Special Giving Program

Throughout her life, Ann B. Zekauskas supported numerous nonprofits and charitable endeavors. She especially had a fondness for organizations that worked to rescue and rehome abandoned animals — and her house was always home to a dog, a cat, and, for a very long time, a set of parakeets. 

In honoring Ann’s complete legacy, each year our trustees contribute to select causes which are of special personal importance to them and fall beyond our three main areas of giving. These include supporting educational institutions; local community groups and projects; athletics programs; animal rescues; and more.

The Kids’ Chance of America: Emergency Grant Program aims to provide essential support to state organizations facing unexpected challenges in funding scholarships for children of injured workers. This initiative ensures that these children can continue their education despite unforeseen financial hardships. Grants can be utilized for scholarships, room, board, and educational fees, emphasizing the importance of maintaining educational support for deserving students during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Adams County CO Community Enrichment Grants

The Community Enrichment Grant (CEG) is a competitive Adams County grant program that provides financial support to nonprofit organizations, school districts, and special districts to operate programs and services that improve the health, well-being, and self-sufficiency of underserved, marginalized, or vulnerable Adams County residents.

Grant funds must be used to directly serve Adams County residents, and funding requests must be based on the actual cost to deliver services through the proposed project.

The Community Enrichment Grant is a competitive funding opportunity, and demand typically exceeds available resources. In recent years, approximately 25% of submitted applications have been recommended for funding.

Funding priorities for the Community Enrichment Grant are established annually by the BoCC and may change from year to year based on community needs, available resources, and county priorities.

Tier 1: Safety Net & Basic Needs

Tier 1 supports projects that provide immediate, tangible assistance to help individuals and families meet essential day-to-day needs and promote stability. Eligible projects may include direct assistance such as transportation support, physical or behavioral health-related needs, emergency assistance, clothing, hygiene products, baby supplies, school necessities, and other basic household items.

The Independent Medical Education Program Grants provided by the Boston Scientific Foundation Inc aim to support educational, scientific, and policymaking programs that enhance medical knowledge. These grants are available to US-based healthcare institutions and organizations, promoting a wide range of educational initiatives. While they do not cover certain costs like faculty honoraria or travel for attendees, they encourage applications for various educational events. Please apply well in advance, as funding decisions are made monthly.

The Community Foundation of Marquette County distributes over $130,000 annually in scholarships to benefit aspiring students in Marquette County.

William B. Larson Memorial Scholarship

Provides scholarships for graduating seniors of Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Westwood High Schools. The Fund aims to award three scholarships of equal amount annually to eligible applicants based on the following criteria: Students must be graduating seniors pursuing higher education in the field of business administration, they must demonstrate financial need, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Distribution Process

• CFMC scholarship recipients will be contacted in June requesting student enrollment verification
• Scholarships can only be distributed once student’s information is received
• Scholarships will be distributed to the college/school/university indicated by student
• The scholarship must be used for tuition and fees required for the enrollment or attendance of the student at a qualifying educational institution; fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at such an educational institution; and room and board, within the first semester of first year of students enrollment
• That year’s recipient must claim the scholarship within that fiscal year to be distributed (by 12/31/xx)

The Community Foundation of Marquette County distributes over $130,000 annually in scholarships to benefit aspiring students in Marquette County.

Coach Dion Brown Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Gwinn Area Community Schools pursuing higher education, and who demonstrates school and/or community leadership through involvement in extracurricular activities (not limited to athletic).

Distribution Process

• CFMC scholarship recipients will be contacted in June requesting student enrollment verification
• Scholarships can only be distributed once student’s information is received
• Scholarships will be distributed to the college/school/university indicated by student
• The scholarship must be used for tuition and fees required for the enrollment or attendance of the student at a qualifying educational institution; fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at such an educational institution; and room and board, within the first semester of first year of students enrollment
• That year’s recipient must claim the scholarship within that fiscal year to be distributed (by 12/31/xx)

The Iowa Public Library Grant Award Program, funded by the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, supports the enhancement of library services across Iowa. Grants up to $80,000 assist with construction, renovation, and technology initiatives, especially those benefiting youth. Projects are evaluated on community needs and local investment. However, funding for joint school-library projects or accessibility improvements is excluded. Successful applicants must wait five years before reapplying.

The World Trade Center Scholarship in New Jersey provides financial support to dependent children and surviving spouses of residents who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. Administered by HESAA, this scholarship covers tuition, fees, and other educational costs at eligible institutions. Applicants must be full-time students and maintain satisfactory academic progress. The award amount varies each year based on funding and need, ensuring that assistance is available to those who have lost financial support due to these tragic events.

The Governor's Urban Scholarship (NJ) is a merit-based program by HESAA designed to support high-achieving students from designated New Jersey communities. Eligibility is determined by high school rankings, requiring students to be in the top 5% with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. No application is needed; schools submit eligible candidates directly to HESAA. This initiative not only promotes academic excellence but also enhances educational opportunities for students in underserved areas.

The Latham Fund Grant supports organizations in the Washington, DC area focusing on medical research for disease cures, particularly clinical applications. It also aids financially challenged patients requiring medical, nursing, or hospital care. Established in 1972, the Charles and Mary Latham Fund has positively impacted the community by funding various health-related projects. Grants are not available for research involving animals or individual support, ensuring a focus on collective health advancements.

The NJ STARS Scholarship, managed by HESAA, offers financial support to New Jersey high school graduates who rank in the top 15% of their class. This merit-based scholarship covers tuition for up to 18 credit hours per semester at local community colleges for eligible students. To qualify, students must enroll full-time and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Funding is subject to state appropriations, ensuring that education remains accessible for deserving students.

Participatory Budgeting Community Garden Development Grant

About Grow Boston

GrowBoston is the City of Boston's Office of Urban Agriculture, and part of the Mayor's Office of Housing (MOH). MOH has been supporting the development of community gardens, urban farms, food forests, and other open spaces for more than 25 years through the Grassroots Program, which is now part of GrowBoston. GrowBoston works to increase community gardens, urban farms, and other food-growing spaces throughout Boston; support innovative food production strategies; provide technical assistance to prospective and existing gardens and farms; develop resources for gardeners, farmers, and other residents; and coordinate with other City departments associated with food production in Boston. Grant Description

GrowBoston is offering a total of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00) to support community gardens in Boston's neighborhoods with limited access to affordable food. This program will offer grants to nonprofit organizations to build community gardens on underutilized land for public access and use, prioritizing areas where people have limited access to affordable, nutritious food. This project will create a healthier environment, beautify the community, address food insecurity, and build camaraderie among residents. Garden operations must have a robust rodent management plan. The public purpose of this grant program is to invest in public community garden spaces for Boston residents. This funding opportunity is a direct outcome of resident-led decision-making through the City’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) process established through a voter-approved ballot initiative in November 2021.

Design & Construction Standards

• Preserves desirable site conditions and features.
• Promotes accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
• Repairs or replaces inadequate site infrastructure or furnishings.
• Maintains or restores visibility throughout the site.
• Appropriate site assessment and soil conditions.
• Ensures health and safety of gardeners or users of the open space.
• Appropriate treatment or remediation of any site hazards or contamination.
• Addresses concerns and needs of abutting residential property owners.
• Provides site improvements posing minimal risk or liability to landowner.
• Incorporates energy, soil, and water conservation measures.
• Avoids the use of any invasive plant species.
• Limits the use of impermeable surfaces.

The Regional Everyone Outdoors Grant Program, offered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, aims to enhance community engagement with the natural resources of the Ozarks. Nonprofit organizations, government entities, and schools in rural Missouri are invited to apply for funding to support innovative outdoor programming. Ideal projects focus on low-income neighborhoods and include environmental education, equipment purchase, and community gathering space enhancement. This grant does not require matching funds, promoting broader participation in outdoor activities.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture 

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has served our state for more than 125 years. The work we do touches every Minnesota citizen every day.

Our mission is to enhance all Minnesotans’ quality of life by equitably ensuring the integrity of our food supply, the health of our environment, and the strength and resilience of our agricultural economy.

Cream of the Crop Awards

The Minnesota Grown Cream of the Crop Awards recognizes school districts, early care centers, and family day cares that go above and beyond to promote foods grown and raised by Minnesota farmers and producers. Whether it’s through locally sourced meals served in your cafeteria, community events to connect families and farmers, or food focused classroom lessons, we want to celebrate all the creative ways you connect your students and kids to Minnesota Grown food!

Award Categories

1) Cream of the Crop Winners

One winner from each category will be selected. Scoring will be based on applicants’ promotion and procurement of Minnesota grown and raised foods during the 2025-2026school year.

• Family Day Care of the Year

2) Outstanding in the Field Honors

Additional applicants will be honored across three levels:

• Golden Drumstick Honorees
• Silver Squash Honorees
• Bronze Berry Honorees

3) Producer Appreciation Pick

Applicants will have the opportunity to nominate a Minnesota Grown producer that has been an outstanding partner in their Farm to Kids program. Reviewers will randomly select a nominated producer to be the 2026 Producer Appreciation Pick.

The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin gives everyone the opportunity to make significant and lasting gifts to their community.

We manage over 320 funds that enhance Portage and Waushara counties. Together with our generous donors, we create a strong culture of philanthropy in Central Wisconsin.

We are a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1982 to provide scholarships and grants to organizations and projects that improve the quality of life in Portage and Waushara counties.

James & Lynne Johnson Family Scholarship

The Community Foundation proudly supports students in Portage and Waushara counties with over $325,000 in scholarships annually, thanks to the generosity of local individuals and families. Award amounts range from $500 to $40,000, opening doors to educational opportunities.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry

The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) employs more than 5,000 workers in 200 offices statewide. Established in 1913, the department originally inspected the working conditions in factories around the state. Over time, the department's responsibilities expanded.

L&I administers benefits to unemployed individuals, oversees the administration of workers' compensation benefits to individuals with job-related injuries, and provides vocational rehabilitation to individuals with disabilities. The department prepares job seekers for the global workforce through employment and job training services for adult, youth, older workers, and dislocated workers. In addition, L&I enforces various laws and safety standards in the workplace and administers the commonwealth's programs for community service by young Pennsylvanians. L&I also promotes economic development and an improved business climate through a variety of initiatives and programs to help Pennsylvania's workforce remain world-class and globally competitive.

Jobs for Veterans State Grant Incentive Awards 

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) has established this incentive award to honor PA CareerLink® offices and Local Workforce Development Boards (LWDBs) for their exemplary service to veterans, including those with employment barriers, transitioning service members, and eligible spouses and caregivers. In alignment with VPL 01-24, L&I will distribute JVSG Incentive Awards to PA CareerLink® offices and LWDBs actively advancing the improvement and modernization of employment, training, and placement services for veterans. These awards celebrate organizations whose efforts exemplify excellence in supporting veterans and their families through employment services, while fostering local partnerships and strengthening community ties.

NACO Scholarship

NACO began its scholarship program in 1999 when it presented six high school seniors with $500 awards each to be used toward their post-secondary educations. Since 2004, NACO has presented twelve high school seniors with $1000 awards each to be used toward their post-secondary educations. 

To be considered, students must complete the required application form, submit a seven-semester transcript from an accredited Nebraska high school and prepare a written essay on the importance of county government.

Scholarship recipients must plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution within the state of Nebraska and may use the NACO scholarship for any costs associated with their continuing education. Scholarships are available for one year and are non-renewable.

This scholarship is awarded to two individuals selected by Lackawanna College who are a graduate of a Lackawanna County High School and demonstrates financial need and past academic performance.

The Kansas Hero's Scholarship provides tuition waivers for eligible dependents and spouses of deceased or disabled public safety officers and military personnel attending public postsecondary institutions in Kansas. This scholarship is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and applicants should submit their applications early as funding is limited. Waivers only cover tuition and required fees for undergraduate courses, with students responsible for other academic costs.

Melvin-Deininger Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of a Lackawanna county high school who maintains a B average or higher and who plans to attend a college, university, or technical school located in Pennsylvania.

The Kansas State Scholarship supports financially needy students in the top 40-50% of Kansas high school graduates. Eligible seniors must complete the FAFSA and the State of Kansas Student Aid Application. Awarded scholars can receive up to $1,000 annually, renewable for up to four years based on financial need. Scholars must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and enroll in at least 12 credit hours per semester to remain eligible for funding.

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in West Virginia provide essential funding for qualified organizations to assist low-income families in constructing their own homes. These grants enable organizations to supervise and guide community members through the self-help process, fostering collaboration and skill development. Eligible areas can be determined through the USDA Eligibility Site, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. This program ultimately aims to enhance housing opportunities and empower families in rural communities.

Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico

Mission: The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico serves as a community resource, connects donors to needs, and supports charitable organizations in their work.

Scholarships

CFSNM offers scholarships that support students from all walks and stages of life in pursuing various avenues of their educational and professional journeys.

Applicants must be pursuing any avenue of higher education and/or professional certifications. This includes undergraduate, post-grad, vocational and more! Applicants must be actively enrolled as a student. Applicants in high school must be a graduating senior.

Dr. Robert Palmer Scholarship Fund

To make awards for one or more students from Luna county.

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in Vermont provide funding to qualified organizations to assist very-low- and low-income families in constructing their own homes through cooperative efforts. Recipients offer technical and supervisory support, helping families complete loan applications and enabling their participation in self-help housing projects. This initiative fosters community development while alleviating housing challenges in rural areas. Eligible applicants include government non-profits, federally-recognized tribes, and private non-profits.

The Underprivileged Children Fund, managed by the Nemaha County STEP Foundation, aims to support local non-profits in Nemaha County that assist children in need. This fund focuses on families earning less than $50,000 annually, covering essential needs such as medical care, food, and clothing for children up to age 18. Grant recipients are required to provide detailed reports on fund usage and demonstrate the project's impact through stories and evidence.
