About CoSHI

The Colorado Sexual Health Initiative (CoSHI) is funded by a Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) grant via the Family Youth Services Bureau. CoSHI provides youth with age-appropriate, medically accurate, people-centered, and evidence-based strategies that are proven to help reduce the risk of untimely pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

CDHS received federal PREP funding in 2010 to develop a sexual health education program. Each year CDHS provides training, education, and funding to agencies and community based organizations serving young people in Colorado. These services are designed to help communities increase access to information on healthy relationships, consent, and other life skills topics, and are provided along with training for trusted adults who would like to increase their skills in answering questions about sensitive topics.

Sexual health education is important because research has shown that it helps youth:

• Delay the initiation of sex (abstain)
• Reduce the frequency of sex
• Reduce the number of new partners
• Reduce the incidence of unprotected sex

PREP funding gives Colorado communities the chance to coordinate initiatives and build upon state laws, Colorado Academic Health Education Content Standards, and local initiatives addressing sexual health education to create programming that fits their community needs. 

CoSHI Mini-Grants

Mini-grants support counties, and/or community based organizations interested in developing a sexual health education program for young people ages 10-19 (21 if pregnant or parenting) in Colorado. The target audience will include youth involved with systems of care (foster care, juvenile justice etc..), those who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness, youth who are survivors of human trafficking or at risk of human trafficking and those who are at high risk of untimely pregnancy, STIs or HIV.

With no specific deadlines, applications are accepted year-round, and the review process generally takes about 120 days. The fund prioritizes impactful programs that drive meaningful change and foster community growth, honoring the legacy of founder Bill Daniels through strategic philanthropic efforts.

The DanPaul Foundation aims to enhance early childhood development by training teachers and parents, protecting children from abuse, and promoting social responsibility. The Indigo Oak Fund, a Colorado-based private foundation, focuses on empowering women and children through various initiatives. Helping our communities across Colorado

For decades, Ent has contributed millions of dollars to support communities across Colorado as a part of our mission to improve our members’ financial quality of life. As a “community advocate” we have a vested interest in supporting the communities where our owner-members live, work and play.

We are partnering with the Pikes Peak Community Foundation to help us raise awareness of the funding available to organizations through Ent, identify volunteer opportunities for Ent employees and to maximize the impact of our financial contributions.

Ent provides funding to various nonprofits along the Front Range that fall into any of the following impact categories:

• Youth: Primary program impact focuses on children under the age of 18 with emphasis on impact in housing, food, behavioral and/or mental health.
• Education: Primary program impact supports classroom learning at all levels, with an emphasis on organizations that design and manage these educational initiatives. For higher education, the focus is primarily on providing scholarships to students attending Colorado-based universities and community colleges.
• Community: Primary program impact addresses major community issues with a focus on community enrichment, food banks, homelessness, and/or poverty.
• Legacy: Primary program impact does not fit into any categories above but may continue to receive support based on Ent’s Colorado Springs heritage.

Applicants who have received Community Advocacy and/or YES Grants funding within the same calendar year may still qualify for an additional grant. However, if funding is limited, priority will be given to new applicants. Applicants may reapply if their initial application is denied.

The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund provides grants focusing on Education, Human Services, and Healthcare initiatives. The fund prioritizes programs with measurable outcomes that aim to alleviate poverty and suffering. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits and align with the fund's mission to create sustainable change. Applications are accepted by invitation only in specific regions, with a rolling deadline. The fund seeks collaborative efforts to maximize impact across its program areas.

The Anschutz Family Foundation Grant supports programs that enhance self-sufficiency and community development for economically disadvantaged individuals in Colorado. With a focus on helping families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, the foundation provides grants typically ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charities or government entities. The foundation encourages alignment with its mission and requires demonstrated financial need and a solid track record of success.

The Dr. Scholl Foundation offers grants annually to IRS 501(c)(3) organizations, primarily focusing on U.S. applicants. The foundation supports projects in education, social services, healthcare, civic and cultural initiatives, and environmental efforts. While the grant cycle runs from October 1 to March 1, it encourages innovative solutions to global challenges. Only one application per organization is accepted each year, and funding is limited to one year. Unqualified organizations, including political entities, are ineligible.

Eligible entities must align with CHFA's mission by promoting affordable home ownership, rental housing, and economic development. Priority is given to organizations that serve rural communities, special needs populations, and those innovating in construction and service delivery, ensuring housing stability and economic prosperity for all Coloradans.

The In-N-Out Burger Foundation supports organizations that aid children and youth affected by abuse and neglect, offering grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. Eligible nonprofits must be 501(c)(3) registered, operational for at least two years, and demonstrate a commitment to the foundation's mission. Applications are considered for traditional, capital, and program support, focusing on sustainable solutions and clear objectives. Organizations must operate in areas with In-N-Out Burger locations to qualify.

The Caring for Denver Grants for Alternatives to Jail focus on reducing the interaction of individuals with mental health and substance misuse challenges with the criminal legal system. The initiative emphasizes equity, inclusivity, and ongoing support for individuals, ensuring they receive appropriate care that fits their needs. By funding innovative programs, the foundation aims to enhance access to mental health resources, improve care transitions, and ultimately promote healthier outcomes for Denver residents.

The Lucille Drinkwater Allen Trust Grant supports the care of neglected and homeless domestic animals, particularly dogs, in Colorado. Established by Mrs. Lucille Drinkwater Allen's will, the trust aims to alleviate suffering and ensure animals can live their full lives without the threat of euthanasia.
