Grants

Through our grantmaking, we support nonprofits that serve South Carolina at local, regional and state levels to address root causes of poverty while honoring the dignity of every South Carolinian.

Starting in 2026, our grants focus primarily on systems change in the areas of

• economic mobility,
• housing security and
• health care (with health care systems change grants by invitation only).

By focusing our efforts and going deeper on these three issues, we aim to have an even greater impact on the nonprofits and communities we serve.

Systems Change Grants

Systems Change Grants fund organizations and coalitions that are working to change the policies, power structures and mindsets that cause and reinforce poverty in South Carolina. These grants specifically fund systems change that supports economic mobility and housing security.

Through these grants, we aim to generate a larger impact through more intentional funding, highly focused work and alignment across our Foundation’s activities.

What Systems Change Grants Support

• Organizations that are actively working on systems change that impacts people experiencing poverty and addresses economic mobility or housing security. To see how the Foundation defines these terms, visit our Strategic Plan webpage.
• Organizations that are seeking to change systems at the local, regional or state level. Systems Change Grants provide up to $75,000 annually for local or regional work.
  • State-level grants have a $100,000 maximum each year. 
• Organizations addressing systems change in at least one of the following ways:
  • Participating in advocacy and lobbying
    • Focus on changing policies, practices, processes, rules or laws
    • Impacting resource flows (i.e., reallocated and/or new funding streams)
    • Holding systems accountable to their intended purpose through the above as well as through litigation
  • Addressing unequal power
    • Focus on changing the distribution and dynamics of privilege, relationships and tradition
    • Organizing and building connections and coalitions that center community voices and perspectives
    • Civic engagement
  • Affirming the dignity of people experiencing poverty
    • Focus on changing the narrative around poverty
    • Focus on changing attitudes, mindsets, values, belief systems, norms, mental models and paradigms
  • Implementing big impact, scalable, or innovative solutions
    • Focus on changing results, especially for groups experiencing inequitable outcomes as a result of historic and current marginalization

All grants are for one year, with the possibility of renewal up to three years based on meeting reporting requirements and the availability of funding.

About Us

Wisconsin’s smallest cabinet agency makes a tremendous impact. At one half of one percent of the state budget and one half of one percent of the state workforce, the Department of Tourism markets Wisconsin as one of America’s premier travel destinations under the brand name Travel Wisconsin, supporting an industry that makes up more than 7 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.

Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant Program

The Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant Program offers funding to make a promotion or event come to fruition. The grant reimburses Wisconsin nonprofit organizations for qualified promotional costs. There are five categories of JEM grants.

One Time/One-of-a-Kind Events

• These projects publicize an event of major significance that has the potential to generate media coverage at least throughout the Midwest.

The Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant Program supports Wisconsin nonprofit organizations by funding promotional activities that boost tourism. Grants cover eligible expenses for sales promotions that entice visitors through significant incentives over a limited timeframe. Applications must demonstrate potential economic impact and include participating businesses. The maximum award is $39,550, with reimbursements based on project costs. This initiative aims to enhance local economies while promoting Wisconsin as a premier travel destination.

The Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant Program supports Wisconsin nonprofit organizations in launching new events that stimulate local tourism and economic growth. Eligible projects must be innovative, generate increased visitor traffic, and have a funding strategy for future sustainability. Grants can cover up to 75% of promotional costs in the first year, with a maximum award of $39,550. This program is a vital resource for communities aiming to enhance their economic impact through strategic marketing initiatives.

The Catalyst Grant Program, managed by the Amarillo Area Foundation, supports small grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 for nonprofit organizations with limited grant experience. This program simplifies the application process, ensuring accessibility for all-volunteer groups. A committee of local residents reviews applications, providing valuable feedback regardless of funding outcomes. Eligible applicants must serve the northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle and hold a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Proposals are limited to one per year per organization.

The Bruening Foundation aims to improve quality of life in Cuyahoga County by investing proactively in early childhood development.

We know that economic adversity experienced early in life compromises brain development, health and earnings over a lifetime. The ages between 0-3 are the critical years. This short window of time is our opportunity to disrupt the consequences of poverty, both for the potential of the child and the continued success of our city. We support efforts targeted to young children with the understanding that the benefits of social and educational interventions are strongest in the earliest years.

With no children of their own, Eva and Joseph Bruening viewed the children of Cleveland as their legacy and felt they had a responsibility to care for those in need. They strongly believed in the importance of building hope in their community by alleviating the roots of poverty.

That mission continues to influence the Bruening Foundation’s focus today. We invest in efforts to improve overall quality of life by empowering economically disadvantaged individuals to navigate through life with dignity and to gain greater personal and economic security and self sufficiency. Our grantmaking priorities reflect an interest in helping families out of poverty through improved education, access to long-term benefits and connections to employment

At the Bruening Foundation, we are thinking about how to address poverty in our community. We are part of the community conversation and learning about best practices to lift families out of poverty. We support grantees that are doing important programming and changing the course for families living in poverty. That is the Bruening way.

BGE Charitable Contributions supports community enhancement through focused corporate giving in four key areas: building Exelon's future workforce, energy empowerment, local vitality enrichment, and equal access to arts and culture. By investing in diverse nonprofit organizations, BGE aims to create sustainable improvements in education, environmental conservation, and cultural access, fostering an inclusive environment that reflects the values and needs of the communities it serves.

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund aims to enhance economic development by funding public infrastructure and workforce training projects across the state. This program, overseen by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and Enterprise Florida, Inc., encourages proposals that promote economic recovery and diversification while ensuring public benefit. Eligible entities must submit proposals that serve the community's infrastructure needs, fostering growth and development in targeted industries.

The United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Grant offers funding extensions for existing programs through June 2025, focusing on community improvement. Established in 1920, this organization partners with various sectors to enhance quality of life. Their mission mobilizes resources to support individuals and families, aiming for academic success, health independence, and workforce readiness. Grants range from $1,500 to $116,000, with a minimum request of $7,500 for the 2022-2024 cycle. Eligibility is limited to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits.

The Lenna Foundation provides grants to charitable organizations, primarily in the southwestern New York area. They focus on arts, education, healthcare, youth, economic development, and environmental initiatives. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations. The foundation emphasizes program funding and capital project grants to support non-profit efforts that benefit the community, particularly in the greater Jamestown area.

The Gebbie Foundation Grant aims to revitalize downtown Jamestown through strategic economic development initiatives, guided by the Jamestown Urban Design Plan. With funding for fiscal year 2025 being limited, applicants must submit a 1-2 page Letter of Inquiry. Eligible organizations must have 501(c)(3) status and focus on enhancing the downtown area. The foundation supports matching, challenge, and operating funds to foster community revitalization efforts.

The Stark Community Foundation's Community Responsive Grants Program aims to strengthen the nonprofit community by addressing significant local needs through ongoing funding opportunities. Organizations eligible for grants include tax-exempt agencies and local government entities in Stark County. Applications are reviewed continuously, with no specific deadlines, fostering adaptability to community changes. Ideal proposals demonstrate local support and sustainability, ensuring impactful contributions to community welfare.

The HPM Foundation offers substantial financial support, granting $100,000 annually to local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. This initiative aims to empower and uplift communities by funding various projects and services. Recent beneficiaries include organizations such as the American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity, and the Hawaii Island Food Basket. Through these contributions, the foundation fosters collaboration and strengthens the local nonprofit sector, ensuring vital resources are available to those in need.

The Tucker County Grant offers funding of $500 or less to support organizations and individuals making a positive impact in the community. This grant, administered by the Tucker Community Foundation, is available to those with a valid 501(c)3 tax status or those who can demonstrate charitable intent. It aims to foster innovation and uplift communities by providing essential resources for various projects.

The Tucker County Community Foundation Grant supports various organizations, volunteer groups, and individuals aiming to make a positive impact in the region. Annually, over 50 grants are awarded, funded by generous donors contributing to endowed and unrestricted funds. Nonprofit organizations may apply through a general grant application, with no cap on requested funds. However, requests exceeding $5,000 require detailed tracking and reporting plans to ensure accountability and transparency.

The Peoples Bank Foundation Grant aims to create a significant impact in local communities by providing financial support to nonprofit organizations. With over 20 years of service, the foundation has awarded more than $7.5 million in grants and scholarships across several states. It prioritizes initiatives that assist low to moderate-income individuals and families, encouraging organizations within its footprint to apply for funding to enhance their community-focused programs.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) offers the Organizational Support Grant to enhance the capacity of local organizations dedicated to improving water quality, wildlife, and cultural resources in the Lake Champlain Basin. With over 1,000 grants awarded since 1992, the LCBP fosters partnerships among diverse communities and stakeholders, enabling them to implement critical pollution prevention and habitat restoration initiatives. This grant aims to support these efforts for a healthier and more engaged community, ensuring the preservation of this vital natural resource.

The Charles Koch Foundation invites innovative proposals for research that aligns with its vision of social progress and mutual benefit. Focused on supporting 501(c)(3) non-profit public charities and universities in the U.S., the Foundation emphasizes original projects of high standards. While it welcomes a broad range of ideas, it typically does not fund for-profit ventures, overhead costs, or certain areas like medical treatment and political activities.

Kaiser Permanente's Washington Region offers sponsorships to nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies that align with its mission to improve community health. With a focus on sustainability, equity, and relationship-building, the program evaluates proposals based on their potential to create lasting value and positive exposure. Ineligible requests include support for religious activities, political campaigns, or individual medical funding, ensuring that resources are directed towards community-driven initiatives that enhance public health.

The Yukon Foundation Project Grants support various initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of Yukoners. Established in 1980, the foundation has grown significantly and now administers over $8 million in scholarships and grants. The grants focus on educational advancement, cultural preservation, and community well-being, encouraging projects that benefit the local population and promote sustainable development. This funding is essential for fostering growth and leadership among Yukoners in diverse fields.

The Pre-Development Fund Grant aims to empower neighborhood-scale development in underinvested areas of Cook County, focusing on projects that promote economic growth and enhance community well-being. This initiative supports organizations in executing pre-development activities crucial for securing further funding, fostering local wealth-building, and revitalizing neighborhoods. By prioritizing community-driven projects, the Trust seeks to create equitable opportunities for residents, ensuring that development aligns with local needs and aspirations.

The CICF Glick Fund, established by Gene and Marilyn Glick in 1998, provides grants to nonprofit organizations in Central Indiana. With over $85 million awarded through more than 1,000 grants, this fund focuses on building community and creating opportunities for individuals to thrive. Glick Philanthropies prioritizes affordable housing, education, and cultural enrichment, working closely with local organizations to ensure equitable access to resources and support for the community.

The CICF-Indianapolis Foundation Competitive Grants empower local nonprofits to foster community growth and address critical issues like housing, health, and economic mobility. By offering funding up to $75,000, this initiative encourages innovative solutions and collaboration among organizations dedicated to equity and lasting impact in Marion County. Eligible nonprofits can apply for one grant per year, ensuring a focused approach to uplift community welfare and drive social change effectively.

The Ottawa County Community Foundation Inc supports charitable programs through its Community Grants, addressing needs in education, health, social services, and the arts. Nonprofit organizations in Ottawa County can apply for funding to promote efficient resource use and enhance community quality of life. Grants prioritize innovative solutions and long-term benefits for residents, ensuring a sustainable impact aligned with the Foundation's mission of 'Doing Good. Forever'.

The Jasper Community Foundation Grant supports projects that enhance the quality of life in Jasper County, Iowa. Established in 1997, the foundation provides funding for arts, education, health, environment, and community activities. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt non-profits or governmental entities. The foundation prioritizes innovative programs that serve broad populations and discourage duplication of existing services. Grants are awarded annually based on available funds, focusing on impactful community initiatives.

The City of Muskogee Foundation offers summer grants aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Muskogee through funding for nonprofit organizations, schools, and community projects. Established in 2008, the foundation prioritizes initiatives that promote education, arts, health, and economic development. Grants are awarded based on measurable outcomes and community needs, focusing on job creation, educational empowerment, and health initiatives.
