Graduate students in psychomotor measurement and evaluation at U.S. colleges and universities can receive support for professional expenses, including those contributing to community health education. With a mission to advance health and physical education, SHAPE America provides New York and other U.S. students who are members of SHAPE America and its Measurement and Evaluation SIG with this award.

Health and physical education professionals contributing to measurement and evaluation, including those in New York, can be honored for advancing assessment in K–12, community health education, and physical fitness. With a mission to advance professional practice and research, Society of Health and Physical Educators recognizes outstanding members of its Measurement and Evaluation SIG through this national honor award.

Health and physical education professionals advancing measurement and evaluation, including those in New York, can be honored through the Measurement and Evaluation Lifetime Achievement Award. With a mission to advance professional practice, Society of Health and Physical Educators recognizes SHAPE America members with substantial, lifelong scholarly impact in health and physical education assessment.

New York community health education students who meet GPA and full-time enrollment requirements may benefit from this Society of Health and Physical Educators award.

New York 501(c)(3) nonprofits planning community wellness, health education, or fitness events can access funding through Better Health Together, with awards up to US $5,000. Eligible organizations may request support for one sponsorship per year, including multiple events, and should apply at least 6–8 weeks before the event date.

New York community health education nonprofits with at least one year of outcomes can access funding through the H Hovnanian Family Foundation for projects in public health, emergency response, and related education initiatives. U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations, including schools and churches, may receive up to US $10,000, with preference for work benefiting New Jersey communities.

New York nonprofits, schools, and government agencies hosting community health education events can access funding through Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation for sponsorships, in-kind support, and related community engagement. Eligible projects include health fairs, workshops, awareness campaigns, and local membership opportunities that advance physical, mental, and social well-being and support economic stability and neighborhood environments.

Awards

Robert F. Gagel, M.D. Community Leadership Award

The Robert F. Gagel, M.D. Community Leadership Award recognizes a healthcare professional who has made outstanding contributions to improving osteoporosis care and increasing community awareness about bone health. This award will be presented annually to a healthcare professional residing and working in the United States or its territories.

The Executive Committee of the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation’s (BHOF’s) Board of Trustees will review nominations and select the recipient.

The award winner will be notified and announced in May, in recognition of Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month. The recipient will receive a plaque and a financial award (currently $1,000) to support community service efforts initiatives related to osteoporosis and bone health.

The AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism

Prize Summary

The AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism was established by the AACR in 2015 to raise awareness of the critical role that the media play in educating the public about cancer and cancer research.

Funded by a major bequest to the AACR from cancer research pioneer Dr. June L. Biedler, a scientist, mentor, and former member of the AACR Board of Directors, this prize showcases outstanding examples of cancer journalism and recognizes individual professional journalists who have produced accurate, informative, and compelling stories that enhance the public’s understanding of cancer, cancer research, cancer advocacy, or cancer policy.

The prize provides an unrestricted cash award of $5,000 and a commemorative award.

Lilly Foundation, through its charitable grants, aims to support permissible charitable efforts to improve access to quality healthcare for resource-limited communities in low- and lower-middleincome countries (L/LMICs) and in the United States. Strengthening access to care is essential for enhancing community well-being and supporting economic stability in resource-limited settings.

The Global Health focus area aims to close gaps in quality healthcare by supporting charitable solutions that improve access, bring care closer to where people live, and address the high burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in resource-limited settings. To the extent permissible, the Foundation prioritizes charitable efforts related to cardiometabolic health in resource-limited settings.

K-12 STEM Education

The K-12 STEM Education focus area aims to close the gaps for students from low-income communities by supporting programs that foster new pathways and pipelines to STEM education through focused K-12 efforts, concentrating on the critical middle school years. The Foundation’s K-12 STEM Education grants are focused on initiatives that benefit Marion County, Indiana.

Economic Mobility

The Economic Mobility focus area supports charitable and educational programs that strengthen workforce readiness, postsecondary and skills-based educational pathways, and housing stability to promote long-term prosperity.
