Grants

The Foundation makes grants to increase the capacity of Indiana District of Kiwanis clubs. It also supports Indiana District of Kiwanis supported projects to respond effectively to the needs of the citizens of the state. In general, the Foundation prefers funding for projects that further the Objects of Kiwanis.

A club may only receive a grant once every two years.

The Foundation’s goal is to provide effective assistance to as many Indiana Kiwanis Clubs as possible. Grant awards will be available from $250- $4,000 and require matching funds on a sliding scale, depending on the amount of therequest. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis until the total funds available for the fiscal year are depleted. All clubs will be notified if/when that happens.

J.L. McCulloch Award

A personal gift of $1,000 to the Kiwanis Indiana Foundation, Inc., by an individual entitles him or her to the J.L. McCulloch Award. The recipient of this award is recognized with a framed medallion, a ribboned medallion, and either a lapel pin or a pendant.

This is the Indiana District’s most prestigious award and is named for our first Kiwanis Indiana District Governor. The receiving of this award by its honored recipients has left a legacy to the service. This continues the good works begun by the man for whom it is named.

Eagle Award

The Kiwanis Indiana Foundation has established a recognition award for presenting to anyone who has gone “above and beyond” in serving their Kiwanis club. It can also be awarded for service to their community or others. It could be awarded to an outgoing President, Lt. Governor, or other club officer. This includes someone who has brought in several new members, a member who has taken on and completed a new service project. Or it can be to anyone else you or your club feel have accomplished great things.

The Honoree will receive a beautifully designed Eagle lapel pin and a certificate with the $250 donation to the Kiwanis Indiana Foundation.

Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS)

The MNRS originally began to provide a place for nurses to collaborate, and collaborate they did! Over time, the founding members began to realize the benefits of having an organization dedicated specifically to nursing research. With some careful attention and a lot of hard work, we have grown into the organization it is today. We're a society where scientists, innovators, and drivers of clinical practice across the career trajectory, come together to share ideas and grow our field through innovative research.

The mission of the MNRS is to generate knowledge, translate evidence into practice, and enhance careers through collaborative engagement, implementation, and dissemination among diverse scholars. Our Vision to be the premier society that advances science, fosters leadership, and drives dissemination to improve health equity for all people.

Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award

The purpose of the Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a new investigator who has conducted nursing research that has the potential to enhance the science and practice of nursing.

The IAC Arts Organization Support Grant provides vital annual operating support to eligible arts organizations in Indiana, helping them fulfill their artistic and administrative missions. By aligning with IAC funding priorities, these grants enable organizations to deliver quality arts and educational activities while promoting inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. The grant amount is determined based on several factors, ensuring support reaches those with the greatest need and least access to other funding.

The IAC Arts Project Support Grant offers funding for Indiana 501(c)3 nonprofits and public entities to carry out specific arts projects or activities. Applicants can propose diverse projects like art events, performances, exhibitions, or workshops that foster public engagement, especially in underserved communities. This initiative, supported by the Indiana Arts Commission, aims to enhance access to quality arts experiences and support local artists, enriching Indiana's cultural landscape without a match requirement.

MNRS Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an MNRS member who has demonstrated sustained influential leadership and service to the organization, such as chairing committees, organizing annual conference activities, or serving on the Board of Directors. 

The Joyce Foundation's Journalism Grants support independent, nonpartisan reporting to address critical issues in the Great Lakes region. By investing in high-quality journalism, the Foundation aims to promote informed decision-making and strengthen community cohesion. Eligible applicants include nonprofit journalism organizations and projects that enhance local news and support early career journalists, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. The application process requires advance planning, with funding decisions made quarterly.

Graduate students, veterinary students, residents, and postdoctoral trainees conducting toxicology or pathology research can receive about US $2,000 plus meeting-related benefits to support attendance at the STP Annual Symposium. Grants from Society of Toxicology help Indiana health-focused researchers who are first authors on SOT-accepted abstracts in toxicologic pathology or related fields present their work.

The Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine is pleased to announce the availability of grants to support research projects conducted by clinical fellows in accredited fellowship programs within the sections of the Department of Pediatrics.Research projects must be feasibly completed within the fellowship period.

The Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving: Thriving Communities Grant Program supports initiatives that promote sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience across a 22-state network. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, the program aims to foster economic development and ensure equal access to basic necessities. Eligible organizations include tax-exempt nonprofits, government entities, and public schools, emphasizing diversity and inclusion in their community-focused efforts.

The Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving: Safety First Grant Program aims to enhance community safety across its 22-state network. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $15,000, it supports organizations that provide safety services or promote safe behavior. This program reflects Norfolk Southern's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, empowering employees to engage locally. By investing in safety and workforce development, Norfolk Southern fosters thriving communities, demonstrating its dedication to social responsibility and community well-being.

The Historic Preservation Education Grant, offered by Indiana Humanities, aims to educate citizens about the importance of preserving historic places in their communities. The grant funds various educational formats, including workshops, presentations, and digital projects like webinars and online exhibits. In 2025, Indiana Humanities plans to award nine or ten grants, encouraging projects that foster community engagement and raise awareness of historic preservation's value.

The Indiana Youth Worker Well-Being Project Grants offer funding opportunities for youth-serving organizations in Indiana to enhance workplace wellness. Organizations can apply for grants to implement customized strategies aimed at improving staff well-being. The initiative encourages applicants to identify their needs and growth opportunities, ensuring they can create a positive work environment. Applications are due by October 3, 2025, for workplace wellness projects and by October 17 for other categories.

Community Foundation of Randolph County

Our mission is to bring people and resources together to strengthen the quality of life, both now and in the future, for the residents of Randolph County.

The Community Foundation’s work falls into three major categories: grant-making, donor service, and community convening. Our most visible activities are the grants and scholarships we award each year. Most of these awards come from income earned from permanently endowed funds. Scholarships and other grants come from funds that donors have established for specific purposes.

Diana Fahl Sciences Scholarship

In the early 1990’s Diana Fahl began working at Indiana University East, she saw there was a financial need for single mothers. Diana came up with the idea to create a fundraiser cookbook, with faculty, staff and students submitting recipes. Diana served as the editor, and it was a hit; they reached the level for two endowed scholarships. Ten years later Diana saw that the student body had changed to a more traditional student body with a large percentage of freshman students not advancing to sophomore level. Diana proposed a new scholarship as a two-fold scholarship, the high school graduate would receive the first component of the scholarship their freshman year of college, then, as the student proceeds to their sophomore year they would get an increased additional payment from the scholarship. Diana served as editor of this cookbook and two more endowed scholarships were created.

After decades of working with the community and creating needed scholarships, Diana is overwhelmed with pride to have a science scholarship in her name.

This scholarship may be awarded to students who are a Randolph County resident, graduate from a Randolph County school, and plans to pursue a degree in the Sciences (not including nursing) at Indiana University East.

Letha's Youth Outdoors Fund Grant provides financial support for field trips that connect youth groups in Indiana with nature. Ideal for educators, this grant fosters outdoor learning experiences, emphasizing the importance of native plants and their habitats. Since 2008, it has enabled over 15,000 youth to explore environmental education centers and parks, especially those with limited access to such opportunities. Grants range from $50 to $700, covering transport and educational activities.

The Large Creative & Performing Arts Grants, offered by the University of Notre Dame's Franco Family Institute, support innovative arts projects led by faculty in the College of Arts & Letters. These grants are awarded biannually and prioritize projects that foster social engagement, explore sacred themes, or integrate technology with the arts. Eligible faculty can use the grants for materials, travel, and exhibition costs, enhancing the creative landscape and encouraging collaboration among scholars and artists.

David E. Hyre Memorial Scholarship Fund

The David E. Hyre Memorial Scholarship was created by Mr. Hyre’s daughters in his memory. David Hyre, born in 1943, graduated Winchester High School in 1961. He also attended Purdue University (Mechanical Engineering Bachelors), University of Michigan (Mechanical Engineering Masters), and Michigan State University (M.B.A.). He was a part of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering (CIE Program). He worked as an engineer and a manager during his 35 years at Chrysler until he retired in 2001. David was very active with Habitat for Humanity and ushered at the Maddie Kelly Center for the Arts in Niceville, FL. He was also an election poll volunteer and Special Deputy for Okaloosa County, FL. His favorite hobby was collecting watches; he was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and participated in shows across the country.

This is a four-year scholarship for a student graduating from a Randolph County high school attending Purdue University studying engineering.

The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.

MNRS Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an MNRS member who has significantly advanced the profession of nursing either through an extensive program of research or creation of environments where research can flourish, and whose sustained leadership and distinguished career yielded outstanding and noteworthy accomplishments. 

The Indiana Community Recycling Grant Program, administered by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), aims to enhance recycling and waste reduction initiatives across communities. With funding ranging from $1,000 to $100,000, this program supports projects focused on recycling education, organics management, and hazardous waste disposal. Funded through a solid waste management surcharge, it encourages environmentally sound practices while requiring a 25% cash match from applicants. Note that funding is not guaranteed.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, administered by Independent Colleges of Indiana and the Community Foundation of Noble County, is available to Indiana residents graduating high school by 2026. Recipients must pursue a full-time bachelor's degree at an accredited Indiana institution and meet local foundation criteria. This scholarship reflects the commitment of generous donors to support Noble County students in achieving their educational aspirations, with notifications sent in December.

The Excellence in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award

The purpose of the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award is to recognize the contribution of a member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions to advance equitable health outcomes and reduce health disparities through research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.  

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in Indiana support organizations in facilitating self-help housing projects for low-income families. By supervising construction efforts, these grants enable families to build their own homes in rural areas, fostering community involvement and skill development. Eligible applicants include government non-profits, federally-recognized tribes, and private non-profit entities. Funds can be used for technical assistance, recruitment, and guidance in loan applications, but cannot cover direct construction costs.

The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is a program of the State of Indiana, established by Indiana Code 6-3.1-9 and administered by IHCDA through approved local non-profit organizations. The purpose of the program is to provide a means for these organizations to fund certain neighborhood-based programs and projects that improve distressed neighborhoods and the lives of the families that live there by encouraging individuals and businesses to make donations in exchange for Indiana State tax credits.

Each year, IHCDA awards up to a total of $2.5 million in Indiana tax credits to qualifying organizations. Each prospective participant organization submits a project application to IHCDA in the spring and, if approved, is awarded an allocation of tax credits. The organization then distributes these tax credits as an incentive to individuals or businesses who donate to the organization.

All donor contributions raised in exchange for NAP credits go toward the program or project described in the organization’s application. Eligible projects include affordable housing, counseling, child-care, educational assistance, emergency assistance, job training, medical care, recreational facilities, downtown rehabilitation, and neighborhood commercial revitalization. All projects must benefit economically disadvantaged areas and/or persons.

Brown County Community Foundation

BCCF operates as a 501 (c)(3) corporation. It professionally manages and distributes income from charitable bequests consistent with the donor’s wishes and interests. In other words, BCCF manages charitable funds, making grants to local, nonprofit organizations based on advice from donors. Donors can specify a specific organization or a general area of concern within the community to which their gift be directed.

Scholarships

The Foundation manages several academic scholarship funds, many established expressly for Brown County High School graduates. 

Additionally, through the Foundation’s affiliation with The Lilly Endowment Inc., over forty Brown County residents have received four-year full-tuition scholarships through the Endowment’s Community Scholars Program.

BCCF Scholarships are available to current high school graduates, students currently enrolled in college, past graduates planning to enroll, as well as G.E.D. graduates.

John A. and Cheryl J. Eyed Scholarship

Purpose: To provide tuition assistance to Brown County residents pursuing a two or four year degree on a full or part-time basis at any Ivy Tech State College location.
