South Jersey Resiliency Fund

Strengthening & Sustaining South Jersey’s Nonprofit Sector

South Jersey nonprofits are vital in fostering equitable and thriving communities for all, yet they are facing unprecedented challenges.

These organizations feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture residents across diverse demographics. As demand for their services continues to grow, funding has become more uncertain, impacting their ability to meet community needs fully.

South Jersey nonprofits urgently need support at a time when their role is more crucial than ever.

CFSJ and its partners have established the South Jersey Resiliency Fund to enable individuals and organizations to pool resources to support nonprofits facing increased demands and reduced resources.

Apply to the South Jersey Resiliency Fund – Round Two

Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (or those operating with a fiscal sponsor), with an annual operating budget of $1,000,000 or less, that provide services tied directly to the well-being of South Jersey neighbors in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and/or Salem counties are eligible to apply for support in this second round. 

The grant application has been designed to request only the necessary information required to award a grant. In addition to basic organizational contact information, applicants will provide a brief overview of the services their organization offers, insight into the cause of the increased demand for them, and an explanation of the intended impact on the South Jersey community they serve.

For this second round, grant awards will be $10,000 and are expected to be expended within 12 months. We anticipate awarding a total of 25 to 30 grants in this round, and all grant recipients must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or partner with one to acquire funding.

For this second funding opportunity, the South Jersey Resiliency Fund’s priority is to provide one-time general operating and program support grants to eligible organizations to support their missions during this time of increased uncertainty and rising demand for services from the communities they serve. Grant funds will be unrestricted and flexible. Grant recipients may use funding to address wide-ranging organizational needs, including, but not limited to, program continuation, organizational capacity building, technology and system upgrades, scenario planning, and other emergent needs.

Due to the anticipated scale of need, these grants are intended to complement the efforts of trusted community partners, grassroots, and community-based organizations. They are not intended to be at a scale to support public institutions strained by increased demand for services and/or decreased government funding.

JCF Scholarship Awards are available for all students pursuing post-high school education and who are enrolled (or plan to enroll) in full-time studies for the Fall 2026 school year or for experiential travel in the upcoming year.

Who May Apply for JCF Scholarship Awards?

• Local Residents: An applicant's home residence must be in Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester County ("B/C/G County) in Southern New Jersey, but noting the following exceptions:
  • Stuart & Marylee Alperin Jewish Communal Service Professional Development Award: Must be a B/C/G County resident OR reside elsewhere in Southern New Jersey;
  • Jewish War Veterans Post 126 Award: Applicant may live outside the B/C/G County area, but is a child or grandchild of a JWV Post 126 member in good standing;
  • Col. David Marcus Memorial Award: Priority will be given to B/C/G County residents

• Candidates Who Qualify Based on Award Criteria: To determine which award(s) to apply for, a prospective applicant should review each award's criteria, and apply accordingly. Note that criteria can vary per award based on such requirements as an applicant's age, merit vs. financial need, gender, etc. Most, but not all, awards are for applicants of Jewish faith. An applicant may apply to multiple awards each year.
• Reapplying: Each award is for a one-year time period. Applicants may reapply in subsequent years to any JCF award for which they qualify.

Valerie Gladfelter Scholarship Award

The Valerie Gladfelter Scholarship Award is for Jewish girls and women residing in Burlington, Camden or Gloucester Counties who plan to enroll or are currently enrolled in a college or university degree-related program.

The Secular Distribution Grant supports charitable activities aimed at enhancing community well-being, particularly within 100 miles of Coatesville, PA. Focused on health and human services, the grant encourages projects that address community needs, foster self-reliance, and promote civic engagement. With a commitment to philanthropic impact, funding is reserved for organizations demonstrating 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and a proven need, while maintaining strict eligibility criteria to ensure effective resource allocation.

The National Estuary Program Watersheds Grant Program, administered by Restore America’s Estuaries and supported by the EPA, funds competitive projects addressing critical threats to estuaries. Key priorities include habitat restoration, enhancing coastal resilience against extreme weather, managing nutrient impacts, and mitigating stormwater runoff. Established in 1987, the program aims to improve ecological integrity and water quality in 28 estuaries nationwide, providing essential funding and guidance to local initiatives.

The Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Grant supports excellence in education and assists distressed individuals in the Greater Philadelphia area, established by Christian R. Lindback's testamentary gift. Since 1961, the foundation has honored outstanding faculty with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and partners with the School District of Philadelphia to recognize exemplary public school educators. The Foundation prioritizes discretionary grants for projects that can be accomplished in a brief timeframe.

Pathways to Opportunity: Supporting Young Adult Workforce Development in Greater Philadelphia Program

As part of this commitment, Philadelphia Foundation is launching a new grant program to build new partnerships with workforce development providers with strong outcomes to help build a more connected workforce and opportunity ecosystem across the region.

PF's initial focus is on supporting young adults' access to high-demand, good-paying jobs that do not require a college degree through investments in gold-standard workforce development training providers. These programs have documented returns on investment and strong employer partnerships in priority sectors, such as skilled trades, technology, and non-clinical life sciences.

The purpose of this RFI is to gather information on promising models, gaps, and trends in young adult workforce development providers in Greater Philadelphia. The information from the RFI will be used to inform future Philadelphia Foundation grantmaking.

A subset of the organizations that respond to this RFI will be invited to submit an application for funding.

Workforce development training and bridge providers serving young adults across Greater Philadelphia. Our interst is not limited to a specific industry, but there is a particular interest in sectors like skilled and industrial trades, non-clinical life sciences, and tech.

The PNC Arts Alive initiative, launched by the PNC Foundation, is a transformative program aimed at enhancing access to the visual and performing arts across Greater Philadelphia, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey. With over $15 million granted since 2009, it supports diverse artistic endeavors, benefiting over 2 million community members. The Migrant Education Program-Continuation supports eligible children of migratory farm workers and fishers in Gloucester County. This program aims to provide educational resources and services to reduce learning gaps caused by frequent relocations. Key services include student identification, record transfers, and supplemental instruction. The program is a continuation grant, with funding available for the second year of a three-year initiative, running from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with a maximum funding amount of $960,825.

The Center for Scholarship Administration

The Center for Scholarship Administration (CSA) provides corporations, foundations, trust funds, and individual philanthropists scholarship selection and administration management that is experienced, professional, and cost efficient while lending the program an integrity not inherent in internal selection committees.

Francis, Elizabeth, and Edward Roger Welsh Scholarship

The Francis, Elizabeth, and Edward Roger Welsh Scholarship is providing scholarships for deserving students. The Center for Scholarship Administration, Inc. (CSA), a non-profit, independent organization is the facilitator of the scholarship fund.

May attend or plan to attend a Catholic elementary, middle or high school located in Camden County, New Jersey.

This scholarship is for one year only; however, current recipients may reapply and be considered for additional funding along with other new applicants. Scholarship recipients may attend or plan to attend a Catholic elementary, middle or high school located in Camden County, New Jersey. Students must reapply for additional scholarship awards. Renewal is not guaranteed and students will be included in the pool of scholarship applicants.

The Sustainable Communities Grant Program, funded by Atlantic City Electric and Sustainable Jersey, aims to enhance environmental stewardship in New Jersey. With a total of $35,000 available, the program will award five grants of $5,000 each to municipalities for projects that improve public spaces, such as parks and natural areas. This initiative supports sustainability efforts and empowers communities to create a healthier environment for future generations.

The Sustainable Communities Grant Program - Resiliency Grants aims to empower New Jersey municipalities by providing $35,000 in funding from Atlantic City Electric for environmental stewardship and resiliency projects. Grants of $5,000 will be awarded to support initiatives that enhance community capacity to prevent and respond to emergencies. This program works collaboratively with Sustainable Jersey to build a sustainable future through proven best practices, training, and financial incentives.

Creative & Performing Arts

The Pincus Family Foundation’s Creative and Performing Arts portfolio supports programs where young people use art as a tool to address the structural inequities they face. Five strategic priorities:

• Arts for Social Change Focus – Integrating artistic practice with community organizing, policy advocacy, and/or systemic change efforts
• Hyperlocal Community Integration – Deep community embedment with extensive local partnerships
• Teaching Artist Investment – Commitment to the professional development and well-being of teaching artists
• Cultural Responsiveness – Programming that incorporates community cultural wealth with community input
• Environmental Justice Integration – Authentic integration of environmental themes from community-identified priorities

Target Constituency: Organizations serving preK-12 youth from marginalized communities with arts for social change programming that connects them to the power of art to question and transform systems.

Education

High school readiness for many low-income students, largely is a result of poor preparation in middle school. PFF is funding programs/projects that support middle school engagement and focus on achievement filling a funding gap. 

Target Constituency: We support non-profit organizations serving middle school students who face gaps in comprehensive high school readiness. These organizations implement innovative programming that creates challenging yet nurturing environments—preparing students for achievement while inspiring them to become engaged, confident citizens ready to contribute to their communities.

Health & Wellness

Goal: Advance children’s health and well-being by supporting nonprofits that strengthen social conditions, empower youth, and build healthier environments in marginalized communities.

Target Constituency: Nonprofits whose work strengthens social determinants of health for children in marginalized communities.

Play & Recreation

Goal: Advance children’s social-emotional development and physical well-being by supporting nonprofits that create inclusive play-based programming, competitive sports opportunities, and outdoor recreational experiences in under-resourced communities.

Target Constituency: Non-profits whose work promotes access to quality recreational programming for children ages 6-18 in under-resourced communities.

For all grants, the organization’s mission and scope must align with the Foundation’s mission. For the latter, these grants can be either unrestricted or restricted to a particular program or project. The type of grant and what it is used for will dictate the goals and objectives to be met.

The Impact100 South Jersey Grants: Core Mission Grant empowers women to collectively fund high-impact projects in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, and Cumberland counties. By uniting over 100 women who contribute $1,000 each, the initiative aims to grant a minimum of $100,000 annually to vetted local organizations. Focus areas include women, children, families, education, and community health, supporting transformative projects that enhance community well-being and organizational capacity.

The Alvah & Doris Veit Foundation Academic Grant aims to support Camden, NJ high school graduates pursuing engineering degrees. Established in 2011, this charitable foundation awards grants based on proposals, with a median size of $5,000. Eligible applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and community involvement. Grant funds can be used for tuition and educational materials, with applications reviewed quarterly. The foundation is dedicated to fostering academic achievement and community improvement among local students.

The Delaware River Watershed Protection Fund provides Transaction Grants to support early-stage forest land protection projects. These grants cover essential costs such as appraisals and environmental assessments, facilitating timely funding within two weeks of approval. With a cap of $25,000, these grants ensure that critical projects aimed at preserving the watershed's ecological integrity can progress, ultimately benefiting the drinking water supply and biodiversity for millions in the region.

The Hamilton Family Charitable Trust Grant supports educational initiatives in Philadelphia and surrounding counties, focusing on children and youth. The Trust prioritizes programs that improve literacy and provide equitable educational opportunities. Grants, capped at $25,000, are available for first-time applicants and require 501(c)(3) status verification. Organizations must demonstrate effective use of funds, including audited financial statements and IRS Form 990 submission. The Trust seeks to enhance lives through community-driven educational projects.

The Union Home Foundation Grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that promote economic self-sufficiency through financial literacy and housing initiatives. Established in 2015, this grant has awarded over $2 million to various nonprofits across the U.S. Grants typically start at $1,000 and are available for a one-year period. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and can only apply once per year, following specific eligibility criteria.

The William Penn Foundation is dedicated to enhancing public spaces in the Greater Philadelphia region through strategic funding. With a focus on fostering community engagement, improving safety, and ensuring equitable access, the foundation aims to support projects that activate and diversify public spaces. Grants will prioritize organizations with budgets under $1 million and those led by historically marginalized groups. The foundation has $4.5 million available for this initiative, encouraging collaborative proposals that leverage community strengths.

The New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Community Health Services (DCHS), Community Health and Wellness Unit is pleased to release the Request for Applications (RFA) to eligible organizations interested in implementing the Childhood and Adult Asthma Program (CAAP). Applicants will be required to serve all designated municipalities and counties within their selected scope. A total of two (2) grant will be awarded.

The Childhood and Adult Asthma Program (CAAP) aim is to reduce the prevalence of asthma attacks and asthma related deaths in both children and adults by increasing asthma awareness and reduce disparities through comprehensive evidence-based strategies.

The Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund, initiated in 2018, aims to enhance ecosystems in the Delaware River watershed through grants supporting habitat restoration and water quality improvement. With $72.1 million awarded to 239 projects, it has significantly impacted over 26 miles of riparian habitat and 77 miles of stream habitat, along with conserving 1,176 acres of wetlands. This initiative, funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, also emphasizes outdoor recreation and community vitality in the region.

The Education & Leadership Impact Grants by BLBB Charitable support nonprofit organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area, focusing on college access, economic self-sufficiency, K-12 educational opportunities, and environmental education. Grants over $15,000 are available for multi-year projects aimed at enhancing the lives of disadvantaged youth. Eligible nonprofits must have filed at least two consecutive Form 990s and cannot be public or charter schools. Contact the foundation for guidance before submitting a request.

The Local Public Health Overdose Fatality Review Teams Grant Program, administered by the New Jersey Department of Health, aims to enhance public health responses to overdose fatalities. This initiative will provide $75,000 to 20 local health departments to support their established review teams. These teams will analyze overdose cases, identify systemic gaps, and devise strategies to mitigate future overdoses, ultimately working towards reducing overdose-related deaths in their communities.

The Community Voices Fund, established by the People’s Media Fund, supports innovative media projects that amplify marginalized voices in Greater Philadelphia. Prioritizing community-driven narratives, the Fund awards grants ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 to support storytelling efforts that challenge systemic oppression and promote social justice. Eligible applicants include 501(c)3 organizations with annual budgets under $1 million, focusing on projects that enhance community organizing and movement-building efforts.
