The Farley Moody Galbraith Fund was established by The Farley Moody Galbraith Foundation. Known as a philanthropic leader with a heart for her community, Mrs. Galbraith was an Anniston resident who served on numerous not-for-profit boards. Beyond her service to these organizations she provided generous financial support to not-for-profit organizations that served needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

Grant Purpose

The purpose of the FMGF is to provide charitable support to a wide variety of charitable needs. Consideration shall be given to Mrs. Galbraith’s historical charitable giving that supported needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

The Harland Jones Charitable Fund aims to support educational and developmental initiatives for youth aged 19 and younger in Northeast Alabama. Established by Mr. Jones, this fund promotes literacy, education, and safety, ensuring that children have the resources to thrive. Organizations eligible for grants must be 501(c)(3) certified and operate in specific counties, committing to positive change through collaborative partnerships and strategic planning.

The Longleaf Fund, established by the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, aims to foster positive community change through donor generosity. It supports 501(c)(3) public charities within a nine-county region, providing essential funding for diverse charitable initiatives. By creating a sustainable pool of resources, the fund addresses evolving community needs and encourages collaborative partnerships to enhance lives. To achieve this, Samaritan Health Services offers numerous scholarships to local students pursuing careers as doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, as well continuing education or specialty training for current medical providers.

Each year, Samaritan awards more than $25,000 in scholarships for health care education to ensure the communities we serve receive the best care possible well into the future.

Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship

The Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship was established by the Lebanon Community Hospital Development Council and was funded by numerous contributions made by the late Girod’s friends and family.

The Girod Medical Scholarship is awarded to medical students in honor of the lifetime contribution to health care made by Girod of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and to assist new students of medicine to make similar contributions. The scholarship is coordinated by the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation and is designed to help residents of east Linn County who are attending medical school.

David H. Roe Scholarship

This scholarship assists graduating high school seniors from the Greater Newark area who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics, biology, botany, or chemistry. Applicants must have been accepted to a four-year accredited college/university within the United States and must be entering their freshman year in the fall. If you have not yet been accepted to a college or university, please do not apply at this time. Scholarships are based on merit and unmet financial need.
