Scholarships

We offer hundreds of different scholarships for students in and around Kansas City.

Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants Scholarship Fund

The Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants created this scholarship fund to award to a qualified individual majoring in an agricultural field.

The Burt Monroe, Jr., Avian Research Fund, established in honor of Dr. Burt L. Monroe, Jr., provides financial support for basic scientific research on birds in Kentucky. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for KOS members, with a two-year approval period. Matching funds from other sources are encouraged. The fund aims to promote avian research within the Commonwealth, while ensuring that administrative costs are not covered, and projects receiving support from other funds in the same year are disqualified.

The Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship, awarded by Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, supports first and second-year medical students conducting research over 2 to 12 months. With a total funding of $7,000, students can receive reimbursement for travel expenses up to $1,000 for presenting their findings at national conferences. Eligibility requires enrollment in schools with active AΩA chapters, while those taking a year off for research or holding a PhD are ineligible.

The Emerging Artist Award offers a $1,000 grant to Kentucky artists in the early stages of their careers, typically within ten years of their professional artistic journey. This unrestricted funding supports creative endeavors in various literary arts, including fiction and poetry. The program aims to recognize and encourage artistic excellence while providing financial assistance to enhance the artists' careers. Eligible applicants must be 18+, legal residents of Kentucky, and demonstrate originality in their work.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

The Appalachian Landscapes Project Capital Grant, offered by the Open Space Institute, supports vital conservation initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity and enhancing landscape connectivity. Established in 1974, the OSI has protected over 2.5 million acres in the Eastern US and Canada, focusing on land that ensures clean drinking water and wildlife habitats. This grant is specifically for projects within the Appalachian Landscapes Project service area, promoting sustainable community benefits.

The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award provides financial assistance to student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility, enabling them to complete their first undergraduate degree. Since its inception in 2001, nearly $9 million has supported approximately 1,875 athletes, with a remarkable 90 percent graduation rate among recipients. The award covers tuition costs up to $15,000 for remaining credits and may be used in the summer term or short terms surrounding the final undergraduate year.

The Kentucky Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Funds support initiatives that enhance the quality of care for nursing home residents. Managed by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, these funds are reinvested from monetary penalties imposed on nursing homes for non-compliance with federal standards. Eligible organizations, including advocacy groups and nursing home associations, may utilize CMP funds for projects like resident relocation support and facility improvement initiatives, aiming to advance resident welfare.

CSX Charitable Investments offers the Pride in Service Grants to support organizations that honor and assist military members and first responders. Focus areas include safety, mental health, community bridging, workforce development, and addressing food insecurity. Eligible organizations include those with 501(c)(3) status, government entities, and educational institutions. Grants aim to uplift communities and recognize the contributions of those who serve, while ensuring alignment with specific charitable criteria.

Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives

We envision a future in which Kentuckians value the importance of libraries and Kentucky government records and we are recognized for:

• Innovative and creative approaches for preserving and providing access to government records;
• Enabling libraries to be essential to their communities;
• Being a va​lued partner in the educational and economic development of the Commonwealth.

Conferences Grant

Grant funds will support Kentucky public library staff in attending library and job-related conferences that foster professional growth, keep them current on national trends, and equip them to implement new services and technologies that benefit their communities. The application will remain open until grant funds are exhausted.

This grant aligns with KDLA's five-year strategic plan to enhance Institutional Capacity to “enhance the knowledge and skills of public library and archival staff through professional development and training opportunities.

The Medical Student Education Program (MSE) supports public medical schools in states facing primary care provider shortages, aiming to enhance medical education for future physicians. Eligible states include those in the top quartile projected to face shortages by 2038. Currently, 12 states such as Alabama and Texas are recognized, with 23 public medical schools identified as potential beneficiaries. Note that current MSE grantees are ineligible for the 2026 funding cycle.

The Native Voices Endowment Grants, managed by the Endangered Language Fund, support the preservation of endangered languages associated with Native American tribes that interacted with the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1803-1806. Grants are available for language documentation, revitalization, and educational projects, fostering cultural heritage through various initiatives. Eligible applicants include tribal members and language programs, ensuring the continuation of linguistic traditions and community involvement in revitalizing native languages.

The Small Business Transportation Technical Assistance Center (Region 4) aims to empower small businesses by providing essential outreach and support. Funded by the US Department of Transportation, this initiative offers financial and technical assistance, training programs, and counseling to help small businesses effectively compete for DOT-related contracts. By enhancing their capabilities, the program seeks to improve the participation of small enterprises in transportation projects at federal, state, and local levels.

The Fiscal Year 2026 Cooperating Technical Partners (CTP) Program, managed by FEMA, aims to enhance flood information delivery to communities through the development of flood hazard data and maps. By empowering local entities with mapping capabilities, the program fosters informed decision-making to mitigate flood risks. With a funding allocation of $41,000,000 across nine regions, the CTP strengthens public awareness and supports responsible planning among government and private sectors.

The Gheens Foundation Grant aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in metropolitan Louisville and Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes, Louisiana. With a commitment to grant-making, the foundation prioritizes education and social services. It allocates approximately 5% of its assets annually to support eligible organizations. Applicants should have a verified IRS status and meet revenue criteria. Notably, the foundation excludes certain entities, including endowments and private schools, from funding.

The Reading Diagnostic and Intervention Fund Mini Grant from the Kentucky Department of Education aims to enhance the reading skills of struggling readers in grades K-3. This initiative supports districts in acquiring high-quality instructional resources that foster structured literacy practices for tier 2 and tier 3 instruction, ensuring alignment with Kentucky Academic Standards. Eligible applicants include Kentucky public school districts and specialized schools, promoting equitable access to effective reading interventions.

South Arts, Inc. offers Professional Development Grants for Arts Organizations to enhance the skills and knowledge of Southern arts entities. These grants aim to support operational stability and growth, focusing on organizations with budgets of $500,000 or less. Eligible applicants include a range of arts organizations within South Arts' nine-state service area. The program emphasizes first-time opportunities and requires a dollar-for-dollar cash match, ensuring a commitment to professional development in the arts.

The Essential Foundation Grants aim to enhance the quality of life in communities served by Aqua and Peoples, supporting nonprofit organizations dedicated to environmental initiatives, education, and emergency services. With a strong commitment to corporate philanthropy and employee volunteerism, the foundation focuses on funding projects that promote community growth while ensuring compliance with nondiscrimination laws. This initiative reflects Essential Utilities' dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of over 5 million people across nine states.

Arbor Rising Grant, established in 2010, is a NYC-based nonprofit providing unrestricted multi-year funding and capacity-building support to nonprofits focused on alleviating poverty. The grant process occurs every three years, with the next round in 2025 being invitation-only. Eligible organizations must demonstrate high potential and effective leadership, typically operating on a modest budget. Arbor Rising prioritizes applicants from the NYC metro area while expanding to cover the lower 48 US states.

The Kentucky Bar Foundation Grant aims to enhance public understanding of the judicial system and legal profession through grants to law-related organizations. Eligible programs must be tax-exempt and serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky, focusing on law-related purposes. Funding supports initiatives that assist those in need, improve public legal knowledge, and enhance trust in the legal system, fostering justice and community engagement.

The HOKC Good Works Program provides over $2.5 million annually in grants to Kentucky nonprofits, aiding over 3.9 million individuals. Established in 1951, it has distributed $68 million through more than 8,900 grants, relying on the support of over 30,000 active Colonels globally. Eligible nonprofits must be 501(c)(3) organizations based in Kentucky, operational for at least five years, and focused on tangible community benefits, aligning with the program's mission to foster community enhancement and support.

The Emerging Traditional Artists Program (ETAP), presented by South Arts Inc., supports early-career traditional artists from Appalachian Regional Commission-designated counties. With a $5,000 award, artists can access training, networking, and mentorship opportunities to enhance their skills and community impact. This initiative aims to preserve traditional arts and culture while fostering a new generation of artists dedicated to their craft and cultural heritage.

Office of Agricultural Marketing

The mission of the Office of Agricultural Marketing is to assist farmers, agricultural businesses, and commodity groups in promoting and marketing their products by expanding existing markets and developing domestic and international markets for their goods and services. 

In addition to the Kentucky Proud program, the Office of Agricultural Marketing includes Direct Farm Marketing, Education & Outreach, Livestock Marketing, Plant Marketing, Promotion and Development and Shows and Fairs. 

Kentucky Proud Grant Opportunities

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture facilitates a number of grant opportunities for Kentucky farmers and other businesses that grow and help market Kentucky grown agricultural products. Sources for these investments include the United States Department of Agriculture, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, and General Funds from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Promotional Grant

Kentucky Proud members who have direct Kentucky farm impact may be eligible to receive up to 50% reimbursement for eligible advertising and marketing expenses.

The HOKC Good Works Program provides medium grants ranging from $2,500 to $9,999 to support Kentucky nonprofits. With over $2.5 million distributed annually, the program aims to enhance community services in areas such as education, health, and support for low-income individuals. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating for at least five years within Kentucky. Ineligible entities include religious organizations and most government bodies. This grant initiative has a strong history of impactful contributions to local communities.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant for schools to implement the PLTW Biomedical Science program for the 2026-2029 academic years. Eligible schools can receive up to $14,000 to cover participation fees and training costs. This grant encourages public, private, and charter schools across the U.S. to enhance their science curriculum, supporting students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Schools must commit to offering specific courses during the grant period to qualify for funding.

The Athey Science Education and Outreach Grant, provided by the Kentucky Academy of Science, supports the development and distribution of science education materials for elementary and secondary schools in Kentucky. Grants, up to $2500, can be used for teaching supplies, travel, and personnel support, encouraging scientific communication and collaboration. This initiative aims to enhance educational resources and engagement in various scientific disciplines across the Commonwealth.

The Peoples Bank Foundation Grant aims to create a significant impact in local communities by providing financial support to nonprofit organizations. With over 20 years of service, the foundation has awarded more than $7.5 million in grants and scholarships across several states. It prioritizes initiatives that assist low to moderate-income individuals and families, encouraging organizations within its footprint to apply for funding to enhance their community-focused programs.
