From natural areas to working lands, our approach to land conservation emphasizes climate resilience, inclusivity, and effective advocacy. We offer a wide array of support, including multiyear general operating grants, project grants, and technical assistance.

Chicago Region Land Conservation Grants

We offer general operating and project grants to organizations that further natural and working land protection and stewardship in the greater Chicago region, with emphasis on integrating climate resiliency, advocacy, and inclusive conservation strategies. ​

Grant Award Ranges

The amount and duration of grant awards are influenced by the organization’s/project’s level of impact on strategic land conservation efforts in the region, organizational/project size and budget, and the organization’s demonstrated leadership in advancing the core objectives of the Foundation’s land conservation strategy.

Primary Goals of the Foundation’s Chicago Region Land Conservation Strategy

• Strategic Natural and Working Land Conservation: We aim to support organizations and projects advancing natural and working land protection and stewardship in strategically significant areas across the Chicagoland region that provide both ecological and quality-of-life benefits. Examples include wetland restoration in flood-prone communities, habitat connectivity improvements, and conservation easements on priority natural areas and agricultural land.

• Conservation that Integrates Climate Resilience: We support an increased emphasis on incorporating climate resilience considerations in all land conservation programs and projects. Examples include using resiliency prioritization in land acquisition and stewardship planning, protecting and restoring strategic parcels to increase habitat corridors, and working in vulnerable communities to mitigate climate and flooding impacts using land conservation and natural-focused green infrastructure strategies that deliver meaningful biodiversity and community benefits.

• Advocacy and Engagement Efforts: We believe that effective advocacy, public engagement, and communications strategies are critical to creating and enhancing land conservation programs and policies. Examples include efforts to develop new public conservation funding programs at the state and local level, in addition to engagement on proposed land use activities or conservation policies that could impact land protection efforts at scale in the region.

• Inclusive Conservation that Benefits All People: We want to increase the relevance and reach of land conservation work by supporting inclusive efforts that provide both biodiversity and human quality of life benefits for the diverse communities across the region. Examples include direct support of or meaningful engagement with community-based organizations to ensure that land conservation and resiliency efforts serve the needs of historically disinvested communities.

The ASHP Foundation offers Professional Advancement Scholarships to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and graduating pharmacy students for attending national meetings. Supported by the Sara J. White Leadership Fund, up to 10 pharmacists can receive full meeting registration and $1,000 for travel to the ASHP Conference for Leaders on October 6-7, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. Eligibility includes being a licensed pharmacist with 5-10 years of experience in a mid-level management role.

The Lumpkin Family Foundation's Austin Fresh Grants program, initiated in 2020, focuses on enhancing access to healthy, affordable food in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. This collaborative effort supports community gardens, local food production, and food assistance programs, aiming to promote equity and sustainability. With a commitment of at least $1 million annually for five years, the program empowers local solutions and addresses food access barriers, fostering community-driven initiatives for a healthier future.

The Robinson Foundation Grant, established in 2016, aims to alleviate hardships faced by individuals and communities, demonstrating God's love through charitable contributions. As a family-operated foundation, it focuses on creating meaningful, long-term impacts in various areas including animal welfare, education, and disaster relief. Organizations eligible for funding must be 501(c)(3) public charities. The foundation prioritizes fiscally responsible projects with the potential for tangible results, while not supporting capital projects.

The Mead Montgomery Charity Care Grant, facilitated by the Elea Institute, aims to provide essential hospice and palliative care services to patients lacking insurance or financial means. With a focus on integrity, quality, and equitable access, this grant honors Mead Montgomery's legacy of compassion and leadership. The program offers funding for up to two years, supporting organizations that demonstrate financial responsibility and commitment to improving end-of-life care across designated counties in Illinois.

The TJX Foundation Grants support nonprofit organizations located within 15 miles of a TJX store that align with their community mission. Eligible areas include basic needs, education for at-risk youth, workforce training, and safety from domestic violence. Ameriprise Community Grants focus on supporting nonprofits that enhance community vitality and meet basic needs. With over 120 years of commitment to philanthropy, Ameriprise Financial engages employees in volunteerism and grantmaking. Key giving areas include hunger relief, housing stability, and community development. Priority is given to organizations with active volunteer engagement from Ameriprise advisors and employees, creating a meaningful impact on financial independence and community resilience.

The Chicago Commitment: Culture, Equity, and the Arts Grant aims to foster racial equity and inclusivity in Chicago by investing in diverse organizations that utilize arts and culture as a means of community engagement. This program provides flexible funding to support organizations with operating budgets over $1 million, enabling them to explore new ideas and maintain stability. The grant prioritizes projects that reflect the unique voices of Chicago's communities and address systemic barriers faced by marginalized groups.

The Community Ties Giving Program by Union Pacific Foundation offers local grants aimed at enhancing community well-being through diverse funding priorities. These include safety initiatives, workforce development, community vitality, and environmental sustainability. The program emphasizes supporting organizations that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, aiming to create impactful projects that resonate with Union Pacific's heritage and mission. Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations serving Union Pacific communities and demonstrate a clear need and capacity to deliver effective programming.

The True Inspiration Awards, established by Chick-fil-A in 2015, recognizes nonprofit organizations that significantly impact their communities. In 2025, the program will distribute $6 million in grants, ranging from $30,000 to $350,000, to sixteen selected organizations. Categories include Caring for People, Caring through Food, Community, and Caring for our Planet, with a focus on educational initiatives, food security, housing services, and environmental stewardship, honoring the legacy of founder S. Truett Cathy.
