Jonnie York Nursing Fellowship

The Jonnie York Nursing Scholarship: The York Fellows

The Jonnie York Nursing Scholarship: The York Fellows was created to honor Jonnie York, RN, a former board member of Legacy Health Endowment and retired public health nurse for Stanislaus County. Her contributions across the Central Valley are indicative of the hard work and dedication nurses provide. Her leadership and servant’s heart for community wellness have helped close the gap in public healthcare, bringing community wellness to as many people as possible.

This fellowship program will allow Legacy Health Endowment to educate local students who want to obtain a degree in nursing and stay and work in our community. The fellowship will cover full tuition, books, and equipment up to $60,000. LHE will assist local students from the 19 Zip codes who have been accepted into an accredited Bachelor of Science Nursing Program or accredited Accelerated Bachelor of Science Nursing program (ABSN).

Upon completing their studies, graduates must return to work as nurses for two years at a nonprofit or for-profit entity within the communities the Legacy Health Endowment serves.

Our goal is to rebuild the Central Valley’s nursing infrastructure with individuals who grew up in the region and would be more inclined to live and work in the Central Valley, ensuring that all its residents can access quality registered nursing services provided by culturally appropriate trained professionals. The hope is that every local ethnic group will have students who want to become a York Fellow.

Raley's Community Giving supports impactful community initiatives in areas such as child welfare, food access, and sustainability. They prioritize requests that align with these focus areas and require submissions to be made at least 90 days prior to the need date. Organizations must be located in cities with Raley's stores and can only receive support once per fiscal year. Notably, requests for individual sponsorships or third-party fundraising are not eligible.

Legacy Health Endowment grants shall be distributed solely and exclusively to support nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable healthcare facilities and clinics. The grants shall be used to fund direct healthcare services, wellness programs, health research, health education and public/private partnerships formed to improve the health of the residents in the LHE community.

The Sustainable Recreation, Tourism, and Equitable Outdoor Access Directed Grant Program (2025-2027) supports innovative projects aimed at enhancing sustainable recreation and tourism in the Sierra-Cascade region. Key goals include improving public access to nature, mitigating overuse impacts on resources, and fostering sustainable recreation economies. Projects eligible for funding must focus on climate resilience, equitable access, or landscape-scale assessments, all ensuring multiple benefits for community education and environmental protection.

The Teichert Foundation Grant supports organizations in California that enhance community welfare through civic improvement, culture, education, and environmental sustainability. Established by Teichert Construction, the foundation aims to foster a healthier, educated, and more equitable society. Eligible applicants include nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status and public agencies in specified counties. The foundation prioritizes projects that address community needs and demonstrate fiscal responsibility, ultimately striving to create lasting impact and better health for all.

The Bethlehem Foundation Grant, established in 2013, aims to enhance the quality of life for senior adults in Sonoma County, California. It supports nonprofit organizations focused on health, independence, and social interaction for seniors. Applications are accepted year-round, with deadlines on February 28 and August 31 for spring and fall meetings respectively. Grants are limited to qualified public charities under 501(c)(3) and do not extend to individuals.

The S. H. Cowell Foundation Grant focuses on supporting public and nonprofit organizations in Northern and Central California that address acute poverty and promote racial equity. The Joseph & Vera Long Foundation offers grants targeted at non-profit organizations in Northern California and Hawaii. With larger grants ranging from $60,000 to $150,000 in the Spring and smaller grants from $10,000 to $40,000 in the Fall, the foundation focuses on supporting community-driven initiatives. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) compliant and align with the foundation's priorities, which include environmental conservation, youth development, maternal health, and healthy aging.

The Seneca Foods Foundation Grant supports philanthropic initiatives focused on empowering youth and strengthening communities. Since 1988, it has provided funding for education, community assistance, and internships. The Foundation prioritizes organizations connected to Seneca employees, located near its operational facilities, and those that align with its mission. It requires documented performance results and considers only one request per organization annually, ensuring that grants foster measurable impact within the communities served.

The Tupo Pamoja Fund

The Tupo Pamoja Fund supports initiatives and organizations that benefit Black/African American communities in Stanislaus County. Grounded in resident-led decision making, the program is guided by a committee of Black/African American representatives who understand what investments will be most impactful in addressing the needs of their community.

Funding priorities for the 2026 grant cycle focus on:

About Make Dreams Real

Boyett Petroleum recognizes the need in Stanislaus County for a fund to further the opportunities of children in the area to explore and extend their education. Each year, 100% of the funds raised through the invitational golf tournament will be added to the Make Dreams Real Endowment Fund.

Service learning

Service learning is a required component for programs requesting grants from Make Dreams Real. As a requirement for Make Dreams Real, this grant requires a process of accountability and volunteerism in the community with collaboration and participation within the student and parent support groups.

What is service learning?

Service learning is an educational approach that teaches students the importance of giving back to one’s community. It is the belief of the Make Dreams Real Advisory Board and its founder, Carl Boyett, that children and parents who engage in service learning achieve greater success in the program and lasting changes in character.

What does service learning look like?

Service learning looks exactly like community service. Some examples of service learning are as follows:

• Working in your teacher’s classroom after school
• Picking up trash in a park or school
• Feeding the homeless
• Setting up tutoring system or reading buddies with younger students

Special note regarding service learning: We realize that not all school-aged children may be capable of fulfilling the service learning component. This population of students includes, but is not limited to, school-aged children with physical handicaps, those who have experienced severe emotional distress or those with family obligations that may limit their level of engagement. If your population of school-aged children fits into one of these categories, please consider alternative ways of satisfying the service learning component with volunteers.

The foundation prioritizes programs that foster sustainability and diversity, ensuring a lasting impact on the communities they serve.

The NRA Foundation offers grants aimed at supporting charitable purposes aligned with their mission, including promoting firearms safety, education, and research in shooting sports. Eligible applicants must be recognized entities under IRS 501(c)(3) regulations, such as nonprofits or government organizations. This funding is crucial for initiatives that foster public understanding and safety regarding firearms, while ineligible entities include labor organizations and private businesses.

Dot Foods’ Charitable Grant Program offers small grants of $500 or less to support local nonprofits, schools, and government entities. This initiative aims to enhance community development, education, health, diversity, and safety. Dedicated employees at Dot Foods volunteer their time to manage fundraising efforts and grant approvals, ensuring that contributions effectively impact their local areas. Organizations must align their requests with these focus areas and be located near a Dot Foods facility to be eligible.

Dot Foods’ Charitable Grant Program supports 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, and government entities with grants of $500 or more. The program emphasizes community development, diversity and inclusion, education, health and wellness, and public safety. Organizations must be located near Dot Foods facilities and align their requests with these focus areas. This initiative reflects Dot Foods’ commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves through active employee engagement and local charitable efforts.

The BNSF Railway Foundation provides grants to enhance community quality of life across 28 states, focusing on educational, cultural, and social service initiatives. With over $150 million contributed since 2000, the foundation emphasizes projects with strong local engagement and BNSF employee involvement. Eligible organizations include public charities, local governments, and tribal governments, while ineligible entities encompass religious organizations and those with discriminatory practices. Priority is given to environmental, health, and cultural projects.

EMC Health Foundation Grant

The grants shall be used to fund direct healthcare services, wellness programs, health research, health education, and public/private partnerships formed to improve the health of the residents in the EMCHF community.

EMC Health Foundation will provide funding and technical support for nonprofit programs to create healthcare solutions within Stanislaus and Merced counties.
