. Also by policy, our investments in this area do not include healthcare solutions.

Climate Impact

Our strategy is to invest US$100 million in Cisco Foundation funds over the next decade to help reverse the impact of climate change, working toward a sustainable and regenerative future for all.

The commitment includes both grant and impact investment funding for early-stage climate innovation. Both categories of support will be focused on bold climate solutions, and the grants side will also concentrate on community education and activation. Grants will go to exceptionally aligned nonprofit organizations, while impact investments will go to highly promising for-profit solutions through the private sector and climate impact funds.

Funding comes from the Cisco Foundation and will focus on:

• Identifying bold and innovative solutions that:
  • Draw down the carbon already in the atmosphere
  • Regenerate depleted ecosystems and broadly support the transition to a regenerative future
• Developing curricular initiatives to spur community engagement that can lead to measurable behavioral change and collective action

We will prioritize organizations that can achieve, measure, and report outcomes such as:

• Reduction, capture, and/or sequestering of greenhouse gas and carbon emissions
• Increased energy efficiency and improved mapping and management of natural resources, such as ecosystem restoration, forest treatments, reforestation, and afforestation that also will help repair our water cycles
• Transition to inclusive, just, coliberatory, and regenerative operating models, ways of being, and ways of organizing economies
• Creation of, and increase in, access to green jobs and job training
• Changes in community and individual behavior that lead to carbon footprint reduction, community climate resilience, and localized roadmaps to a sustainable shared climate future for all

The Labcorp Charitable Foundation

Advocates for Older Adults Grants

Purpose

To support charitable projects that benefit the elderly in the Oshkosh area.

Overview

As the population of older adults in our community grows, additional resources will be required to support their specialized needs. Grants from the Ladies Benevolent Society: Advocates for Older Adults Fund, a field of interest fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, are targeted to help nonprofit organizations provide services to benefit the elderly in the Oshkosh area.

Eligible proposals will:

• Serve adults age 55 or older in the Oshkosh area
• Help adults in economic need and that are socially isolated
• Improve the health and well-being of older adults in our community

Funding

Range of grantmaking: Up to $5,000 with occasional larger grants for capital projects.

About the DNR

In keeping with our mission, the DNR is dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

State Park and Forest Heritage Trust Fund

The Wisconsin Legislature created the State Park and Forest Heritage Trust Fund to provide grants to Friends Groups for the maintenance and operations of state parks, southern state forests, state trails or state recreation areas. A Friends Group must have established an endowment fund for the benefit of the property. Only interest generated by the endowment fund can be used as the applicant’s match.

Nonprofit Resilience Priorities

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation will continue to focus on Nonprofit Resilience with opportunities designed to help organizations build the capacity required to adapt to a changing ecosystem and maximize their ability to achieve their missions. The Community Impact program will focus on support for:

• Fundraising – Build skills to achieve your fundraising goals through educational sessions and personalized coaching.
• Digital Marketing – Work with an expert to analyze your website and social media efforts and implement improvements.
• Leadership Development – Participate in a year-long experience to improve your critical thinking and communications skills, grow your knowledge of all aspects of nonprofit operations, and improve your ability to work collaboratively and problem solve within a team.
• Small Capital and Programming Needs – Strengthen your nonprofit’s ability to serve its clients and achieve its mission.

Purpose

To help nonprofits build the capacity required to adapt to a changing ecosystem and maximize their ability to achieve their missions.

Leadership Development

Nonprofits located in the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation service area can now apply to be part of the cohort of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute offered by the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative. This year-long series of seminars led by content experts provides education on leadership, management, and governance topics critical to nonprofit effectiveness. This program is designed for new or seasoned executive directors, or senior leaders within nonprofits with at least one paid staff person and an annual budget of $250,000 or more. The Community Foundation will provide scholarships for at least four leaders to participate. A co-investment of $1,500 is required from each participating nonprofit.

Purpose:

To support nonprofits in providing scholarships for children from low-income families to attend overnight camp.

Overview

For 58 years, Camp Hiwela taught the value and joy of being outdoors and camping. After the sale of the camp in 1995, the Winnebagoland Council of Camp Fire Boys and Girls used the proceeds to create the Hiwela Youth Fund. This fund supports nonprofits in providing scholarships for children from families with limited financial resources to attend camp and participate in outdoor learning experiences that encourage them to better understand and live in harmony with the outdoors. The amount of financial assistance provided by a Hiwela Campership to any individual is not to exceed 50% of camp expenses.

Campership proposals will be assessed using the following criteria:

• Focus on Outdoor Learning: Does the proposal emphasize outdoor learning experiences that promote appreciation and harmony with nature?
• Financial Need: Is there a clear process for prioritizing low-income families, and does the request comply with the 50% funding limit per camper?
• Impact Potential: How many youth will benefit from the grant, and will the proposed activities foster personal growth, such as confidence, leadership, and social skills?
• Past Performance (if applicable): For returning applicants, were previous grants used efffectively, and is there evidence—such as participant feedback—of a positive impact?

Purpose

To support charitable projects and programs that further youth development.

Overview

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation is committed to creating better opportunities for children. In addition to education grants, the Community Foundation offers funding opportunities to charitable organizations that support youth development.

Youth Programs 

Grants from a variety of youth-related field of interest funds held by the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation typically support projects or programs that:

• Add to the development of youth through environmental education and/or outdoor learning experiences.
• Establish new services for youth where there is a documented need.
• Strengthen existing youth programs that show continued need, especially those that promote volunteerism and/or leadership skill development.
• Supply adaptive equipment or mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs to children with disabilities.

Nonprofits can apply for support from digital marketing experts retained by the Community Foundation to employ online marketing tactics to amplify your mission, encourage donations, attract volunteers, and help your organization grow. Participating organizations will receive a brand audit and recommendations to help identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement along with up to 45 hours of service provision.

Potential services include:

• Brand Audit and Strategy Development: Conduct a thorough assessment of your nonprofit’s current position and develop a strategic roadmap to align digital marketing efforts with your organization’s goals and values.
• Content Creation. Create and publish high-quality digital content like testimonials, blog posts, videos, or graphics based on the message you want to convey and the audience.
• Email Marketing. Develop an email marketing strategy including creation of email or online newsletter templates, personalized messaging, and content to strategically nurture relationships and educate stakeholders.
• Social Media Strategy. Determine the best social media platforms for your organization and build a content calendar.
• Search Engine Optimization. Implement on-page and off-page tactics for your website to gain visibility in search engine results and in turn grow organic traffic.
• Website Recommendations. An audit of your website and recommendations for improvements and updates.

Services will be provided over a 4-month period. A minimum time commitment of 1-2 hours a week is required for all participating nonprofits. A small co-investment from your organization may also be required.

Purpose

To employ online marketing tactics to amplify nonprofits’ missions, encourage donations, attract volunteers, and help organizations grow.

Women's Fund

The Women's Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation is a partnership of donors, grantees, and volunteers working to advance the status of women of all ages in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Through grantmaking and fund development, the Women's Fund strives to create measurable social change in the areas of education, economic self-sufficiency, health and well-being, and safety from abuse and crime. All funds under the Women's Fund umbrella are administered by the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.

Purpose

To support women and girls by making resources available for causes of interest to women, fostering among women a sense of empowerment and philanthropy, and increasing awareness throughout the community of the importance of women's issues.

Funding

For this year, we will accept grants at a minimum of $5,000 with a maximum of $25,000. 

Participation in arts and cultural activities enriches the lives of individuals, promotes interaction among residents, provides opportunities to deepen learning, and builds community across groups with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

In order to support local arts programming, the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation annually applies for funds from the Wisconsin Arts Board. All funds received are matched with local community donations to the Fund for the Arts, and then re-granted to established arts organizations or nonprofit groups with an innovative arts program.

Grant Guidelines

Community Arts Grants support the creation and presentation of arts in our community. Proposed projects can be any artistic discipline or combination of artistic media. 

Examples of eligible activities include, but are not limited to:

• A theater presents multiple productions and educational programming throughout the year including residencies.
• A museum or gallery holds an exhibition or community arts event.
• A performing arts organization presents a dance, music, or theater performance.
• A community nonprofit group coordinates an arts-based community celebration, festival, or concert.
• A university department offers an annual art film and video festival for community and university audiences.
• A literary organization presents a series of poetry readings, a books festival, and/or produces a literary journal featuring local poets.

Background

Together, Schreiber and the Schreiber Foods Foundation provide support to charitable organizations and programs that address food insecurity and basic needs in our communities. As a leader in the food industry, we’re excited to be able to give back beyond funding so we can maximize our impact and do good through food.

We focus our philanthropic support in areas of food and other basic needs, defined as education, health & well-being, housing, and self-sufficiency. We’re committed to making a difference in the communities where our partners work, live and play.

One of the ways we show that commitment is by helping charitable organizations do good in the world. We provide funding opportunities through community grants, and encourage nonprofits in our communities to apply.

Evaluation Criteria

In general, strong programs will:

• Align with one of Schreiber’s defined areas of giving.
• Address a well-defined need with a clearly defined action to meet the need/opportunity.
• Improve the quality of life for the community or its residents.
• Use innovative approaches to address community issues.
• Help the organization become self-sufficient.
• Use partnerships or collaborations with other non-profits or other entities to leverage impact.
• Be feasible and likely to succeed.
• Demonstrate a reasonable level of risk.
• Propose appropriate and reasonable budgetary items.
• Attract additional funding and leverage resources.
• Create well-defined, meaningful and measurable project outcomes and methods to report actual outcomes. (Measurement complexity should be relative to the size of the grant request.)
• Have long-term impact, especially relative to cost.
• Have a positive standing with Schreiber Foods regarding previously received grants, including the complete and timely submission of required grant reports about measured impact, activities, and expenditures within one year of an award.

Strong proposals will usually request $1,000 to $100,000.
