Offshore Wind Science and Research RFP

Massachusetts remains committed to offshore wind as a key energy source to provide critically needed energy, spur economic development, and create good-paying jobs. MassCEC recognizes that offshore wind development occurs in a dynamic ocean environment that supports existing marine industries of economic and cultural importance, is inhabited by critically endangered wildlife, and is itself undergoing climate-induced changes. These variables, among others, present a wide range of technical, logistical, and analytical research opportunities related to the offshore wind industry, particularly now that several projects have or soon will reach commercial operation. Focused science and research activities, and the organizational capacity to conduct that science and research, are needed in the near- and long-term to inform, optimize, and catalyze industry growth.   

The 2026 RFP will fund up to $2.5 million for projects aligned with priority research areas identified by MassCEC. While a broad array of research projects will be eligible to apply, this round of funding has also specified topic areas of interest within each of the following categories:

• Fisheries: Understanding Effects in Southern New England Lease Areas
• Wildlife and Habitat
• Regional Transmission Planning
• Gulf of Maine Regional Monitoring
• Communicating Existing Science and Research

MassCEC has allocated up to $2.5 Million Dollars ($2,500,000) in funding for awards and commitments under the Solicitation. We expect that awards will range from approximately $50,000 to $500,000. An application proposing higher amounts of MassCEC funding must present a compelling case for the funding need and potential outcomes toward achieving the Objectives.

The Boston Scientific Foundation focuses on improving health and educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged individuals, particularly in communities where its employees reside. Its health programs target diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions, emphasizing disease prevention, awareness, access, and quality of care. Organizations eligible for funding must be tax-exempt and serve specific geographic areas while adhering to non-discrimination policies. However, the foundation does not support certain areas, including dental health and political campaigns.

The Moses Kimball Fund Grant supports nonprofit organizations providing job opportunities for minorities and disadvantaged individuals in Greater Boston, or facilitating connections between educational institutions and community members in need. Applications are accepted annually from June 1st to March 1st. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. This grant aims to empower underserved populations and promote educational outreach.

GWCF: Esler Family Foundation Inspiring Generosity Match Fund

The Esler family, founders of the Esler Family Foundation, have committed $1 million over two years to the Inspiring Generosity Match Fund, which will be hosted at the community foundation as a donor advised fund. 

The Inspiring Generosity Match Fund was developed to provide general operating, program, project, or capital project support to nonprofits doing critical work in Worcester County while also providing an incentive to organizations and donors to double their impact with a dollar-for-dollar match. The Esler family believes that matching grants help organizations reach their goals faster, create opportunities to build new relationships, and create a broader and more sustainable community of support.

Reduce barriers to mental health care

Provide programs and services to improve mental health for underserved communities

Evaluate the effectiveness of program models in reducing depression and anxiety, and driving broader well-being outcomes

Youth Opportunity

We invest in organizations working to build equitable and dynamic futures for young people (up to 24 years old), prioritizing organizations that:

• Support students' academic and personal growth
• Deliver job readiness and life skills programming to prepare and empower young people (up to 24 years old)
• Provide post-secondary opportunities

Economic Mobility

We support organizations focused on helping individuals and families to build livelihoods, improve their quality of life, and contribute to a vibrant economy, prioritizing organizations that:

• Deliver job readiness skills programming including ESOL and career training
• Foster and empower entrepreneurship
• Provide support and resources around financial literacy

Scope & Selection Criteria

• The grant size for this program is $10,000 - $25,000.
• Requests can be for general operating, program, project, or capital project support.
• Grantees will be assessed in the following areas:
  • Alignment with at least one of the above areas of support
  • Organizations with roots in Worcester County and proven impact for residents
  • Plan for leveraging matching requirement to meet new donors and deepen engagement with existing donors

Match Requirement

Grantees will receive 50% of the grant up front. The remaining portion of funds raised will be disbursed at the end of the grant period.

Grantees will have until 12/31/2026 to raise their match. Funds raised in the 2026 calendar year can count towards the match requirement.

Eligible organizations can apply once per program, fostering collaboration and measurable outcomes. This grant aligns with the foundation's mission to improve community life across a diverse 33-community region, emphasizing capacity-building and efficiency.

The Community Enrichment Grant, offered by the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, aims to enhance community vitality through support for local arts, culture, civic engagement, and development projects. Grants typically range from $2,000 to $15,000, with a focus on fostering inclusive relationships among residents and organizations. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, while individuals and for-profit entities are ineligible. This initiative seeks to create impactful and measurable community improvements.

The TD Charitable Foundation has been dedicated to improving community quality of life since 2002, contributing over $254 million to non-profit organizations.
