Purpose

The program supports counties in assessing public health needs and developing responsive plans to address them by way of the CHA/CHIP process. This effort encourages joint planning between managed care and public health departments to reduce siloed systems, enhance population health outcomes, and align with the DHCS Quality Strategy and Bold Goals.

The Amplifying Impact Initiative aims to strengthen the role of community health workers (CHW/P/Rs) in California's health equity landscape. By connecting 28 CHW/P/R Medi-Cal providers with essential grants and resources over 18 months, this initiative seeks to enhance the workforce's capabilities and support culturally responsive health services. Public Charter Schools Grant Program Start-Up Subgrant

Purpose and Background

The PCSGP is a subgrant program funded by the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP), authorized under Title IV, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (20 United States Code [U.S.C.] 7221–7221j (External Link). The PCSGP is a discretionary grant program. California was awarded approximately $93 million in grant funds for 2024–29. States that are awarded these federal funds distribute them in subgrants to charter school developers, known as PCSGP Start-Up Subgrants in the state of California, to assist in the development and initial operations of newly established or conversion charter schools as well as to assist in the expansion and replication of high-quality charter schools.

PCSGP Start-Up Subgrants identify funding levels and terms into three subgrant types: New School (Planning and Implementation), Replication, and Expansion. For FY 2026, the CDE has an approved pipeline and budget to award approximately 26 subgrants. The actual number and type of subgrants awarded during each RFA competition may vary based on demand. If all authorized awards are not approved for funding, the CDE may open additional RFA competition events for new applicants until allocated funds have been awarded.

The California Sea Grant College Program is now soliciting proposals for applied research projects by new faculty that address California Sea Grant’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan goals and objectives in Resilient Communities and Economies (RCE), Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture* (SFA), and Healthy Coastal Ecosystems (HCE). Proposals addressing our priorities in Resilient Communities and Economies will be given priority in order to best complement our existing investments in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture and Healthy Coastal Ecosystems. 

Proposals can only be submitted by, and support the applied research of, a new faculty member (see Eligibility) employed at a California-based university. Applied research (as defined in NOAA Administrative Order NAO 216-115B) is original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge, and is directed primarily towards a specific practical aim or objective. Projects that demonstrate meaningful impacts and benefits to coastal California communities and natural resources management agencies will be prioritized.

The Small and Rural Hospital Relief Program (SRHRP) provides essential funding and technical assistance for seismic compliance projects aimed at small, rural, and Critical Access hospitals in California. Funded by the California Electronic Cigarette Excise Tax, this program assists eligible hospitals in meeting safety standards to ensure they remain operational after earthquakes, thereby preserving access to vital healthcare services for their communities.

The Rosendin Foundation Emergency Grant provides financial support for unplanned expenses due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters. Grants up to $5,000 are available for community-focused non-profit organizations in states where Rosendin and MPS operate. The foundation prioritizes emotional, occupational, and nutritional health initiatives, aiming to positively impact communities and empower individuals through financial support and volunteer efforts.

The McBeth Foundation Grant supports meaningful initiatives in animal welfare, environmental conservation, the arts, children's programs, health sciences, and communications. Founded by Barbara McBeth Woodruff, the foundation aims to create measurable improvements in local communities. Grants are intended for projects that can benefit multiple individuals, fostering growth like a seed that matures into a tree, offering shade and fruit. Eligible applicants must hold a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

The California Inflation Reduction Act Grants support Urban and Community Forestry projects aimed at enhancing tree canopy access and community engagement, particularly in disadvantaged areas. With a state allocation of $30.8 million, these grants promote climate resilience, combat extreme heat, and improve forest health. Funded by the USDA Forest Service, the initiative aligns with President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, ensuring equitable access to the benefits of urban trees and fostering community involvement in environmental stewardship.

The Rosendin Foundation Annual Grant provides financial support to community-focused 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations across various states, aiding initiatives in emotional, occupational, and nutritional health. Grants can reach up to $50,000 and are geared towards organizations that positively impact their communities. However, the foundation does not fund discriminatory practices, political efforts, or religiously affiliated projects, ensuring that support is directed towards inclusive and impactful community services.

Community Services Block Grant

​The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is a federally funded block grant designed to provide a range of services to assist low-income families and individuals attain the skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary to achieve self-sufficiency. CSBG funds services and activities that have a measurable impact on the causes and conditions of poverty in local communities across the state. 

CSBG is a federally funded block grant that aims to reduce poverty in the United States. CSBG is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Community Services. CSD is designated by the Governor as the state agency responsible for administering the CSBG program in California. 

The Vertebrate Pest Control Research Program aims to fund research and education initiatives that improve control measures for vertebrate pests impacting California's agriculture, infrastructure, and public welfare. Proposals can originate from outside California, provided they address relevant pest concerns within the state. Projects that include additional funding sources are particularly encouraged. Note that proprietary product development projects are not supported by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

The Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy Proposition 4 Grant Program aims to enhance climate resilience through nature-based solutions in conservation lands. It supports projects focused on habitat restoration, wildfire risk reduction, and improving public access to outdoor recreation. Priority is given to initiatives benefiting disadvantaged communities and those that align with California's 30x30 conservation goals. Funding is provided through the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024.

The Franz Bakery Foundation Grant supports local charitable organizations focused on family support, youth development, and hunger reduction in areas served by Franz Bakery. With an average grant amount of $3,000, the Foundation aims to foster respect, equity, and inclusion within communities. Eligible applicants must be 501c3 tax-exempt nonprofits located in specific states and align with the Foundation's mission. Organizations can reapply annually, although applications do not roll over to the next year.

The Charis Fund Grant supports non-profit organizations in California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada, focusing on social welfare, health, and education. Grants range from $2,500 to $7,500, aimed at addressing issues such as housing, food insecurity, and support for at-risk youth. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified and can apply every three years, with specific restrictions on funding for arts and political activities.

The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) Program in California has been vital for financing projects aimed at enhancing water quality since 1989.
