NCRC Field Empowerment Fund (FEF) - Housing Counseling Services

The Field Empowerment Fund (FEF) empowers NCRC network members to level up established service lines.

The Housing Counseling Services series within FEF supports HUD-approved housing counseling agencies in driving homeownership, such as through pre-purchase counseling. In addition, the program builds agency knowledge on heirs’ property challenges to better equip first-time and low-income homebuying households with the know-how to retain intergenerational wealth.

In doing so, FEF-HCS aims to help underserved families begin their homeownership journey, with an additional goal of ensuring foresight into the long-term future of their home purchase.

The FEF-HCS series is funded in partnership with Key Bank and HSBC, and targets communities within the Key Bank and HSBC branch footprints.

Through these partnerships, $2.5 million in Key Bank geographies and $1.5 million in HSBC geographies has been allocated for the subgrants for direct-to-client housing counseling services that will be awarded in three rounds in the FEF-HCS track.

Funding Support

Awardee agencies will receive subgrants to support their housing counseling services to clients.

Knowledge Building

Awardee agencies will attend a training session on heirs’ property challenges and best practices, hosted by NCRC National Training Academy. Bolstering counselor knowledge on this topic will ensure that your agency is not only serving clients in their personal wealth-building journey now, but also helping them preserve that wealth in generations to come.

The AAAAI/ Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Third-Year Fellowship Food Allergy Research Award supports third or fourth-year allergy/immunology or gastroenterology fellows at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. This fellowship aims to foster academic careers in food allergy research by funding educational and research activities. Eligible candidates must be in training, conduct research at Mount Sinai, and be AAAAI In-training members. Priority is given to those with a documented career plan for future research funding.

Training Center of Expertise: Promoting Health Equity to Improve Community Health Outcomes

The purpose of this Request for Applications is to support a statewide Training Center of Expertise in Health Equity. The Training Center of Expertise will be responsible for implementing a range of innovative training interventions to build the capacity of health and human services providers, health care facilities, community-based organizations (CBOs), and communities to employ a health equity framework to improve health outcomes for New York State residents. These trainings are directed towards:

• Executive directors, administrators, and program managers;
• Physicians, other prescribers, and nurses; and
• Social workers, care coordinators, support services providers, community health workers/ educators, and peer workers.

The funded training center will be expected to tailor trainings to meet the unique needs of each designated training audience, including regional or population-specific needs.

Available Funding

A total of up to $200,000 annually in New York State and Health Research, Inc. (federal) funding is available to support a program funded through this Request for Applications. Applicants should be prepared to provide training and capacity building services across New York State and able to address the unique needs of health facilities and Community–Based Organizations, executive directors, administrators, program managers, physicians and other prescribers, nurses, social workers, care coordinators, support services providers, community health workers/educators, and peer workers. The intent of the Request for Applications (RFA) is to fund one (1) training center at the level of $200,000 annually for five (5) years.

New York 501(c)(3) public charities with budgets over $750,000 that provide direct health services or related programs for poor and underserved residents can access funding through Mother Cabrini Health Foundation; awards More than US $75,000. Preschool and early childhood organizations offering healthcare access, education, or telehealth services may be eligible if they meet these criteria.

The Ralph J. Torraco Food Bank/Shelter Fund Grant, offered by the UNICO Foundation Inc., aims to combat hunger and provide shelter for the homeless and indigent. Eligible applicants include registered non-profit food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in 13 U.S. states. The grant focuses on direct services, ensuring that all funds are used for food and shelter, not for operating expenses, thereby promoting effective community support for vulnerable populations.

Consumer Assistance for New York State of Health: Navigator Program

The New York State Department of Health (herein referred to as the Department), Office of Health Insurance Programs, Division of Eligibility and Marketplace Integration, Bureau of Consumer Assistance and Training, announces the availability of $32,000,000 annually for the Consumer Assistance for NY State of Health: Navigator Program (Program).

The Program provides in-person and telephone health insurance application and enrollment assistance which is culturally competent, linguistically appropriate and disability accessible. The Program is designed to reduce barriers in accessing insurance by providing in-person assistance in community-based locations frequented by target populations, at times that are convenient to potential health insurance enrollees, including evenings and weekends.

Telephone application and enrollment assistance is also available at the convenience of the Applicant or enrollee. Navigators will also assist small businesses in enrolling in the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP), allowing them to access tax credits. As a result of this Request for Applications (RFA), approximately $32,000,000 will be available per year for a period of five (5) years for the delivery of Navigator Program services.

The goal is to have at least two Grantees providing Navigator Program services in every county in New York State, as well as funds for Federally Recognized Tribes and Urban Indian Organizations.

The Ralph J. Torraco Scholarship for Computer Science Studies, awarded by the UNICO Foundation, offers four scholarships of $1,000 each to full-time students pursuing a degree in Computer Science at accredited U.S. colleges. Eligible applicants must reside in specific states or have a UNICO sponsor, be U.S. citizens aged 18 or older, and continue their studies in the 2026-2027 academic year. Through grants of up to $75,000, the program supports governmental and non-profit organizations in promoting affordable housing, community stabilization, and home renovations. Eligible applicants include municipalities and charitable organizations dedicated to affordable housing. The AHC Acquisition & Rehabilitation RFP aims to enhance homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families in New York. Former students and auditors of Professor Samuel Freedman’s Book Seminar working on nonfiction book projects can receive US $3,000 for proposal development, research, or manuscript writing.
