Voter Mobilization & Civic Innovation Fund

This fund is designed for organizations that are deeply rooted in community, testing bold or emerging strategies, and able to adapt quickly to changing on-the-ground conditions. The Southern Voter Mobilization & Innovation Fund is a 12-36 month, election-cycle investment designed to support organizations that are: 

• Closest to communities facing the most barriers to political participation
• Testing bold, creative, or unproven civic engagement strategies
• Shifting power to local groups participating in civic engagement
• Responding rapidly to on-the-ground conditions during the 2026 midterms 

Tier 1: SPLC Priority Counties  

Vote Your Voice is most interested in boosting turnout amongst communities historically denied voting access. It has identified the following counties as priorities where turnout among sub-demographic groups is below the state-wide average (especially Black men). We intentionally did not include some counties in major metros areas because of our desire to increase voter engagement activity in other parts of the states.  

The Foothills Community Partnership Fund aims to create sustainable solutions for human care issues in Calhoun County, Alabama. Focused on education, community development, and wellness, the fund supports 501(c)(3) public charities. Grant awards under $3,000 are fully disbursed upon agreement, while larger grants are split into two payments, contingent on reporting. Eligible organizations must meet specific criteria including a minimum operating history and financial documentation, promoting accountability and effective use of funds.

The Summit Grant, provided by the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, aims to support short-term projects (up to 12 months) that enhance community leadership development and organizational technology. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) charities operating for at least one year in specified counties. Funding is available for training, technology upgrades, and other related expenses, emphasizing non-profit capacity building and operational improvements.

The Alabama Power Foundation offers grants to support initiatives in education, arts, community development, health, and environmental stewardship. These grants aim to address community needs, promote collaboration, and ensure sustainability. Eligible projects can lead to lasting improvements and must serve underserved populations. The foundation seeks to foster a diverse range of programs that enhance quality of life and educational opportunities while adhering to strict eligibility criteria.

The Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund Grant, managed by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), provides funding for projects aimed at restoring and conserving longleaf pine and bottomland hardwood forests. With approximately $30 million available for 2024, grants range from $250,000 to $3,000,000. This initiative, supported by various federal and private entities, emphasizes the importance of ecological preservation and sustainable land management practices.

BAE Systems offers community investment grants aimed at enhancing the well-being of military families and supporting future workforce development in STEM fields. As a U.S. subsidiary of a global defense and aerospace leader, they require applicants to be recognized 501(c) organizations. The initiative underscores a commitment to charitable partnerships that uplift local communities and contribute positively to society.

The Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative aims to revitalize communities impacted by coal industry transitions. This initiative provides funding for projects that diversify local economies, enhance job training, and create new employment opportunities. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, the POWER Initiative supports strategic investments that align with regional economic development plans, ensuring a more resilient future for coal-affected areas.

The BNSF Railway Foundation provides grants to enhance community quality of life across 28 states, focusing on educational, cultural, and social service initiatives. With over $150 million contributed since 2000, the foundation emphasizes projects with strong local engagement and BNSF employee involvement. Eligible organizations include public charities, local governments, and tribal governments, while ineligible entities encompass religious organizations and those with discriminatory practices. Priority is given to environmental, health, and cultural projects.

Spectrum Digital Education Grants support nonprofit organizations in educating communities about broadband benefits and usage. These grants aim to bridge the digital divide, particularly for seniors and those with disabilities or ethnically diverse backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate community partnership, address specific needs, and provide measurable impact metrics. With a focus on financial feasibility and meaningful outcomes, this initiative ensures that underrepresented urban and rural communities gain access to essential digital resources, fostering long-term improvement in their lives.

The J.W. & Clarissa Pitts Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of J.W. and Clarissa Pitts, who dedicated their lives to education and community service in Anniston, Alabama. Established in 2020, this scholarship supports students pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree at accredited institutions in the U.S. The award is non-renewable and covers tuition, room and board, books, and fees, encouraging recipients to seek additional financial resources.

The Sparklight/Cable One Charitable Giving Fund supports local nonprofits and organizations focused on education, food insecurity, and community development. They prioritize impactful partnerships that strengthen communities. The fund welcomes various funding requests, including special projects and capital campaigns, while adhering to specific eligibility requirements such as tax-exempt status. However, they do not fund basic operating expenses, loans, or religious organizations for general support, ensuring that their contributions foster meaningful community growth.

The Pleiad Foundation, a private family charitable organization in Birmingham, Alabama, supports local non-profits focused on education, medical research, and the arts. Annually, they provide funding to 20-30 organizations that align with their mission, having donated over $17.5 million since their inception in 1996. They meet once a year in January to make funding decisions, prioritizing causes that reflect the interests of their family members.

The Area Development Grant Program, managed by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), supports economic growth in Appalachia through investments in critical infrastructure and workforce development. Targeting 423 counties across 13 states, the program encourages local communities to collaborate with state governments to identify and implement impactful projects. Key focus areas include enhancing utilities, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening local leadership. This initiative aims to uplift the 26 million residents of Appalachia, fostering sustainable economic opportunities.

The ARISE Grants, offered by the Appalachian Regional Commission, aim to drive regional economic transformation across 13 Appalachian states. With funding of up to $63.5 million for implementation grants and $10 million maximum awards, the initiative supports collaborative projects that enhance community capacity and economic growth. The program encourages innovative partnerships to strengthen local economies and achieve socioeconomic parity, benefiting over 26 million residents in the Appalachian Region.

The PNC Foundation aims to enhance the lives of individuals in local communities through partnerships with nonprofit organizations. Their focus includes promoting educational opportunities, particularly for early childhood education, and supporting economic development initiatives. Grants are available for organizations that benefit low- to moderate-income families and enhance community growth. The foundation prioritizes programs that foster sustainability and diversity, ensuring a lasting impact on the communities they serve.

The Educational Foundation of America (EFA) supports the Reproductive Health & Justice Grant Program to enhance access to abortion and contraception throughout the U.S., particularly in Appalachia, Alabama, and Florida. EFA funds innovative organizations that advocate for reproductive rights, provide direct support to abortion services, and leverage impact investing strategies. This commitment aims to ensure reproductive freedom, foster equity, and promote sustainability in underserved communities.

The Stringfellow Health Fund Grant provides essential healthcare funding to 501(c)(3) public charities in nine Alabama counties. Focus areas include addressing preventable health issues, advocacy, and serving individuals with chronic conditions. Eligible organizations must demonstrate a minimum one-year operating history and adhere to specific strategic planning requirements. Grants aim to enhance community health and well-being, fostering a healthier future for residents in the designated service area.

Farley Moody Galbraith Fund

The Farley Moody Galbraith Fund was established by The Farley Moody Galbraith Foundation. Known as a philanthropic leader with a heart for her community, Mrs. Galbraith was an Anniston resident who served on numerous not-for-profit boards. Beyond her service to these organizations she provided generous financial support to not-for-profit organizations that served needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

Grant Purpose

The purpose of the FMGF is to provide charitable support to a wide variety of charitable needs. Consideration shall be given to Mrs. Galbraith’s historical charitable giving that supported needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

Honda’s Community Event Sponsorship aims to support local, regional, and national events that enhance community engagement and celebrate diverse cultures. Organizations must be U.S.-based and tax-exempt, focusing on projects that serve communities where Honda associates are active. Eligible events include parades, festivals, and educational initiatives. Honda evaluates requests based on community needs and available funding, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and community enhancement.

The Southeast Aquatics Grant, offered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), aims to enhance aquatic habitats in the southeastern U.S. This funding opportunity supports projects focused on improving water quality, instream and riparian conditions, and, in select areas, aquatic connectivity and species recovery. Grant amounts range from $150,000 to $500,000, depending on project scale and duration. Interested applicants should consult with program staff for projects outside this funding range.

The Harland Jones Charitable Fund aims to support educational and developmental initiatives for youth aged 19 and younger in Northeast Alabama. Established by Mr. Jones, this fund promotes literacy, education, and safety, ensuring that children have the resources to thrive. Organizations eligible for grants must be 501(c)(3) certified and operate in specific counties, committing to positive change through collaborative partnerships and strategic planning.

The Rural Grants program by the Daniel Foundation of Alabama aims to enhance community well-being by supporting organizations in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties. Eligible projects must focus on improving quality of life for residents in areas with populations under 50,000 and higher poverty rates. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that foster education and community collaboration, ensuring that funds are dedicated to impactful, localized efforts for sustainable development.

The PNC Foundation's Grow Up Great Grant is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for children from birth to age 5. With a commitment of $500 million, this program focuses on improving school readiness through support in vocabulary development, social-emotional learning, and the arts. By partnering with community-based nonprofits, PNC aims to foster stronger, smarter, and healthier communities, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.

The Longleaf Fund, established by the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, aims to foster positive community change through donor generosity. It supports 501(c)(3) public charities within a nine-county region, providing essential funding for diverse charitable initiatives. By creating a sustainable pool of resources, the fund addresses evolving community needs and encourages collaborative partnerships to enhance lives. Eligible organizations can apply for unrestricted grants to further their missions, ensuring a lasting impact on their communities.

The Georgia-Pacific Foundation Grant supports organizations in the Metro Atlanta area, focusing on education, entrepreneurship, community enrichment, and environmental sustainability. Established in 1958, the foundation prioritizes investments that align with its mission and values, promoting long-term well-being within communities where Georgia-Pacific operates. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, public schools, and local government entities located within 30 miles of GP manufacturing sites.

East Alabama: Community Trust Grants

Community Trust Grants are available for services and programs provided by any nonprofit in the East Alabama area.

Nonprofit organizations may submit one EACF Community Trust Grant application for a maximum award of $3,000.

The monetary value of each scholarship award varies depending upon the amount available in each individual scholarship fund. Scholarship award amounts range from $1,000 - $5,000 for a single year.

Caesars Nevada Team Member Scholarship

This year, Caesars Entertainment is partnering with Phil and Jennifer Satre to match the scholarship funding.

Paid work, internships, and volunteerism will be a weighted selection tool used by the committee. This is a one-time award; awards may be single- or multi-year.
