The IronMountain Solutions Employee Peaks Fund, established in 2018 in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, supports local non-profits. With over $400,000 donated by employees, the fund prioritizes quality of life initiatives such as arts, basic needs, economic opportunity, education, environment, health, and community development. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits serving the Huntsville area, ensuring services are accessible to all community members.

About Community Foundation of South Alabama

Since its inception, the Community Foundation has grown to over 500 funds and awarded over $98 million in grants and scholarships throughout the eight counties of southwest Alabama, improving the lives of many residents in our corner of the world.

We amplify the gifts from generous donors through wise investment, support others in efforts to enhance our community, and lead and collaborate on initiatives which have a broad impact.

Scholarships

The more than 40 scholarship funds at the Foundation were created by generous donors who wanted to help the students in our community achieve a brighter future. We are committed to assisting the most promising students with scholarships for professional certificate programs, two and four-year undergraduate degrees and graduate school. The scholarship funds at the Foundation award grants to high school, community college and university students to be used for tuition, books, and fees.

Pat Piercy Education Trust Fund

The scholarship is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending full time at USA, majoring in math, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, botany, or geology. Student must reside in Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, or Washington and have a GPA of at least a 2.8. The student must meet all previous requirements to be considered for renewal.

The Mike & Gillian Goodrich Foundation offers Program, Operating, and Capital Campaign Grants to support nonprofit organizations in the Birmingham area and the Black Belt of Alabama. Since 2009, it has distributed over $26 million to enhance education, neighborhood revitalization, cultural arts, and environmental initiatives. Applications are accepted quarterly, with specific deadlines for different types of grants, ensuring that funds align with the Foundation's mission to strengthen communities and improve quality of life.

The Pew Biomedical Scholars Program offers significant funding of $300,000 over four years to support early-career researchers in biomedical sciences. The program encourages innovative and impactful research that contributes to human health, requiring nomination from one of the 212 participating institutions. Candidates must hold a doctorate, run an independent lab as an assistant professor, and demonstrate exceptional promise. This program fosters collaboration and annual meetings for scholars to present their findings.

The Region 2 Emergency Preparedness and Response Award aims to enhance community resilience against natural disasters and emergencies. It encourages projects focused on preparedness, mitigation, and recovery, addressing issues from weather disasters to local violence. Eligible applicants include organizations from Alabama, Florida, and other states in Region 2, prioritizing initiatives that support underserved communities and promote effective use of National Library of Medicine resources for health information access.

The Building EPSCoR-State/National Laboratory Partnerships program by the DOE aims to foster innovative energy research collaborations between EPSCoR jurisdictions and DOE National Laboratories. This initiative encourages participation from undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, while emphasizing the utilization of DOE user facilities. Eligible applicants include early career faculty from designated states, promoting competitive research and advancing scientific understanding in the energy sector.

The Cowles Charitable Trust Grant supports initiatives aligned with the philanthropic legacy of Gardner Cowles, Jr. Focused on education, social justice, health, and the arts, it favors organizations recognized as 501(c)(3) by the IRS. The Trust encourages applications for general operating support and seeks partnerships rather than being the sole funder. Notably, it considers applications from established partners and supports efforts in Downstate New York and South Florida, with a preference for diverse funding sources.

The Compass Society Grantmaking, part of the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, aims to foster high-impact, collaborative projects that enhance the community's quality of life. Grants of $50,000 will support innovative initiatives across various focus areas, including arts, education, and health. Priority is given to projects demonstrating significant community collaboration and visionary goals. This funding opportunity invites organizations to partner and create sustainable changes for the Greater Huntsville area.

The Mutual of America Foundation Community Partnership Award honors exemplary nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that foster collaborative partnerships across sectors. The Cross-Sector Impact Grants by South Arts aim to enhance community vitality through artistic collaborations focused on health and wellness. Grants up to $15,000 support projects that bridge arts with sectors like health, emphasizing partnerships between artists and organizations. Eligible projects must include public activities to foster community engagement and creativity. This initiative prioritizes diverse representation, particularly from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ led organizations, and aims to reach rural and underserved communities.

The Community Foundation of South Alabama offers grants to support mental and physical health initiatives in Baldwin and Mobile counties. These grants focus on projects that assist individuals and families facing trauma, chronic illnesses, and access to specialty care. Emphasizing sustainable programs, the foundation encourages innovative approaches and collaborative strategies to enhance community well-being. The Joseph S. Bruno Charitable Foundation Grant aims to foster a supportive community for families and children in Birmingham, emphasizing health, education, and collaboration. The foundation prioritizes programs that enhance access to healthcare and education for underserved populations, while also providing technical assistance and partnerships. By focusing on holistic community improvement and collaboration with various stakeholders, the foundation seeks to create a lasting impact through strategic grantmaking and support.

The Harland Jones Charitable Fund aims to support educational and developmental initiatives for youth aged 19 and younger in Northeast Alabama. Established by Mr. Jones, this fund promotes literacy, education, and safety, ensuring that children have the resources to thrive. Organizations eligible for grants must be 501(c)(3) certified and operate in specific counties, committing to positive change through collaborative partnerships and strategic planning.

The Southern Circuit Screening Partner Grant invites nonprofit, educational, or governmental organizations in the South Arts region to host screenings of independent documentaries. This initiative promotes diverse filmmakers, including those from historically marginalized communities. Partners engage audiences through strategic marketing and provide logistical support for filmmakers. The program emphasizes collaboration during film selection and aims to foster meaningful conversations about the art of filmmaking while making the events accessible to all community members.

The Herbert M. Christian Scholarship, established in 1997 by the Elmore County Community Foundation, supports graduating seniors from Elmore County high schools. It rewards academic achievement and financial need, with special consideration for applicants with physical handicaps. The Elmore County Community Foundation has been a vital source of funding for various nonprofit organizations, distributing millions in grants and scholarships to empower local students and enhance community services.

The Jackson Family Phoenix Fund Scholarship, established by the Central Alabama Community Foundation, aims to support graduates from Montgomery and Lowndes County public high schools. This scholarship encourages students to pursue degrees in math or non-healthcare sciences at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and meet ACT or SAT score requirements.
