With our partners, the Community Foundation uses the tools of philanthropy to find solutions to pressing issues. We provide grants to support the work of nonprofits, scholarships to local students and other forms of support to communities working to eliminate barriers to opportunity, prosperity and belonging.

Scholarship Fund Details

Support for West Michigan Students

Attending college or trade school increases opportunity and opens doors to careers. Donor partners who establish a scholarship fund give students a boost on their path to higher education. Students who complete the general scholarship application are considered for these scholarships.

Open to graduate students who are 2+ year residents of Kent County attending college in the state of Michigan and with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The EDA Chicago FY 2016–FY 2019 Planning Program and Local Technical Assistance Program aims to enhance regional economic development through comprehensive planning and technical assistance. By supporting the development and implementation of Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS), EDA empowers designated organizations, including Indian Tribes, to create jobs and foster economic resilience in distressed areas. This initiative focuses on strategic investments to facilitate effective economic development practices, ensuring sustainable growth and prosperity across regions.

The Worthington Family Foundation Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to the arts and environmental initiatives benefiting children and young adults. Established in honor of Betty J. O'Leary, this foundation aims to carry on her legacy of intellectual curiosity and community service. Through its annual funding, it seeks to empower organizations that foster creativity and environmental stewardship, ensuring a positive impact on future generations.

The Great Lakes Stewardship Grant aims to enhance awareness and understanding of the Great Lakes' ecology, empowering residents to advocate for sustainable fisheries. This program invites proposals focused on place-based stewardship education, with a notable RFP planned for 2025, alongside another for fishing education. The next RFP for place-based education is set for release in 2027, ensuring ongoing support for community engagement and stewardship initiatives.

The Investigator Initiated Research Grant Program, offered by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, supports doctoral-level researchers addressing critical health-related research gaps. Eligible applicants include primary investigators with medical or doctoral-level credentials based in Michigan's nonprofit hospitals and universities. This program emphasizes evidence-based research to improve health outcomes while ensuring effective resource utilization, thereby enhancing healthcare access and quality for Michigan residents.

The Citizens Grants: Financial Empowerment program supports nonprofits focused on creating measurable impacts in financial education for low to moderate income individuals and small businesses. This grant emphasizes partnerships with established 501(c)(3) organizations and encourages collaborative efforts that demonstrate alignment with funding priorities. By investing in financial literacy, Citizens aims to enhance fiscal health in underserved communities across select geographic areas.

The Citizens Charitable Foundation offers grants focused on Workforce Development and Financial Empowerment. Organizations applying must be IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits located in specific states. The foundation seeks to partner with high-impact nonprofits to create measurable community impact through innovative programs. Funding is directed towards job training, career education, and coaching initiatives, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and volunteerism.

The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) offers Innovative Program Grants to enhance college readiness and completion among low-income and first-generation students across Michigan. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to support innovative initiatives that align with MCAN's goal of increasing postsecondary attainment to 60% by 2030. Applicants are encouraged to partner with Local College Access Networks, ensuring a comprehensive approach to community-based educational support.

The Encova Foundation of West Virginia is dedicated to improving communities by supporting local causes that align with the values of its associates and policyholders. They focus on health, education, and wellness, emphasizing the importance of children's success. Organizations applying for grants must be U.S.-based and verified as charitable. Preference is given to initiatives impacting health and education, especially those involving Encova associates as active participants.

The Huntington Impact Investment Philanthropy Grant Program aims to strengthen communities by supporting nonprofit organizations that enhance self-sufficiency and social equality. With a focus on areas such as community revitalization, affordable housing, and economic development, the program prioritizes initiatives that serve low- and moderate-income individuals. Organizations with IRS tax-exempt status can apply for funding to address critical community needs, fostering a more equitable environment for all.

The National Coastal Resilience Fund (NCRF) aims to protect coastal communities through nature-based solutions, enhancing habitats while addressing the growing threats of climate change. Established in 2018, the fund focuses on restoring vital ecosystems like marshes and reefs to mitigate flooding impacts. With rising sea levels and increasing storm intensity, NCRF invests in community-led projects that foster resilience, ensuring both people and wildlife can adapt to changing environmental conditions.

The Rural Business Development Grants program in Michigan aims to support small rural businesses with technical assistance and training. Eligible projects must benefit rural areas, focusing on entities with fewer than 50 employees and under $1 million in revenue. Grants can be used for various purposes, including business development and feasibility studies, without a maximum amount, although smaller requests are prioritized. This initiative fosters local economic growth and enhances community sustainability.

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in Michigan provide funding to organizations assisting low-income families in constructing their own homes. These grants facilitate technical and supervisory support, enabling participants to contribute labor on each other's homes. Eligible applicants include non-profits and federally-recognized tribes. Funds cannot be used for hiring construction workers or purchasing materials. The program aims to improve housing accessibility in rural areas, promoting community involvement and self-reliance.

The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) offers Planning Grants of up to $20,000 to foster community-based Local College Access Networks (LCANs). These grants aim to enhance college readiness and completion among low-income and first-generation students in Michigan. MCAN provides tools, templates, and technical assistance, alongside a requirement for grantees to match 25% of the award. Applications are accepted anytime, with reviews conducted year-round, except during the fiscal year-end from September 1 to 30.

Rob-See-Co is an independent seed company with regional expertise, providing customers access to leading genetics and traits through the Rob-See-Co and Innotech® seed brands. Rob-See-Co works alongside its customers, building strong relationships and helping them plant the right seed for their long-term success, while keeping the process friendly, straightforward, and simple. 

Rob-See-Co Library Grant

In recognition of National Library Day, Rob-See-Co, an independent seed company located in Elkhorn, Neb. is proud to announce the continuation of its Rural Library Grant program.

Originally launched in 2023 to commemorate the company’s 10th anniversary and honor Agnes Robinson’s dedication to the rural library in Waterloo, NE, the program continues to hold special meaning. Agnes, great-grandmother of Jim Robinson, CEO of Rob-See-Co, was a passionate advocate for rural libraries. Today, the program extends support to libraries across rural communities within the company’s footprint. 

The focus areas for grant distributions from the Rob-See-Co Rural Library Grant program will assist local libraries with expanding book collections, core educational programs for adults or children, and computer or software upgrades. Examples of this would be new books, expansion of school visits or field trips, digitizing research materials, support for funding traveling exhibits and speakers.

Rob-See-Co will award ten grants to selected rural libraries across CO, IA, KS, MD, MI, MN, ND, NE, OH, OK, PA, SD, TX and WI. Funds may be used for core educational, preservation and interpretive purposes, including collection development, facility improvements, traveling exhibits, guest speakers, staff training, programming, and publications. 

The Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids Minority Scholarship, funded by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, supports full-time undergraduate students of color from Kent County, Michigan. With a minimum GPA of 2.5, applicants pursuing Visual or Performing Arts are encouraged to apply. This scholarship aims to eliminate barriers to education and empower local students to achieve their academic and career goals while contributing to a vibrant, inclusive community.

This Library Services and Technology Act grant program is designed to provide libraries with the opportunity to expand services for learning and access to information and/or to develop library services that provide all users access to information. The intent is to fund one-year projects that increase access to library collections and information.

Each year, over 500 college-bound or career and technical education students benefit from our scholarship awards.

Our single application process makes it easy to potentially qualify for one or more of our 260+ scholarships.

Edward and Marion Petzko Student Athlete Scholarship

The recipient of the Edward and Marion Petzko Student Athlete Scholarship will be an above average student that received a varsity letter in either track or golf.

The Community Facilities Grant Program in Michigan offers essential funding to rural areas for developing community facilities. This program supports public bodies, non-profit organizations, and federally recognized tribes in improving services like healthcare, education, and safety. Eligible areas include communities with populations under 20,000. Grants can cover up to 75% of project costs, depending on community income levels, ensuring that smaller, lower-income communities receive the assistance they need for vital infrastructure improvements.

The Carls Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing children's welfare in Michigan and preserving natural areas. It supports non-profit organizations that are innovative and effective in their missions. Grant types include capital grants and seed money for multi-year projects. Eligible applicants must have 501(c)(3) status. The foundation prioritizes health care programs, recreational opportunities for disadvantaged children, and environmental education, while excluding funding for individuals, endowments, or special events.

Frank Rios, Jr. Line Worker Scholarship

Before COVID-19 took Frank from us, he was a hard-working family man. Frank believed in mentoring the next generation. Whether that was inside the trade of linework, community or family, he was always turning back around to help the next in line. Whether it was around linework, safety, fishing, golfing or life Frank was willing to share his knowledge and passion with others. Frank was a hardworking leader of character that had a passion for linework and making his community better through mentoring the future generations. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who shares these same attributes and passions.

The Community Health Matching Grant Program, led by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, aims to support nonprofit organizations in Michigan. This initiative encourages the development of community-inspired and evidence-based programs to address local health needs, ultimately enhancing health outcomes for the community. Eligible organizations must meet specific criteria regarding their budget and patient demographics to qualify for matching funds, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to underserved populations.

The Tom F. Bunge Charitable Trust Grant supports organizations that assist homeless individuals, reflecting the legacy of its founder, Tom F. Bunge. Established in St. Joseph County, Indiana, the trust awards approximately 10 grants annually, with a preference for local organizations. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)(3) exempt organizations. The trust aims to address homelessness without geographical restrictions, although it focuses on Indiana and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Disability Health Care Access and Quality Grant Program for Safety Net Organizations seeks to improve health care accessibility for low-income individuals with disabilities in Michigan. Funded by the U-M Center for Disability Health and Wellness and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, grants up to $10,000 will support projects enhancing healthcare access and quality. Eligible organizations must demonstrate local disability representation and a significant impact on community health within a six-month timeframe.

The Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program in Michigan provides essential funding for the development and enhancement of drinking water systems, sewage disposal, solid waste management, and stormwater drainage in eligible rural areas. This program supports qualified applicants, including local governments and nonprofits, who struggle to secure commercial credit. Funds can be used for various activities, from construction to legal fees, ensuring clean and reliable services for communities.

Gene and Donna Mallak Memorial Scholarship

The Gene and Donna Mallak Memorial Scholarship was established by their daughter Jeanne in honor of the tremendous support they gave her to pursue her college dreams. Her hope is that this scholarship will provide the same support for those who receive this award to also pursue their dreams.

The Delta Dental Foundation provides in-kind dental donations, including educational materials and hygiene products, to support organizations in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. These donations aim to promote oral health awareness and equity among underserved communities. Interested organizations should plan ahead, as applications are reviewed after the submission period closes. Supplies may be limited, and quantity restrictions may apply.
