Since 1984, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has invested nearly $1.5 billion in people, communities and organizations to help ensure everyone in our region can thrive. We serve Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties with generous support from thousands of donors, individuals, families and businesses.

HOPE Fund Grants

The HOPE Fund (Helping Others through Partnerships and Education) was created to strengthen organizations and projects that support LGBTQ+ individuals and families, through targeted grantmaking, projects and technical assistance.

The HOPE Fund provides grants and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations serving local LGBTQ+ communities in Southeast Michigan. The Fund will consider applications from either LGBTQ+ -specific nonprofit agencies or nonprofit agencies that have a broader mission but are meaningfully serving the LGBTQ+ community in some way.

The Service Club Alliance Grant, facilitated by the Midland Area Community Foundation, promotes collaboration among local service clubs to enhance grantmaking efficiency for community organizations. By using a unified application process, nonprofits can easily access funding for essential projects aimed at serving Midland County residents. Grants, which can reach up to $3,000, address youth-oriented needs and are awarded on a just-in-time basis, ensuring timely support for pressing community issues.

Service Club Alliance

The Service Club Alliance is a collaborative partnership between Midland area service clubs to coordinate efforts and simplify grantmaking for community organizations. The Service Club Alliance streamlines the grant process by using a common application for applicants who provide essential support to Midland County residents.

When an organization submits an application, it is automatically shared with all participating service clubs for review and consideration. This collective approach was established collaboratively by the participating clubs to ensure that community resources are allocated in the most effective and impactful way possible.

The Midland Area Community Foundation is not responsible for the grantmaking decisions made by the organizations below. We serve solely as the convenor of this alliance.

Clubs

Our grants typically range up to $5,000. Successful applicants must provide a project summary, including photos, within 12 months of completion.

There are two annual grant cycles.

Applicants who would like their request to be reviewed by Midland Rotary Foundation must have a Midland Noon Rotary Club member serve as a Sponsor to their request. The Sponsor must read the grant application ahead of submission. There is a field in the grant application form to include the Midland Noon Rotary Club sponsor name.

Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin

The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin gives everyone the opportunity to make significant and lasting gifts to their community. We manage over 320 funds that enhance Portage and Waushara counties. Together with our generous donors, we create a strong culture of philanthropy in Central Wisconsin.

We are a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1982 to provide scholarships and grants to organizations and projects that improve the quality of life in Portage and Waushara counties.

Scholarships

The Community Foundation proudly supports students in Portage and Waushara counties with over $325,000 in scholarships annually, thanks to the generosity of local individuals and families. Award amounts range from $500 to $40,000, opening doors to educational opportunities.

Joey Trzebiatowski Memorial Scholarship

Qualifications: Graduating senior from Central Wisconsin, or UWSP or UW-Madison student planning to study business.

The Big Yellow School Bus program, offered by the Ohio Arts Council, supports school field trips to arts and cultural activities by covering transportation costs. It is designed for public, private, charter, and parochial schools, as well as home-schooled student groups. With grants of up to $500 available, this initiative fosters early arts exposure, enhancing students' educational experiences and creating vital connections with Ohio's creative sector. Applications must be submitted at least eight weeks prior to the event.

The ASPCA's Rescue Effect Campaign Grants provide $1.8 million to support animal welfare organizations in the U.S. during a crucial adoption initiative. Eligible non-profits can receive funding based on their intake of adoptable pets and commitment to hold fee-waived adoption days. The program aims to promote responsible pet adoption and community involvement, making a significant impact on animal welfare during the months of August to October.

Peter & Inez Schonveld Scholarship

This scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Inez Schonveld to provide scholarship assistance to graduating high school seniors and graduates of the Kalamazoo Public School District.

KZCF scholarships may be applied to any items under your school’s cost of attendance (COA). Each school has a different COA that may include items such as tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, health insurance, etc. Scholarship payments are sent directly to your institution. 

This scholarship is a one-time award, meaning that it will not repeat in subsequent years. The money awarded can be applied to your education costs alongside other scholarships or funding that you may receive, and there are no necessary steps once funds are sent.

The Jefferson County Helen Parker Willard Fund offers grants for the maintenance and restoration of historic cemeteries in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Funded by the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation, these grants support nonprofit organizations in preserving Civil War era monuments and beautifying abandoned graves. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government agencies, and civic groups. The initiative encourages projects that promote diversity and inclusion within the community.

The Blue Horizon Health Fund, managed by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, provides financial assistance for medical expenses to individuals and families in need within specific Connecticut towns. This includes coverage for therapeutic, chiropractic, and surgical care for those who are indigent and helpless, regardless of background. Applications can be submitted by health and social service representatives on behalf of clients, ensuring accessible support for those facing medical challenges.

Danial & Joeanna Smith Education Scholarship

The scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Danial and Joeanna Smith for the purpose of providing educational scholarships to permanent residents of Van Buren County and who are planning to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year college/university. Additional application materials are required for this scholarship.

The Economic Development Fund for East Tennessee Grant Program, established in 1991, aims to support charitable and economic initiatives that foster regional economic growth. Organizations eligible for funding must operate within East Tennessee's 25-county service area and provide necessary documentation, including nonprofit status. Grants, ranging from $5,000 to $6,500, will be awarded for one-year terms starting August 1, 2024, with applications opening in August 2024.

The Harry W. and Carolyn W. Galbraith Memorial Fund Grant supports animal care organizations focusing on spaying and neutering programs for cats and dogs. Established in 2014, it awards grants ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 for one-year terms beginning August 2024. Eligible organizations must be located within the Foundation's service area and provide services primarily to low-income pet owners. Funds may also cover rabies vaccinations, enhancing overall animal welfare in the community.

The PLTW Gateway program, supported by the John Deere Foundation, aims to enhance STEM education access for underserved communities. By 2030, they intend to assist 1 million youth through inclusive educational opportunities. Schools within 40 miles of John Deere facilities can apply for grants to implement PLTW Gateway units, promoting real-world skill development. Priority is given to schools that demonstrate need and ensure student enrollment in these programs, fostering a strong foundation for future success.

The Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program by Lilly Endowment supports K-12 educators in Indiana by providing grants up to $15,000 for renewal projects. These projects aim to restore educators' enthusiasm and stimulate creativity, enhancing student educational experiences. The program encourages meaningful exploration and reflection rather than typical vacations. Approximately 125 grants will be awarded in 2025, with a focus on activities that are intellectually enriching and personally renewing.

The PLTW Launch program, in partnership with the John Deere Foundation, aims to enhance STEM education access for underserved communities. This initiative supports schools in implementing PLTW Launch modules, fostering equitable opportunities for students. With a commitment to enroll at least 50% of students from the Free and Reduced Lunch program, the program focuses on real-world skills development to prepare youth for future challenges. The goal is to empower one million students by 2030.

The Lycoming Economic Development Foundation Fund, established in partnership with the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania, aims to stimulate economic growth in Lycoming County. This fund supports initiatives that enhance community life by promoting job creation, workforce development, infrastructure improvement, and sustainable business practices. Since its inception in 1955, the foundation has focused on fostering local philanthropic efforts to ensure a thriving economy for residents of Lycoming County.

The Earl & Lela Frazier Scholarship supports students from the Milton-Freewater, Oregon area pursuing undergraduate degrees in medical fields. This scholarship emphasizes financial need and requires first-year applicants to have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5. Recipients must maintain a college GPA of 2.0 or higher to continue receiving funding. The scholarship is available for all four years of undergraduate study, with applications needed each year.

The Joyce & Duane Plyter Academic Scholarship offers financial assistance ranging from $500 to $1000 for students from the Milton-Freewater, Oregon area. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 while enrolled. This scholarship is available for all four years of undergraduate studies, with annual applications required. Additionally, two scholarships are offered: one for trade school students and another for those pursuing general college education.

The Federal Senior Companion Program Grant State Match, facilitated by the Illinois Department of Aging, supports government and nonprofit organizations currently receiving AmeriCorps Senior funding. Established in 1973, this grant aims to assist in covering the required cost-sharing match for the Senior Companion program. While grants have historically been provided, future funding is uncertain and dependent on annual appropriations, emphasizing the need for eligible organizations to apply promptly.

Brian Thiele Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Brian Thiele, provides financial assistance to students who exhibit characteristics similar to those for which Brian is so fondly remembered. This includes playing varsity and/or club soccer, achievement of personal and academic goals, overcoming obstacles to meet his goals, competitive spirit, leadership and a special caring for community. Additional application materials are required for this scholarship.

The Cambiar Catalyst Fellowship is a transformative year-long program designed for experienced educators and systems leaders. It offers intensive professional development through coaching, in-person and virtual learning experiences, and community building. Participants tackle real-world challenges in their districts using the CREATE framework, enhancing their leadership skills and impact. The fellowship aims to reimagine K-12 public education by supporting leaders in creating sustainable solutions for improved student outcomes.

The Families Invested in Reforming Education (FIRE) Fellowship is a six-week virtual training program designed to empower advocates committed to enhancing the education system for PreK-12 students in the U.S. Participants will engage in eight interactive sessions, focusing on advocacy skills and community networking. Graduates will benefit from ongoing support and training from the 50CAN team to further their advocacy efforts. This volunteer-only program does not offer stipends, emphasizing a commitment to educational reform.

The Rotary Club of Portsmouth's Basic Needs Grant Fund provides essential support for food, shelter, healthcare, and clothing to families in the Portsmouth community. Funded through local fundraising events, this grant aims to address basic needs, particularly for children. With no fixed grant amounts, typical awards are around $2,500, and applicants can reapply annually, ensuring ongoing assistance for those in need in the greater Portsmouth area.

State Development Grant

State Development Grant Program is for brick-and-mortar preservation projects. Properties must be individually listed on or a contributing property in a historic district or/and archaeological development of a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places to be eligible for this funding. The funding source for this grant program is appropriated by the WV Legislature, through Lottery Funds.

Funding is given to projects related to at least one of the following work categories:

• Work to sustain the existing form, integrity, and materials of a historic property.
• Measures to defend or guard the physical condition of a property from deterioration, loss or attack, or to cover or shield the site from further danger or injury.
• Repair and alteration of a property that make it compatible for modern use, while also preserving the features that convey its historical, cultural, and architectural value. This also includes work necessary to facilitate putting the building to an appropriate use, including meeting all codes and accessibility standards.
• Work that accurately depicts the form, features, and character of a property as it appeared at a particular period of time.
• Measures to reestablish the physical stability of a deteriorated historic property

Matching Requirement

Development Grants require a match budgeted on one-to-one (50/50) basis. Matching funds may include in-kind contributions but at least half of the sponsor’s matching funds must be cash. Only non-federal monies may be used as sources of cash. Grants are paid as reimbursement, so all grant expenditures and match resources must be expended for services completed (and approved) during the project period.

For All Levels of Education After High School

Kalamazoo Community Foundation is dedicated to creating pathways to higher education so students can thrive in their academic pursuits and for a lifetime. We oversee more than 60 scholarships and education grants (many of which are multiyear awards) for college, graduate school, career training and more.

Bhargava Family Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Bhargava family, recognizes graduating high school seniors who demonstrate high academic performance as well as involvement in school, community and work activities.

About DHHL

As part of the Native Hawaiian Development Program Plan, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) makes available annual grant funding to nonprofit organizations that demonstrate a purpose to benefit native Hawaiians. DHHL has offered grants in several program areas over the years as a means of implementing the community development component of the rehabilitation fund. Grant offerings reflect the department’s priorities and community interests.

Grant for Disaster Preparedness / Mitigation

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) is seeking grant proposals statewide for disaster preparedness, prevention, and mitigation projects, programs and/or services in existing homesteads on Hawaiian Home Lands. Grant proposals may cover a broad range of areas in disaster preparedness and mitigation. Proposed projects may include any project related to the DHHL General Plan or listed in any HHC-approved DHHL Regional Plan, including those listed as “Potential” and/or “Priority” Projects. 

Award Period

The award is for a maximum of up to five years from the contract effective date.

Award Amounts

Subject to the availability of funds, a total of $2,000,000 in competitive funds will be provided for this solicitation using RFPs for “improvements to facilities located in existing homesteads.” The maximum grant proposal amount for this RFP-26-HHL-005 is $1,000,000. 

The Koch Family Foundation supports individuals in Kansas by promoting arts and education initiatives.
