Best Grants for Teachers Continuing Education in Florida

The Miguel Cabrera Family Scholarship aims to support educational opportunities for high school graduates in Michigan and Florida, prioritizing those from specific counties. Each selected student receives $1,000, renewable for up to four years, contingent on maintaining good academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be first-generation college students or from historically underrepresented groups. This initiative is backed by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, which has a rich history of philanthropy since 1984.

Scholarships

Several different scholarship funds have been established by individuals, companies, and organizations wanting to assist individuals with furthering their education. All qualified applicants will be graduating high school seniors except for renewal options specifically noted. Qualifying criteria are specific to each individual scholarship.

Irvin Cauthen Scholarship

Seniors from Anderson, Oconee, or Pickens County who plan to major in business or engineering at Anderson University, Florida State University, Clemson University or Georgia Tech are qualified. This scholarship is renewable.

Scholarship funds are awarded for one academic year. A renewal application is required for each academic year with demonstration of being in good standing at their school of choice.

The Section 5310 program, managed by the Florida Department of Transportation, focuses on enhancing mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities. This initiative allocates funds for capital and operating expenses to develop essential transportation services tailored to the unique needs of these communities. By mandating that at least 55% of funds support traditional projects, it ensures that public transportation effectively addresses the challenges faced by seniors and individuals with disabilities, promoting accessibility and independence.

The Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program in Florida provides essential funding for the development of clean drinking water and effective waste disposal systems in rural areas. It supports the construction and improvement of drinking water and sewage systems, solid waste management, and stormwater drainage. Eligible applicants include local governments, private nonprofits, and tribes, ensuring access to vital services for communities with limited commercial credit options.

South Arts, Inc. offers Professional Development Grants for Arts Organizations to enhance the skills and knowledge of Southern arts entities. These grants aim to support operational stability and growth, focusing on organizations with budgets of $500,000 or less. Eligible applicants include a range of arts organizations within South Arts' nine-state service area. The program emphasizes first-time opportunities and requires a dollar-for-dollar cash match, ensuring a commitment to professional development in the arts.

The Community Facilities Grant Program in Florida provides essential funding for the development of community facilities in rural areas. This program is aimed at public bodies, non-profits, and federally recognized tribes, ensuring access to affordable services. Projects can receive funding based on population size and median income, with grants covering up to 75% of costs for eligible areas. This initiative supports infrastructure like healthcare, education, and public safety facilities, enhancing the quality of life in rural communities.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in collaboration with NOAA, is offering funding to enhance environmental literacy and community resilience across the U.S. Gulf Coast. This initiative supports projects focused on local environmental challenges and solutions through place-based education. With $4M available, applicants can request between $100,000 and $750,000 for projects lasting 12 to 36 months, aimed at engaging community members and fostering future leaders in addressing regional environmental issues.

The ASCE Florida Section: E. Bruce Lawson Leadership Scholarships provide $1,500 to undergraduate students pursuing civil engineering at Florida universities. Established in 2021, this scholarship honors Bruce Lawson, a past ASCE Florida Section President. Eligible applicants include LGBQT students and those focusing on utilities within civil engineering. Recipients are selected by the current ASCE Florida Section President and must be active ASCE members, fostering leadership and community engagement among future civil engineers.

The ASCE Florida Section: EPIC/Chittaluru Family Scholarship, established in 2017 by Prasad Chittaluru, supports undergraduate and graduate ASCE members pursuing civil engineering degrees in Florida. With a scholarship award of $500, it encourages students to innovate within the civil engineering field. This competitive scholarship is part of a partnership between the ASCE Florida Section and the Florida Engineering Foundation, promoting academic excellence and professional growth in civil engineering.

Florida Blue Corporate Giving focuses on enhancing community health through strategic partnerships with local nonprofits in Florida. Their contributions aim to address critical social determinants of health, including food security, health equity, and education. By supporting initiatives that foster economic stability and well-being, Florida Blue is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Floridians and creating lasting impacts in the neighborhoods they serve.

The ASCE Florida Section: Hayden Family Scholarship, established in 2017 by the Hayden family, offers $1,000 to first-generation undergraduate ASCE student members pursuing civil engineering at Florida universities. The scholarship promotes educational opportunities for students facing financial challenges. Applicants must be active members of their local ASCE chapter and cannot have previously won undergraduate scholarships. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to supporting the next generation of civil engineers and enhancing the profession's future.

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in Florida provide essential funding to qualified organizations that assist very-low- and low-income families in constructing their own homes. By supervising self-help housing projects, these organizations empower communities, enabling participants to contribute labor under professional guidance. This initiative not only fosters homeownership but also strengthens local economies by promoting collaboration among families while ensuring technical support throughout the construction process.

The Garcia Perseverance Scholarship, administered by the Coral Gables Community Foundation, supports students who have overcome significant hardships to achieve higher education. Established in 2015, this annual scholarship of $4,000 is awarded to Florida state school attendees, helping them address unmet financial needs. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit yearly transcripts to continue receiving funding. This initiative reflects the Foundation's commitment to fostering educational opportunities for deserving students in Miami-Dade County.

The ASCE Florida Section: Past President’s Graduate Scholarship is aimed at graduate students pursuing civil engineering degrees in Florida. With a scholarship award of $1,500, this initiative, supported by the American Society of Civil Engineers, encourages ASCE members to further their education. Applicants must be full-time graduate students enrolled in a Florida university and actively involved in their local ASCE student chapter. The Rural Business Development Grants in Florida aim to support small rural businesses with training and technical assistance. These grants are available for projects benefiting areas with populations under 50,000, focusing on enterprise and opportunity grants. Funds can be used for various purposes, including business planning, infrastructure development, and community economic growth. Prioritization is given to smaller funding requests, enhancing the potential for impactful local development.

The Heart of the City Foundation Grant, managed by HEART OF THE CITY FOUNDATION INC, supports Christ-centered mission organizations locally and abroad. Since its inception in 1979, the foundation has aimed to address vital community needs, including human trafficking and homelessness, through generous legacy giving. It prioritizes grants that enable organizations to enhance their ministries, initiate new projects, and purchase necessary equipment, fostering a long-lasting impact in the communities they serve.

Dr. Linda McLucas Fisher Scholarship

The Dr. Linda McLucas Fisher Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate female students, 25 years old or older, who are pursuing an undergraduate degree at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The award will provide up to $500 per semester to support tuition, books, and other college-related expenses. This scholarship is available for renewal each semester until graduation, given that the student continues to maintain eligibility requirements. 

The Abelard Foundation, established in 1958, supports progressive social change projects located east of the Mississippi River. With an average grant size of $12,000, they prioritize new initiatives with budgets under $350,000. The foundation emphasizes community organizing, civil rights, and empowering marginalized groups. Eligible applicants must be associated with a nonprofit organization and demonstrate a commitment to local leadership and broader policy connections. The board meets biannually to decide on approximately 15 grants per year, focusing mainly on general support.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection offers the Resilient Florida – Planning Grants to support local governments and organizations in resilience planning efforts. These grants aim to enhance the assessment of vulnerabilities to critical assets, ensuring that coastal communities can recover more swiftly from natural disasters. Eligible applicants include counties, municipalities, and water management districts, which can also collaborate with the Florida Flood Hub for Applied Science and Innovation to address data gaps.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection offers Resilient Florida Implementation Grants to support local governments and special districts in infrastructure projects addressing risks from vulnerability assessments. This funding aims to enhance the protection and restoration of Florida's water resources, especially against flooding and storm surge. Eligible entities include counties, municipalities, and water management authorities. Proposals submitted will be public records, with no guarantee of funding upon submission.

The Elizabeth Edgar Hall Founders Scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate female student who is completing/has recently completed her first year of undergraduate education and is on-track to receive her bachelor’s degree from Edward Waters University (EWU), Jacksonville University (JU), or University of North Florida (UNF). The award will provide up to $6,000 ($2,000/year for 3 years) provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

The Florida Boating Improvement Program offers competitive grants to enhance boating access projects for motorized vessels in Florida. Funded by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, eligible applicants include county governments and municipalities. The program supports various initiatives such as constructing boat ramps, piers, and educational projects that promote boating. This funding aims to improve recreational boating opportunities and stimulate local economic development related to water activities.

The Della M. Levy Scholarship for Graduate studies will award one female student who has completed her undergraduate studies and is pursuing a full-time graduate degree from either JU or UNF. The award of $4,500 can be used to support tuition, books, and other college related expenses in coordination with your Office of Financial Aid’s Cost of Attendance. 

Friends of NRA

Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - Florida

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

• General shooting programs
• Competitive shooting
• Education, training and safety
• Hunting and conservation
• Community outreach
• Historical education

Grant funding must be used to further a charitable purpose as defined by the Internal Revenue Code under section 501(c)(3) and accompanying rules, regulations, and other IRS law and materials.

The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.
