South Jersey nonprofits are vital in fostering equitable and thriving communities for all, yet they are facing unprecedented challenges.

These organizations feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture residents across diverse demographics. As demand for their services continues to grow, funding has become more uncertain, impacting their ability to meet community needs fully.

South Jersey nonprofits urgently need support at a time when their role is more crucial than ever.

CFSJ and its partners have established the South Jersey Resiliency Fund to enable individuals and organizations to pool resources to support nonprofits facing increased demands and reduced resources.

Apply to the South Jersey Resiliency Fund – Round Two

Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (or those operating with a fiscal sponsor), with an annual operating budget of $1,000,000 or less, that provide services tied directly to the well-being of South Jersey neighbors in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and/or Salem counties are eligible to apply for support in this second round. 

The grant application has been designed to request only the necessary information required to award a grant. In addition to basic organizational contact information, applicants will provide a brief overview of the services their organization offers, insight into the cause of the increased demand for them, and an explanation of the intended impact on the South Jersey community they serve.

For this second round, grant awards will be $10,000 and are expected to be expended within 12 months. We anticipate awarding a total of 25 to 30 grants in this round, and all grant recipients must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or partner with one to acquire funding.

For this second funding opportunity, the South Jersey Resiliency Fund’s priority is to provide one-time general operating and program support grants to eligible organizations to support their missions during this time of increased uncertainty and rising demand for services from the communities they serve. Grant funds will be unrestricted and flexible. Grant recipients may use funding to address wide-ranging organizational needs, including, but not limited to, program continuation, organizational capacity building, technology and system upgrades, scenario planning, and other emergent needs.

Due to the anticipated scale of need, these grants are intended to complement the efforts of trusted community partners, grassroots, and community-based organizations. They are not intended to be at a scale to support public institutions strained by increased demand for services and/or decreased government funding.

The Circuit Trails initiative aims to enhance the Greater Philadelphia area by adding 75 miles to the existing network by 2035. This expansion will promote outdoor access, improve health and well-being, and foster economic development through non-motorized transportation. With over 411 miles currently in place, the goal is to develop a comprehensive 850-mile network across communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey by 2040, supported by a diverse coalition of organizations.

The Community Greening Plans RFP aims to enhance urban green spaces, addressing inequitable access driven by historical discrimination. By involving communities in planning, the initiative seeks to improve physical and mental health while reducing crime and pollution. It emphasizes the importance of local engagement to prevent gentrification and displacement, ensuring that long-time residents benefit from green investments. This approach not only fosters a sense of belonging but also promotes sustainable urban development.

The Lois Lenski Covey Foundation offers Literacy Program Grants aimed at advancing literacy and fostering a love of reading among underserved children. Grants support innovative programs in regions including Baltimore, New York City, and San Francisco, with amounts ranging from $2,000 to $10,000. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) charities and schools. The foundation encourages new ideas and partnerships, prioritizing programs that engage children through regular interaction with skilled staff.

The Pathways to Recovery - Round 2 NGO grant aims to support individuals impacted by the opioid epidemic through training, career services, and employment opportunities. It will award funds to five organizations across New Jersey's North, Central, and South regions. The initiative focuses on enhancing workforce readiness and providing essential supportive services, fostering effective transitions to employment over a 24-month period starting June 1, 2025.

The PSEG Foundation provides funding for events and initiatives that enhance community safety and environmental stewardship in areas where they operate, such as New Jersey and New York. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits that align with the foundation's focus areas, including sustainable neighborhoods and safety preparedness. The application process is rolling, with a response time of 8 to 12 weeks. Proposals must be submitted online between January 1 and October 31, at least eight weeks before the event.

The Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Grant supports excellence in education and assists distressed individuals in the Greater Philadelphia area, established by Christian R. Lindback's testamentary gift. Since 1961, the foundation has honored outstanding faculty with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and partners with the School District of Philadelphia to recognize exemplary public school educators. The Foundation prioritizes discretionary grants for projects that can be accomplished in a brief timeframe.

The Delaware River Watershed Protection Fund provides Transaction Grants to support early-stage forest land protection projects. These grants cover essential costs such as appraisals and environmental assessments, facilitating timely funding within two weeks of approval. With a cap of $25,000, these grants ensure that critical projects aimed at preserving the watershed's ecological integrity can progress, ultimately benefiting the drinking water supply and biodiversity for millions in the region.

The Enbridge Safe Community First Responder Program is designed to support emergency response organizations across Canada and the U.S. by providing grants for safety equipment, training, and educational programs. Launched in 2002, it has invested over $22 million in enhancing community safety. Eligible organizations include fire departments and medical services located near Enbridge operations. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $10,000, helping improve the capabilities of first responders in rural and underserved areas.

The Charlotte Cushman Foundation Grant supports qualified non-profit theaters in the Greater Philadelphia area, providing funding for actors' salaries in specific staged productions. Organizations must hold 501(c)(3) status and can only receive funding for one production per calendar year. Proposals are due two months prior to the performance date, ensuring timely support for innovative theater projects, especially those adapting to new performance venues due to circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic.

The William Penn Foundation's Arts and Culture Programming aims to enhance access to diverse high-quality arts experiences for all Philadelphians. With a focus on inclusivity and equity, this initiative invites proposals for projects that address historic inequities in arts access and engage communities through performances and exhibitions. Organizations with less than $750,000 in annual expenses are encouraged to apply for funding to support innovative and welcoming arts initiatives that enrich the cultural landscape through 2035.

The Center for Scholarship Administration

The Center for Scholarship Administration (CSA) provides corporations, foundations, trust funds, and individual philanthropists scholarship selection and administration management that is experienced, professional, and cost efficient while lending the program an integrity not inherent in internal selection committees.

Francis, Elizabeth, and Edward Roger Welsh Scholarship

The Francis, Elizabeth, and Edward Roger Welsh Scholarship is providing scholarships for deserving students. The Center for Scholarship Administration, Inc. (CSA), a non-profit, independent organization is the facilitator of the scholarship fund.

May attend or plan to attend a Catholic elementary, middle or high school located in Camden County, New Jersey.

This scholarship is for one year only; however, current recipients may reapply and be considered for additional funding along with other new applicants. Renewal is not guaranteed and students will be included in the pool of scholarship applicants.

With a total of $6 million available, the Foundation seeks proposals that foster equity and accessibility in the arts, benefiting diverse audiences through innovative design and community engagement.

The William Penn Foundation aims to enhance arts education for young people aged 5-18 in the Greater Philadelphia area through the Out-of-School Community-Based Arts Education Programs. The Community Heroes Grant by Impact100 South Jersey aims to empower smaller nonprofits with operating budgets under $500,000. This program complements the larger Core Mission grant, ensuring that more organizations can receive vital support for their operations.

Honda’s Community Event Sponsorship aims to support local, regional, and national events that enhance community engagement and celebrate diverse cultures. Organizations must be U.S.-based and tax-exempt, focusing on projects that serve communities where Honda associates are active. Eligible events include parades, festivals, and educational initiatives. Honda evaluates requests based on community needs and available funding, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and community enhancement.

The Enbridge Community Grant aims to enhance the quality of life in North American communities through strategic donations and sponsorships. With funding ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, the grant supports organizations focused on safety, education, environmental stewardship, and Indigenous culture. Enbridge encourages early applications, with decisions typically made within eight weeks. The grant seeks to empower local initiatives that foster community strength, vibrancy, and sustainability.

The Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation Direct Grants program provides support to non-profit organizations in focus areas including STEM education, sustainable construction, and workforce development. The foundation aims to foster community development and environmental stewardship. Eligible applicants include IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) organizations and accredited educational institutions in the U.S. The Foundation prioritizes partnerships that allow employee involvement and volunteer support, aiming to build meaningful relationships with grantees.

International Paper Grants focus on community engagement, emphasizing education, hunger relief, health & wellness, and disaster relief. They support nonprofit organizations that demonstrate good financial standing and effective management. Eligible organizations must operate in areas where International Paper has facilities. The foundation prioritizes local needs, particularly critical and environmental issues, while encouraging employee involvement. Ineligible entities include private foundations and those without a local presence. Applications are accepted through mid-September in the U.S. and Canada.

Focused on health and human services, the grant encourages projects that address community needs, foster self-reliance, and promote civic engagement. With a commitment to philanthropic impact, funding is reserved for organizations demonstrating 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and a proven need, while maintaining strict eligibility criteria to ensure effective resource allocation.

The Future Fund Grant, offered by the Bread & Roses Community Fund, provides $5,000 to emerging groups in Philadelphia focused on social justice and community organizing. It aims to support those challenging power imbalances and fostering sustainable change. Eligible applicants must meet specific criteria, including being a designated 501(c)(3) organization. While the fund champions innovative activism, it does not support direct service work or traditional educational programs. Applications are not currently accepted for 2025.

The Racial & Economic Justice Fund Grant offers $10,000 to organizations dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice through community organizing. The fund seeks groups that prioritize justice in their mission, employ strategies for social change, and are led by those most impacted by injustice. Eligible organizations must be based in specified counties and meet IRS criteria. Their commitment is evident through employee volunteerism and financial contributions, ensuring stronger community ties. This program primarily supports Univest customers, reinforcing the belief that a strong business is rooted in a thriving community.

The Union Home Foundation Grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that promote economic self-sufficiency through financial literacy and housing initiatives. Established in 2015, this grant has awarded over $2 million to various nonprofits across the U.S. Grants typically start at $1,000 and are available for a one-year period. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and can only apply once per year, following specific eligibility criteria.
